  • This is not my standard Alaska adventure video; rather it is a maintenance video. Adventures take toys and toys require some love from time to time. I have found very little content, in the way of Argo maintenance videos, to assist Argo users in keeping their machines on the trail. That said, I have published 3 videos in an Argo ATV maintenance series.
    1: Argo ATV: How to Service an Argo
    2: Argo ATV: Tracks and Modifications
    3: Argo ATV: Axles, Barings and Chains
    Each of these videos share my field experience and all repairs were made after consulting certified Argo mechanics.
    This video is simple directions on how to service the oil, transmission, bearings and chains on an Argo. Additionally, every time you service your Argo you should check the axle bolts and chain connecting links. I lubricate the chains, grease the bearings, check the axle bolts and the connecting links after every outing. I generally only change the engine oil and gear oil in the transmission seasonally.

    • @RaisedinAlaska

      I think the alternator kit is an option. Without an alternator electricity is made with a magneto. The manual say to start by charging the battery.

      I bought one not knowing how difficult the maintenance is. The oil filter is frozen on for the 20 hour oil change :(. It is pretty fun in the snow with the tracks though. Excellent capabilities, but taking care of it is involved.

      I grease all the bearings every time I take it out. It is common that outings find me in the water, so greasing the bearings pushes the water out. I change the engine and transmission oil annually.

  • @jeremyah78

    I struggled today to suck very much oil out of the tranny. Do you actually get the 1200ml out of it? I even jacked the front of the argo way up and still only was able to get about 300ml of fresh gear oil into it, after extraction, before being half way up on the sight glass. I just find the gearing so close to the drain hole that I can’t get my nylon suction line down in there. I’m thinking I need like a flexible silicone line or to make an adapter on the end on my nylon one (it’s not very flexible). Any thoughts??

    • @RaisedinAlaska
      @RaisedinAlaska  5 місяців тому +1

      I use a small hose to get past the gears. The 80/90 oil is thick so it’s difficult to suck out. I run my machine, to heat up the transmission oil, before I suck it out or I put heater on the transmission to warm it up before I suck the oil out.

      I just called the All Seasons Argo dealership in Anchorage and they told me that might be something you would do with a snowmachine or a side-by-side where you’re running 8000 to 10,000 RPMs, however in an Argo you’re never really going to exceed 4000 to 5000 RPMs and so it’s not something that you would need to do because the RPMs are not high enough do you need a little bit a slip when you first engage it the clutch.

    • @jamiehalifax4954
      @jamiehalifax4954 2 роки тому +1

      @@RaisedinAlaska don't forget it is a stealership. they likely don't sell silicone spray so they dont want you to go anywhere else cause when you see how much argo overcharges for their grease ,batteries etc you'll never go back..lol.🤣
      Thanks for checking though👍
