There are no facts in this interview, unemployment has steadily decreased YoY in India since 2014. Also higher employment has been in the northern states as opposed to southern states check the Niti aayog data. Also the IMF report on this. Mr. Thappar seems to push a narrative in this conversation. The Guest never uses words like authoritarian, majoritarian, etc its mostly the host doing so. Classic case of old habits die hard. The situation in India since 2014, has deteriorated so much that it seems almost impossible to correct. With absolute majority and dead opposition, India is heading for disaster. I really liked the book by Mr. Guha and found it very informative. However, this interview was clearly very biased. I heard a lot of allegations but little discussion on evidence. Mr. Thapar doesn’t even pretend to push back or try to inform the listener about any other perspective. The statement that Mr. Modi is Ms. Gandhi on steroids is equally laughable. While policies of Mr. Modi may be subverting the democratic process, Ms. Gandhi literally did that by declaring emergency and India is still dealing with its consequences today in terms of corruption. Mr. Modi clearly shows signs of narcissism but one cannot seriously liken him to a dictator. It’s a open secret that his victory is not because of unfair elections or his greatness but extremely weak opposition. The sad truth is to get likes and views in today’s atmosphere media has to take a love Modi or hate Modi stance. There are no facts in this interview, unemployment has steadily decreased YoY in India since 2014. Also higher employment has been in the northern states as opposed to southern states check the Niti aayog data. Also the IMF report on this. Mr. Thappar seems to push a narrative in this conversation. The Guest never uses words like authoritarian, majoritarian, etc its mostly the host doing so. Classic case of old habits die hard. And these are opinionated old men which propelled the authoritarian regime of congress which gave rise to the Khalistan movement. Why don’t you and Sri Ram Guha talk about subject of compromises done for majority Hindus feelings whose cultural heritage got eroded by previous constitutional changes and British trained lawyers who lead us in last 65 years. The situation in India since 2014, has deteriorated so much that it seems almost impossible to correct. With absolute majority and dead opposition, India is heading for disaster. I tried to explain my near and dear ones but they worship Modi. I don’t feel like visiting India. 5 years I haven’t visited as I feel sad/angry even talk/ meet my close relatives who blindly support Modi.

I really liked the book by Mr. Guha and found it very informative. However, this interview was clearly very biased. I heard a lot of allegations but little discussion on evidence. Mr. Thapar doesn’t even pretend to push back or try to inform the listener about any other perspective. The statement that Mr. Modi is Ms. Gandhi on steroids is equally laughable. While policies of Mr. Modi may be subverting the democratic process, Ms. Gandhi literally did that by declaring emergency and India is still dealing with its consequences today in terms of corruption. Mr. Modi clearly shows signs of narcissism but one cannot seriously liken him to a dictator. It’s a open secret that his victory is not because of unfair elections or his greatness but extremely weak opposition.
The sad truth is to get likes and views in today’s atmosphere media has to take a love Modi or hate Modi stance. Mr. Thapar is as biased and as lazy as the Hindi media he is criticizing, albeit in another direction.

There should be a discussion on which idea of Gandhi has actually usable in modern times. For eg. he blackmailed India into giving 55 crores to Pakistan. Now pakistan needs help. Very good point made by Mr Guha, which no one has paid much attention. South is relatively law-abiding and has better institutions and the social indices are higher. By injecting gutter politics of division into the region, we will destroy one of the fast progressing regions of the country.
Whole world is praising our PM and our economy under his leadership has gone to 3.5 trillion dollars and this great intellectual is saying India is in self destructive mode . We should elect him as PM so that it is in constructive mode .
