I worked at Mammoth for 2years-1956-1957! Worked as a waitress in the lodge. When I arrived in June-both years-it was snowing! But no catastrophe from the Gardiner River! That’s awful! Used to go drink beer in Gardiner and sing with “Bloody Mary”! Anyone remember her? Pretty good memory for a “great grandma”- don’t you think?

As long as no one gets injured, I say GOOD! That place is WAY too developed. I used to hang out there in the 70s 80s and 90s. Went back last year and it was a zoo. "Online reservations only" for campgrounds???!!! Give me a break. After this flooding rebuild the place minimally. Make camping first come first served. Keep the roads gravel. And ban those snowmobiles! Give the animals a break.

We live just South of the West Yellowstone entrance. Nature is so powerful and cares little for your vacation plans or tourism in general. If your worried about the animals they'll be just fine in fact they'll thrive!! Yellowstone is not a zoo, animals are wild and free to roam in and out of the park at their discretion into Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. They're gonna love this summer!

Road through Lamar likely closed for summer '22
Cam Sholly park superintendent just said the road from Gardiner to Cooke City likely won’t be rebuilt this summer. ( this is the road at the north end of the park running east west. ). This likely won’t affect the lower loop of the park and the entrances from Cody, West Yellowstone or Jackson. 80 % of the parks thermal features including old faithful etc are on the lower loop.

    UPDATE ! ! !
The southern loop of Yellowstone NP opened up today, Wednesday June 22nd, at 8:00 a.m. MST. They hope to have the upper loop open in a couple of weeks. When they do open the upper loop, no driving past Mammoth Hot Springs north, nor driving past Tower Junction going east. I haven't heard about Roosevelt Lodge opening, yet it is the smallest location and usually opens for lodging/food last. If you haven't tried the restaurant there, you ought to do it at least once. Wow, I wouldn’t have thought about snow at this time of year but then again in the Arizona desert where I live this time of year we are pushing above 100F 😎

I would think that rather than take a chance on them having working gas pumps plus running gas out of your truck for potentially no reason (if they don't) that you would call the station down there, or at least try, to find out in advance if you'll be able to get gas.

Un-freakin-belivable! Living in PA, the weather never fluctuates that much. We had thunder storms this morning. If it had done what you were dealing with, people would be thinking second coming. Lol Stay safe, my friend!

In pa. It snowed every month of the year in Early 1800s. Earth has a 200 year cooling cycle that lasts for 5-10 years and we are due for one.
Not good timing for a food shortage though.

Except it gets very cold in January- March 30s to single digits at times, then it rains in March- September. High temperatures have been in PA this month, 90-98 degrees last week .

Furnace was running last night here. Supposedly we are going to get up in the 80s and 90s by Friday. The creeks and rivers are going to be roaring again with those temperatures. There's still a deep snow pack in the mountains. More spring run off to come unfortunately. Be safe everyone if you're in the area. I had to stop a group of guys from California in life jackets from jumping into our town creek. Don't know what they were thinking. Ice cold roaring water. Yikes!

It's horrible. I'm about to melt. I was planning to go to Yellowstone. That's changed. Don't forget that this is just the beginning of summer. It will get worse. People who aren't from Ohio have no idea how hot it can get here.

Lol. Getting up to 97 degrees in Northeast Illinois today. Can also get down to -20. Nothing new, it happens. You just have to live in one place a long time to figure out that the weather sometimes just sucks where you live.
Come back in six months, and you can complain about having to shovel your car out of the snow. You'll appreciate the heat you're getting now! 😁

BUT, IN NO TIME, IT WILL BE HOT AND EVERYTHING TURNS BROWN OVER NIGHT, LAST YEAR IT WAS THE FIRES, THAT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN!! MOTHER NATURE CAN BE CRUEL AND RULES!! I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE FALLS IN YELLOWSTONE RAGING LIKE THEY ARE!! THE HUGE EMPLOYEE HOUSING FELL OFF INTO THE YELLOWSTONE!! WHY THE HELL PEOPLE BUILD ON A MOUNTAIN OR SO CLOSE TO A RIVER, I WILL NEVER KNOW!! THE RIVER ATE UP THE BANK UNDER THIS COMPLEX!! IN THE LITTLE TOWN OF RED LODGE, IT LOOKS LIKE THE PEOPLE BUILT IN THE RIVER, SO SAD!!
