- Painting a realistic white animal portrait is hard. In this oil painting lesson I show you my painting process and explain how to integrate a white dog into its background convincingly. I explain why painting a white dog is difficult and give you painting techniques and tips to help you improve and get better in your own work.
The art materials used in this painting are: all purpose paper 280gsm, turpentine paint thinner, linseed oil. The oil paints are Windsor and Newton: lamp black, raw umber, raw sienna, indian red, cadmium red, indian yellow, cadmium yellow, titanium white.

I am trying to paint a white dog with short fur right now. this is just a beautiful example of how to approach all that white fur. My background is tourquoise and my style more colorful but still soft and realistic. Lovely - I really enjoyed watching!

Why dont use canvas? Paper suitable in oil paint?
I do use canvas but offer oil on paper commissions as well as oil on canvas commissions. My oil on paper commissions are cheaper and so many customers choose this option. Yes, you can buy paper that is suitable for oil painting.
