  • How to make a lost foam mold for casting. Learn the steps involved in the lost foam casting process. In this video you will see how to cast aluminum with a lost foam mold.
    - Make a pattern out on your computer or a piece of paper
    - Cut the pattern from the foam with a cnc router or a knife
    - Assemble the pattern
    Prepare the mold for casting
    - Spray the foam with soapy water
    - Apply a gypsum coating
    - Dry the mold
    Create a sand mold for casting
    - Place the foam in a bucket
    - Fill the bucket with dry sand
    - Place a pouring cup on the top of the foam
    Pour the casting
    - Pour the molten metal into the mold
    - Allow the metal to cool and solidify
    - Remove the mold

    Very good work. I look forward to trying your method of this. Other than heating your graphite molds before pouring, do you have to do anything to them before using them for the first time? Thanks!

      Thanks! I can't wait for you to try this method. As far as the graphite molds. I personally don't do anything but preheat them on the furnace before every use.

      I do that so there isn't a shock to the crucible. Going from extremely hot to cold might fracture it and cause chaos.

      The model is made of Polystyrene XPS Foam

      ​​@@marciomila9264 the foam is the model. I coated it with thinned out drywall plaster. It does work I do it all the time.
      Try doing it with just foam. You don't need the drywall plaster. It only helps the surface finish.
