  • Collaborative robots are mechanisms that can be safely operated next to people without the need for safety barriers. Precise Automation's PreciseFlex robot is intrinsically safe since all of the forces generated by its axes are limited so that the robot cannot hurt a user even if it collides with them at full speed. This makes the robot easier and safer to use and reduces workcell size and cost. The PreciseFlex can automate processes in work environments where robots could never be used before.

    You have to really push on these large gear ratio axes to back drive them. Likewise, when they are moving at any speed, it takes a very large impact force to stop them. In contrast, the PF400 has very low gear reductions and extremely low friction, with modest motor torques. When the axes are "freed", you can easily push the axes with the tip of your finger. This translates into very low impact forces if you unexpectedly come into contact with the robot.

    That finger in-between the arm got me at first. Great demo, looks amazing! Whish I was in the USA to see it first hand. You have great players in the robotics field! Congrats.

      @Lorenzo Carmelo thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
      I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.

    I can understand how people would be skeptical about the intrinsic safety of the PF400. For the past several decades that I have been working in robotics, industrial robots have been heavy with very high gear reductions. Even tabletop SCARA robots typically have harmonic gear reductions with ratios of 100:1 to 160:1 in the primary axes and high torque motors. Since the effect of the mass and friction on the motor side of the gear reduction is multiplied by the square of the gear ratio.

    I have to confess that this robot is so safe to use, that all of us who work around this robot tend to be rather lax in our safety precautions. We do wear glasses as one should do in any production environment, but we don't pay much attention to the robot. So, I routinely bump into or get bumped by the robot and people often get hit in the back of the head when they are not paying attention. Typically, this is at somewhat less than full speed, but I have never even been bruised by the robot.

    Awesome design guys... it looks really well designed and manufactured, and it appears to move really smoothly. I could watch this video on repeat.

    Derek, if you remain skeptical about the safety of this robot, you are welcome to contact our office in San Jose, California and I invite you to make an appointment to be bumped by the robot first hand.
    Respectfully,

    As a Mech. Eng. working in robotics I find it hard to believe you can be hit in the head at full speed by this robot and not get hurt. The energy imparted on you at the highest speed is not intrinsically safe as you state. I would like to see you provide documents from a third party safety auditor such as UL to prove this. Please also post a video showing the robot with the arm extended fully swinging the shoulder joint at full speed striking you in the forehead to prove intrinsic safety.

    Is there anybody know what type of servo model this robot using? Torque? Speed?

    • @PreciseAutomation
      @PreciseAutomation  6 років тому +1

      Hello Steven, we use a combination of position and torque to control the servo loop of this robot.
