I can watch videos like this all day. We appreciate it, this video will live forever for everyone to come and learn. You did a great job gathering information!
Rev.Sheffey is my great great great grandfather and I'm also from Ivanhoe and piney..... this is my first video of yours and I really enjoyed it thank you
I miss Ivanhoe. My Mom and grandparents lived there. Our Mom later on moved to Galax but we would visit our grandparents and cousins often. Mom's family also lived in Rakestown on the other side of the highway and attended the one to two room school house in Rakestown, now abandoned. Not even sure it's there any longer. I heard that it had burnt down I think. I live in Terlingua, TX now and I miss those mountains. Thanks for the wonderful video!
the school is still there. it looks pretty good to be as old as it is. my nanny went to school there when she was growing up. i bet she would know your family.
thank you for your video. i taught for 2 years in Austinville and found Ivanhoe while driving around. I especially like your going into that old high school. I've always wanted to see what it looked like inside, but was afraid of snakes!
Great Info..I found you because I was looking at your Video of Pocahontas VA..I was intrigued by that little town, I love History but also am an old time Street Preacher..I would like to know more about the towns that basically went to Hell economically, because I believe that other Men of God like Sheffey left a mark of judgement there.. Thanks again, Please put up more videos of those towns Please.. I'd like to visit and preach there.
You can camp in Ivanhoe near a horse track which is next to the New River. They have music festivals at this location. It’s the most beautiful place. Only downsides are the weather gets really cold in winter and some of the locals are trash. I looked for property out there. They had one nice house but right in front of it was this huge trailer some family had literally parked on the side of the road almost directly in front of the house and as we were looking at the house we could see the whole family in the trailer just watching us like they had no money and nothing else to do. It was disturbing to say the least. Who wants to own a house with a random trailer full of a family directly to the side of it that isn’t even on any land. It’s like the road. 😂
Nice reporting. I had always been told not to go to Austinville or Ivanhoe - that it was too rough. Do you know any stories about Nye Springs up in Wytheville?
@@hoodinthewoods that was the right church you were at. I was there on memorial day and took a picture of the grave. If your there again just look for the Stafford family plot.
I love your no nonsense approach to these stories! Thank you for bringing them to the 21st century 💖

I saw a doc on Ivanhoe. Called cursed.
Estill County KY has one of the world's largest furnace..Fitchburg Furnace.
Could you please do a video about Swecker town in Barren Springs?
I’ll look it up
great video
Maybe I misheard, but it sounded like you said the railroad to Galax ceased operation in the 1880's rather than saying the 1980's.
Lol very good chance I wrote the right thing then said the wrong thing. Happens a lot, I try and catch it when I can
What is the song in the end ?
Clovis Draper does all my music, his UA-cam channel is his name

Nice story. Good researching.
Robert Sheffey is buried with his 2nd wife at theWesley Methodist churchyard at Trigg, in Giles County Va.
At the church I was at? Not the other one? I lapped it twice looking for him
