  • Here's a demo of the Fusion VCA2 where I spend a bit of time plugging in waveforms and turning knobs. Far more sound demos than talking and explanation this time.
Thanks to Erica Synths for sending me this module.

Might sound bit picky, but how are you recording this? Are you going line-out, or are you mic-ing your output?

Recording the line output into my audio interface for recording into software

I have the Fusion System II and honestly, I'm having a hard time understanding the VCA Waveshaper Ringmod module...the Tube Bias just goes from nothing to what I guess is a regular sound at 12oclock then goes through a couple of fizzy stages as I turn it clockwise more. Am I missing something here? I see on your scope how it morphs the wave, but how is this useful? I guess that's what I'm really wondering is what is the practical application of this module?

I think it's for people who really appreciate how waves are shaped and that all sorts of subtle changes are possible through the manipulation of the Bias knobs. I had to work really hard to bring any of that out in the video because i barely understand it - and i'm not sure i really do. Morphing waves brings tones and character - that's it really. It's a bit too complex for me really in everyday use - the Fusion system is immense but really for people who like to craft their sounds with artistic tools.

@@MoltenMusicTech Thanks for the insight. It certainly is different. I queried Erica Synths support and this was the response from Emils.
"This VCA module is not a regular VCA - I'd say it is pretty experimental.
If you want simple, straight-forward VCA, flip the switch to the DIRECT position, and set CV LEVEL controls to 1PM. In this mode, BIAS controls have no effect on the signal.
As you understand there is also the possibility of adding a ring modulation and drive.
See how can you turn the knobs to get satisfying results.
Hope you will have some fun time experimenting with this unusual VCA waveshape module."

Movement to the sound, besides various timbres.

hey, thanks for demo, what's the name of the modular case you are using at your wall?

It’s a combination of Moog and Behringer 104hp rows in a Moog 3-tier bracket

@@MoltenMusicTech woah, the Behringer moog-skiff clones are also compatible with the Moog tier racks?!

    Nice demonstration!
I have a question, is it also possible to use it as a simple vca. Just making a kick or punch in combination witha a adsr?

Yes, it is ultimately a voltage controlled amplifier

Well it does sound very 'valvey' Unusual for under driven plate.

@@MoltenMusicTech Valve Plate voltage is usually 100(s) of volts. The fusion might have a voltage multiplier but likely not as I've not seen any high voltage warnings associated with them. If they're only running on 24v yours does sound really cool. Better than most of those headphone amps around the traps.

There are a couple modular designs based on the 1j24b (or 1sh24b) tube, wich sound good. CGS Ken Smith, Klangbau Köln and LM-1 are using them on 24v.
is there any way to find out wich tube erica synth use for their design?
