    Is there a way to trigger events? For example it would be nice if when it tells you there is a fire or when it is testing a fire you can make the lights blink in the house as red or yellow for carbon monoxide. Then you don't actually have to see the light on the device. It might also be cool if it reminded you ever so many months to test the unit.

      There are a few options in the app. You can check battery level and I assume it tells you which alarm is firing. Hue lights integration would be nice to flash the lights. Does IFTTT help with that though?

    photoelectric senses smaller particals, like smoldering fires. The one that senses large ammounts of smoke particals is ionization.

    I was considering replacing my current alarms with these because with my current ones there is no way to check the battery level so you can change it before it wakes you up in the middle of the night to change the battery. I was wondering if the Ring app would monitor the battery level in these, & according to your video it will do that, so I can replace the batteries before they run out. Thank you so much for this video!

      Yes, the ring home security app tells me battery levels for each of them. Just the other night I had normal/regular detectors go off at 2am letting me know they were end of life. I'm going to get more of these this black friday to complete the haul around my house. Love monitoring the battery in the app!

    Hi great video thank you! Here are my questions... you mentioned that the detectors are not interconnected, however... when one of these detectors go off (say basement), will my ring security base station and key pads (I have three, one of which is in my room) ring as well and be able to tell me which detector went off? I need to be able to (w/o a phone) be able to know that my basement alarm, for example is sounding. I don't want to have to rely on having a phone at hands to know what's going on.

    • @BikerGirlTraveler
      @BikerGirlTraveler 3 роки тому

      As far as I know the only way to know which sensor when off is by looking at your phone. I have set off my Ring alarm by accident a few times and it have never said which sensor triggered, only in the phone. Chances are that I could be wrong about that but I would not doubt that all these type of systems do the same.
      Which sucks because if you have the system in Home and armed and the alarm goes off in the middle of the night because someone is really breaking in, it would be nice for the system to tell you exactly which sensor was triggered without a phone. Specially because you may not have your phone with you. Like if your kitchen is downstairs and your room upstairs and you went down to the kitchen to get something between commercials and left your phone upstairs.
      Now, Ring works with Alexa and you can arm or disarm the system using Alexa. May be Alexa will announce the sensor that was triggered if the alarm is set off. I doubt it but may be. I have Alexa because the Amazon Echo 5 came free with the order of the ring system, but for privacy issues I do not use Alexa for a lot of things, except to tell me the weather, okay news briefings, and the like. One cool think about have Alexa, is that once you set it up to work with Ring Alexa listens for the sound of smoke detectors or the sound of glass breaking and notifies you to your phone. I have the smoke detector this guy is reviewing and I think it is better. If the detector goes off, Ring will tell you which of the two sensors were triggered.

      Are you sure you got the Zwave version of this smoke detector? There are non z-wave versions that look the same. Check my video at this point: ua-cam.com/video/3UQVjB6OCvo/v-deo.html and watch me walk you through the entire setup. You basically hit Add in the app, then on the detector, hold down the test button (keep holding) and close the door, wait another 3 seconds, then let go of the Test button. The app will then find and pair it to your setup. Good luck!

    Hey my family just got this alarm as we have purchased a new generator. We live in south Florida and wanted to be safe from CO when the generator is running in case of a power failure. I see on the ring app it said the battery is full. Will the app tell you when the battery is low or if it’s set off from co

    • @johnny0723
      @johnny0723  4 роки тому

      No, thats not a feature that I'm aware of. I do have monitoring of all of the units via the Ring home alarm app, so I can see which specific one is triggering and whether its smoke or co.

  • @tomt810
    @tomt810 3 роки тому

    When the alarm sounds can you turn them off from the app, or do you have to physically push the button on the alarm itself?

    • @johnny0723
      @johnny0723  3 роки тому +1

      You can use the app to see which specific one is firing and you'd have to silence it on the device itself. You can't do that remotely, unfortunately. You can also monitor the battery level and firing history from the app (Ring Home security app). These are on sale again starting today at Costco, 3 for $79.99!!

      I use CRC Smoke Test and canned air. This will actually test the alarm for smoke detection, and not just battery state. Spray a little toward the detector until the alarm goes off (2-3 seconds) and then flush with canned air. Both are available on amazon.
      This will NOT test CO2 functionality.

    Hi,
    Do I just need the Smoke and CO detector and the Ring App to link them? Or do I need the entire Ring security system to connect the detector to the Ring app? Thank you.

    • @johnny0723
      @johnny0723  3 роки тому

      If you have more than one, they're not linked in the sense where if one goes off, the others go off. The status of every detector can, however, be seen within the Ring app if you have the Ring home alarm system. This is the main reason for me to get it. Also, I have monitoring with Ring, which is very cheap $100/year and they will send the firemen and call you if the alarm triggers etc.

    I have a hardwired system. I want to change it to wireless interconnect system. Should I just cover or patch the holes on the ceiling and leave the wires inside? Also, should I turn off the switch of the wired smoke detectors on the circuit breaker?

    • @johnny0723
      @johnny0723  4 роки тому

      I have a wired system as well. I just unplugged some of them and there were no problems. I shoved the wires up and attached my wireless smoke detectors in the same spots. Not sure if our wired systems are alike but that’s what I’ve done. Ive got half of the detectors switched over. Looking to replace the rest of them soon.

    • @BryanLeGare
      @BryanLeGare 3 роки тому

      @@johnny0723 You might want to look at the First Alert instructions again; they specifically say NOT to cover the existing wired box with this alarm - it may actually render it useless. I was going to do the same thing with my 9 wired detectors until I read that. So I ended up having to customize some covers for the old detectors and screw the new ones into the ceiling (after turning off the breaker for the detectors and tucking the wires inside the box). Not ideal, but most people aren't staring at your ceiling.

    Question: Can this First Alert Z-Wave Smoke+CO devices be silenced from the APP (say Ring) - when it goes off... I want the convenience of shutting them off in case of some minor smoke from cooking in Kitchen...

    • @johnny0723
      @johnny0723  4 роки тому

      I wish. It does not. But, you can check which one is in alert mode though. You can check activity history too and battery levels so you can preemptively change the battery before they die. Still, pretty good for the price. The google smart detectors are $100 each!!!

    • @MintzMintz
      @MintzMintz 4 роки тому

      johnny0723 Thank you for confirming. BTW - does it allow to silence the alarm with TV remote Mute button. I remember seeing some of the First Alert detectors that allowed that. At least it’ll be some kind of remote - instead of long broom stick and ladder to reach the smoke detector.

    • @johnny0723
      @johnny0723  4 роки тому +1

      Muneesh Wadhera no it doesn’t have remote silence at all. And to monitor battery levels and see history it needs to be integrated with something else, like the ring home security system I showed.
