Y'know, the dumb thing about all of the enemies being the same is the fact that they chose the Cartel as the main group. They probably have the most variety out of any criminal organization. Anything from some random guy with his grandad's old service pistol to ex soldiers with better gear and weapons than the actual government.
I wanna say it's because they were rushed because they even had massive variety in enemies in bound in blood, soldiers, natives, Mexicans, cowboys, outlaws... This game is just a shame to see on so many levels
Quick side note. The military in Mexico is absolutely better armed and trained than the cartels. I live in Mexico and anytime the government actually wants results they get it albeit in a violent matter but they generally come out on top, with fewer casualties, the problem relies on the corruption of politicians who will intentionally side with one cartel or another. Sad state of things because they are absolutely just as vicious as you describe.

It's a shame that the game turned out like it did, because it had some interesting ideas.

I'm from Germany. In the German Community, there is a UA-camr called AltF4Games. He made some solid Criticism on this Game. The Video is actually still up. The Point of His Opinion on these kind of Shooters is, that CoD was the most Succesful to that Time. Based on that, basically every bad shooter tried to be CoD. From BF3 to a lot of other Games, that just try to copie the same Thing, that is succesful instead of something that could be succesful, but is an Original Project.

Play this game splitscreen 3 player using nucleus coop, having a blast playing this with my friend. The funniest part is we can caught each other while stealing evidence, and in some part of mission we have a secret agenda that represent our own objective. Really cool gameplay method for a game and its rare to do in coop game while each player have their own perspective in their own objective.
One thing you didn't mention is despite the need to level up to acquire better gear, the AI teammates don't scale up with you so they are stuck with the basic Beretta Handgun from the first level to the last, this is especially infuriating in the chase missions where Co-Op buddies would have equipped the FAL or 416 to easily shred tailing NPC's. Amazing you managed to finish this train-wreck. The only good thing I recall was the plethora of exploding cars that made for fun parking lot clearance AND the fact that Gunslinger is next ;)
I actually didn't even notice that, that's a great observation lol. I had some notes about cars exploding and how inconsistent they were, some would explode and some wouldn't haha but it seemed like a weird point to make when I was writing
Looks like one of those typical drop-in multiplayer mechanics where your allies are meant to have whatever stats/gear the other player has when playing co-op; much like RE5 and how your partner has their own unique inventory setup. Only difference is in RE5, you get full control over both your inventories in single-player. At the very least, they should've let the allies level up with you, and auto-select better weapons as they unlock.
@@barret-xiii In a way, HL2 did a better job with NPC weapon swapping in 2004, hell, even Halo 2 let you GIVE npc's greater weapons on the fly a good 7 years prior to The Cartel so it's one major oversight, especially nowadays where no one is playing Co-Op on this thing.
I can’t wait for you to do gunslinger, I have to say there isn’t much of a story. This is not bad, it’s just different going from the original to bound in blood to the cartel. It’s way more arcade shoot ‘em up. But it’s still very good, excited to hear your thoughts about it.
I think gunslinger has the perfect western tale, just a drunken bar story, short and sweet, probably only 50% true and embellished. The shoot em up gameplay pairs perfectly with it

I don't think I've ever played these games outside of one but only for a short amount of time. I love western games so much with one of my favourites being one you already reviewed, gun. Such a classic.
I'd recommend this series, especially bound in blood and Gunslinger, they are solid Western shooters, one with a deep story the other with fantastic gameplay
Finally hahaha I've been waiting for you to cover this tragedy. I remember thinking back in the day that this seemed like someone hardly did their homework on what cartels and mexico are like. Now that I know this was a european studio makjng this game it makes sense.
I played through this a month ago, I just pretended it had nothing to do with Call of Juarez 1&2 and it was ok. I think I'd rather play Rogue Warrior again over ever touching The Cartel once more. Fun fact, those hacks at Extra Credits spurged out over this game back when it released. It's written on the Wikipedia entry for The Cartel.

I droned through this game back in the day. I can't even say the game is bad because I honestly don't remember a thing about it, only that I played it when I was sixteen but forgot the whole ordeal.
I remember returning the game to GameStop literally an hour after playing it. I only got $30 back from the full $60 and would gladly pay another $30 to never play it again.
I just ignore this game's existence and I platinumed it, plus they redeemed themselves with Gunslinger. Really it failed at the conceptual level as there was and is a dearth of westen themed games while there was at the time a surplus of gritty modern crime shooters. Techland/Ubisoft stripped Call of Juarez of its main selling point and uniqueness by choosing a modern setting.
from how i see it, Techland probably gave this game over to the division that made Dead Island. you can see a lot of the assets from that game in this one. including the weapon sounds and reload animations. and if you watch cutscenes from Dead Island, you can tell they used the exact same recording equipment for the voice acting between the two games. they probably did this because they were under a lot of crunch and needed their A-team for another project.
I remember playing call of Juarez as a kid and I'm Hispanic so when my mom heard all the Spanish cuss word she actually got mad even though I played games like gta within earshot of her
I love "COJ The Cartel" & liked it for what it is, I even reviewed it as a favorite guilty pleasure. I never understood the hate for it, although it obviously is quite removed from the first two which I've loved as well.
@@BenjoBanjo8 I really love the game as it's quite unique & you can choose between 3 different characters, each with their own weapon specialty & story.
Not going to lie I remember going through this game with my mate. It had a lot of great ideas, but I guess like a blind assassin the execution was off by a mile. It's the only game I could honesty say needs a full remake. Because that branching objective-based co-op storyline idea is actually a really fun one in concept. But hey, Woodstock 99 sounded great in concept until the fires broke out.
This game admittedly could've been really good if Techland stuck to thier creative side and not try to copy the market, and maybe let it cook for another 6 months or so. Sad to see
@@MrHammers It truly is. It's kind of like watching a wax work left out in the sun, A thing I don't know if you got the chance to do in this game that actually makes it ok-ish , Is there's more to the co-op bit than a few dodgy phone calls. For example, in the nightclub mission if you play as the female character, you get a different mission completely in which you climb to the top of the adjacent building and snipe the dude that dies in the cutscene hitman style. (It also explains the following cutscene with her) But as it stands it's like an artist drawing a beautiful picture out of his own shit.
I rented this game (for the younger viewers thats when you Pay to take a game home for a couple of days and return it to the store) and couldnt even make it past the fourth level, good thing i always went in 2x1 days
I played through once solo and was so bored the whole time. Coop is slightly better but if you didn’t have a full group of 3 trying to be sneaky for rp or whatever people would just leave the second you caught them doing one of their own side objectives they’d just leave forcing a 10 minute load time again. We ended up just not playing after the second time it happened
The quality on all of your videos is way above your current subscriber count, when I first stumbled across your channel I was convinced you had at least 500k subs. Anyway keep up the amazing work, these videos are great!
I'd loved it in childhood, but due to one bug I couldn't finish the game, it was on 1st level. I especially loved driving car, I think ot was best part
Your spanish is pretty good, had classes or some relative/parent from there? (brazillian here, we speak portuguese but we can kinda feel when someone has a uncommon accent, your spanish accent was on point the whole video) I wish they did this game with Brazillian criminal factions instead of Cartels, i feel like it is simpler to explain than the Cartel stuff. Especially with that Modern Warfare 2 mission on Rio de Janeiro, which was fun as hell and one of the best mp maps. The Cartel was shit indeed but Gunslinger was a blast, waiting for your video on that one. Great video man.
Wow thank you, I'm flattered haha. No I don't speak Spanish at all, I try my best though lol A Brazilian take on this game would be legit, makes me think of Max Payne 3 haha
I know this might sound Blasphemy but I really love coj the cartel more then the others. The 2nd game bound in blood was enjoyable, the 1st game was ok, and the 4th game gunslinger well i never played and the cartel was my very first coj game I understand the flaws it has but it really doesn’t effect me we all have our own opinion if you hate this game I don’t blame you but I really love this game no matter what. Also can you do the army of two games pretty please
In my teens I played the Cartel and Bound in Blood alot(I didn't know there were 4 games until I found this series). I've gotten every ending and played through with each character multiple times. I can honestly say I really enjoy this game, though it has a lot of problems. Gameplay wise I wasn't big into Battlefield or Call of Duty, so this was really the only first person shooter I spent time on. It's definitely inferior to the prior title, but it's good fun if you want to just have some stupid fun that doesn't require much thought. Also the story's alot better if you play through it with every character. It makes more sense and you get to see the depth and personality the three characters have and better understand their motivations
If you want an idea on how bad this game is, another reviewer who covers bad games JarektheGamingDragon, couldn't find a copy anywhere that worked. The cracked version needed a specific version of UPlay and digitally it's gone. The only copy he got was from G2A. Though copy is generous because they just gave him a PNG with a steam code.
Westerns set in the modern day are awesome, and I think cops and government agents fighting the war on drugs is a good starting point to write an interesting story. It's frustrating how much this could've worked and how little it did.
Thing is, doing deep dives into cartel wars and war on drugs in general isn't a good idea as cartels have gained significant foothold in other countries, so making an accurate depiction of such events may get you death threats or worse. It's as hard as making a zombie apocalypse in China.
I beat this game with all the characters and made it through half of the online tiers and I didn’t totally hate this game. I knew it was bad but it was my first call of Juarez and my last because it wasn’t very good and I expected all the others to be just as cheesy and poorly made
Love your content, pal. Politics, they rather put the fault on something like video games instead of actually doing their jobs properly. Fulfilling their pockets with money and power thanks to their pathetic corrupted group along side with criminals like the cartels or many other mafias
I played the game as a kid (living in Poland), my dad saw a review for it online and decided to get it, i went with him and at the counter asking for 'Call of Juarez' the clerk showed us The Cartel and The Gunslinger, my dad told me to pick one, and i decided on The Cartel because 'modern weaponry', and i mean i enjoyed playing it, not the best game i played, but to me it was fine I do wonder what young me would have thought of The Gunslinger, since i played it not too long ago and it was amazing
The astounding thing is, there actually is ONE digital storefront still selling this wreck - Xbox Live. It regularly goes on sale too, for some reason, trotted out by Ubisoft every so often for anyone unaware enough to get the $7.50 from them. I know a guy who made that mistake, tried to convince me to buy it too. One hour later he immediately was like "NOPE! NEVERMIND!"
Despite it being quite awful I still find some enjoyment out of the game, I find it hilarious that they take this story very seriously yet it's just funny to witness some of the shit and how baffling and stupid it can get. The constant "fucks" and "motherfucker" In a serious tone compared to a humorous one (COUGH Saint Row 2022) It just hits different. This Is just a good-bad games that I find stupidity entertaining.
Idk why but this game really felt like dead island call controls, movement, ads, and even the pistol look similar. I was like it's this feels like dead island type vibe.😂
I played as all 3 characters & on some levels like when playing as Kim with a Sniper rifle up on a cliff top while the same level as Ben you are down in the valley, so a few levels they mix it up. I also played the whole game in co-op while in California & my buddy in Florida, we had a great time with it. I personally love the unusual urban setting & law officers crossing the line which makes this game's premise quite unique, it's a quite subjective thing in the end as I have a couple friends that enjoy it like myself. It definitely is a AA game, not a AAA experience but one of the dynamics I love about the 360 & PS3 era is so many AA fun guilty pleasures like this game, I pre-ordered this game & received a great poster from it, I never saw the bad reviews until much later so I wasn't under the influence of the mob mentality hating on this & on numerous others like it. I enjoy your reviews, even this one although in the one case I politely disagree with some of your points.
I liked what they tried and always had the feeling that this was a game where they just didn't had enough time to achieve what they had in mind. I mean they even spent time with gangs to get a better feeling for their side? I mean wow that is amazing effort. Sadly they could not release what they wished for
10:00 you dont need servers to play the Co-Op it still works, but doubt youll find anyone willing the play it outside of just getting the achievements that it holds
Just from the few clips I see, I can tell the game has good presentation; like cinematography. I think that's something people tend to take for granted.
I look forward to the day that Mr. Hammers maybe covers the colossal mess that is rogue warrior, having Mickey Rourke's dialogue completely consistent of colourful cussing is the only thing I enjoyed about it, and thank you sir hammers, I haven't played the cartel and now I know to probably skip it. Oh yes Mr. Hammers have you played a fun old school style FPS called painkiller?
I remember playing this years ago, unfortunately it was the only Juarez title I played, Got tired of playing it very quickly, one of my fondest memories of the game being me stacking bodies in gunfights while my AI team mates constantly berate me and say "If it weren't for us you'd be fucking dead" when they themselves handle themselves in a gunfight as good as Helen keller would.
Hey man, I've really been enjoying these retrospectives, and I'm glad I decided to watch some Call of Juarez gameplay and found your channel. Cheers and keep up the good work.
As someone with really bad taste , I beat this game countless times I like because I think is fun and "over the top" and I don't have to think that much just "shoot the man" So everytime I finished a really long game I play CoJ: The Cartel to reset my brain . I recommend use Eddie cause he have the dual SMG's that is quite fun , if try to play as Ben and play like previous CoJ with the dual pistols you will have a bad time ,cause the pistols an revolvers in this game are weak and inacurrate . I really recommend a mod in Nexus called The Cartel Overhaul Mod ,that remove all the blur and Dof this game .

I love "COJ The Cartel" & liked it for what it is, I even reviewed it as a favorite guilty pleasure. I never understood the hate for it, although it obviously is quite removed from the first two which I've loved as well.
I appreciate your opinion on it, I love plenty of 'bad' games. We like what we like ☺️
I understand you lol this game is what got me into Call of Juarez and is my "guilt pleasure"
I agree I think it’s a decent game
@@BenjoBanjo8 I really love the game as it's quite unique & you can choose between 3 different characters, each with their own weapon specialty & story.
@@vinniecorleone62 exactly also it definitely shows it’s age but it doesn’t deserve all the hate
I feel awefully called out for 1000G'ing COJ The Cartel
your videos are such a great surprise :)
😊
At least we got Gunslinger after this one. That game was amazing.
Arguably the best in the series!
Another interesting and informative video. I would like to see you start a series on the James Bond games from the PS2 era onwards👍
Great games!
Thanks my dude 😎 maybe one day I'll be there haha
I'd loved it in childhood, but due to one bug I couldn't finish the game, it was on 1st level. I especially loved driving car, I think ot was best part
Lmfao the juarez series is serving as a great binge listen while im at work. Appreciate your work dog. gang
I was thinking about reuploading all 4 videos as a mega series video. Thanks homie!
Your spanish is pretty good, had classes or some relative/parent from there? (brazillian here, we speak portuguese but we can kinda feel when someone has a uncommon accent, your spanish accent was on point the whole video)
I wish they did this game with Brazillian criminal factions instead of Cartels, i feel like it is simpler to explain than the Cartel stuff. Especially with that Modern Warfare 2 mission on Rio de Janeiro, which was fun as hell and one of the best mp maps. The Cartel was shit indeed but Gunslinger was a blast, waiting for your video on that one. Great video man.
What is your opinion on Max Payne 3 and how it portrayed Brazilian gang activity?
Wow thank you, I'm flattered haha. No I don't speak Spanish at all, I try my best though lol
A Brazilian take on this game would be legit, makes me think of Max Payne 3 haha
I appreciate your opinion, I love my fair share of "bad" games, everyone had thier own ideas on things.
And army of two is a series I'll cover soon 😁
16:06 what is the point of concentration mode is precision aiming doesn’t increase damage?
Just watched your other two call of Juarez videos yesterday. What great timing
Thanks my dude😎
Lol we warned you bro 🤣 great video tho!
You did 😔. I wanted to like this game so bad lol
@@MrHammers your not the only one especially playing the games prior.
It’s 11:30 p.m. in my country, but who even wants to sleep when MrHammers has uploaded a video essay?
Appreciate ya fellow HUMAN, get some rest my friend lol
If you want an idea on how bad this game is, another reviewer who covers bad games JarektheGamingDragon, couldn't find a copy anywhere that worked. The cracked version needed a specific version of UPlay and digitally it's gone. The only copy he got was from G2A. Though copy is generous because they just gave him a PNG with a steam code.
Yeah I had trouble finding a PC copy, I just bought it for the 360. Copies were super cheap
Props for you playing through it and trying to find something good even though it’s still bad haha
I beat this game with all the characters and made it through half of the online tiers and I didn’t totally hate this game. I knew it was bad but it was my first call of Juarez and my last because it wasn’t very good and I expected all the others to be just as cheesy and poorly made
Every other one in the series blows it out of the water tbh. Sorry you're experience with the series was this title lol
Let’s gooooo glad you posted today man
Thank you for being here Chris Handsome
@@MrHammers I’ll pick the easy way ;) lmfao
Love your content, pal.
Politics, they rather put the fault on something like video games instead of actually doing their jobs properly. Fulfilling their pockets with money and power thanks to their pathetic corrupted group along side with criminals like the cartels or many other mafias
I played the game as a kid (living in Poland), my dad saw a review for it online and decided to get it, i went with him and at the counter asking for 'Call of Juarez' the clerk showed us The Cartel and The Gunslinger, my dad told me to pick one, and i decided on The Cartel because 'modern weaponry', and i mean i enjoyed playing it, not the best game i played, but to me it was fine
I do wonder what young me would have thought of The Gunslinger, since i played it not too long ago and it was amazing
Lets goooooo! I have been waiting for this vid i cant wait for gunsligger after
The astounding thing is, there actually is ONE digital storefront still selling this wreck - Xbox Live.
Except the other one caused a studio to shut down permanently.
One of the best retrospective channels out here
Idk why but this game really felt like dead island call controls, movement, ads, and even the pistol look similar. I was like it's this feels like dead island type vibe.😂
I appreciate your efforts man. Thanks for destroying this turd and showing all it’s nasty flaws.
It's funny to think the shooting could be worse then 25 to life 🤣... great vid mate 👍
I won't say it's worse than 25 to life, it is a new generation of gameplay, BUT this game is definitely the '25 to life' of the 7th gen haha
I liked what they tried and always had the feeling that this was a game where they just didn't had enough time to achieve what they had in mind. I mean they even spent time with gangs to get a better feeling for their side? I mean wow that is amazing effort. Sadly they could not release what they wished for
Narcos is the best show i watched in years about the cartel
Better call saul was good but it was more about lawyers stuff cartel was more on the side
10:00 you dont need servers to play the Co-Op it still works, but doubt youll find anyone willing the play it outside of just getting the achievements that it holds
Just from the few clips I see, I can tell the game has good presentation; like cinematography. I think that's something people tend to take for granted.
Yeah but bad voice acting ruins most games
That pump shotgun he use look like a Benelli M4 which is a semi-auto shotgun
19:53 the joke that made me smash like 😂
First!!!! 🥳🥳🥳 keep up the solid reviews big fella!
You’re not alone. I wanted to like this game too but couldn’t
Was waiting for another upload
Sorry to keep ya waiting
I look forward to the day that Mr. Hammers maybe covers the colossal mess that is rogue warrior, having Mickey Rourke's dialogue completely consistent of colourful cussing is the only thing I enjoyed about it, and thank you sir hammers, I haven't played the cartel and now I know to probably skip it. Oh yes Mr. Hammers have you played a fun old school style FPS called painkiller?
Haven't played painkiller yet, but that game and rogue warrior are totally going to be covered at some point
@@MrHammers sweet, I look forward to it👍
Thanks for going through this trash fire. It didn't ruin the entire series though, it doesn't take away from the quality of the first two games.
id highly recommend playing a game called stubbs the zombie, actual classic of a game on the original xbox
Your Spanish pronunciation is really good, gg
Thank you!
Hey man, I've really been enjoying these retrospectives, and I'm glad I decided to watch some Call of Juarez gameplay and found your channel. Cheers and keep up the good work.
Thank you dude
At least the game has the “next gen” colour pallet of washed out grays and sepia tones, like the rest of the games of that era!
Gotta love the 7th gen shooters lol
I must've been such a boring child I remember completing all 3 endings in one day smh haha what was wrong with me... Great video my dude
We all played bad games back in the day! Plus people have different opinions on things, I'm sure there is someone out there who enjoys this game haha
Keep hammering these out
🔨🔨
@MrHammers I actually enjoy playing this game. It's a guilty pleasure game for me because it does suck, but I have fun playing it every so often.
You can make a modern western just look at justified.
Or even sci-fi Western set in space. Look at Borderlands.
I played this through with all 3 characters. Bound in Blood is my favorite western game so I really wanted this to be good.
ALSO. If you look close, this game has the same reload animations as Dead Island does and some of the same reload and shooting sounds too
That certainly was one of the games of all time I'll give it that.🤠
For sure, one of the games ever
As someone with really bad taste , I beat this game countless times
I like because I think is fun and "over the top" and I don't have to think that much just "shoot the man"
So everytime I finished a really long game I play CoJ: The Cartel to reset my brain .
I recommend use Eddie cause he have the dual SMG's that is quite fun , if try to play as Ben and play like previous CoJ with the dual pistols you will have a bad time ,cause the pistols an revolvers in this game are weak and inacurrate .
I really recommend a mod in Nexus called The Cartel Overhaul Mod ,that remove all the blur and Dof this game .
you seen what happened to battlefield with hardline.
picture rockstar trying to modernize
red dead redemption?😂
John's forcester john combs working

@@nemopouncey3827 I'm not saying the game is a hidden gem , I remember when the game was out and the reception it have , at the time not even myself like it . But today years later I think its fun ,if you not expect to be like the other two ,you could have a blast playing .
@@wolfgangamadeus232 your right.
Fun fact the Zeta Cartel was trained in 90s US military tactics at fort bragg
UA-cam didnt even show me this had been uploaded i had to come here myself i'll come back and edit this when ive got time to watch but in the mean time frick you UA-cam dont hide MrHammers content from me
The man tryna keep me down lol. Thanks bro
@@MrHammers just finished watching the video now and oh boy The Cartel is worse than I remember and I remember hating it haha I had totally forgot about the flanking system I have no memory of it at all I do however remember the horrible driving sections you put yourself through 5 hours of hell for us and I respect you for it great video as always and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on Gunslinger I recently replayed it after watching your Bound in Blood video I loved it when I played it years ago and I love it now although when I was younger I don't remember hating the dueling so much maybe it's my 30 year old reactions not being very good but I really hated the duels.
The driving was so bad 😔. And Gunslinger duels were good for me! Much better than bound in blood by far
@@MrHammers maybe I need to replay Bound in Blood to remember how bad they were and then maybe I'll like the duels in Gunslinger more it's likely I just really sucked at them so didn't enjoy them because I don't remember disliking then when I played Gunslinger on the PS3 but on PC now year later some of them really tilted me haha but I loved the game overall still my 2nd favourite of the series
Funny he says 1% has because when i played it on Xbox there was a game breaking glitch that wouldn’t let me continue the story playing as the Mexican guy
I used to be one of the chads that would go to Walmart or GameStop for that 12:01 am release. I remember really wanting to play this game because it looked cool. I’m a completionist that just has to beat a game 100%. I tried to enjoy it but was just so disappointed ☹️
The Cartel feel like the devs that making the game don't understand why the previous game good, and they just want to make a FPS that really killing the series, very glad they go back with the gunslinger that have very cool way to tell a game story
I find it interesting you mentioning there is nothing unique in this game, considering that car chase was lifted damn near wholesale from Kane & Lynch: Dead Men.
32:30 What are you doing? are you trying to get agent 47 cancelled?!!! 😂
I really enjoy your angry reviews, in particular.
Thanks! It's fun to rant sometimes
Can you play Turning Point Fall of Liberty for 360/PS3? That has some of the Worst shooting in a game
Nice suggestion! I'll check it out
So Vatos Locos are a gang from the film Blood in Blood Out, while Rolling 50s is from an other game i think .
What show is the Netflix trailer for that he used?
