Is nothing sacred?
I'm afraid not 😔
Unfortunately, no
I’m sorry saber, nothing is
I don't think so
Apparently not. It’s disappointing,
I think, throughout the whole NFT craze, the most remarkable thing is that Illumination Entertainment hasn't only avoided doing them, but ACTIVELY MOCKED THEM. The company that literally has profit as its main, public mission statement isn't even trying to make NFTs. That is honestly the wildest thing to me.
wasnt expecting my respect for illumination to go up today
Illumination, the company I thought was the most likely to make things like a fucking minion nft, has actually made a good call for once
Damn, even they have standards…
Could you provide a source before I give them a shred of respect?
It's kind of wild to me that so many people passionately hate Illumination, when they worst thing they do is make average movies.
Heck, even the employees themselves have stated that their workplace is pretty healthy.
Poor Hey Arnold. They would have made fun of NFTs for an entire episode.
That’s sad bro
Sid would be like “It’s totally a good investment!”
That wouldve been a great episode
I can't imagine an entire episode devoted to crapping on one current thing, seems more like...a Family Guy thing idk
@@Wolfiyeethegranddukecerberus17 yeah could've been a B plot but that's all
Funny how I was able to employ an actual artist to paint my late dog in oils for around $360 (and he did a beautiful job by the way. It's incredibly realistic and I'd gladly recommend him) yet NFTs sell bland, uninteresting digitally generated trash for millions.
It truly is dystopian lol. Theyre a slap in the face to a lot of both traditional and digital artists
I’m sorry about your dog. What’s the artist?
We need to find this artist and give them enough money to shut down NFTs
Who's the artist?
Because the art has never been the point, its basically a jpeg stock market. nft bros couldnt give less of a crap about art, they care about buying and then reselling at a higher price and making a profit
Sorry about your pooch, glad you could get some nice art to honor them :)
The big problem with Nickelodeon is that they put too much stock into SpongeBob during CN's 2010s renaissance. While CN was making bank, they held SB on a pedestal for so long because it was their next big hit after Rugrats. The channel expected that success to keep ramping upward, putting any future cartoon on the chopping block if it didn't stand up against SB (which was damn near impossible for a show that barely had a full season yet). They waited too long for lightning to strike twice, while CN was busy setting up multiple lightning rods.
My respect for Nickelodeon decreased more and more. I still like their old shows, but the company itself just sucks now
True.
At least they still sell DVDs of their old shows. Some companies don't even do that.
Like Roblox and UA-cam
@@KeybladeMasterAndy that’s cool
@@KeybladeMasterAndy there are a lot of CN shows that haven't seen any releases past airing on TV. That's one thing Nick has over CN
NFTs are literally at rock bottom and have little value lol. Why would Nickelodeon do this?. I agree with you Saberspark we have to be against NFT.
Nickelodeon shamelessly collaborating with NFTs is something I doubt I’m the only one would know would do such a cruel thing.
It's a near-zero effort method of generating money
Because they want money and people are still dumb enough to buy them
Contracts were probably signed a while back.
What value? An NFT is a freaking JPEG that you can easily screenshot
I noticed out of all the kids networks, Nick is the only one that hasn't really had any hit shows for a long time.
Hit shows: No
Shit shows: Yes

@@BardiXOfficial cartoon network was like the ringleader of the 2010s cartoon renaissance XD they had lots of good ones
@@xxTC-96xx Yeah, but after that, they relied on Gumball, Adventure Time, and Regular Show, most shows after those were either terrible, reboots (same as the latter), or didn't last long
Thank you for mentioning DevianArt lol ! Not only can you commission art from so many other sources at microscopic fractions of what too many of these abysmal NFTs are priced at, but the entire vast community of passionate working artists means you can get that art in so many diverse, unique & personally appealing styles.
It's wild that, not just Nick, but so many of these NFT "art" mills don't see how freaking lazy this nonsense is that literally is just a random character mashup by an AI that craps out so much obviously clashing, ugly & cheap images. But they definitely can't hold all the blame because people have & sadly continue to buy this dreck for thousands or hundreds of thousands & not because they're genuinely appealing as content but simply a token that they want to hoard to go "to the moon" later. Top to bottom, it's all so gross.
I'm with you I'm amazed people haven't realized it ether. It's like selling a dog with green eyes, then change the color to blue, orange, etc. They're all so lazily made.
I'm genuinely upset about the Hello Kitty and Friends NFTs. As a fan of Sanrio, it feels so freaking greedy. They already have an online store that sells at very high prices items as well as having collabs with other clothing brands. Not to mention, they have a successful webseries here on YT. Seeing companies like Nickelodeon and Sanrio doing crap like this just makes me sad. Why do they think that this is worth it? Why are NFTs worth it?
Edit: I have never gotten more than 100 likes, so thank you. Also I want to thank some of you guys for telling me that it's just the western branch and not the main branch of the company.
Don't forget they have Aggretsuko. Dang NFT's ... Just vile
NOOO HELLO KITTY is nothing pure anymore‽
also, i noticed in the video that carebears is going to be coming out with NFTs too...
Same here as a male Sanrio fan (My Sweet Piano and My Melody are my favorites) and longtime admirer of Sanrio. Seeing Nick and especially Sanrio (at least Sanrio's Western branch, hadn't seen any from their Japanese side thankfully) doing NFTs hurts. I still support Sanrio and Nick, but not when it comes to NFTs. Heck, I strongly like their animated films from the 70s and 80s era (Sanrio Animation/Sanrio Film for those curious). I fucking love their Unico Movies and Chirin no Suzu (Ringing Bell).
Shit, Unico was actually a joint-effort between Osamu Tezuka and Sanrio where the Unico franchise strongly raises awareness on taking care of the environment and against pollution. Which is why Sanrio doing NFTs seriously hurts. Reminds me of when Ilumination's Lorax Movie once made a commercial for Cars which was against the original stories' message.
Hopefully both companies might leave the band wagon in the future. Sanrio I love you, but you're better than this!
Still looking forward to future Sanrio Movies by Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema that was announced a few years ago.

On the bright side, this NFT craze is helping us see which corporations are *definitely* corrupt and which -has- *may have* integrity.

It’s all of them. All corporations should be bankrupt.
So EA has integrity now? Because, unless I'm mistaken, they have come out and said they have no plans to make NFTs.

@@KeybladeMasterAndy ironic isn't it, the one company who everyone made memes about making everything pay to win refuses an easy way of earning money
I feel like these companies are essentially trying to do the whole trading card thing again with this crap, but the problem is when you get trading cards THEY'RE TANGIBLE! You can rip open the packs, excitedly flip through what you got to see if it's anything new, you can actually play a game with them, and you know that very few people have access to the card. An NFT is just a digital picture, so once it's out there, anyone can see it. And seeing it is the only benefit the owner gets so why would you pay for it? Why not just do what saber is doing and scroll through the whole collection?
I'm an artist. My brother whose basically the technician math internet guy of the family told me I would never make a profit unless I sold my art as NFTs. I didn't believe him but I still hesitated when he said he could 'hook me up' because I felt pressured. I'm so glad I said no, but the fact he believes that makes me sad.
Remember how Nickelodeon was created to be "the channel for kids" and how all of their projects and merchandise were specifically designed with kids in mind? Good luck finding a single kid who would be able to understand what an NFT is or one who wouldn't immediately say "that's stupid"!
Mmmm I just barely get what they are and I don’t understand why they exist. Getting a art commission is better than this shit
@@gracekim25 and it won’t look like hot garbage like these do!

They straight up don’t care about children anymore, they haven’t since the beginning of the 2010’s
@@gracekim25 It's a speculative investment scam. You buy it to sell it to a greater fool at a higher price. Eventually the price is too high to find a seller and the market collapses. It's so aggressively promoted by crypto bros, because their only goal is to sell it to make good on their investment. The whole deal with crypto seems to be to just securely verify sales of code by unreasonably complex calculations without a legal framework to facillitate such scams.

Remembering how Hey Arnold told us in countless episodes that big companies are bad and all that and here they are ... Depressing really :(
Awww!
It’s so sad because Avatar was undeniably Nickelodeon’s peak, and it honestly seems like over the years they’ve slowly begun to realize that. So now they’ve basically given up.
One good thing about NFTs, it's a great indicator of when a company is losing money.
I love how the only times they acknowledge their old cartoons is when they can make a profit
And they hadn't absolutely destroyed Hey Arnold, it was untouched, it was pure UNTIL NOW!
And I actually wonder how many people looking at those tweets have any idea where Green Slime actually came from?
...That's how it works. They are in the children's media business, and today's children don't remember Hey Arnold.
Well that's how a business works. But this is the worst way to go about it
Just Like Disney! They rarely Acknowledge anything made before 2000 and when they do it’s for Nostalgic Profit.
I remember the announcement for these nfts was like "the 90s called, they want their fans back" and all I could think of was "Last year called, they want their doomed fad back"
Nostalgia baiting is SO 2010s.
I was thinking "The fans called, they want the 90s back".
Yet they're still got ratio-d by everyone on Twitter.
Man, I remember to watching things unfold when Twitter users started making fun of their stupid 'eneftee' announcement, lol.
Do these marketing people not know that's meant as an insult? That's not even a recent one. But then, this is the network that's gone into business with NFTs, so of course they're in league with the dregs of the financial market who couldn't hack it on Wall Street.
nfts have been a thing sincr 2017 but yea its totally a fad just because people started talking about them a year ago lmao
When you think about it, Nick is basically the Konami of animation.
Me in 2020: Could the world get any worse?
Nickelodeon in 2022: Let’s market scams to kids and nostalgic adults!
I didn't see it coming, but it makes too much sense. Nostalgia is the only thing Nickelodeon has left to stay alive
The ad spinning itself around on an old, poorly-CG'd cube of a TV/VCR was S-tier nostalgia button mashing
Oh right
Ah, they pulled a Disney! 😉
NOT EVEN!!!!!
And SpongeBob
Nick making NFTs feels like an symptom of an bigger problem in animation. Simply theres no eagerness to cultivate new IPs and creators. Its either coasting on old IPs and successes or not letting shows grow. They either have to super successful or get canceled. Nick would rather cash in on trends now and make money. Streaming has made it worse because they need content but dont have creators to fill the gap.
In the 90s and 2000 animation seemed so promising. Now it's like realizing that it's always been a nightmare, and only getting worse.
The biggest players own most of the well known stuff, and can easily edge out or buy smaller competitors while not expanding creatively.
Streaming could have been a big opportunity to launch and spotlight new creators and shows. After all, they're not fighting for precious airtime and there's room for users to check out whatever they want- so instead of leaving the channel they can go and find what they're looking for. But in the few years since it seems like that potential is wasted. It seems like all the major streaming services struggle to keep their own content, let alone make good use of the extra bandwidth available to present a larger variety of content.
Well, to be honest, last piece of original IP I had seen (no multiverse, crossovers, rip-offs or reboots) was made by dollar tree
I really agree with this comment & surprisingly I feel like it hasn’t been discussed as much specifically with animation in mind. Companies aren’t just happy with a success anymore, they want the next ultra mega hit smash or it’s not good enough & they drop it. Like explain how genuinely good shows like Owl House or Amphibia, which are applauded both critically & by audiences, get the axe way before their time. I see it reflected in the huge corporations (not animation/networks, but literally any mega corporation) who make record breaking sales numbers, but say “well we didn’t hit our target goal of 100 billion dollars this quarter so we have to lay off a quarter of our workers, sowwy 🥺👉🏼👈🏼” It’s WILD to me.
Copyright extensions on stuff that's supposed to be public domain doesn't help, either.
I feel like Saber has a greater knowledge of how the industry works than most on the internet. You go Saber.
Nickelodeon just basically pulled the cord on what innocence they had left.
The worse part about NFTs is that they can at least be ANYTHING digital, yet they’re always sad little jpegs.
The worst part is that they aren't anything.

Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon are competing with each other for who can be the worse company. CN decided to make that weird "Yeah, girls don't like cartoons" (even though it's clearly an issue about CN not wanting to write shows that appeal to females or anyone above the age of 10 for that matter) + their extreme lack of any content and then Nick's got its NFTs. Jesus, man, it hurts to watch.
Animation has gone downhill, from what you mentioned, Disney Channel canceling any lgbtq show they have, adult cartoons becoming more and more unfunny, and Netflix just being evil, all we have left really are internet animations and anime as the premier sources of animated shows. It’s depressing after the cartoon renaissance Cartoon Network ushered in last decade.
CN what?? wtf have they done
i have not heard of that
shit i need to look it up
It's not even a matter of "writing cartoons that appeal to girls". A lot of Nick and CN's older catalog appeal to me, and I'm a girl. It doesn't matter what someone's gender is. If your show sucks, it sucks. If it's good, it's good.
@@NagitosWifeSpotty they are slowly turning back into “live action network”, just like in 2009.
I still think that Nickelodeon is even more sexist than Cartoon Network yet you don’t see a lot of people hating Nickelodeon for their severity of double standards (re: it’s funny when a girl forces a boy to like her but when a boy does that to a girl, he’s pure evil).
I'm glad all these huge companies are doing NFTs now.
The more NFTs on the market, the less they have value. Hopefully soon they will be worth so little that no one will think these things were ever worth anything.
Not like I'm ever buying any of this.
There's reasons for the "cartoon wave" and he explained every part but the one that's possibly the most important. In the mid-2000's there was a writer's strike so cartoon networks like Nickelodeon and, well, Cartoon Network had to take what they could get.
The reasons why reality TV shows were everywhere and anime got as popular as it is now is because it was cheaper for the west to fund reality TV shows and dub over existing animation instead of paying people to make some themselves. You can see it when you see what was playing on Cartoon Network- really dumb reality TV shows, cheap cartoons (for the most part) and anime. And a lot of that anime they brought over from 4Kids (Pokemon, Yugioh, and unfortunately 4Kid's dub of One Piece) so they didn't have to dub half of it either. (There were more, like Naruto and Zatch Bell.)
I think around this time they also brought over Family Guy and more adult anime over to Adult Swim, which probably both saved them and saved Family Guy and probably gave them the money they needed to hire good animators and writers..
You know this actually isn’t too surprising considering Nickelodeon’s parent company, Paramount Media Networks, had launched NFT’s for another one of their IPs not too long ago, Star Trek. Jessie Gender made a video about the topic and I suggest anyone who has a distain for NFTs or is just curious about what happened to watch her video.
Greetings, fellow viewer of Jessie Gender.
Seconding the recommendation of Jessie's videos! And much like how NFTs are basically counter to the entire ethos behind what Star Trek & the Federation in it would represent, Nick NFTs are the same quality of trash. NFTs seem like the kind of crap that Hey Arnold would rally against in the show, like if they found out some creepy corporation was making cash off their school yearbook photos.
@@drakefire6675 who’s that?
I was today years old when I found out that Paramount owned Nickelodeon.
From what I understand don't NFTs almost completely contradict with the entire message of Star Trek???
It's not until I read the tweet about Mojang never doing NFTs did I really realize just how nuts cyrto bros are. Like these people made it obvious they never even played the game but they still were mad about it. When will this insanity end?
ik what you mean lol
"w-we're going to make our own minecraft, but with NFTs! and hookers!"
why play a good game _for fun_ when you can play a vastly inferior one that feeds into your addiction and ruins your life?
See, the problem is NFTs, like all crypto, are ponzi schemes, and people only get paid as long as new people are putting in money. When companies ban NFTs, it makes people think worse of NFTs in general, and that makes it less likely for new victims to throw money in. If no new people come in, the current people are the ones who lose everything, so they're desperate to silence anyone badmouthing NFTs and crypto. They call it "FUD", because they literally need a special name for people hating their shit.
@@draconis17 That would make sense. A response I saw pop up was the claim that you could take the skins and items into other games which sounds nice on paper but is unrealistic. I think the most bizarre claim I saw it was someone proposing popular UA-camr building NFTs buildings that you can just plop down. Another was items that give you buffs. All things that would probably sound tempting to someone who doesn't know how actually Minecraft works
literally never
When Neopets made it's NFT the crypto bros were calling the players r-slur baby furries, they rarely cares for the content.
And to makes things "better" the official NFT ambassador called people that disliked NFTs worse than COVID and a paid mod from discord doxxed a minor and was super proud of doing that, serious if you want to have a field day with crypto bros just look at jellyneo articles about NFTs is just the most unprofessional but gives you an idea what crypto bros really are
I kinda see that, how CN fosters talent for the next generation, Disney has started but hasn't gotten as far yet, and Nick just can't or won't. The fact that there's a "family tree" of animated shows on the other networks but only isolated islands on Nick speaks volumes.
I really miss when there was that playful rivalry of CN vs Nickelodeon having kids on the playground argue what's better. I understand these are big money companies, but I feel at certain points they just float down the river and forget they're a company forged on the backs of trying new things giving unconventional things a chance. Now it's just sucking the life out of good ole reliable nostalgia to rake in easy insta cash.

I know it’s considered lazy to accuse companies of being “lazy” whenever they put out bad stuff, but I think that loaded term 100% applies to executives who would rather put out auto-generated NFTs than do their job of publishing great shows, giving them appropriate budgets, advertising them, and in general giving us a constant stream of reasons to give them and the network money in the first place.
I mean, look at this-this post-crash wave of NFT announcements from companies can’t even be bothered to make their “drops” look all that different from Bored Apes-it’s the same stereotypically-gangsta and -hipster outfits as Bored Apes, but with their own characters and franchises, and just as ugly to look at. That live-action Fairly Odder show was a higher-effort attempt at milking nostalgia than whatever these NFTs are supposed to be…

Nickelodeon definitely has been trying to capitalize on nostalgia recently which could work if they were smart about it. The trick isn't to marry old trends with new ones, but to bring back what people liked. If Nickelodeon went back to airing blocks of their classic cartoons, they'd definitely get a lot of viewership from nostalgic adults and curious new viewers. I'm not saying that they shouldn't try anything new - they should be experimental, but in the same way they were when they first started which consisted of airing variety shows, pilots, and independent projects and seeing what would stick. This model could make a huge difference for Disney Channel and Cartoon Network as well. A mix of old and new can work and draw in viewers from two different sides, those being nostalgic adults curious to see what's new in cartoon entertainment and new audiences interested in what past generations enjoyed.
I think a really creative approach would be for the rerun blocks to match up with specific days, for instance, you could tune in and see that the episode of Hey Arnold you're watching aired at the exact same time on the same day 15 years ago. Including some well remembered advertisements from back in the day at the beginning and end of each advertising segment could also be an interesting concept.
I understand that this whole comment is pretty off topic, but it's clear that these NFTs are just dripping with Nickelodeon's desperation to recapture the glory days which they could easily do if they didn't force their nostalgic properties into these awkward, ill-fitting modern scenarios and just did things the good old fashioned way.

I think Saber’s “we gotta get on this now” joke sums up all corporate NFTs. Greed probably has a part in it, but I honestly think none of these companies even bothered thinking about how stupid NFTs are.
For any company or any corporate media-based business that are trying new things, take this advice:

Now, Nickelodeon is doing NFTS

the NFT fad isn't going to fully die out. it's a niche thing now, even after the mainstream popularity fizzed out.
that niche is what companies are trying to appeal to

If Helga's dad ever moved on from beepers, he'd probably be the one selling these NFTs.
I like how companies will be really slow when it comes to progressive stuff and treating their employees like actual human beings but when it comes to things that'll make them money they'll jump on it instantly like vultures when the dehydrated guy they've been stalking for the last few hours finally drops its so painfully obvious that they're just doing it for the greed that it hurts to watch a lot which has convinced me that companies aren't behind the times to most trendy things it's just that theyre really all just old balding white dudes that are way too self serving to acknowledge it except if it puts free money in their pockets or starts taking money out of it
I knew Nickelodeon could only bank on 90’s nostalgia but this is getting ridiculous. Absolutely appalling to see happening. Considering how they’ve made toys based off internet memes nothing surprises me anymore
At least the toys were cool and aren't controversial (because they're actually a physical object you can hold).
This is just straight up scummy, disrespectful and awful
@@santiagoherrera1853 Yea that’s absolutely accurate and fair, I just find the meme toys a tad cringy is all. Obviously NFT’s are much worse but it’s still funny to laugh about the fact they made Sponge-Gar toys lol
Honestly, I don’t think that Nickelodeon was ever good with their shows (or other media like movies), not even in the 1990s-2000s. But nowadays, they are even worse, like, way worse than they were then. Because I guess you could at least say that back in the pre-2010s, even though all the cringe they have nowadays like the gross-out comedy (Who’s ready for some slime? No, never again!!!!!!!!!!), sexism (Daniel Miller cheating on Emma Alonso shamelessly with the mean girl Maddie Van Pelt in Every Witch Way), consumerism (re: product placement), racism (re: Schneider’s Bakery m.ua-cam.com/video/Z7BU4LS1mxw/v-deo.html), ageism and etc were present, I guess they could make a great (or at least above-average) product that goes to show that Nickelodeon isn’t incapable of doing good things. They just chose not to which is what makes them all the worse.
As a "90's Kid", I'm getting really tired of being pandered to over and over. We're also the generation currently unable to buy a house, so NFT's are even more scummy as it feels like "buy this digital thing and make your fortune and then you'll be able to afford that house!" I'm so sick of it.
This is exactly why Nickelodeon is better off dead!
4:43 Saber, you don't know how right you are. The only people actually buying NFTs are the rich insiders. Then they pay to put it on the news and say "Hey, this sold for $2 million! You can make that much money if you buy and re-sell it too!" in hopes to find some poor sucker to use his life savings to buy something that is essentially worthless. And then that's when the rug pull happens when they find out the entire scheme and can't find any buyers to sell it to. Also, they can't get a refund because it's "decentralized" aka no insurance to get your money back. So all they are left with is an empty savings account and a cookie-cutter NFT that's barely worth $3
Nostalgia is the only thing making Nick money these days.
Y’know I’d really expect Spongebob to have an episode mocking or parodying the NFT craze, given it’s environmental setting & message. But it seems Nickelodeon has no respect for him outside of “you can make us Money!!”
Honestly I dont think you can make It without It getting dated
Not before the creator passed. He would have struck it down immediately. But after? Maybe it’s coming.
SpongeBob's Last Stand might match the first part of what you are describing. As for the second part, that is unfortunate. Still crazy to know what Hillenburg feared came true.
Why? Spongebob doesn't make intelligent takes. They made their entire living on shrieking literal mental invalids.
Yes, let's sit here and let that make a smart take on anything.
I read the “you can make us money” part in Mr. Krab’s voice
NFT's....How dare they Drag Helga G. Patacki down to this! Shes got enough problems in her life without this!
I grew up watching the golden era of Nickelodeon, back when they had the great shows such as Rugrats, Rocko’s Modern Life, Doug, Hey Arnold, etc… and this same company 3 decades later now has gone the lowest of the low?? Are they that desperate??
Honestly Saber I'm with you on blasting every piece of NFT content. It deserves the criticism and needs to die out sooner rather than later.

Nickelodeon: Lets make a NFT chain and make super big profit!
The internet: **screen caps everything**
These kind of decisions for a company this large require a lot of executive action so take pretty long from the initial pitch till release. Ironically, if they half assed it from a business position, they would of earned more as it would of released before the crash. NFT's actively punish you for doing more than the absolute bare minimum.

That's almost impressive, because it makes it sound like they actually deliberated on whether or not to schill out everything sacred about the childhoods of the people who made them what they are.
if i make a good offline non money making game and somebody makes an NFT about it i will call that person out because i am against NFTS
I don't think I've ever been so insulted in my life. I want to say I cannot believe Nick would do this but you know what? I am more disappointed in myself for even considering them slightly respectable in the first place :/
Saber you have a better voice for a "sales man", that deep tone "investment" almost got me to donate all my savings. Dangerous man.
Man this is sad smh. Nick was so fire back then in the 90s and early 2000s. I miss those days cause cartoons in general were amazing.
As much as my childhood has been developed by Nickelodeon alone, it’s soul crushing to hear, and see that they’re doing NFTs. It’s like they wanna get rid of SpongeBob’s home, and bury it in a pile full of shit, and various other harmful wastes produced by NFTs alone.
I’ll keep screenshooting NFTs until the end of time, and the moment they crash in the stock market to be nothing, but the value of a grain of dirt. I still despise NFTs, and its scams, as well as their marketing practices with stealing other people’s art without consent. (I’m looking at you OpenSea)
Nicks has been the worst childrens network for over a decade now, i too remembered growing up with shows like SpongeBob and Fairly Oddparents, and especially Nick Jr shows like Dora, Backyardigans, and Wonder Pets, it’s genuinely disturbing to see me go from loving this company, to disposing it, I blame Viacom.

5:00 What you want to say is "wash trading", where an item is sold between parties in conspiracy to make the value appear greater. In securities markets, it's super illegal and if you get caught doing it, you're on the hook for the difference in value.
I.E., if you wash traded to get the cost up to $500,000, sell it, and then the "dupe" at the end buys it and the price tanks to $1,000, you're on the hook for the difference in those values.
As a digital artist, someone tried to get me into the NFT market. I instantly but kindly declined.
You *kindly declined?*

Would love to hear an analysis from you about the different generations of cartoons (ie how 90s cartoons differed from the 2000s and New 10s, etc.) tho 💜
Also, whoever made the subtitles for that vid at 9:30 clearly had no idea what the *main purpose* for subtitles are...
It's the type of ultra fast paced subtitles used commonly in TikTok used to brainwash us and lower our attention spans. It's all part of the Chinese plot to take over the world, trust me on this.

@@andreafraustoz yeah they were shit.
4:56 - the thing you’re describing is wash trading or “painting the tape” - when you sell a security to yourself (or someone you know) at a high price to give the impression of high value, so you can sell it to an outsider for more money.
If that sounds illegal, that’s because it is. If you did that in Wall Street you’d have the FEC all over you. But NFT companies just do it all the time because the market is so badly regulated.
*UNregulated, I think is more accurate. To my understanding that's part of the appeal? I could be wrong but I think a not insignificant portion of the NFT/crypto community is of the libertarian "HOW DARE THE GOVERNMENT NOT ALLOW SCAMS I THOUGHT THIS WAS A FREE COUNTRY" mindset. Like, sorry dude but yeah most people are generally in favor of protecting less knowledgeable people from being preyed upon by dishonest market players.
Would I prefer the government not need to be involved? Absolutely! But not at the expense of innocent people's livelihoods. But tbh I think the loudest NFT/cryptobros know exactly what they're doing, and they're exactly the kinds of people who I think make government oversight necessary. Just because they aren't as clearly fraudulent as Madoff doesn't mean they aren't still fraudsters in their own right.
For the record, I'm not a US government stan. I just think that the government getting involved is a lesser evil than scam artists preying on people who don't know what they're getting into. I'd love for departments like OSHA, the FTC, the FCC, the SEC, etc to not be necessary but we don't live in that utopia.
@@SparkleFoxMutt indeed. NFT markets are doing a great job of showing us exactly what happens when these bodies don’t exist. People with more knowledge exploit the situation and defraud others.
And what’s happened to the NFT markets is basically what happened to the stock markets in 1930. Once enough scams happen, investors flood out of the market and then *nobody* can raise investment money, and everyone loses. It’s a marketplace that allows parasites to grow to the detriment of everyone else.
Not me getting hypnotized by that 9 second loop of Nickelodeon squiggles:

Considering how low Nickelodeon has gone, I still find myself surprised that they somehow keep managing to go lower. I just want to know how far they can go before they actually crash and burn with no chance of coming back. At least then they wouldn't be able to keep pulling BS like this and constantly hoping that nostalgia will bring in more bucks rather than trying to do new things at this point.
