Your video is perfect. No nonsense, straight and to the point. We didn't have to listen to 30 minutes of rambling before you started your tutorial. And then another hour of rambling during your tutorial. This is by far the best video I've watched on mudding ,and I have watched a ton of them. I love how you keep it simple but at the same time you are teaching what is important and why, and showing the how to. I hope I can find more of your videos. Great job!

Thank you for this simple, easy to follow video. My husband was killed in a car crash 4 months ago. We were in the middle of finishing our basement. Thankfully, he had all the drywall up and the first coat of mud on. I still need to do a little sanding here and there, but it looks like the first coat is maybe the trickiest. I feel more confident that I can tackle the 2nd and 3rd coats now. Screw holes were easy...that was always my job anyway! 😂

Only way to learn is doing it.
So you had a bad job, let me tell you these so called pros who did my house did the worst drywall job I've ever seen ive fixed most of it, but it still has some really nasty looking spots. The worst thing you can do is paint it becuse pait will clog your sandpaper trying to fix it later. I recommend buying a 4" grinder and flap disk to remove the paint it really dusty but really fast. Pratice makes perfect. Do a 2x4 wall with conners inside and outside in your garage with seams and nail or screw holes and practice doing it untill you learn the techniques its a skill you have to learn.
Set this guy at a desk he can't add 2+2 but by God his craftsmanship is perfect.
Ok maybe he can add but you get the idea were all good at somthing becuse thats what we do. But you had to learn that skill.
Hit a nail with a hammer some guys will dent the shit out of the board and bend the nail and some guys will drive it in the first swing. Trust me he bent a hell of a lot of nails learning how to do that in his day but he didn't give up.

Hi Phil, I have owned my home for 40 years and every now and then my wife of 52 years wants me to do a wall that has been damaged from something or just needs to be patched. Recently we had plumbers remove and replace an outside water spigot which required the removal of a piece of drywall in our kitchen. The hole in the wall was about 24 by 24 inches but right next to the outer wall of the house so I was volunteered to replace that drywall patch and of course it needed to be mudded on all 4 sides with one side right in the wall corner so your video on drywall mudding 101 basically covered the whole gamut I needed to do this type of repair. Great info and thanks for showing me the steps necessary to repair this job to the boss's satisfaction.

Anyone ever put soap in their mud? An older guy told me to do that and I thought he was just messing with me but he showed me how to do it and it works really well. It doesn't put bubbles in it like you'd think. You only use a tiny bit after its mixed and mix it again. It went on so much smoother, sanded easier and a lot of places I used it, I barely needed another coat. I've tried to show other people over the years but a lot of them refuse to even try it out... you'd be surprised what you can learn on different jobs with different people if you're willing to take advice and try different techniques. Personally, I enjoy learning and trying different ways to do things. I don't care if you're 21 or 61..if you have knowledge to share, I'm all ears. Just because you've been doing something one way for years doesn't mean you've been doing it the best way all those years...that goes for a lot a different things in life and work.

Hi Phil, we are a small family of 3 from Australia and we absolutely adore this video. We watched at least 20 other videos on the subject of drywalling and taping and compared to them you aren't far the most helpful, informative and easy to understand. Please, please make many more videos. Your help has saved us thousands and enabled us to do our own plastering in what we consider to be a first rate way with few mistakes. Keep up the great work.

On how to smooth the mud out to keep your sanding Down. The way to apply pressure to the 6” and 12” knife. The sequence in how you lay the mud and what to look out for was excellent. You have an understanding way in which you share you knowledge. Fantastic video keep up the fantastic work. Thank you from the Van As family. May God Bless you and your family.

I've never personally coated tape that's still wet and just waited till it dried just because of how I was taught by my dad but it would save a whole day of drying if you coat the tape the same day. I learn something everyday. I really liked how humble you are and not like some videos where people act like their way is the only way.
