    I'd like to point out the outstanding quality of the animations. Great job!

      Yeah that was some great animation to articulate the most banal and uninteresting aspects of robot design lol. (Still fun to watch though!)

    • @A-Milkdromeda-Laniakea-Hominid
      @A-Milkdromeda-Laniakea-Hominid 2 роки тому

      Ergo, still some of the most banal aspects - work envelopes. A kid could grasp this, which is probably why you want to jazz it up some with robots maiming workers. Which would be cool no doubt.

    • @A-Milkdromeda-Laniakea-Hominid

      @Erik Look up the video of navy kid gets sucked into turbofan jet engine. Not much gore but it looks like a rag doll going into a shop vac

    I work in robotics and this is a great explanation! one thing to keep in mind though is that for many processes, just because the target is within the end effector work envelope, that doesn't mean that the process can be completed. Take processes like painting for example, where the angle at which the sprayer faces the target makes a huge difference to the final product. there are many cases where the target is within the work envelope, but can't be reached at the desired angles.
    I don't think you said anything wrong at all. Just pointing out that the subject of work envelopes gets a lot deeper and still has some difficult and unsolved problems pertaining to it!

    • @commieTerminator
      @commieTerminator 2 роки тому +2

      yeah... the end effector often comes with multiple rotary joints to overcome this issue

    • @zacharychristy8928
      @zacharychristy8928 2 роки тому +4

      @@commieTerminator that actually doesn't solve the issue. A process near the edge of a work envelope can still be unreachable because those targets tend to be near joint singularity. It's like saying I can reach things farther away because Im double-jointed.
      Imagine a weld facing outward that's at the edge of the spherical work envelope, where the robot can only reach by facing the welding torch away from itself. Another revolute joint that doesn't expand the envelope is never going to make that weld reachable.

      Thank you for your sharing, I am also interest in the Topic. Just wondering if we can "model" such concern mathematically, e.g. Define opertable envelope for any specific spatial location (x, y, z)? Thanks in advance.

      Agreed. I did a visualization similar to the work envelope shown in the video (using a point cloud in RViz, the ROS visualizer), except it only included points that were fully reachable. It's a much smaller volume.

And the prof took pleasure in telling us that we have to develop the right perspective, as if he meant something philosophical.
