As long as no one gets injured, I say GOOD! That place is WAY too developed. I used to hang out there in the 70s 80s and 90s. Went back last year and it was a zoo. "Online reservations only" for campgrounds???!!! Give me a break. After this flooding rebuild the place minimally. Make camping first come first served. Keep the roads gravel. And ban those snowmobiles! Give the animals a break.
I actually just left Yellowstone one day before it was shut down, when the day u left it was cold and the rain was very heavy. I was very lucky to be able to escape Yellowstone just in time. I generally hope that people that are trapped there get out soon and safely.
We live just South of the West Yellowstone entrance. Nature is so powerful and cares little for your vacation plans or tourism in general. If your worried about the animals they'll be just fine in fact they'll thrive!! Yellowstone is not a zoo, animals are wild and free to roam in and out of the park at their discretion into Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. They're gonna love this summer!
They animals will love the fact there are few to no tourists hounding them...lol Fools chasing them around with iPhones trying to get a Tiktok video or Instagram selfie while they are trying to eat and raise their young. The rain and water will bring an explosion of green and plant life which will be beautiful and beneficial.
Road through Lamar likely closed for summer '22 Cam Sholly park superintendent just said the road from Gardiner to Cooke City likely won’t be rebuilt this summer. ( this is the road at the north end of the park running east west. ). This likely won’t affect the lower loop of the park and the entrances from Cody, West Yellowstone or Jackson. 80 % of the parks thermal features including old faithful etc are on the lower loop.
Thanks for the update @Park Junkie! Stay safe, and the fact that you work at the park will help clarify a lot of questions people had yesterday about why you were still there. :)
Good morning and thank you for your updates 😊. Our hearts and prayers are with you and all those affected by this flood. Praying that no lives are lost. We Love Yellowstone. So sad to see what is happening. We just discovered your channel yesterday and LOVE it. Subbed and looking forward to your next report. Stay safe.
Thanks for the YPS update. We stayed at Mammoth Hot Springs on 6/11, Gardiner on 6/12 and supposed to stay at the Grant Village on 6/13 but we were stranded in Gardiner MT. We saw the flooding water, washed out roads, and a house. It was unreal. Finally we can leave Gardiner MT today. Our vacation plan has been changed . We are going to Idaho and back to Salt Lake City. Luckily we will catch our flight back to California
So concerning how the weather is shifting and becoming so extreme.. here in AZ it's record heat and no rain for I don't even know how many months. I don't remember the last rainy day.
The lake hotel was my first job in Yellowstone, got promoted to room inspector. Ran into a high school classmate at a square dance at the lake lodge, turned out she was working the soda fountain at fishing bridge. Had adventures with her hiking up to the sulfur hills once, great memories of that season.
I'm in a campground at the Westgate entrance of Glacier National Park but we were there 6 days ago and we spent 8 days at Yellowstone.. so glad we got to experience it but we feel terrible of what's going on. We loved Gardener Montana . We stayed on the campground right on the river where the house went into the water. We also went down the Yellowstone river Rapids with flying Pigs and cannot believe how devastated the town and surrounding areas are. We called Patrick from the flying pigs today and we're glad to hear they're all OK. Praying for the whole situation.
One of the problems with Yellowstone is it's size, which makes each junction/community/stores isolated from one another. I can imagine a half-dozen spots in the park with exactly the same problems you're having. Thanks for the update. It's fascinating to see what the park is going through tight now...
GOOD. Best thing thats ever happened to Yellowstone. No people, trucks, bus's, motorcycles, campers......etc. Its should be an annual thing now. Park closes memorial day. NICE.
