illmatic fans want illmatic 2. But Nas is an artist and as an artist, he evolves.
@user-ky8nd2rz4fhe should stay out the booth then
"Ayo, the brother's Stillmatic
I crawled up out of that grave, wipin' the dirt, cleanin' my shirt
They thought I'd make another Illmatic
But it's always forward I'm movin'
Never backwards stupid here's another classic"
First thing I noticed was how clean and pristine the pocket Nas was rhyming in. This album is on Premier in my opinion . Nas will show up !
🎯
so will Preemo as usual
People will never be happy, there is always something to complain about.
What's funny is that if u ask them what is it that ey shoulda done. There don't know as well but but downplay n criticize
@@zavozavo1663 facts
That beat was doo doo for Primio level
@@balle733 And the hitboy beats were doo doo too according to some. So there is no winning 🤷
@@balle73399 percent of hitboy beats for Nas were better then this beat by Dj premier. But I agree, Nas gets over criticized no matter what. Beat wasn’t bad tho. I just think Hitboy was that good.
Super 🔥. 4 for me. Copped. On repeat. Once again Nas saving the game..
💯💯💯
I Love The Track! It's 🔥, It's a Bop, and IT IS HIP HOP Fo Sho! 👑🙌🏾
The track was cool. It's an appetizer for what's to come. Even if they have 🔥🔥in the tuck, there's no way they're dropping that now before the full project is ready. I really enjoyed the Hit-Boy run. I thought working with different / younger producers gave Nas a spark. That being said, I will absolutely support this when it drops.
To play devil’s advocate, let me point out how back in the day they used to hit us with 🔥🔥🔥 from the jump and then hit us with a whole album full of 🔥🔥🔥🔥.
Facts Eeze. I don't wanna hear shit about how Hitboy need to be involved. No diss to him cause he's great but this is PREMO and NAS. They don't need no help with this and if they need some other opinions if your name aint Large Pro, Q Tip, or Pete Rock then just let these guys cook. Thee end smh.
I like it. 4 in the headphones. In the car.....4.5
💯💯💯
Premo beat sounds a bit lazy and dated. Nas has certainly left him behind lyrically. If Premo can lean on Hit Boy to strengthen his joints, (when they do the project) then it’s game on for *2024 +.•➰〰️.•🔥🐐👑🎤*
I ain't gonna lie, when I heard the track on the jbl's I was like the beat was light, but when I heard it in the ride, that shit knocked like a mf'er. They know what's at stake. They will deliver a great project
I tell people this all the time for 20 Years, a part of Hip-Hop audiences HATE NAS. The easiest thing to point to is bad PRODUCTION choices, now it’s bleeding on to the actual producers. It started with the Trackmasters went to Salaam Remi, touched HitBoy, now Premier.
Correct, I remember how MFs were hating on the trackmaaters, look at all those classics the made and Remi too, his shit was fire.
The casuals are the only catz bitchin on Premo production. This pure HipHop for us Tru Heads
The casuals need to shut the fuck up shits 🔥🔥
In art you’re measured among your peers. What Hitboy did with Magic and some tracks, was update, refine and modernise the Preemo 90s sound. Premier has to at least keep up with if not step up even more. There’s nothing wrong with competition, that is hip hop. I love the track but Nas outshines the production and carries the song. Nothing wrong with that. As long as the rest of the album is not just one sample looped a hundred times with no progression people will be okay with it. This is just a heads up to Premier to step up in the arena. Peace.
This is what I’m afraid of with a Nas and Premo album. Whereas Hit-Boy gave Nas a contemporary sound I think Premier will give Nas more of a late 90’s sound. I still plan on listening to the album and I hope to God I’m wrong.
@@Polostar79what’s wrong with the late 90’s sound? There’s definitely a lot of people asking for that style. Look at all these new songs straight sampling and pitching up entire late 90’s and early 2000’s songs.
@@Mar.Escobar24 there’s nothing wrong with it. I just think Nas had evolved past what Premo is able to give him.
Eeze they hating nas bodied that im loving it
Nah... Nas carried it. And that's the issue.
I thought Hit-Boy's run was nothing short of genius. But even if it wasn't there's VERY RARELY any 4-bar loops that can sustain my attention at a high level for a full song. I'm not asking for Premo to make "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", but damn... This ain't Guru. Level up.
Song is cool. As much as I love Preem as a producer to me his sound is still a little stuck in 1998. I think had this record dropped 10-15 years ago I would’ve been more excited about it. Right now I’m just kinda meh on it.
Y'all generalizing. The people complaining about this new track are not the same ones complaining about Hitboy. The beat is clearly dated and basic. Hitboy took the musicality to a level I'm afraid Preemo won't meet at this time.
I’m glad you spoke on this people are so predictable and corny. I knew as soon as they released something cats were going to say it sounds dated yet the same cats did nothing but criticize Hitboy’s beats. Nas has a weird following…
Bruh that's not Nas fans or following🤦🏾♂️
Nas blacked on that second verse
✍🏾🔥🔥🔥
3.75, Nas spit heavy on it. But the beat sounds like he left some stuff out
The lyrics saved this joint!!
Been on repeat! And I just purchased the vinyl!!!!🔥
I like the Beat Breaks beat more, but Nas elevated this new track.
It’s a feel good track. I like it.
You can’t reason with twitter. Let them be.
Agreed. It may not even be on the album tbh. I think it's more of a teaser of what's to come.
@@user-gb2vk2ff8x That's what I was saying
Nas RIPPED this track.Like any producer, Primo has his hits and misses. I like the beat, it’s dope. It ain’t one of his best and it’s far from one of his worst. I look forward to seeing him supply Nas with something on the level of “Runway” or “Shawn vs Flair” on the album.
I don’t think Preem deserves the dragging that he’s receiving from so many heads.
We all Know Preem can go Crazy but The way He did the Drums was on Purpose and No Hat like you said... He didn't even do the Xtras on the Scratches.. just Mad Space to get ill no Obstruction.. Pristine Mix... Purposefully on Purpose and I love it...
🧢
I think its deff a solid intro
I agree
Real talk! Stay healthy and prosperous brother! ✊🏾
I appreciate that! Same to you and yours 🤝🏾
There is a subtle hi hat, but it's only on the 1/4th measure, so the kick and the snare mask it. But I get what you saying. This joint is DOPE! The beat reminds me of something Preme would've done on The Gangstarr "Ownerz" album. Very minimalistic but very serviceable. Dope joint indeed.
Thank u my brother. Us as humans we like what we like .I luv it lets stop comparing. IM DONE
I've been a Preemo stan since 'Step In The Arena'. NOBODY has been a bigger ambassador of a Nas/Premier album more than me.
That being said, Define My Name, production wise was iight.
It wasn't bad...
But I was hoping & expecting a neck snappin' eargasm. It sounded a little more pedestrian.
I thought 'Beat Breaks' was more of a standout track sonically, if we're judging their more recent work.
Nas & Preemo have a pretty high bar of previous work. The standard is AND should be higher than just about any other Nas producer, minus Large Pro & Hit Boy. That's just what it is.
I don't think it's being overly critical that ppl want & expect an entire album of Nas & Premier to be monumental. Might not be achievable because artistically, they both have evolved past their previous work. BUT the standard is the standard.
I agree
But anything Nas do I'm supporting. But I will be unbiased. Peace E
I didn’t love how simple the beat was even for premo but nas more than bodied it. Def love the drum kick 3/5 beat nas 5/5 I like it.
I wasn’t one who was clamoring for the Nas and Premo project but I certainly welcome it as I do any project from the goat. Real solid joint for an introduction to the project.
I’m a little surprised at the take this is progression from beat break but music is obviously so subjective. I actually loved beat break and would rank that beat better than this but it’s solid without question.
It's corny to say you don't want an album because of what other people will think. Let them complain, the rest of us will be bumping the album. Why let others opinions or feelings deter you from enjoying something. Some people are never happy and others are never happy that other are never happy. Lol.
I had to listen to it a few times.. Nas rhyme scheme is nasty!!🔥🔥. They are so upset that they are not hearing what Nas said!! Nas is like Biggie in the way that he can be gangsta on commercial songs. People can't make up their minds.
When the album drops haters better keep that same energy🫡🗽
I have no issue with Nas' performance at all, the beat is just too basic and weak imo, you can't have an extremely short, tedious loop like that with no switch up in 2024, especially on the back of what Hi-Boy was doing. The standards have been raised, this genuinely sounds like a throwaway/unfinished beat, a beat anyone cudda made in 2 minutes on FL Studio. Premo is easily a top 5 producer (probably even top 3) and he's considered that for a reason. People are allowed to feel how they feel, if so many people are critical then it's because there's probably an element of truth to it, not bandwagoning or hating for the sake of it, people are disappointed at what shudda been the hardest track of the year. And I say all this as a shameless Nas/Premo fanboy who has followed their careers for nearly 25+ years from the UK! I hope the album is everything we all hoped for.
You can't have an extremely short, tedious loop like that with no switch up in 2024... well said, b. This is the real issue with that jawn, real talk.
This was a TASTE. A clean 4/5 for me. It was classic Preem sounds and classic Nasty with the vocals. I love this straight hip hop feel that never left them.
Yo Eeze dear dudes ain’t Nas fans!!!
Nasty work!
The diss respect to premo has been unbelievable. The record is incredible lyrics and the beat. Broke my neck with the screwface.
Beat is wack
Talkin down on Premo.... Those are people that dont like authentic hip hop and rap. Premier makes rap music that sets the stage to let the rappers words and flow be highlighted so you listen to it and get the respect for the rhyme. This gen are looking for dominant melody that dictate what the rapper does so they gotta ride with or compete with the beat. This is fine sometimes and for certain things but those beats are also a way to hide the MCs lack of skill.
Nas went insane on this joint. Preme a legend and with that said the beat is very underwhelmingly mid. I was in the minority of those who didn't want to hear a Nas and Preme album and I still stand on that.
That beat was not good. How is Primo gonna improve if we don’t critique it.
Nas chose the beat… 🤷🏾♂️
@@Eeze Doesn’t Primo make his beat on the spot for a particular artist?
Agree
Well said.
That beat light nas lyrics priceless Tia jawn mid
Beats and Bars. Nas and Premier cant give us a NYSOM or Nas Is Like Everytime. This joint is fire. Simple and to the point. Lets celebrate Nas being 30 years in the game and still dropping jewels. You can tell he is having fun and doing it with eeze. If they drop a album, definitely buying it and will appreciate it no matter what. What do you want NAS to do. He gives us everything. NO ONE IS DOING WHAT HE IS DOING. 4 OUT 5
That joint boring & Nas is the best rapper period
It’s not good enough. Simple as that. When it’s good, we celebrate it. When it’s not, we can’t say it? I don’t understand. Nas is definitely rapping at the level that should be celebrated. Premo, however, needs to step it up. Simple as that.
wtf are you even talking about?
@@mpjdu2425 it’s a stupid beat. Dumb ass meaningless beat. Two random ass loops, over and over again. Premo used to create an image, a feeling with his chops. You don’t like the truth, that’s fine. You won’t be playing this a week from now.
Facts ....lazy ass beat
Big facts... that does apply to anyone anywhere who has to deliver and deliver at a high level, especially when they've done so before, thus creating great expectations.
HE SHOULD GET THE SAME PRODUCERS AS ILLMATIC AND SINCE ITS THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY DO A ILLMATIC ANNIVERSARY EDITION NEW 24 ILLMATIC I MISS THATS 90S NY HIP HOP PEACE
I think it’s a very dope track. People critique too much, sometimes let’s just enjoy what it is.
Peace and Blessings Eeze!! Great commentary in the AM. Suckas are gonna be suckas, let them keep doing what they do and us day 1's keep listening to The Golden Child and witnessing greatness...
Preemo needs to update the formula. I'm a for real of Preem, he just needs to update, like Guru said, "We update our formulas"
Like?
IT'S NEVER GONNA HAPPEN
Agree with you bro! They asked for it now its a problem, this is classic Premier with hod son dope hip-hop, now yall want some new sound no lets enjoy The simplicity of dope music

I've been arguing this since Friday!!Now Nas&Preemo are Washed up according to sum of these idiots..I told them, they don't deserve any New Nas&Preemo LP..Go back to listening to your Drakes/WeakMill/RickRoss/and all your other weak rhyme heroes..Both of these dudes sound gets better with age..Thx 4 this Eeze..Peace..
Loving the background and your perspective get yours cheaaaa!
4 of 5 for me. I like the track. Much better than Beat Breaks. NaS is on point lyrically, and Preemo provided just enough production for NaS to do his thing. I do expect more from Preemo, as NaS is still on God level lyrically.
They screamed for 20 years for Premier, soon as him and Nas put a track to get the buzz out, mfers slander it 🤦🏾♂️ They hated Hit Boy 🤦🏾♂️ if Nas go work with Dr Dre, they'll find a way to hate Dre 🤷🏾♂️ these are not Nas fans doing this, these are Jay Z stans still mad over Ether
It’s was fast, but it worked. Beat breaks was absolute fire BTW. I’m 💯% confident that there is going to be a number of classics with this project.
This generation complains all the time. That's what they do. Thats their mission in life. Troll and complain. Never action and support. Just negative comments and trolling.
Real HipHop heads knows it’s just an intro , Plus you can’t explain to people who just listen for beats and can’t explain nothing to Trap heads . I just happy it’s finally happening know matter what it sounds like. Hit Boy is an amazing producer ….im glad Nas put me on 👂🏽.
Can anyone help me open a bank account in USA. Am from Africa I need to verify my PayPal account and that requires owning an account in USA. I need the PayPal account for the internet hustle. Please if anyone can help God bless you man...
Define my Name is a 7 out of 10. Anybody not wanting this project is not a real Nas Head. We been waiting on this collab since the 90s. And this isn't the first single off the album. This is a unreleased for mixtapes. Real Nas Heads have a collection of Nas unreleased songs. These fake Nas Fans jumped on at Stillmatic and Godson...and that is a stretch. Nas has always done what he wanted to do with out listening to so-called fans. He is not checking to see if we want the album. Nas is circling back and giving his real hard-core fans what they wanted. Obviously Premo is saving fire for Nas new projects. But Nas picks his own beats love it or hate it. I don't listen to fake Nas Fans opinions. Premo album and a AZ album is what we want as Real Nas Heads. Ask these fake fans to list there top 10 Nas songs..I bet only two make my Nas list.
I felt the same way about a nas n premo album honestly. The magic was in the elusiveness of their collaborations. If they work exclusively together one album may not unpack that magic off jump.
It's all decades long anti-Nas propaganda, I found it quite refreshing to find media personalities like Eeze, Coop etc who counter all that with facts. Keep it up man, Nas is the best ever. As for the song, all I heard was a classic from the first listen.
I ain't even know dude's were talking stupid bout premo. This record is fire, anything they do together to me can't miss
Nas & Premo are two legends that still REPRESENT hip hop to this day. Salute to both of them.
N.Y. State Of Mind style.
Eaze u preaching!!!! People will never be satisfied..they hating on Nas beat selection. Preemo and Hit boy been killing it with Nas
Nas was gliding on that beat but folks still gonna front it.....please go find the "real hip hop" you looking for if this ain't good enough. Stay on their neck Eeze💯
This is evil. Preemo's touch is obvious and satisfying. All it took was one hater and others picked up on it but genuine fans love this. Nas is philosophical as usual and Al-Nas is the last and 114th chap of the Qur'an and symbolically I feel Nas will be among the last of those who bring us real hip hop as our culture is given away freely to the world to claim as theirs.
The entire Nas hit boy run was mediocre to me, but this premo track was hard. I’m looking forward to the as premo album.
It’s always trolls old and young but honestly it’s a 4.5 to me because the message and delivery was there 💯 Nas danced on that easy and Premo did what he needed to which wasn’t much but scratch and let Nas go off waiting for the Album 💯🫡
Lol I hear you...when you make beats the ears are more critical...and I thought it was a basic beat but still an improvement from previous production he has done...but I really look at it as a nice introduction to better things...and premo probably made it simple given it room for nas to just spit.
Most people that are complaining probably listen to music that is maybe less intricate. Hip-Hop has different categories now, admit it or not and most people stick with their age bracket. I listen to all kinds of music. I'm more selective when it comes to this though because it's something we came up with, black Americans, the youngest ethnicity on the planet
I like it, I think it’s a 3.5-4 out of 5, people need to get their heads out of their asses and just enjoy the music instead of trying to compare.
I Love that Nas & Preemo Joint it Knocks as you said it’s not Nas Is Like, NY State of mind etc it’s not supposed to it’s in it’s own lane it’s a warm up that hopefully a full length album is on its way DJ Premier is a maestro yes he has his sound but he still brings the Heat and Nas is top tier neither of them fell off 🔥🔥🔥
Nas biggest gift is his curse . Only MC the fans hold to their first album . 30 yrs later . Unheard of .
I love the new song it’s incredible in my opinion. Album gon be crazy. Im excited that it finally going down.
This album will be for the culture and for us who missed the 80-00s hip-hop
Premo is more of a time keeper when he does beats for Nas. I would like for premo to go outside of nostalgia and create a different sound. It stretches both their talents and creativity. Give us 30 years of experience to create something great.
Nas in his bag on this jawn.... Premier a goat but coulda did betta, but lets see what comin nexx.
My man Eeze is out somewhere tropical‼️🌴🍹🫡
Cant wait for this premo
I want it to sound as old and dated as possible- last time i checked that was called vintage!!
Cant wait for drums and bars
As a fan of Nas, i always appreciate his music and i feel Nas gets flack for his beat selection. People are never satisfied
I agree with eeze this track is pure hip hop 90s sounds I feel like the album gonna be if u like these current sounds metro boomin type beats this might not be for u this is hip hop
Way ta preach this morning bruh.
🫡
Primos sound is not dated. We want the dated beats he did. It seems he’s trying to sound current and messing up. The drums don’t hit the same. That sample was weak
Sound like true hip hop when I hear this track I picture vinyl
Culture vultures they never were satisfied on any rap artist no matter who it is it’s just them but I love that Nas n Premo joint real hip hop salute 🫡
It’s a dope track . That said, I’ll have fun with the acapella !
They are in the best space to do the album. No pressure. Nas up and just having fun.
Yo, I love it! I love hearing Nas spitting over boom bap
I approve this message
The track is great, I would say a solid 4.5 out of 5
I love beat brakes … anyways define my name is Fire 🔥 5 out of 5
Nas is always ahead. The critiques will catch up years later.
Much Respect my G!! Preeeeach! There are so many haters, so many people complaining! There’s a show that I no longer subscribe to as they are all over the place with where they stand with Nas his music His career. It’s The Rap Round Table. I want to like n appreciate these brothers cuz they are Us they are brothers, but the Nas critique is something I can no longer listen to. These Brothers actually rated Magic a 4.5, only one gave it a 4.75. Magic is flawless. Instant 5 mics. To find a flaw on that masterpiece??? You must have an agenda. At one point they called Nas the goat, but stay lowballing him. Anyway enough about them.
Salute to Nas n Preemo. Looking forward to their project. Nas = Goat.
In this water down corny era of music this is a breath of fresh air and it’s hip hop at its core. We have Nas at 50 sounding like he’s still hungry.
I'm copping no matter what anyone is saying
Nas the 🐐! Song is dope ! Nas stay dropping gems.
