    Tomatoes? A channel after my own heart! 😄😄 SO many varieties, for sure. It's hard to narrow them down to "the best". I grew black plum and black Brandywines, this winter, here in Florida. We actually got 2 freezes- first time in 5 years- It hit them hard, but I'm still picking a few here and there. I can't imagine how much they would have produced, if we had normal weather. I am happy for the freezes! The bugs were out of control!! But, ummm- umm good tomatoes. 😁

    I was going to grow Fleur de Reagir this year. I normally grow 25+ varieties but only 1 or 2 red ones. This was going to be one of the 2. Oh well, I already have the seed so I hope I don't regret it.

    I grow indigo apple that I got from wild boar farms, but they are much darker color and smaller than yours. I found them to have a unique and delicious flavor, like tomato mixed with plum and hint of strawberry.

    Hello again, dear tomato friend! Pink Brandywine. It’s my all-time favorite tomato. Do you have any suggestions for replacements for it as it splits so much no natter what we do. Have you found anything comparable? 🙏🏼

    I grew Indigo Apple several years ago and also found it quite bland and disappointing.

    Good info… blight is a big problem in my growing area but you never seem to speak about it? Perhaps you are growing indoors so it is less of an issue?

    I grew Indigo Rose one year, and was very disappointed in the flavor. There just wasn't much there. Such a beautiful, high-yielding tomato, to have no taste.
    I had several other varieties though, so I still had plenty of good ones. I can't remember which others I grew that year, probably a bicolor yellow and red one called German, and Black Krim. Maybe some Brandywine, red or yellow, but I had disease problems with those, I finally gave them up.

    Abe Lincoln, Steak Sandwich are two heirlooms I’ll never grow again. No flavor. Cherokee Purple, Black Krim Carbon -all three very good. Not sure about Paul Robeson, finicky and not really as good as I’d hoped.

      Abe Lincoln has 2 varieties circuling aroubd .. one is bland and the other is tasty and dense..
      zone and soil is important .. sometimes even more important then the variety itself

      @@antondavidoff150 I’m sure you are right about the zone and climate. 7B in hot summer Georgia is where I am. There were a few decent tomatoes but it was a struggle. This year I am going to focus more on soil PH.

  • @jennifereverett6298
    @jennifereverett6298 Рік тому +1

    Perhaps some types need to be much more ripe before they develop sufficient flavor??

    • @LUCKYGARDENTOMATOES
      @LUCKYGARDENTOMATOES  Рік тому +1

      Yes, sometimes that can be the reason. But not in the case of these varieties. Indeed, I once shot a taste test of Wessel's Purple Pride tomato, and didn't quite understand its flavor. Then it turned out that I tasted it too early, it should have changed color from brown to purple and become very flavorful. But the varieties I showed in this review didn't taste good at full ripeness either.

    How far apart do you space your single-stemmed tomato plants? Some look closer than others.

      Yes, it's better not to do that. The more space the tomatoes have, the better.

      I had bad luck with Caspian Pink 2 years in a row.. this veriety is not good for hot weather and have tendency to drop flowers way more then any of my other tomatoes .. also the taste was not the best even thou i heard from people to swear how good they are.. maybe because my garden has heavier clayish soil.. but black clayish soil is actually very good for most tomatoe varieties
