As the ground crew (I started the engine ) I was unable to capture the launch on video but I hope you can hear the excitement in our voices as the flight unfolds.
Smile on pilot's face, couldn't wipe it off with an oily rag. He entrusted his Dad's kit and engine to the right man. Was great to see this. The curiosity would have near killed me otherwise. Now it really can hang from the ceiling. I'm sure the Dad would have been proud of how the two pals turned out. Good men. Bravo. Thanks to both of you for sharing all this. 😄 👏👏👏
Great to see a Ladybird flying again. .... Back about '79, I built my own model. .... I had never been part of the free flight power scene, and I was warned that if I converted to R/C that the plane would be super sensitive on the rudder if I left the wing dihedral as per "free flight". .... I wanted it to look the part, and left the wings as per the kit. .... I did my own thing as far as the rudder was concerned. .... I made the control wire from ridiculously thin piano wire. .... One could flock the rudder side to side without the servo arm moving! .... This meant that the servo would move the rudder full throw power off, but with the motor running, the prop was sufficient to restrict the rudder movement to about one sixteenth of an inch either way. .... The thin piano wire could not hold out against the motor at full chat. .... The motor was an R/C/ affair, and as the revs were reduced, the rudder movement became greater. .... This meant that I did not suffer with "over controlling" at full throttle, but still had good rudder authority on the glide. .... A superb model which I was daft enough to sell because I was offered a silly high price for it!
Flies very well, a very Gentle Ladybird after all .....🙂👍👍👍
Well Done. A bird with grace
Roy's smile said it all Mark, what a lovely bird, I was looking through a 1971 Aeromodeller and the Ladybird kit cost £2.70 🙂
Best fun for £2.70 we ever had 😂
