“Just Between You and Me” is that song that always brings out the best memories I had as a kid in the summer of 1981. To this day, whenever I hear it, I am instantly transported back in time where I can see my 9 year old self sitting on my BMX bike, listening to The Nature of the Beast on my portable cassette player that I bungee corded to my handlebar and watching the sunset on a warm July night. God Bless you Myles and God Speed.
The first time i heard April Wine, I was 15...loved them ever since...can't believe he's gone...great band...amazing vocalist...gifted songwriter...RIP...
Pete thanks for recognizing the accomplishments of Myles and April Wine. A great great rock band and hit machine. They may not have been world renowned as Rush but just as accomplished. My favourite 🇨🇦rock band of all time IMO
Well done tribute as always Pete. Grew up with April Wine but only saw them once at Lulu's in Kitchener at a New years Eve show. Myles will be sorely missed but their music will always live on!
I'm a 61-year old Canuck who was glued to Top Forty radio in the 1970s. Needless to say, April Wine was omnipresent. Can't imagine my adolescence without those songs. RIP, Myles
Nice tribute, April Wine was not only my favourite Canadian band but probably my favourite all time band . Their 3 guitar attack with amazing lead players and Myles unique voice is unmatched by anyone. Definitely deserved much more recognition worldwide
Definitely on our Mt. Rushmore of Canadian bands. Should have been much bigger worldwide but are legends here in the Great White North. RIP Myles. Great songs, great times.
1 st time never forget it was Ontario place seeing the very early April wine I thought wow this band is incredible songs like could have been a lady bad side a the moon awesome tunes Myles was so spot on in his prime , his guitar playing incredible RIP Myles thanks for the memories you were great
April Wine is still such an underrated band. They could rock out, they could produce good ballads, and they could groove in the pocket. Thanks for this tribute, Pete. Well deserving. RIP Myles. I think I'll now listen to one of my favorite albums of the mid 1970's. "Electric Jewels"!
This was one of the first bands to utilize a triple guitar threat as Myles called it and practice and became so good that when you listen to the albums from 1978 to 1984 then from 1992 until 1996 it just memorized me every time I saw them live, If you never did see them live just look up their performances at hammersmith 1981 or there is a show they did in Kansas during 1982 Power Play Tour that show is better visually even though Nature Of The Beast came out in 1981 was the pinacol of their success. Still hard to take in that he's no longer here, I met him many times since a friend of my mother's at the time knew a relative of his so it wasn't difficult to get tickets when they came to Calgary. RIP Myles, I remember you saying you wanted to leave your mark on the music industry......I believe without question you have and I'm sure other fans will follow suit.
Well done Pete. April Wine is a band that everyone appreciates in some way. Some harder tunes but many accessible radio hits. He will be missed The the music lives on.
April Wine moved to Montréal in 1969, where they would be based for much of their career. They were a big deal. I grew up in the Montréal bar scene as a young musician in the late 70s and 80s. we would always run into someone who knew Myles or the other band members, April Wine recorded Harder Faster, Nature of the Beast & Power Play at Le Sudio Morin Heights just north of Montréal around the same time Rush recorded Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures & Signals, so much Canadain music history, Myles was a great Canadain songwriter, I urge you all to give a listen to the April Wine catalog from the early /mid 70s. released prior to Harder Faster they had a lot of gems that received regular air play on Canada top 40 radio.
April Wine's "Just Between You and Me" and their cover of "Sign of the Gypsy Queen" shoot me straight back to 1981 whenever I hear them. Great songs, suffused with nostalgia for those like me who were coming of age when first hearing them. Goodwyn was a man of many talents, and his legacy will continue to be appreciated.
Sad news. April Wine played here in Las Vegas just a few days ago -- I would have gone to see them, but I was out of town for Thanksgiving. I wasn't aware that Myles had retired earlier this year. They put out some great tunes back in the day.
I was lucky enough to see April Wine in the summer of 2022 and Myles said it was his first gig back from catching COVID. I had seen them 5 or 6 times before and April Wine with Myles at the helm will be missed on the Canadian classic rock weekend festival circuit.
I was fortunate enough to catch April Wine in concert 4 times between the years of 1977-1991. They always put on a great show and like many Canadians in my age bracket, I looked forward to them making their once( sometimes twice) a year appearance in my town. You must be a pretty good band when the Rolling Stones ask you to open for them. Those shows at the El Mocombo were captured on tape for the live album they released in 1978 or so. Goodbye Miles and thanks for being a part of the soundtrack to my life.
Myles wrote the Canadian teenage songbook; for as long as I can remember, you cannot tune into any classic rock radio station in Canada and not here an AW tune within 20-30 minutes. Their catalogue ranks with most of the greatest bands. RIP Myles
‘Stage fright, oooh long black limousines; he’s pushing himself way too hard, or so it seems’ … ‘No one ever warned the boy - rocknroll is a vicious game’…. RIP Myles Goodwyn. April Wine was my grade 8 gateway into hard rock when I bought ‘Harder…Faster’ album. Before that an AM radio singles kid. Thanks for the memories and all the fantastic rock music!
For many years April Wine was a national treasure here in Canada. A gifted songwriter, guitar player, singer who still sounded great well into his sixties. April Wine had great rockers, power pop and terrific ballads, he will be missed. Fans of Myles Goodwin should check out his bio "Just Between You And Me", a very plain spoken yet honest and real book. Thanks for this Pete and Miles thanks for the great music, Rest In Peace.
Often overlooked band, memorably I saw them here in the UK on the bill of the very 1st Monsters Of Rock show @ Donington in 1980, iirc between Riot & Saxon …. They held their own too! R.I.P. Myles
I discovered April Wine on MTV in the early eighties and been a fan ever since. It was a sad weekend for all rock fans. April wine & the Guess Who will never be forgotten..🎸
It was shocking to hear of Myles Goodwin's passing yesterday , as I saw April Wine play just a year ago in November 2022 , at a concert hall just north of Toronto . It was a great show , and Mr. Goodwin and the band were in excellent form . I remember being surprised at how great his voice still sounded after all of these years . Like you , I am less familiar with Chad Allen's time in the Guess Who , but I still remember hearing some of those early songs on the radio . RIP to the both of them .
They have a catalog of amazing solid albums for decades. Myles and April Wine were writing rock ballads long before it was the fashionable thing in the 80s and did it better. They were a staple of live performance for decades that never disappointed
Sad news. Always had a soft spot for April Wine after hearing them on the sampler LP from the very first Monsters Of Rock at Donington, then finding a copy of The Whole Worlds Going Crazy in my local library of all places... Will play them today and raise a glass...
Great job Pete. Thanks so much for remembering these Canadians and your enthusiasm for underrated Canadian talent like the Tea Party, Max Webster, April Wine, Saga etc. Not to mention your love for Rush and Martin Popoff. You should be an honorary Canadian.
Love April Wine and Myles's voice is such pleasant and true. How could i don't remember the loudest arena concert i've ever attended. (Montreal Forum 1984) (saw Pantera, Metallica etc and nothing compares in decibels to that concert) 3 guitars X 10 amps each! Memorable! Thanks Pete. 😌
Thank you Pete for the great words about Myles. I`ve spent my evening (Dec. 4 / 23 ) listening to all my favorite April Wine albums. I must have seen Myles and the band 15 times over the years. From small town fall fairs to hockey area shows ( opening for Deep Purple was a particular favorite ) This was a quality band. All the members are great players . One thing you should know is , I`ve never seen an April Wine concert where they didn`t play 20th Century Schizoid Man. Amazing killer version. Myles will be missed here in Canada and I hope abroad as well. RIP Myles. We love you
Another Canadian gift to all rock and ROLLERS, MYLES left us with some classic hard rock, expertly crafted and fueling many a party, none of which I can remember! Played the hell out of First Glance, Harder....Faster and Nature Of The Beast. I couldn't play ROLLER loud enough, perfect hard rock song with ace riff and strong melody, Myles definitely knew his way around a cleverly constructed song and dug his voice! Thanks Pete, well done.
I agree completely! I've had for almost 30 years now. My mom had type one and passed at 52 in her 3rd insulin coma. Dad died at 58 from it. Your right. Diabetes sucks!
I got to see them for the first time last year in Ottawa, it was awesome. It ended up being their last Ottawa concert with Myles. Glad I got the chance to see him perform.
Canadians of a certain age--i.e. my age--will know Chad Allen mostly for his time with Brave Belt. Randy Bachman thought enough of Allen's talents to form Brave Belt with him after quitting the Guess Who in 1970. (The two had been together in the orignal pre-Burton Cummings Guess Who.) . BB was largely derided in the wake of BTO's huge success, but two of their songs--Another Way Out and Dunrobin's Gone--were airplay staples in 1972, and they hold up very well today. Allen's importance to the formative years of Canadian rock can't be overstated. RIP.
My deepest condolences to his family, friends and fans. Silver Dollar was one of my favorites. "There's no sorrow when your life is over And my maker is about to call It seems the night is gettin' cold and lonely Still I'm feelin' no feelin' at all Any more, ooh, any more"
Wow, bummer about Myles. I definitely agree with you Pete. I always thought they should have been bigger than what they were. I got to see them live three different occasions, but always as an opening act. Really a bummer, I'll definitely be listening to some April Wine when I get home. R.I.P. Myles
Stand Back was a really good album. Limited funds, I never bought an April wine album (too busy with Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Neil Young and Gordon Lightfoot) but I knew they had some great songs
I got on the April Wine train at 'Stand Back' during my teen years in Canada. The whole band was so talented, but I always thought Myles had one of the best voices in rock. I like the heavier songs best but Myles was second to none on those power ballads he wrote.
Saw April Wine on the Rock Legends Cruise a few years back, and Myles was still playing and singing great. First Glance album was played quite a bit on Detroit radio back in the day and is a solid 10. Will miss him and the band. RIP
I had no idea Myles passed away. I have very fond memories of his iconic albums & will be savoring his tunes on my CD's of his. Thank you for a fine tribute brother!
For the guitar players out there that haven't listened to April Wine, check out their hard rock rendition of 21st Century Schizoid Man off the Harder Faster album. Myles Goodwin as singer and song writer can't be understated what catchy hits he created and are still played today on classic rock radio.
R.I.P. Myles. What a great songwriter and singer. April Wine is a tremendously underrated band. The Nature of the Beast is hard rock classic. Pretty influential band as well. R.I.P. Myles!
This breaks my heart. April Wine was such a big part of my growing up in the 70's. I still listen to their albums as it brings back some great memories. RIP
I had their Nature of the Beast album, cassette tape and cd and my favorite songs Sign of the Gypsy Queen, Just Between You and Me, Crash and Burn and Big City Girls and they still are R.I.P. Myles and to Chad Allen of early Guess Who and some solo albums as well Thanks Pete.🎵🎶🎼🎼🎶🎵
If you lived in canada you would always see April wine on tour with each new album ... wow kinsmen field house in edmonton electric jewels / stand back / the mad hatter from the whole world's going crazy 1970s to 2020s ... my older rock brothers are all leaving us now ...
I saw them a bunch of times.played a lot with Kim Mitchell and David Wilcox (is he known outside Canada?) at free concerts in southern Ontario. What a great songwriter
I saw April Wine at the first Monsters Of Rock - between Saxon and Scorpions. I didn't know their stuff, but I loved them. They didn't make it big here, but I heard a number of songs over the years. It took a loooong time for me to find a compilation which contained them all, but I found one a couple of months ago, and it's great. R.I.P Myles.
Thanks Pete for the great tribute for Myles Goodwin🇨🇦! Great Canadian summer band from my teenage years! My first album I purchased was Nature of the Beast! An awesome vocalist and an underrated guitarist! RIP Myles you will be missed! Now I’m going to play NotB and other great songs of April Wine! Cheers, Mike L 😎🇨🇦✌🏼🙏
thanks, Pete, for the respect you always show when we lose a musician. I don't post comments very often, but I'm always tuned into your discussions because you guys mimic my emotions regularly. Thats a great thing man. But all i know at the moment is i am terribly saddened. again. I am actually shocked at how upset i really feel. I don't know why exactly. I wanted to pinpoint it so i called my Dr. earlier and we made an appointment with a psychologist. Something about leading to a therapist. I dont think we have enough discussions about how to handle this stuff. I mean i can vision a wave falling upon us. I/we need to figure out better ways to keep this from becoming depression. Fuck that. Too old for that man. Shit back in the day my first real thought was to RUN. So I think its just gonna boil down to....age. I just turned 60 and of course this was never suppose to happen. You know. No way where we gonna reach 40 much less 60. wtf. But in reality our heroes are going quickly and so are alot of my close friends. Probably your friends too. I was wondering this morning how long till im completely alone because everyone i knew or loved has either died or dissapeared. I think that may happen to more people then I even realize. Jeez. Thinking about going out right now and hugging everyone i know. My wife just looked around the door and said, "you,re such a fukin pussy." lol Wow man. I aint fukin her for a least a week. Anyway thanks again Pete. Have a good night.
I wouldn't even know about this if it wasn't for Pete. Thanks for the tribute. April Wine fucking rules. Recently picked up a lot of the back catalog and agree that Electric Jewels was a big moment and where they found their sound.
Became a big fan of April Wine about 8-10 yrs ago...love their melodies, hooks and grooves in their songs...so talented, great energy, solid songwriting. Myles will be missed and mourned by many folks around the world. Their live shows for over a decade were smokin'! He was their leader and captain. RIP Mr. Goodwyn...
Electric Jewels is a personal favorite, some of their heaviest songs are on that album like Cat's Claw and Weeping Widow which were sang by James Clench. However Myles sang Lady Run, Lady Hide which is a great ballad from that album. Myles Goodwin had a great voice, very underrated.
As a Canadian l want to thank you & other American listeners for appreciating some of our music. Nice tribute to Myles & Chad, cheers from Canada!

Rest in peace Myles
Thanks Pete for the great tribute for Myles Goodwin🇨🇦! Great Canadian summer band from my teenage years! My first album I purchased was Nature of the Beast! An awesome vocalist and an underrated guitarist! RIP Myles you will be missed! Now I’m going to play NotB and other great songs of April Wine!
Cheers,
Mike L 😎🇨🇦✌🏼🙏
sixty two year old man here who has a soft spot for April Wine. I saw Myles et al at Vancouvers Commodore Ballroom.
thanks, Pete, for the respect you always show when we lose a musician.
I have all of their cds. Great band. Rip
Such a great rocking band but with great hooks and vocals. Another one passes, time to pull out my On Record vinyl.
Nice tribute, Pete. April Wine has always been a criminally underrated band.
I wouldn't even know about this if it wasn't for Pete. Thanks for the tribute. April Wine fucking rules. Recently picked up a lot of the back catalog and agree that Electric Jewels was a big moment and where they found their sound.
RIP Myles. Fan of April Wine mid-late 70s stuff
Thanks Pete from Canada
my condolences. thanks pete.
I first saw April Wine in the UK in 1980, I was well impressed with their version of 21st Century Schizoid Man...
RIP Myles...
RIP Mr. Goodwyn...
R.I.P Myles. What a great band
RIP Myles,First Glance is still one of my favourite albums
Thank you for the Update on Myles, our generation passing away🙏
This is sad. My favorite musican of all. Has follow April Wine since 1972. RIP Myles😔
Dog was grieving the news as well. Respect.
Pure 💯% “Rock&Roll!”
Nice to hear....I see the original drummer Ritchie Henman almost weekly.Nice.fella.
