My most favourite food in the world. A massive bowl of this, with a garlic bread and a bottle of Pinot Noir, that is heaven on earth.

I prefer eating them raw but if I do cook them, the nicest I've had is cooked over the open fire/coals....thats the nicest. All plain and no added flavour cos it takes over from the natural flavour of the mussel.

4/2/21 ..... 15 minutes to cook but you neglected to mention how long it takes to clean them. The last time I made mussels it took me a good half hour standing at the sink to scrub them clean. Oh my acking back. :-(

      Hi Judith
Our fishmonger sells Shetland mussels, rope grown. They are big and meaty and have virtually no barnacles, only minimal beard and take hardly any cleaning.
I’m certainly going to try this recipe

@@robertburley8703 ..... 4/14/21 ... Never heard of Shetland mussels . To be perfectly honest with you, when I go to the market to buy mussels, I've never asked where they are from ???? I'm bad !!!! But I will be on the lookout for them next time. :-)

Hi, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. That’s why you’ve never had mussels from the Shetland Islands.
In Doncaster we have a brilliant fish market opening Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
Mussels are harvested and for sale the next day.
Don’t forget, nowhere in England is more than eighty miles from the sea
