Yes, it does deserve praise because that album has a lot of substance to it. LL is spitting and flowing funky fresh! The music is fresh, yet unorthodox, which makes it appealing for me. That 30 Decembers, I feel that joint in my heart. The marriage of the music and the way LL expresses the experience of his venture.... just does it for me. I listen to that album at least 2, 3 times a week since its release in September.
@@BdalingoFitnEnt never in My life pumped a ll cool j album 😂 no way no how. Name me a classic album not song album. All tht 80s shit was good but whn nas came all tht shit was dead.
The album is fire to me. One of Snoop’s best albums. I get that it might not be for everybody, but I enjoyed it as a musician, so my appreciation for the instrumentation might be different. I can appreciate the chord changes, the transitions and the sequencing. It was a masterclass. It’s not a vibey album that a lot of people like. It’s not East Coast hip hop like Common and Pete Rock’s album. Missionary is like a Hip Hop musical, they have a short film to go with it. It has its own sound, it doesn’t sound like anything else that’s out. As far as some songs having a lot of writers, most of it is attributed to sample clearances, features, and musicians. A writing credit isn’t just lyrics, but the music composition also. For example, if a bass player composed and played a live bassline they got a writer credit.
This album was a hard listen. To the point that I couldn't make it through a second time. And let's just call it what it is- Both Dre and Snoop are masters of taking the help around them and claiming it as theirs. And it's finally caught up to them from the sounds of this album. It had Anderson Paak and a litany of others written all over it. I can name several albums this year that were better.
I think you guys need to listen to it one more time... When I first heard the first few songs I thought it was just okay until I listen again I started to like it... Dr Dre set the bar so high that any other producer that might have produced this probably would have been praised... But because it's Dr Dre the standard is out of this world!... But I give it four stars out of five for this album!
The fact You got to keep trying it telling u that it's not it. Not in the car not in house an not in them beats by Dre. It's called missionary but should be impotent
When you see writers, it's not only the lyricists, it includes the songwriters of the sampled track. The songwriters include the person who composed the music as well as the person who penned the lyrics
So in one week, your allowed to be up here sayin Dre fell off, Snoop fell off, the mixing is bad the sequencing is bad, and its just you "Being Real". But we are not allowed to love the album just as much, just as fast, without being called "Emotional"?
You love the album huh? Just say that! Instead of making up ish… “My opinion isn’t the end all be all” was that not stated? Who said Dre fell off? Perhaps you missed that “he’s the standard” Snoop fell off or he’s giving a pass for having a dozen + ghostwriters? Mixing bad? I said that? When? Yes, I believe you’re being very “EMOTIONAL” 🤷🏾♂️
@Eeze YES! I am being being emotional. But why do you think that is a BAD Thing? The music is good. The music makes me FEEL GOOD! I have played it to my friends, they FELT it was good! WE LAUGHED, WE DANCED, we drank Gin and Juice and had a GREAT Time! That does not make us wrong, just like your analytical position and high expectations don't make you right. Why? Because it's WEEK ONE! Why don't you try spending a month listening to the album and making a REAL review, like proper journalists and Hip Hop scholars actually do?
Why is it a bad thing? because when you’re emotional, people have e the tendency to deviate away from the facts. I clearly stated that my opinion “isn’t the end all be all”, but somehow you’re taking it personal. It’s my opinion! If you like the album press play and run the numbers up. 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
I think a lot of people have been trained to give high praise to everything Dre does even if it doesnt hit the mark. People always talkin about his sonics. When I listened to this album on the 13th, the songs just wasnt hittin me. Im not one of these people that was expecting a Gin & Juice. Snoop was like early 20's and Dre was mid to late 20's when they made that. They're grandparents now so I get it. Missionary is just a working title with no correlation to their first album. They cant make G-Funk or gangsta music but there were songs they've done through the years that were dope ass records. "Lay Low", "Chin Check", "Imagine" to name a few. Snoop did his thing but the beats didnt fit to me. "Shangri-La" sounds like something out of Marsha Ambrosius "Casablanca" sessions that Dre did. There's a bunch of others that just didnt hit the mark. "Gorgeous" is so safe, redundant...and clean but Snoop pulled it through lyrically even tho it sounds like he had a lot of inspiration by whoever was in those sessions with him. Missionary is definitely not album of the year. To me Pete and Common still has it. I feel that out of Dre/Snoop, LL/Q Tip, Pete and Common were the only ones who cohesively put together a great album from start to finish, kept it hip hop in a more mature polished fashion. Dope ass rollout too. They definitely deserve a Grammy!!
Yes, this album is just OK. Snoop should have wrote his own Rhymes and a little bit more hardcore songs on now.Ner windy hardcore hip hop not gangster hip hop hardcore
Speaking as a long time music producer, singer, songwriter and overall artist. I have come to the conclusion that it’s all taste and preference. Different things appeal to different people for different reasons. Some like things based on marketing and hype, some like things based on where they are mentally at the time. Personally I think the intro and first four songs are perfectly sequenced, and the overall album is pretty good. It’s not great based on my taste…..but far from bad.
Happy holidays Eeze! Missionary is a grab bag of an album that doesn't have a particular theme or direction. No cuisine can incorporate every taste simultaneously. Smaller scale, less experimentation would have yielded more consistent results. It's not bad but it's not truly great either.
Eeze. Allow me to confess, I'm biased toward my era and I'm hopeful the newer generation will take it seriously, and be meticulous, and not just a vibe. I usually grade a 90's artist little higher the first few listens and then my true feelings set in. There are two things I've noticed. First, the formula for greatness to me comes from two artists working solely together (Common & Pete, Nas & Hit-Boy). Second, producers like Dre and Rza stray away from pure hiphop with idea of growing as instrumentalists, but ends up sounding like too many ingredients or watered down. Peace. I appreciate your commentary.
I turned 20 this year but Snoop has had writers since “Doggystyle” why do people have a problem with it now? & im not a fan of ghostwriters at all but ion see why people dislike it now but im assuming didn’t then and any other time he’s had writers?
Good video and takes here, Eeze. Glad you stated for those of us, who aren't feeling this album, that we weren't necessarily looking for the Chronic 2.0 or Doggystyle 2. Instead, good music that's somewhat true to the legacies Snoop & Dr. Dre, is what we wanted. This album is just simply not it. Dropping a pop-based bubblegum-sounding album amidst this year's west coast resurgance, is just tone deaf.
We gotta also remember to add context when we speak of music and albums aswell. Snoop and Dre are veterans. Snoop said he didn’t make no real paper in this game until recently fr. Its clear that he on some boss, money, bidness ish. Yes the album is more pop and no real G Funk. Musically the album is top tier incredible doe imo. It’s like a Black Great Gasby type vibe. It’s for the world not us unfortunately. 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
I’m in no rush to hear that, but I know Dre got co-producers all over the shit and hired two niggas to write 90% of Snoop’s rhymes. That’s crazy to me.
Finally someone that agrees with me, im'a call it what it is, this album is not good, I expected Dre to produce the hell outta this album, and he didn't do that, smh

Would i give Missionary AOTY consideration??? No, that's either Pete Rock and Common or Skyzoo.. that was the first time they did an album together in 30 years. I also didn't know they were doing an album until the day it dropped.. that being said, the album had its highlights and lows. That track Pressure Snoop had a Slick Rick flow that was sick. Last hit of Mary Jane was ok Jelly killed it. But i can listen to it while im drving to and from work. I'm just glad the OGs are dropping music and showing age ain't nothing but a number. 🫡🫡🫡
@junestevens5123 I won't say that cause Common and Pete was locked in!! But an Eeze vid about Skyzoo album made me go listen.. and that shit deserves it.. both albums were a cleanse of the ears for me..
People need to have more of an open mind and give it another listen. Music grows on you too. Sometimes you’re not gonna like it on your first listen. It’s a thought out ALBUM with quality beats and rhymes and everything else you want on a rap album. Plus they pushed the bar and needle too. Gotta see the vision as well.
Is this album of the year? No but is it "Mid"? That term has become a go to response in the zeitgeist. It's quality work that I enjoy listening to. To each their own how it falls on your ears..
The album is just okay, imo. For me there was no out of the box new sounds. The samples were just that, meaning you knew exactly what songs Dre used. No chopping and mixing beats or sounds. Just loops of songs, if you know what I mean. This is why imo, HitBoy and The Alchemist keep dropping crazy work. They really digging in them crates and finding new sounds and samples
That missionary album is not any kind of successor to Doggy style it comes off more like a mixtape than an actual album 31 years later and this is what they came up with it's really disappointing
What's the criteria? Off the top of my head I would think "Firstly it's the competition." What albums would this album be up against. I haven't listened to the album. I'm about to listen to it now. Thanks.
My AsOTY (TOP FIVE) 1. Black & Whites - Big Hit 2. Stimulus Package 2 - Freeway 3. Auditorium Vol. 1 - Common 4. Not Now Am Busy - Joyner Lucas 5. GNX - Kendrick Lamar
Us as Blsck Americans need to stop holding this ghost writing thing so close to our heart…. That’s the perfect way to provide other people the opportunity to feed their family’s….. the moment you discredit something because of that takes food off of their plate.
Media personalities and podcasters caping for Dre and Snoop i don’t get it, album had no songs with impact, notable lyrics, features, no evidence of it being album of the year
definitely not album of the year, but again that is all opinion and personal preference. I did like the album had my feet tapping all the way through it, so to me it did what is was supposed too, I listened to music to bop my head too, not have a therapy session 😂😂
I’ve yet to listen to Missionary. Honestly I’m afraid to. 😂 I’m disappointed and ain’t even heard it yet. I facepalmed myself when they first announced the album awhile back…
I love your breakdown and explanation of why this album didn't do it for you but I have to say one thing regarding ghostwriting. If Snoop is on tracks calling himself the best rapper with a ghostwriter, then he's disqualified. I haven't heard him bragging about being the best rapper. That's the one caveat I will add to that.
On the other note Eminem's album that was not produced by Dre, only 2 songs, was an album worth a sequel. That was what I expected..... i ended up giving Snoops album a 7/10 I like it but to me was to commercialized
Man I tried to listen to that Em album but it was terrible. Had to cut it off soon as he started rapping about his gay fantasies again lol ua-cam.com/video/5alNhSmAkNI/v-deo.htmlsi=WzhM5XoroAGdVTG4
The negatives for me is ghost writers and producers on this album hence I don't put them on the list of best rapper and producer but the album itself is well produced well sequenced and well written. Overall a great album which is going to win rap album of the year at the Grammys
This album is dope, and i like it better than common and Pete Rock, and i agree to disagree of your sport comparison, MUSIC IS SUBJECTIVE, good music for people who are listening to this please go listen for yourself ON A GOOD SYSTEM, Dr.Dre is Quincy Jones on this my opinion
To be fair, the same way you’re saying people are giving the album too much credit too early maybe you saying it’s not that good could be premature, you are being over critical to me
Here’s the thing, if I said all you wanted to hear, what you say I was praising it too much? In the video I emphatically stated “my opinion isn’t the end all be all”… if you like the album continue to listen to it 🤷🏾♂️
@ Yeah, I got what you said however it’s how you say it, not the same if it was a Nas project 🤨 that all It’s all objective and subjective so not really about my feelings just an observation Peace
No wayyyy is snoop nd Dre album is definitely not da AOTY…common nd Pete rock is up there for musicality but I need another listen to give u who had da best project for this year…I thought the same after hearing a few tracks off the new snoop nd Dre album come like compilation nd really didn’t hit da same or have cohesion nor progression through da album
I thought Eeze would be critical on the Jellyroll/Tom Petty Mary Jane joint . I was betting that he’d eat his words once the full album came out . I was wrong , but to Dre’s defense I think Eeze is being extra harsh because of his expectations and what the album should sound like. Dre and Snoop both were not hiding that they didn’t write everything. As a fan this video pissed me off because I want Dre to keep dropping music . I don’t think the album was as bad as he said . But I still rock with you Eeze . I just think anything that doesn’t sound like what we have been fed in main stream should be celebrated. The sonics in the album are amazing. The sequencing I thought Eeze was accurate and I think the Sting track is solid . On a separate note that new Fat Joe has some bangers . The production with Cool & Dre is nasty !
Why would Dre stop dropping music because of myself or any other person’s opinions? To be honest, being a huge fan of his didn’t motivate him to drop music consistently either. 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
I feel the same about Kendrick's album . His buzz was so high, i knew the reaction to anything he dropped would be a overreaction. Like Missionary, its good but nowhere near a classic. In fact if we talking both snoop and kdot Discography, both albums fall towards the back end. Respectfully
Technically, he was "spittin," but was saying a whole lotta nothing. Obviously ghost written bars, too. Verses were technically proficient, but lacked that soul we've come to love Snoop for.
Commercial rap is so blatantly cancerous. Even after 3.5 decades; we aren’t calling it out. I cant think of 3 sentences of good advice from a snoop and Dre album.
@Eeze i mention cause anything that drop in da months from months of October 28 2024 until now is competition for album for year for 2025 and he's drop and I play it only twice its not connecting with me value reply very low missionary I play more in szyzoo got bars this album he drop don't work for me
You right, Eeze. The album is mid for real. I bought it with my own money. The album is tooo pop. The song with 50 and Eminem was mediocre too. Especially 50. He can't rap anymore. Learned that from his verse with Nas on Magic 2. The beats were good but not Dre's best. The sequencing was off too. You are right. There were way better albums than Missionary this year. Lupe Fiasco - Samurai Common/Pete Rock - The Auditorium Vol. 1 Logic - Ultra 85 Freddie Gibbs - You Only Live 1nce (which is my album of the year) LL Cool J - The Force Kendrick Lamar - GNX was better than Missionary J. Cole - Might Delete Later.
None of those other albums sound ANYTHING like this album!...and the argument with ghostwriters doesn't matter in this conversatiion in this "hip-hop" area, because no one is calling him the GOAT rapper!...this is about how the albums sounds...not the same convo...
I always count on you to give the most educated and unbiased most objective reviews . Even when I have my biases I always wait for your reviews coz you are genuine . This album was trash . 🗑️
I have listened to it multiple times and it is not album of the year. First have of the album is not good but it gets better towards the end but still mid. Common and Pete Rock was way better. Nas and Hitboy set the bar super high with their run
Skyzoo, PR and Common, and LL for me. Kendrick’s album goes hard too but those aforementioned albums speaks to this NY old head the right way. Love to all tho.
I like how thoro you explain things, cause other people don’t articulate themselves as well. People are just saying it’s wack without explaining. I was confused as to “why, from what perspective”. I totally agree with your perspective. Also I think the “Last dance with Mary Jane” track is 🔥!
Great review, love the energy and tha hat, Happy Holidays!
I appreciate the support! Happy Holidays!
The Force by LL Cool J and Q-Tip needs more praise. Easily one of the best albums that’s came out this year.
But nobody is listening to it and Snoop is not going to get the same feel today like Will Smith that song hits but people are not going to feel it
For me I didn’t get that Force album. The bars were all over the play chasing the beats
Yes, it does deserve praise because that album has a lot of substance to it. LL is spitting and flowing funky fresh! The music is fresh, yet unorthodox, which makes it appealing for me. Common & Pete album over all this year. That is all ....
LL cool J and Q Tip The Force is a better listen
Marciology & RICHAXXHATIAN for me! Common/Pete then Skyzoo right after. Good year

My AsOTY (TOP FIVE)
1. Black & Whites - Big Hit
2. Stimulus Package 2 - Freeway
3. Auditorium Vol. 1 - Common
4. Not Now Am Busy - Joyner Lucas
5. GNX - Kendrick Lamar
Big hit ? 😂
I wonder if they continue to push the album beyond the first week rollout.
Half filler, the rest is karaoke and a couple ok/good songs. 😂
Doubt it. Outside of potential product and movie trailer placement, this World Cup sounding azzed album has no legs.
@@MichaelBrown-ti1un "world cup" album 🤣🤣🤣. He's become too much of a "brand" to really enjoy his music in any way outside of a song here and there.
Us as Blsck Americans need to stop holding this ghost writing thing so close to our heart…. That’s the perfect way to provide other people the opportunity to feed their family’s….. the moment you discredit something because of that takes food off of their plate.
Album is 🔥🔥🔥
If you want authentic WC - Ice Cubes new one. I like missionary but I'm missing the 808.
YO EEZE INDEED 🎯
💯💯🫡
Media personalities and podcasters caping for Dre and Snoop i don’t get it, album had no songs with impact, notable lyrics, features, no evidence of it being album of the year
definitely not album of the year, but again that is all opinion and personal preference. I did like the album had my feet tapping all the way through it, so to me it did what is was supposed too, I listened to music to bop my head too, not have a therapy session 😂😂
I’ve yet to listen to Missionary. Honestly I’m afraid to. 😂
I’m disappointed and ain’t even heard it yet.
I aint gonna lie. The only rappers i listen to nowadays is dudes from Jersey, Rochester and Buffalo.
A lot of those writers were from samples or interpolations
Not the album of the year, but it was cool they did something different. It didn’t pop like nas an hit tho.
On the other note Eminem's album that was not produced by Dre, only 2 songs, was an album worth a sequel. That was what I expected..... i ended up giving Snoops album a 7/10 I like it but to me was to commercialized
Man I tried to listen to that Em album but it was terrible. Had to cut it off soon as he started rapping about his gay fantasies again lol

The negatives for me is ghost writers and producers on this album hence I don't put them on the list of best rapper and producer but the album itself is well produced well sequenced and well written. Overall a great album which is going to win rap album of the year at the Grammys
Produced by: ?
Written by: ?
Engineered by: Dre
Performed by: Snoop
👀👀👀
Bruh it's produced by dre wtf are you talking about
Dre and a team of other 🥷’s 🤣
@@KMLTradesfacts Dre is famous for that
This album is dope, and i like it better than common and Pete Rock, and i agree to disagree of your sport comparison, MUSIC IS SUBJECTIVE, good music for people who are listening to this please go listen for yourself ON A GOOD SYSTEM, Dr.Dre is Quincy Jones on this my opinion
Which is why we should attempt to be OBJECTIVE! You know, Call it how it s is without being distorted by our personal feelings.
I was honestly disappointed and not impressed at all with the snoop album. They missed the mark on Missionary.
The last Dogg Pound album was fire though. It aint hate or being stuck in the past.
I actually showed love to that album earlier this year in July…. It’s fire!
To me the albums of the year it’s
1)Common and Pete Rock
2)Skyzoo
3)Kurious
🔥
DoggyStyle was 1993 not 1994
We’re aware, November of 1993 to be exact. I’m responding to the comments left on the UA-cam short that mentioned ‘94
What makes it even more disappointing is that this may be Dre’s last produced project
Definitely not AOTY irs not a classic it's a good listen tho that signature dre sound was missing
I was for looking for funk....that G funk!!
Me too, he should have came out with an elevated GFunk style album …that’s what I was looking for
That’s exactly what we got.
To be fair, the same way you’re saying people are giving the album too much credit too early maybe you saying it’s not that good could be premature, you are being over critical to me
Here’s the thing, if I said all you wanted to hear, what you say I was praising it too much? In the video I emphatically stated “my opinion isn’t the end all be all”… if you like the album continue to listen to it 🤷🏾♂️
@
Yeah, I got what you said however it’s how you say it, not the same if it was a Nas project 🤨 that all
It’s all objective and subjective so not really about my feelings just an observation
Peace
This is a masterpiece fam I totally disagree with you this time
Masterpiece? Ok! I Respect your opinion.
Im just waiting on the detox.
K.A.A.N, Smitty, Fat Money, all brought in too spit little 4-8 bar hooks. Whar the fuck was the point in that too ?
Dre wasn’t happy with Detox but releases this?
People saying Snoop was spitting yet they quote no barz
I think it highlights how bad he’s been over the last decade plus.
Facts
Missionary album definitely better than skyzoo last effort facts
Many albums dropped this year, but you specifically mentioned Skyzoo. Why? Because he dropped some heat! 🫡
Lupe Fiasco - Samurai
Common/Pete Rock - The Auditorium Vol. 1
Logic - Ultra 85
Freddie Gibbs - You Only Live 1nce (which is my album of the year)
LL Cool J - The Force
Kendrick Lamar - GNX was better than Missionary
J. Cole - Might Delete Later.
It’s easily better then GNX
None of those other albums sound ANYTHING like this album!...and the argument with ghostwriters doesn't matter in this conversatiion in this "hip-hop" area, because no one is calling him the GOAT rapper!...this is about how the albums sounds...not the same convo...
No one is calling him the goat rapper so It’s okay? Man! This is Snoop Dogg not Vanilla Ice! The goal post moving is pure insanity!
I always count on you to give the most educated and unbiased most objective reviews . Even when I have my biases I always wait for your reviews coz you are genuine .
This album was trash . 🗑️
Respect!!🫡
The album is very well engineered and mixed. The wackness sounds brilliantly crafted, but it is wack nonetheless.
The album is far from fire. And Dre comments bout how he hates how albums have multiple producers on them, but he has the ICU making beats 🤔
I have listened to it multiple times and it is not album of the year. First have of the album is not good but it gets better towards the end but still mid. Common and Pete Rock was way better. Nas and Hitboy set the bar super high with their run
Yeah I agree, the album is solid but i see why he hasn't produced much since his glory days. Aoty tho? NAHHHH FAM LOL
Do fat Joe's album
CLOWN TALK 🤡
Skyzoo, PR and Common, and LL for me. Kendrick’s album goes hard too but those aforementioned albums speaks to this NY old head the right way. Love to all tho.
Compton album was better .
Blue Lips is album of the year
I’m starting think that more day by day.
I like how thoro you explain things, cause other people don’t articulate themselves as well. People are just saying it’s wack without explaining. I was confused as to “why, from what perspective”. I totally agree with your perspective. Also I think the “Last dance with Mary Jane” track is 🔥!
This album is a miss for sure. Nas last couple projects was fire 🔥. Unfortunately, this Snoop & Dre sound like senior citizen rap music 😂😂
