However there were some very interesting ones that I havent heard of that you guys have mentioned. Thanks so much for the help and the support. I agree. That’s probably why they’re milking spongebob now. With that new movie that came out this past year I believe and there was another one that came out a year or two before that. And now apparently there’s a spin-off for Patrick being made.

@Raye Wonderland Thankfully, it got better after the second movie thanks to Stephen Hillenburg returning. What I hate about Nickelodeon is that shortly after Stephen's death, Nickelodeon announced they were going to make Spongebob spinoffs, even though Stephen Hillenburg never wanted any spinoffs of the show. Even Paul Tibbit called out Nickelodeon for their actions, and he was in charge of the dark age seasons (Seasons 6 - 9A) of Spongebob.

The sad part is Nickelodeon offered Jennette McCurdy $300,000 to stay quiet about her interactions with Dan Schneider. She refused and talks about it in her book “I’m glad my mom died”. There’s another murder case that‘s connect to a Nickelodeon cartoon. Randy Stair (Andrew Blaze). Basically this guy had an extremely unhealthy obsession with Ember Mclain, one of the antagonists from Danny Phantom. He was so obsessed with her, to the point where he thought she was a real person, and he saw her as this “Goddess”, believing that she understands him or something. He created a bunch of OCs for a cartoon he made called Ember’s Ghost Squad (basically just recolors of Ember but in different clothes, different hair color, etc..), the stuff he made for the cartoon were pretty messed up and dark, just full on edgy. He believed that he was part of this squad, where once you die, you turn into a ghost girl. He later shot up the supermarket he worked at, killing 3 of his co workers before turning the gun on himself.
The fact that Ember’s ability to control people with music makes this case even more disturbing, considering that Randy listened to her song for hours nonstop.

The sad part is that Nickelodeon, in its years leading up to their golden age was all about producing innovative and experimental programming and gave kids a space to be messy and subversive. They were "cool, alternative" counterpart to Disney. The problem is that they became a victim of their own success, milking what they believed was working and became afraid to take chances. The aforementioned person could become a creeper when they're manic but that's not an inherent symptom of bipolar and sounds more like a predisposition they would have regardless of bipolar. The bipolar might have made it worse when manic, due to impulse control being limited or mitigated. Even in the 90’s and early 2000’s a lot of the body horror in Ren & Stimpy was considered extreme. I couldn’t watch that show because of that one scene where Ren either looses or deliberately pulls out all of his teeth. I don’t like body horror.
I remember thinking “what kinda person makes a show for kids where the two main characters are constantly hurting each other/getting injuries like this?”
Later I saw how realistically Ren’s abuse of Stimpy was depicted in “Adult Party Cartoon” (an adult version of the show where the characters are implied to be lovers) and I *understood*.
Ren *IS* John K and he’s an abusive piece of shit.
(The scene where Ren gets mad and starts beating Stimpy as he cries and begs for him to stop while the camera slowly panes away from their house is something I can never unhear. And Ren insisting to the therapist that he still loves Stimpy even if he beats him, when, in a previous scene, he basically said that ever since he was a child the only thing that has ever brought him joy was *torturing* everyone and everything that he felt was too weak to fight back. There. Are. No. Words. )

The commonly accepted theme is that a magical depression fairy sprinkles your brain with a chemical imbalance dust, causing depression, which is a clear case of a "chicken or the egg" issue. I had bouts with depression, changing the cause in my own life that dragged me down, would fix it. Almost everyone I've met with actual cases of real depression, were always people who I could see snippets of that exact issue with. Or otherwise, people are just oppressed or treated like crap by other people perpetually, can cause that as well. I'm a firm believer in not needing antidepressants, especially considering almost every mass shooter has been on them, enough to see a clear pattern with.

Not everyone needs anti-depressants for the rest of their life. It depends heavily on whether you have clinical depression or if your depression is more situational/transient. That being said, you should definitely consult with your therapist, before stopping any medication of that type. Many of them have a weaning off protocol, to avoid the side effects of withdrawal.

To add to the Angry Beavers thing, Nickelodeon used to have a policy that prohibited any form of fourth wall breaks in their cartoons for the first few years of their channel.
They eventually decided to replace the policy in favor of a less restrictive one where, now, none of the characters in a Nickelodeon show are allowed to allude to or acknowledge that their show is ending.
Some infer this policy was established so that the show didn’t directly tell the kids that the show ended and that they kept watching in hope of new episodes being released someday.
This policy resulted in the Angry Beavers finale, Bye Bye Beavers, being cancelled due to the main joke being the main characters poking fun at the fact that their show is coming to a close and them completely destroying the fourth wall.

also! it's incredibly amazing looking back on hey! arnold and seeing how well the creators tackled so many hard hitting topics. found family vs blood family, bullying, interracial relationships (romantic and platonic), beauty standards, abandonment issues, etc. hey! arnold and shows like it (as told by ginger, braceface, etc) really handled "adult" topics in a way that made it easy for a child to digest.

TL;DR - Psychopaths just aren't wired like the rest of us.
To be fair, it sounds like this kid has several of the hallmarks of psychopathy: Callousness. Lack of empathy and remorse. Sensation-seeking. Impulsiveness. Refusal to accept responsibly for their actions.
By no means does it make what he did 'okay' but I understand why the defense tried to scapegoat using "the cartoons made me do it" defense. Especially as a minor, they were hoping this defense would help the kid come across as just a 'normal' and impressionable kid. Given the brutality of the crime, that's clearly not the case.
Having had multi-year friendships with two adult psychopaths (both with ego-syntonic sadism) evisceration is an experience that they'd both find exhilarating. One grew up slaughtering sheep on his family farm. The other has talked about how envious he is of the real world 'experience' that the other friend gained from his rural upbringing.
They both currently enjoy living life in the 'free world' so unlike the child who committed the murder/evisceration, these friends have found non-criminal ways to meet their psychopathic needs. At least in their case, there's a sadistic enjoyment and voyeuristic curiosity with the suffering of others. One, more so, than the other. But in private, they both have it. It's been a long-standing pattern with both of them.
The one psychopath I've known the longest, for almost two decades, even became a licensed mental health professional. Initially, he worked with violent youth offenders because he preferred the excitement and danger of working with that population. Unfortunately, as he's gotten older and has worked in private practice thus refining his mental and emotional manipulation skills, he now specializes in Complex PTSD and survivors of trauma. This unfortunately allows him to hear all the juicy 'sensational' and 'unique' trauma details from his clients, witness their suffering up close, but with these clients he has the added benefit of exploiting the transference/admiration that comes from the therapist/client relationship. It was only within the last year that I learned about psychopathy and realized the patterns that had been hiding in plain sight all this time.
Having myself been a therapy client of his, on and off, for almost 15 years, I know the mental and emotional damage his lack of empathy does to vulnerable clients in the therapeutic setting. I blamed myself for years for the callous way he treated me in our sessions. Thankfully, I don't have a history of sexual abuse/trauma. I do however have what I now realize is undiagnosed ASD, which has had _significant_ impacts on my life, socially, professionally, and interpersonally over the last two decades. These chronic 'failures' have lead to severely low self-esteem which he was able to leverage in therapy. From 'love bombing' praise/encouragement, to harsh 'tough love' critism, to neglect and indifference. Every client he treats is vulnerable to this kind of emotional manipulation because of the nature of the therapeutic relationship.
The only positive thing to come from two decades of loyalty to a psychopathic therapist is that I know his playbook. I know what 'defenses' to anticipate when coming forward with evidence of his current misconduct. And thanks to my untreated ASD, I have accumulated an ungodly amount of digital documentation that I never bothered to get rid of.
I don't believe either of my 'friends' chose to be psychopaths. There's evidence that certain psychopathic traits have a genetic component. However, just like with my ASD, it's THEIR responsibility to seek treatment and hold themselves accountable for their behavior. Because failing to do so has real world consequences.
For me, that's the worst part. Psychopaths are incapable of _fully comprehending_ the harm they've done to their victims. Even when they are incarcerated, they lack the empathy to genuinely feel guilt or remorse for the damage they've done. This isn't just an assumption. My psychopathic therapist was the driver in a fatal DUI when he was a high school student. A woman lost her life. He's told myself and several others the details of the accident. He's told me, himself, that he never lost sleep over it. Not even as a kid.
Sorry for the long message. 💕

Nick at Nite was simply a vehicle for Nickelodeon to be able to fill their overnight airtime with things from their syndication catalog. Once their catalog of original IPs was large enough, they spun Nick at Nite into its own cable channel, much like Cartoon Network did with Boomerang.

I had a feeling there were a lot more going on behind the scenes, not just with Nickelodeon, bur with a lot of major corporations. While I still enjoy creepy/dark cartoons, part of me wondered exactly what goes on in the minds of those who make such cartoons, a big part of me in my youth though that they were doing it just to stand out or break the mold as it were. The older I got, the more I realized, that their are just some psychotic people that exist in this world.
The Rugrats storyboard caught me by surprise I will admit, Kind of seem like a tier 5 to me, but dam that's messed up. The worst part to me with these, is the fact that most if not all that are guilty, gets away with a "slap on the wrist" and a warning not to continue to be the worst people that have ever existed.

Some people just think it's fun to go dark and creepy. Doesn't always mean they're depraved. The absurdity of putting something that twisted into the scenario is funny because it would never happen.
