Is Good Art A Talent Or A Skill? Learn How To Be A Better Painter Following A Step By Step Process

- In this art tutorial I discuss how it is possible to become better at oil painting by following a set of processes which includes how to plan your painting before you sit down at the easel and how to use grids (such as golden ratio and harmonic armature) to help you plan your composition. All painting skills can be learned and so it is possible for anyone to improve their oil painting no matter what their level. This is a time lapse art demonstration video where I will be painting a golden retriever dog.
The materials used in this art lesson are: 280gsm paper, ivory black, raw umber, raw sienna, yellow ochre, cadmium yellow, ultra marine and titanium white.

Would like to see what colours u use to mix for example if you paint a juck russel. What colours to use. I struggle with mixing the rigt colour
With practice anyone can make art. Not everyone has the passion to make art because it's hard work. Been drawing since I could hold a pencil and I'm still working hard to get better. People say its talent but really they don't see all the practice and failed art
yes, I think it is hard work too. I have lots of failed paintings but you learn so much from the failed ones 😀

@@gvd72 🤣I'll try but I usually try to fix them rather than abandon. The one which is posted tomorrow went wrong but then I fixed it on layer 2. 😀
I'm very sorry but you are wrong. Art is a talent not a skill, and no amount of "hard work" will make a difference. My brother has just recently drawn a couple of pencil sketches after not touching a pencil for over 10+ years and they are amazing. He didn't exactly "work hard" or "practice" there did he? Point proven I think, it is a talent.
"Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard". His talent is visualizing and creating on paper what he sees in his head but just because you can do something, it doesn't mean you are inherently better. 10+ years and never drew a thing... what is talent then if not driven by a desire to create? Every artist in history you've ever heard of dedicated their all to their craft. Every historical painting was usually commissioned, so these popular artists were painting day in and day out to make a living, that's hard work.
@@c3ramics I'm sorry, but I'll never change my mind, art is a talent not a skill. I've been trying to improve at art for years, tried different techniques, different media, read books, followed tutorials on here, I could go on and on, but alas, no improvement. Its all well and good saying its a skill when you yourself produce amazing art. Art is a talent, and it isn't for everyone, as I have found out, deal with it.
@@SteSeedThank you somebody finally gets it. “Hard work beats talent” doesn’t really make sense. A better quote would be “your hard work wouldn’t have amounted to anything without talent”. Sure talented artists work a lot and hard, but they wouldn’t be good if they didn’t have that special knack in the first place.
