I also got free black vernissage with a baker creek seed order several years ago and it remains a must-grow for me. i added pink vernissage this year. Both are very productive, even in this hot drought we have had in north Georgia this year. They are still putting ut new tomatoes after others have given up.

You might benefit by doing what I have done. I and some fellow gardener friends, instead of each of us growing everything, divided several cultivars amongst ourselves, each concentrating on growing just a few WELL and then sharing the crop at maturity. It's less stress on both the garden and the gardener.
Something to remember about tomatoes is, in order to set fruit successfully, there needs to be a minimum of 10 degrees (cooler) temperature difference come evening.

I really appreciate you sharing the results of your tomato season. Very informative hearing your feedback on the different varieties. I had quite a few tomato blossoms fall off early on. Fortunately, the next round of blossoms held, and the bees showed up. Good tomato harvest but not great like last year's was. I planted Ananas Noire for the first time this year and it's a pretty darn good variety (pinkish purple highlights with predominate green shoulders and a colorful, streaked interior, moderately meaty).

My favorite are Ozark Tommy Toe, German Johnson, Celebrity, Cherokee Purple, Campbell 33, Better Boy, Early Girl. German Johnson and Celebrity is my favorite for canning or making juice. Campbell 33 is the best for canning into soup. My ozark Tommy Toe grows past frost for me and my chi's loves this tomato straight off the plant.
I am going to try a few extra next year, not sure which. My middle daughter likes yellow and orange tomatoes so I need to find one for her. I tried Aunt Ruby's German Green this year and I liked it. It done wonderful for my pickled green tomatoes & onion canning. I missed my tomatoes for tomato paste this year, not sure how I forgot it. I've grown these in NC & KY and done very well.
Thank you for doing this video and I may go ahead order some a couple new varieties. Have a Blessed Day.

Put the frozen tomatoes in a Nesco roaster, mash them. Then put them in a cone colander and use a pistil to mash in the cone. This removes the skins and seeds. Then hot water bath. 25 lbs gives you about 11 quarts.

Enjoyed hearing your choices of tomatoes & opinion! I planted 6 (too many in my small, raised bed garden 8’x12’). My best results has been 4th of July & am hoping the San Mazana will redden. Loved the Sun Gold cherry but little yellow pear had little depth of flavor so fermented as a salsa. Will only plant 3-4 in 2023. May try one of your suggestions for a slicer but 4th of July is delicious, prolific, no splitting (unfortunately, huge Cherokee Purple split; cut bottom half & made tasty basil sauce w pasta). Thank you for the ideas! JCG

My tomatoes were a bust this season! All indeterminate except for Roma. I had one nice flush, then they couldn't handle the heat. I've kept a few completely pruned Vines, 8 ft long, with new Healthy Growth on the end and at the base. Wondering if something will happen, a bit of an experiment. Even the deadest looking of vines is bright green with water flowing when I cut through it, I'll report back. Ha!

I did not get any tomatoes planted because we travelled in May. I do have a volunteer cherry tomato that flowered but so far too hot to fruit. The melons are doing very well. Have a honey dew and 6 bush sugar baby watermelons growing strong on the chain link fence (alley and vacant lot bordering fence so no neighbors involved). Last year I grew San Marzano, Cherokee Purple, and Roma. I also love Early Girl which is yes, a hybrid but quite easy to grow.

I grew some Cherokee Carbon tomatoes. LOTS of splitting, but they are wonderfully flavorful.
Romas didn't do well overall. Had some sunrise or sunset sauce variety, and I lost them all to blight. One day they were gorgeous, the next day they were in the final stages of death. Another variety of Romas I had an endless battle against blossom end rot, but I managed to see a few through to harvest.
I used to like Roma tomatoes sliced in a salad.

I had that overnight death one time. It was incredible. Yes, I know that if I controlled the rain, results would be more predictable. Growing in a greenhouse would be awesome, but I can't put that in my front yard where the sun is.

@@Latebloomershow This was my first time planting more than a couple of cherry tomato plants in a couple of planters and a handful of herbs. My "gardening" this year was still limited to container gardening, but I planted multiple types of tomatoes, herbs, cucumbers, carrots, asparagus, and several types of peppers.
The news of the war in Ukraine and related shortages got my attention, and my interest in food preservation suddenly became intense and acute. But I got a late start, so I determined at the outset that this was going to be a seed saving and learning year for me. That said, the sudden loss of the Romas was a huge disappointment. My plants literally went from extravagantly healthy foliage and lots of fruit production to a diseased and dying state overnight. I went from having a gorgeous container jungle to spending the rest of the summer trying to nurse tomato and cucumber plants to enough health in order to produce enough just for seeds. But as my tomatoes struggled more my garden became more a source of despondency than joy. I was really hoping to get enough tomatoes to try my hand at canning some.
Now with it being the end of the season, I may barely get enough to at least try canning a jar or two of my own tomatoes - just for the experience. The upshot of it all is that I got a lot of hands on experience with managing a variety of tomato and cucumber diseases and pests, and I should be able to do better next year. 😊
I did actually can some jalapeno peppers yesterday, so I'm counting that as a win!

@Kaye, I wish I had the room to grow so many varieties of tomato. I put my money on Amish paste this year and they were a disappointment. Next year, I will plant Cherokee Purple that I love and cans well. Here, in my urban homestead in swampy Northern VA, I am a member of an Amish "food club". I have been buying canning tomatoes from my farmer since 2020 and saving the seeds that I am sure are his family heirloom. He won't tell me the name so I call them Esh Tomatoes after him. That will be my second tomato for next year. @@Latebloomershow Yes! Despite being soft the tomatoes tasted really great and were less salty in taste than they had seemed a couple of weeks ago. They looked so smooshed that I thought about just tossing them, but after sampling some, I was happily surprised. They can stay. 😉 I appreciated your mentioning the tougher skinned variety. I will try to grow some just for fermenting. I fermented cherry tomatoes with red onion slices, garlic, lemon thyme, and basil. I did another batch with vidalia onions, sweet banana peppers, lemon thyme, and a chile pepper. Scent-wise, that batch smells amazing - reminds me of an Italian restaurant. I sampled a bit of onion from that batch, and it was delicious. Haven't gotten into the peppers yet.
I fermented some red onions (quick technique) this summer to put on a burger, and we liked it so much that that is something I just keep on hand in the fridge most of the time now. They are great on sandwiches, sausages, salads, and sometimes just as a snack, or used as a quick topping for fresh tomatoes.

Hi. Tomatoes crack not from the amount of water, but from a lack of potassium, calcium and boron. The roots of plants will never take so much water to make a tomato crack. With an excess of water, the roots will simply suffocate and rot. Fruits receive plastic substances from the leaves as a result of photosynthesis and moisture from the roots with mineral salts. If the recipes are balanced, then the tomato simply grows and is filled with sugars and vitamins. Calcium is a conductor of plastic substances from leaves, and calcium is the building material of cells. Boron accelerates the formation, movement and exchange of carbohydrates from the leaves to the roots.
Improves photosynthesis, increases the content of chlorophyll.
It has a positive effect on the absorption of calcium. With a lack of these elements, the fruits crack from water.
This is taught in Russia in the 4th grade of school at a botany lesson.
    2. For the destruction of insects there is a mushroom Boverium. He parasitizes them, their offspring and solves the problem for a long time. It is even more effective to use it together with phytoverm. They do not affect people, animals or birds Have a good gardening and great harvests.
