Your video is perfect. No nonsense, straight and to the point. We didn't have to listen to 30 minutes of rambling before you started your tutorial. And then another hour of rambling during your tutorial. This is by far the best video I've watched on mudding ,and I have watched a ton of them. I love how you keep it simple but at the same time you are teaching what is important and why, and showing the how to. I hope I can find more of your videos. Great job!
I'm just doing some drywalling in a closet and this video really really helped. I was trying to do the corners both sides at the same time and could not get it right. Doing it in two steps, one side-let it dry-then the other side, makes total sense. Thank you Phil!

As I watched you, it came back to me clearly! ( i dont want to mess up the work we have put into repairing, so I am glad I found your video! ). You also answered another question I had, which is cleaning the tools in warm water. Appreciate you for taking the time to do this! Great help!

Thank you for this simple, easy to follow video. My husband was killed in a car crash 4 months ago. We were in the middle of finishing our basement. Thankfully, he had all the drywall up and the first coat of mud on. I still need to do a little sanding here and there, but it looks like the first coat is maybe the trickiest. I feel more confident that I can tackle the 2nd and 3rd coats now. Screw holes were easy...that was always my job anyway! 😂

Great video! I've been hanging and finishing all of my life and the way you explained everything is awesome! I've never personally coated tape that's still wet and just waited till it dried just because of how I was taught by my dad but it would save a whole day of drying if you coat the tape the same day. I learn something everyday. I really liked how humble you are and not like some videos where people act like their way is the only way. Glad you didn't bust out those corner knives that just make a mess and never work right. You know the ones that you cost both sides at once.

Thanks Phil you help me out. I just retired from work. Well it's boring lol so I decided to remodel my house. I did sheet rock. Someone always went behind me and did the mud. Thanks again
I have been putting up sheet rock in my basement by myself and I have never done it before. I told my dad and my husband that by the last piece I am sure I would get that one measured right and not have random holes where I missed studs. I am certain I have spent twice as much on sheet rock than what was actually needed for this room do to my own mistakes. With that said, given my sheet rock adventure I have massive amounts of mudding to do. I am thankful to have come across your video. Here's why. In your video you speak loudly (but not too loud), clearly, and at a normal pace. Thank you. You also kiss it yet are very informative without information overload as to why you are doing it that way which makes sense to people like me. Also, by keeping it simple I didn't get bored, lost, or confused. Some of these videos the people have been doing it for so long they forget they are making an informative video so they run through things really fast. It is second nature to them. Thank you for not being one of them. I really enjoyed this video. My basement fiasco doesn't seem so overwhelming anymore and while I know I have made some mad mistakes on the sheet rock I am more confident now that in the end it will all work out as long as I get the mudding right and no bubbles. It will just take me three times as much mud than the average person haha. Oh, one last thing. I had no clue you were supposed to add water to the mud. That, in itself, explains so much.
This is absolutely fabulous. My dad is a construction company owner, but unfortunately lives 1000 miles away. I'm doing my first huge project alone, and drywall is one of the steps. This is quick and very comprehensive. Thank you so much!

no doubt, sanding sucks, and I agree you should wear a mask when you do... not that I always do, but I'm a dumbass at times LOL
I wasn't real sure about tapping. You gave me short-n-sweet what I needed to know. Thank you Phil!
Appreciate this video Phil! I am turning our detached garage into an entertainment area and will be doing alot of drywall work. This video is exactly what I needed to see! Definitely subscribed! Thank You! - Frank from NJ
The ONLY way you will learn how to tape is to do your own sanding. Trust me, you'll learn fast.
truer words never spoken
I never sander after applying the mud and save me a lot time. I have my trick :)
@@Scky I would rather insulate in the heat then sand sheet rock.
sanding for dayyyyyyyssss.. been there. was doing it for the first time ever me and a few other guys and my shit looked the best at the end though
Have done that too.
As a member of the “no sanding” club I appreciate this great video. Please consider posting more. 👍👍👍
I recently joined the no sanding club within the last three years.
And let me tell you.
IT FEELS GOOD!
NOONE LIKES SANDING

Great video. No BS, just straightforward good advice from a gentleman that reminds me of my dad. Take my like, sir!
Thanks Phil you help me out. I just retired from work. Well it's boring lol so I decided to remodel my house. I did sheet rock. Someone always went behind me and did the mud. Thanks again
You're very welcome
Well thank you I'm glad you enjoyed and it helps , subscribe and receive notification of new videos
This is absolutely fabulous. My dad is a construction company owner, but unfortunately lives 1000 miles away. I'm doing my first huge project alone, and drywall is one of the steps. This is quick and very comprehensive. Thank you so much!
Thank you for doing such a straightforward video. You make it look like it’s possible for me to do this.
You can do it
Yep after 34 years and still still don't know everything , word of wisdom thank you so much for sharing your knowledge greatly appreciate this.
Phil, (and I mean this in the best possible way) you inspired me to hire someone. Thank you for your video.
LOL. Thank you for your hilarious message.
Not everybody is capable of manual labor. Should respect the unfortunate. Maybe you were born with no arms, wish you well.

Don't listen to all the so called experts, you did a great job. Thanks for the video.
Im am a expert and this guy dont no his ass from a hole in the ground
@Nathan Jacobson ,Right. He should have mentioned that it will cost them twice as much to have a professional come in and fix this shit.
@@Interior_Works not true. What also matters is speed and how much drywall dust you had to inhale because of unnecessary sending dew to sad skills. Any handyman can achieve good result given unlimited time.
Lance Anderson - It may appear that way to the Untrained, but he was on one of our jobs, he wouldn’t make lunchtime, before being told to “Leave Site”. Think before comment.
@Nathan Jacobson Jesus man get some air, you're so up your own ass with how important you think you are. It's like you think being a miserable ass on a 101 video for mudding of all things is God's work. Get bent lmfao
Thanks Phil, great introduction 👍
Finishing my garage and this video has given me some confidence on tackling the wall. Thank you
Your welcome
I am the population you sought out. I am a homeowner that works in the Medical field, and I have no background in construction. This video helped me tremendously. Keep up the good work.
Sir, You are an absolute master of your craft. Amazing !! My results were nowhere near what you did. MUCH sanding required, and you are right....A whole lot of NO FUN !! Thank you for the video. Best to you and yours.

Thanks Phil! Reonvating our basement and putting in a suite. Lots of drywall in my my near future
Awesome video! I’ve watch many and didn’t feel comfortable doing the job. Now with yours I’m ready.Thank you straight to the point , simple and efficient.
The only downside is your shirt! I’m a falcon fan and will always remember that Super Bowl :)
Thank you for this video sir. I started my painting and pressure washing business at the end of 2021. I never worked with anyone that taught me drywall repair and how to mud. I have however learned a lot from you and others on UA-cam. You guys have made it possible for me to provide for my family and I wholeheartedly appreciate you taking the time out of your day for people like myself
You're most welcome I'm glad they'd helped you
Very informative. I wish I had seen this video about 6 or 7 rooms earlier. I've been wearing myself out with all the sanding. And now I only have a hallway staircase to complete. I will use your technique & tips on it. Thank you Sir
Me toooooo
I wish I would have seen this video a year ago it was great!!! Now I have to just re-mud 😳 everything 🙄 .. but the correct way now 🤓!! Thx 4 yrs later😎 and still teaching
Welcome I'm glad you say it , subscribe and receive notification of new videos
Thinning the mud was the best advice for a newbie!!!!! That and when to use the 6" and the 12" knifes.
Thank you so much. I'm on a fixed income and it's been years since I did dry wall. My dad taught me. This is an excellent refresher course for me. Great job!
Hi Phil, first of all thanks for the courage to record this video. Secondly, thanks for showing everyone the way to apply “mud” and tape on drywall!
I gave you a thumbs up for sharing your knowledge and skill.
Phil it’s been 5 years since you posted this video and you helped me with my daughter’s bedroom thank you and you rock!!
Within the first 25 seconds I can tell you are a good dude who knows what he's doing. Thanks so much for doing this video...very helpful.
I've been doing my own sheetrocking for years in my home and have never seen the idea of 2 screws at the seams. It makes perfect sense to put 2 in. Good video Phil!
@Johnny AppleStead There's no advantage when using screws. Back in the olden times when rock was hung with drywall nails 2 nails were put at the seems to cut down on nail pops.
@Salty 556 Them bones be trippin' on mushrooms.
Everyone told me to hire out my small drywall project. I decided to tackle it myself after your video, and it doesn’t look too bad now that I’m done. Thank you for taking the time to do this!
You're welcome in homeowners like you are the whole reason that I've done the video
Thanks I'm female and had a guy stop in the middle of the project and I'm gonna finish it myself....so thanks much appreciated
You're welcome just watch the video a few times and it'll help
Well done Maestro and this 101 video help me big time. Thanks from Lancaster, PA and keep up the good job...
I've been in carpentry for 4 yrs and have been doing work with drywall for the last year or so. This is one of the most comprehensive, and least complicated video I've seen on drywalling. I think you could line any guy out on the job and get them rolling right away, which is not as easy as it sounds. Great video, I'll be checking out the rest for sure. Thanks for posting
This is THE BEST video I’ve seen so far for a home owner to do his own drywall mudding. Simple, to the point, and not boring, and no babbling on and on. THANK YOU!!
Thank you that's encouraging because that's what my whole thing for the video was to help the homeowner , subscribe to my channel and receive notification of more videos to come
Thank you for sharing. My partner is an expert, but COVID has made him not able to finish my kitchen. He offered to hire someone, I the thought broke my heart. I will do it myself and hope for the best. We took the cabinets out and discovered that walls are not mudded where the cabinets were. I have been without a kitchen since mid November - Thanksgiving was an adventure. I have helped him on jobs, my degree is in architecture building and design... and I can frost a multi level cake. I will be watching more of your videos, thank you for the assistance.
Thank you. I will watch again as I start my first drywall mud experience in my home.
Thanks Phil. Lost my dad this year and he said he would help me drywall a room and I’m determined to still get it done. Your video is a great help!
How did it turn out?
Yeah, how'd the room turn out? Were you able to complete it? And my condolences for your loss. It's always tough losing the ones you love the most.
Great video Phil, thanks for making it Short and to the chase, very well explained and not too much talk
Thank you , glad it was understandable, subscribe and receive notification of new videos
I just got scammed by a guy who pit up the drywall Only some of the taping, and this video is very helpful to me! I appreciate it! Im sure it'll take me a lot longer but i can at least get started
Doing my garage, and thought I had the technique down…..but there is something to say about experience. I am horrible at it, but plugging away. Thanks for your video!
Great video. I’m getting ready to tackle this in an addition we build onto our home. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Wow Phil I really liked this video. I thought it was a great tutorial. You do a really good job of showing the important parts of this process. I think you are a master craftsmen and am grateful to have this knowledge. Thank you.

Wow!! Thank you so much for this excellent video. I am a female and am going to give it a try after watching this video❤
Great demonstration. Thank you!
I thank you for trying to help! I, on the other hand, would like to smack the 839 individuals with thumbs down! If you do not like it, just slither away! He was trying to help you! Wow!
They'll mostly be bots. It's how YT works to keep traffic moving towards the bigger channels.
Hi Phil, I have watched many videos over the last 7 years on this subject and the way you share your knowledge is far easier to understand than the other people. On how to smooth the mud out to keep your sanding Down. The way to apply pressure to the 6” and 12” knife. The sequence in how you lay the mud and what to look out for was excellent. You have an understanding way in which you share you knowledge. Fantastic video keep up the fantastic work. Thank you from the Van As family. May God Bless you and your family.
best video i have seen in mud… doing a basement by myself and this was very helpful
Video Absolutely Amazing 👍🏾✅💯 Straight to the point, no fluff! 👍🏾
I purchased my first home and I was getting stressed wondering what I am going to do after drywall. I absolutely love this video and how detailed you were. Truly thank you Phil!
Your welcome
Thank you for explaining that so thoroughly and clearly. That helped so much! I wish I could give you hug! Wish you were my dad! You're a very good teacher.
Thank you. Straight to the point without all the gibberish.
I told my husband that I didn't know how drywall worked. He found this video for me to watch. I thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge! Very interesting and easy to understand!😊
That's why I made the video
He did a great job... one thing I learned being in this business for many years, other workers will never admit you did a good job, even if you did it better than them... so keep up the good work sir

Phil, thank you. My pop ran drywall, mud and taped for over 30 years before retiring. It is such a pleasure watching and learning from you sir.
I love the video. Straight to the point and very simple. No unnecessary explanations.
Watching this video in the parking lot of the job site because the boss man gonna have me do this today, I'm a rookie but after watching this I'm ready for the day!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!
