“This place is suffocating, I’ll still be here in five years…” hit me hard. Love the lyrics, the way you sing them, the video. It feels so personal and relatable.
I stumbled upon this song by accident searching for Hangar 18 by Megadeth(completely different songs I know). But man, theres something about this song I just Love. Wishing you all the best my dear. Keep putting your heart into your craft. Namaste 🙏💜
eighty and wells - what can i say ? they offer us a century of music in kind, digestible bits that somehow resonate with other things they dont seem immediately related to
i'm so so so obsessed with this song right now, and ironically it's helping me put a lot of feelings into words through the books i write. it helps convey a very specific emotion/vibe i have a hard time writing, maybe because it hits so close to home. i think it hits that way for most people. but anyways, enough of my rambling. i wanted to say thank you so much for releasing this song.
Feel like this track manages to capture and communicate the universal 'teenage experience' honestly and unironically in a timeless way. Love it. Pepsi's Got Your Taste For Life.
the music video really resonates with the lyrics here. at least from what i understand from the vocals. they are trapped in the place they grew up in, or have known for a long time, and have sort of come to an acceptance of it. its sort of a bitter sweet song really. the suburb feel of shooting it in parks and inside stores, as well as the gas station slushies. and just the overall authentic feel of how it was shot. the lyrics seem reminiscent almost in a way that wherever they look they have a memory attached to it. nothing is new or unusual. perhaps this is why they also decided to include purgatory in this music video too. its sort of another analogy to the state they are in.
Come pick me up, I'll pay for gas There's nowhere that I want to be And you'll drive fast, and I won't ask to pick the music on the street And we can talk about whatever, and pretend that we won't tell Even pretending to ourselves You think it's easy where it's darker And I like to feel my heart Speed up with my eyes shut And feel we're doing something we should not So for a time I spend my life just trying to find out when to stop Just trying to guess when we'll get caught This place is suffocating I'll still be here in five years Like I promise I won't, through the wind, in your ears But nothing feels this urgent And these nights are still important And there's still a lot I haven't put into words yet Every time I feel alive, it will feel just like this I'll get the things you did, forget the boy I kissed By the hangar, and you'll both be strangers to me Tonight it matters that how I'm not a person who you want to see 'Cause I like to talk about the hospital and go when I don't need it Just to show the world I feel it, I only ever did it once And it was selfish, it was fun But I can't bring myself to Hate me for wanting a break I'll still be here in five years Where I made every mistake 16 turned to disappear For one week, and a half You know it's all an act 'Cause there's still a lot I haven't put into words yet This place is suffocating I'll still be here in five years Like I promise I won't, through the wind, in your ears But nothing feels this urgent And these nights are still important And there's still a lot I haven't put into words yet
I've been listening to plague town nonstop as of recent, and I'm super happy to see a video of two of it's biggest highlights (let's be honest, all 5 songs are fantastic). Love your music, Eighty! ^^ 💜
To me Hangar feels like a critique of the american mental health care system. "'Cause I like to talk about the hospital and go when I don't need it Just to show the world I feel it, I only ever did it once" could refer to a suicide attempt, which for a lot of people is the only way to ever get into a hospital and speak to a psychologist. "16 turned to disappear For one week, and a half You know it's all an act" might refer to the fact that this only works for minors. "And there's still a lot I haven't put into words yet" They desperately need someone to listen to them. Of course there's also a lot of "hometown hatred" and talk about bitter experiences but that part really stood out to me.
GREAT SONG!! hearing the songs off plague town for years and then seeing this music video and realizing that i live in the town you probably wrote these songs about gave me chills... eighty is a popstar
I’ve never seen the video! This is great. I’ve been listening to it constantly since I first heard it years ago. Working on a cover but reworking lyrics to fit my shitty life 💜

the midwest emo i get from this is immaculate and i love it
i still be here in five years
like i promise i won't through the wind in your ears
but nothing feels this urgent
and these nights are still important.
Come pick me up, I'll pay for gas
There's nowhere that I want to be
And you'll drive fast, and I won't ask to pick the music on the street
And we can talk about whatever, and pretend that we won't tell
Even pretending to ourselves
You think it's easy where it's darker
And I like to feel my heart
Speed up with my eyes shut
And feel we're doing something we should not
So for a time I spend my life just trying to find out when to stop
Just trying to guess when we'll get caught
This place is suffocating
I'll still be here in five years
Like I promise I won't, through the wind, in your ears
But nothing feels this urgent
And these nights are still important
And there's still a lot I haven't put into words yet
Every time I feel alive, it will feel just like this
I'll get the things you did, forget the boy I kissed
By the hangar, and you'll both be strangers to me
Tonight it matters that how I'm not a person who you want to see
'Cause I like to talk about the hospital and go when I don't need it
Just to show the world I feel it, I only ever did it once
And it was selfish, it was fun
But I can't bring myself to
Hate me for wanting a break
I'll still be here in five years
Where I made every mistake
16 turned to disappear
For one week, and a half
You know it's all an act
'Cause there's still a lot I haven't put into words yet
This place is suffocating
I'll still be here in five years
Like I promise I won't, through the wind, in your ears
But nothing feels this urgent
And these nights are still important
And there's still a lot I haven't put into words yet
