Great points. Similar to a lot of Primo beats, it is a very tight and repetitive loop which, by the time Nas starts his verse, is assimilated by the listener's ears so it settles in behind Nas's vocals and lets him play around with the space between the chops/drums. Unusual in that the loop has silence on the drop/first quarter of the loop. This is going to BANG in a live venue in any DJ set. Great chorus and concept. Nas's patterns are great choices and he sounds energetic. I agree with some that - and I subjectively hope that - it's used as an intro or better yet, an interlude, a counterpoint to a grander vision, but the whole album could very well use a 2 verse per song format that seems to be the modern standard (a lot of that on those Hit-Boy albums), I prefer those 4-5 min joints or 30-40 bar verses like on NY State of Mind, but then again a Nas verse isn't your normal 16... but the ONLY thing I hope is they don't rush their OWN process and try to put out something the size of Nasir... vs. really getting deep in the lab for a few months and generate a big body of work, pick the best ones, curate any cameos, find the illest samples, etc. etc.
I wasn’t one who was clamoring for the Nas and Premo project but I certainly welcome it as I do any project from the goat. Real solid joint for an introduction to the project. I have no issue with Nas' performance at all, the beat is just too basic and weak imo, you can't have an extremely short, tedious loop like that with no switch up in 2024, especially on the back of what Hi-Boy was doing. The standards have been raised, this genuinely sounds like a throwaway/unfinished beat, a beat anyone cudda made in 2 minutes on FL Studio. Premo is easily a top 5 producer (probably even top 3) and he's considered that for a reason. People are allowed to feel how they feel, if so many people are critical then it's because there's probably an element of truth to it, not bandwagoning or hating for the sake of it, people are disappointed at what shudda been the hardest track of the year. And I say all this as a shameless Nas/Premo fanboy who has followed their careers for nearly 25+ years from the UK! I hope the album is everything we all hoped for.

It's corny to say you don't want an album because of what other people will think. Let them complain, the rest of us will be bumping the album. Why let others opinions or feelings deter you from enjoying something. Some people are never happy and others are never happy that other are never happy. Lol.
Premo is more of a time keeper when he does beats for Nas. I would like for premo to go outside of nostalgia and create a different sound. It stretches both their talents and creativity. Give us 30 years of experience to create something great.
I Love that Nas & Preemo Joint it Knocks as you said it’s not Nas Is Like, NY State of mind etc it’s not supposed to it’s in it’s own lane it’s a warm up that hopefully a full length album is on its way DJ Premier is a maestro yes he has his sound but he still brings the Heat and Nas is top tier neither of them fell off 🔥🔥🔥

Nas RIPPED this track.Like any producer, Primo has his hits and misses. I like the beat, it’s dope. It ain’t one of his best and it’s far from one of his worst. I look forward to seeing him supply Nas with something on the level of “Runway” or “Shawn vs Flair” on the album. I don’t think Preem deserves the dragging that he’s receiving from so many heads.
It’s always trolls old and young but honestly it’s a 4.5 to me because the message and delivery was there 💯 Nas danced on that easy and Premo did what he needed to which wasn’t much but scratch and let Nas go off waiting for the Album 💯🫡
Nas went insane on this joint. Preme a legend and with that said the beat is very underwhelmingly mid. I was in the minority of those who didn't want to hear a Nas and Preme album and I still stand on that.

I appreciate that! Thank you fam
fire track, fire track. Had it on repeat when it dropped
Premo beat sounds a bit lazy and dated. Nas has certainly left him behind lyrically. If Premo can lean on Hit Boy to strengthen his joints, (when they do the project) then it’s game on for *2024 +.•➰〰️.•🔥🐐👑🎤*
It’s a dope track . That said, I’ll have fun with the acapella !
Solid track 💯
It’s a cool jawn. Nas was on point. The production is cool. I do believe this is a warm up. The jawn is solid. As far as beatbreaks, first was salty. Then I push my feeling aside. 50 yrs of Hiphop. They took it back to the essence. I’m not mad at it. We says we’re about the culture. Right. Enjoy your vacation. My wife and I will be in the town(NYC) this week. ✌🏿
Yo, I love it! I love hearing Nas spitting over boom bap
I like it, I think it’s a 3.5-4 out of 5, people need to get their heads out of their asses and just enjoy the music instead of trying to compare.
4.25, Nas was immaculate n the.beat was simple yet good n i luv the fact that prem kinda try rap in the end. I m happy the 2 of them finally takin it back to the lab for an album. They owe nuttin to nobody.
I don’t care about any other producer I just want to hear a Nas and premo album that’s it. Just like common and Pete Rock because I know the album is gonna be crazy. It’s about time we bring real hip-hop back hip-hop back.
Facts Eeze.
I would love him to have an album with prem and a lot of the the producers from illmatic.
That’s a solid idea! 💡
Most definitely. If they were smart. It's time for another matic album.
@@shonbenjamin5973how can Nas make another Illmatic when he isn’t in that time or mind frame anymore.
@crawlinginfaithbdalingo5515 Same way Stillmatic was in a different time frame and mindset.
Pay attention to my comment. I specifically said another "MATIC" album. Not another Illmatic
I Love that Nas & Preemo Joint it Knocks as you said it’s not Nas Is Like, NY State of mind etc it’s not supposed to it’s in it’s own lane it’s a warm up that hopefully a full length album is on its way DJ Premier is a maestro yes he has his sound but he still brings the Heat and Nas is top tier neither of them fell off 🔥🔥🔥
They screamed for 20 years for Premier, soon as him and Nas put a track to get the buzz out, mfers slander it 🤦🏾♂️ They hated Hit Boy 🤦🏾♂️ if Nas go work with Dr Dre, they'll find a way to hate Dre 🤷🏾♂️ these are not Nas fans doing this, these are Jay Z stans still mad over Ether
Dope song…been listening to it since it dropped.
I'm copping no matter what anyone is saying
As a fan of Nas, i always appreciate his music and i feel Nas gets flack for his beat selection. People are never satisfied
It’s always trolls old and young but honestly it’s a 4.5 to me because the message and delivery was there 💯 Nas danced on that easy and Premo did what he needed to which wasn’t much but scratch and let Nas go off waiting for the Album 💯🫡
Boom Bap Original Rap!
Nas went insane on this joint. Preme a legend and with that said the beat is very underwhelmingly mid. I was in the minority of those who didn't want to hear a Nas and Preme album and I still stand on that.
Let's just be clear Nas delivers everytime
All fact‼️💯🫡
Nas n Prem enjoy yourselves!
The track is great, I would say a solid 4.5 out of 5
