- Dan Jones follows the path of the fire on the worst day of its rampage as it swept through some of London's iconic buildings. Suzannah Lipscomb finds evidence in the archives of who was blamed and who escaped scot free. Rob Bell visits Imperial College London for more information about the spread of the fire and to re-create the intense heat it generated.
Historians Dan Jones and Suzanna Lipscomb team up with engineer Rob Bell to tell the story of the Great Fire of London as it happened in real time. Over 350 years after the fact, 'The Great Fire' explores exactly what went down, hour by hour, street by street as the fire spread and destroyed almost every building within London's city walls. From the spark that set everything off at a bakers near Pudding Lane, to the warehouses by the Thames, to the blazing inferno that engulfed the entire city, the hosts present both old and new evidence to document the tragedy that caused £37 billion worth of property damage.

I just love history
Same
me too! but I'm more of a contemporary history guy like WW2 through the cold war.
The more ancient and further back the history the more fascinating I find it!
Any history that is verifiable is okay by me
I’ve heard of the fire but didn’t know anything about it. Four days!? Horrible. Amazing that we can tell these stories hundreds of years later
Oh wow! Robert Viner was my great- great.... uncle. I knew that he was a banker, goldsmith, and jeweler who made some of the crown jewels. He was also Lord Mayor of London in 1674. I also knew he was a money lender and became bankrupt due to nonpayment of loans, but it never occurred to me that this might have been a result of the Great Fire. OMG I love history! Especially when I can see a direct link to myself. ❤ Thank you, Timeline, for yet another well-done episode.
How would someone that lived in 1674 be your great great uncle is beyond me
If you like commercial interruptions you're going to love this
The biggest lesson here is how awful human behavior can become in a heartbeat. We are not what we tell ourselves.

I failed the time-limit challenge I had set, to remove the Axis FORCE-indulging infiltrators from the Citadel at Quebec city, before the end of 2023 (Canada's oldest defensive ramparts, previously overtaken only by the British General Wolfe).

The French sorted out. Big mistake. Those plains of Abraham were unforgiving that day.

Difference being, I am born here and need to defend from Axis american invasion, that is compromising SERVICES, safety, human dignity and too many lives.
