Great video, I have a helpful hint for you, when stapling into plywood, turn your staple gun so the head of the staple is running parallel to the grain, this way if the staple flairs out it will go into the grain instead of coming out the side.
Hay buddy I love your life style I don't have nobody in my family to teach me trapping between you and trapping the ozarks I've learned a great deal keep up the awesome videos I live just outside philly pa and been doing my trapping upstate pa on my land and because of your videos I'm starting to catch what I'm setting the traps for. Thanks a lot from use guys that need the help
I recall when Mr. Beaver and family moved back into the Washington DC area (suburbs) in the early 1980s. The yuppies in their BMWs and Porches would come around a sharp bend and hit a 50 pound beaver just destroying their toys. If it was cold enough I'd harvest the pelts.
That little bait cash you make is a wonderful idea i bet there are a lot of trappers out there modifying the box cause of your video. Thanks for the idea. One suggestion use little glue when you staple them together, a good exterior glue helps keep them together long after the staple has rusted away, Another to secure and hinge the top why not the hole wire and the the screw hole and wire to secure with a longer life? just suggestions
Great video sir! I like it as not bulky like the tapered boxes I use now for marten/fisher and half the plywood plus I like the bait "door". Is it 1/2" plywood?
@@Biglandtrapper perfect. Not to thin Bill? My tapered ones I use are really a waste of lumber as too big but still work. I imagine I will have to modify a bit for my Belisle 160's?
@@loneranger8293 yes that’s right just make a little bigger for the 160. 1/4 is good, sides made from lumber just front and back from plywood. I use different size scrap plywood as well but if I buy it I get 1/4.
Cool , i did a similar setup years ago with square boxes bait separated by a screen, i found that they were not as effective as bait hanging, now i used 1/4" square screen, i believe the/your 1/2 " squares would/should work better???
I have had problems with plywood boxes. The squirrels chew them up. Lumber boxes last way longer here. If you open the lid st the end of the season, the birds will get the bait and the bears might spare the box, Interesting to see how other trappers do things. Thanks for the video.
I love working with wood also. I seen some marten boxes made from plastic and wonder how good they are compared to wooden. Nice video thanks again William
I was thinking on making some with wood and plastic before, plastic from old broken tote pans. I say they be good, but hard to get a lot of plastic here. Certainly worth trying..
Hi William love your channel you should publish a cookbook you cook up some great and different foods stuff I have never seen here in Ontario I would buy the book.

Do you fasten to the tree by 1 nail in the center or 2 , do your traps cables fasten to the box or tree ? I like your design very good !
Two nails, one on the top & on on the bottom of the box. Sometimes even give the extra 3rd nail to secure the box well to the tree...
Excellent work William! Great innovation, always modifying and improving your methods. Good luck with these beauties! ATB.
I really like the new style of box, plus you can salvage some of your old ones too! How many marten boxes you figure you have?

Looking good Bill 👍! Just like a knee replacement, old box, new parts 😁
Nice boxes! With your experience it looks like you got it all figured out! Always improving!
May I ask what is it you put in your boxes for bait?

Interesting innovation. This should make baiting easier and cut down on robbing. Good video.
Good luck with those new boxes William.

What size trap
Does this fit? Will a 160 Belisle fit?
I use 120 Belisle but you could easily adjust the dimension so a 160 would fit…

Your the only person I've seen use marten boxes of that style, is there a reason your boxes are that design?
Clever! Go get them little puppies William.
Just made a couple of "Larkham Marten boxes" Gonna hang em' tomorrow. thanks!
Thanks for sharing the new mod. Time to get them furry. Keep the videos comming.
great idea William you will save a lot of bait. the moose looked tasty. take care
Nice looking box
Good information william
great job!
great idea mate
Post some rabbit snaring and grouse videos please
I'll try to get a rabbit snaring video up soon...
Less bait loss and more fur!
bait will last along time in the cold weather also just add a little lure once in a while ... good idea !
