I bought my first driver in 1981 when I was 18. It was a Walter Hagen permission and I paid $55 brand new. I could smash that thing and there was no better sound when I put the screws to it. Great video as always. Could you do a video using 40 year old golf balls with your new clubs? I haven't seen anyone try that.
I grew up with wooden clubs and blades.. last night I picked up an old Spalding set . Guy said they hadn't been played in 20 years. Sounds right... Well today I'm gonna go play the whole set..
All my clubs are brand new except I have an old 2 wood in my bag. Proper wood! It’s my middle club between my new 3 wood (metal) and my 4 iron. I did have an old 1 iron but it went just as far as my 4 iron. The old school wood is a perfect in between club!
This confirms that you can still score well if you have a good short game. I have a Northwestern 2 iron in the garage. Can't believe how small the head is. I don't believe I could ever get the ball airborne with it.😒 Thanks for the demo Matt !!.
I have a old school set of woods I started with! Similar set up, I got them from a thrift store for $15 and got to the driving range! I love the sound they make in contact!
I picked up the game last year after a very long multi year layoff. Using a Woods Bros. Korker Driver from persimmon and filled with cork. This driver was played by a lot of big names back in the late 70's-80's. Anyways the best feeling driver I've ever played and it has to be close to 30yrs old. stay safe
I am a 15 handicap now. I got there by using cavity back blades. Harder to hit, but helps me focus. I never got good using the easy to hit ping g5. Also when I first started I used went to persimmon because I was having trouble with modern technology. Good job Mr. Short game.
Still play woods made of wood. Play was still slow in the day. Ball spun faster and would curve more. Old game is more fun to me. New tech is like riding a bicycle with training wheels.
Matt, I have been swinging a set of wooden Pings, 3 and 5 wood, for a long time. While they are not safari off the tee, they are the sweetest sounding clubs around! WWWhhhhhACK!
I still have my first set of irons I got back in the 60’s. Set of Wilson Staff Dynapower clubs. I took them to the range to see how well I could hit them now. Wow! I don’t know how I hit them back then. I let a friend hit them and he was hitting them better than his new clubs.
Yeah the further you hit it the worse the miss left or right. Just give me 220-230 down the middle with my 3 wood that's old and 18°. That's plenty even on a long Par 4. Since I canned the driver and just bump my 3 wood down the middle my scores have really dropped. 300 yards OB is still OB👍
I enjoy your videos 4 the info but the best thing is your attitude. It keeps me coming back. I live close to Knollwood gc, the old ratpack stomping grounds. Great point on losing some distance but not golf balls. Did u get the idea from the golf sidekick guy?
I have the same. 1,3 & 5 w graphite shafts. Yeah, they sound great, but the feedback better than any titanium. You know just where you hit it. And the feeling of the wood compressing. Magic.
😎 Good idea Matt! Something to those old clubs. It's what I learned to play on and got good at! And nothing like that sound! Makes me want to pull out my oldies! I know they have some at the good will in town! Put on a new grip and they have new life!
So I went out yesterday and played with a club called an "Austad's"? I got it a while back at the good will. lol! it's actually a metal driver with about the same size head as one of those woods, but with a graphite shaft. It also says on it, "closed 4 degrees" and then in the toe it says "Captain Hook". And I discovered why it says that! If I tried to hit it with a normal swing path, it hooks pretty good! lol! But swing more inside out and SMASH! Got some good drives out of it! Not real long but with a nice draw, right down the fairway! Longest drive was 248. I think I will be replacing my regular driver with it!
Hay buds can you help can you recommend a good golf insurance company as just gone out and got some nice clubs apex + Epick Flash plus I'm in the uk cheers your man from the UK Baz :)
Old school here all the way. Mac persimmons and wilson fg51s. Hit straighter than with modern clubs. Just got tired of the boredom of modern golf. Ugly clubs, horrible sound. Maybe 5 yards shorter with persimmon, maybe not. Depends on the course conditions. But this a fact.. In the fairway way more often with persimmon than with ti.
Persimmon woods make such a classy sound.

Love it. Old school baffler tech

Awesome!!!! I just played Knollwood for the First time in February with my buddies to settle a Challenge. Came from Texas to do so....
I've been wanting to do that with a vintage set I have just to see how I do. Thanks for sharing Matt 👍
Wilson Staff persimmon set was my first .Sounded great .Pity about paint chips easy
That chicken soup book is good. Read it when I first got the golf bug. Good stuff.

I jumped when I saw that Northwestern Custom. I was hoping you’d pulled some Pinnacle Golds to play 👍👍👍 Pumped that thing to a beast 270💪🏻💪🏻💥

always great stuff, MSG! great concepts, great music, great editing! $12 ... nice!

I have a tiny old 2 iron that I use to practice and it really helps ball striking with the irons.

Awesome video. I love when you post videos of you playing. Way to show it's the player not the clubs.
0:37 I have that same old Callaway Big Bertha, except mine is a 9 wood. Paid $2 for it and is my favorite club.
You really are the best and funniest golfer on youtube
I always get excited when I see a Big Bertha

Bought a old set of Ping Zing 3;5;7 woods, there’s only about a 10-20 yard diff from my newer stuff, and yes, a lot straighter too! Nice work.

LOL all my clubs came from Goodwill. Go Team Goodwill😂👍

@@thecringegolfer I've always hit a draw or straight but, usually a draw any club that is made to stop a slice turns my draw into a hard left hook.
@@thecringegolfer so I know exactly what you mean
Enjoyable to watch
I have an old MacGregor golden 🐻 1 wood! I love taking it to the range and letting friends hit it. Everyone is really surprised how far it goes!
holdfast98 Laminated? My fist Driver.
@@stephenscheibel4604 wish I could reply with a picture. It's got a poly face with a golden bear emblem embedded in the face.
holdfast98 black insert and black wrap hosel? If so that’s the one👍👍👍
Great Video!
Now you know what "Catching it on the screws" means!
great video dude...
Awesome!
Hey Matt, what is your handicap?
It's not the arrow, it's Mr. Short Game!
My old Ping 2 wood I could hit the living snot out of it but RIP in blew up into little shards of splinters 10 years ago.
I was at Knollwood Friday 😭
Hay buds can you help can you recommend a good golf insurance company as just gone out and got some nice clubs apex + Epick Flash plus I'm in the uk cheers your man from the UK Baz :)
I hope old clubs help all my clubs are old used clubs😂👍
A lot of big hitters in the woods so says OMP..

If I did that challenge the only thing I would do is break the clubs
