DO you cohab animals? What species!?
I'm thinking of getting axolotls and I might get two but I don't know how I feel about it
I might get 2 leopard geckos but I want to do more research before I get them
Help me out here, I plan on doing my 2 gold dust day geckos with my 3 painted mantellas in a 12x12x18 that’s Bioactive with live plants. I figured they would inhabit different parts of the tank and have very similar requirements. Does anyone think they’ll be ok?
I keep candoia carinata carinata together 💪🏽 “dwarf indo tree boas”
Can you keep anoles with crested geckos
"we're not gonna talk about axolotls because they are amphibians and this is a reptile video" he says after talking about frogs.
I think he means amphibians that are not housed with reptiles.I just thought it was silly, because I swear he always talks about amphibians in each video. I don't fault him, he should just go with it :)
Hehe
Reptiles 🦎 and amphibians can’t cohabit together
Yeah. This guy has no idea what hes talking about.
no, he was saying morning geckos can even live with frogs, he never mentioned frogs as itself.
I adore garter snakes, and they're very misunderstood little noodles. So I'm glad they're at the top of the list!
They are!
Agreed!!
Absolutely! I love them! If I ever got snakes I would 💯 get them :)
Are they good for handling? I love handling my ball python but colubrids seem totally different.
@@Dehalove From what I've seen of mine, they can be rather quick and squirmy if they're not use to it. So definitely hold with two hands and prepare to do the treadmill with them. Mine's still young so I can't confirm personally, but from my understanding they can get use to it and be pretty handable as adults.
Snake Discovery has a group of female garters they keep together. Sometimes they have babies so you can see videos of the different ages in action.
I've always had pet snakes, my favorite snake/the coolest snake I ever owned was a garter snake my dogs almost killed and I nursed back to health. When I lived in Ohio my sister's dogs got ahold of a garter snake and about killed it while I was at school. When I came home my brother in-law told me about it, so I went out and found it to make sure it was alright. Over the next 3 or so months I nursed it back to health, I'm honestly surprised it didn't die during that time. It was so chill and friendly that I would put it in my jackets open breast pocket while I would walk around with my friends, I would even take it to school in that pocket occasionally, it loved going out. It would just hang out and occasionally pop its head out of the pocket to look around. Once it was mostly healed I made the coolest tank ever for it, I used a lot of tree bark, I even made it a burrow in the ground out of bark, that was squirmys favorite spot. I also found a huge bowl shaped rock and used it as a water dish, I always kept a ton of live fish in it, squirmy would sit on the edge of the water and strike at the fish like a cobra. That snake acted like a dog, when I would take it to the park with my friends I would sit it down, it would explore but would always stay close and would come back to me if I left it alone for too long, it acted like it didn't want me to leave it behind. By time he was healed winter rolled around so I couldn't release it and by time spring rolled around it wouldn't survive on its own in the wild anymore. I miss that snake and think about it everyday to this day... To anyone who read my long ass comment, sorry for the novel and thank you for reading it.
I read it. I loved this story. You saved that snake from death and gave him a good life that it otherwise never would have had
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This made me want to get a garter snake 🥺
@@christheghostwriter I'm glad you appreciate the story of Squirmy
@@cheyennekimble7915 they are pretty awesome, I don't know if others act like Squirmy did though. I really think it actually bonded with me when I nursed it back to health even though most people say it's impossible for snakes to bond like that. I've never seen another snake (or any other reptile in general, including turtles/tortoises) act so much like a dog.
The problem with cohabbing leopard geckos is that they can live together just fine for years and then one takes a chunk out of the other. Had this happen twice.
Exactly. Leopard geckos should not be kept together. Doesn’t matter if they’re both female.
"Cohabbing leos is perfectly safe, but not two males, and not a male and female, and sometimes also not two females."
Soooo, basically, don't bother cohabbing them at all 😂 stupid to have them on the list ngl
@@rachelmurtagh8659 got me in the first half, not gonna lie.
Thought you were gonna say only 2 females will work
K e y b o a r d w a r r i o r s
@@antioof9398 the definition of keyboard warriors are abusive or aggressive comments, these aren't. Cohabbing shouldn't be encouraged, he could have left it off the list. It doesn't mean anyone disrespects or abused him for saying it. We can have an educated disagreement
I think the coolest cohab I've ever seen is The Biodude, he has an enclosure with corn snakes, American green treefrogs, and green anoles.
I'll have to look at that, sounds so cool!
I have one as well! The Green Anoles I have are one male and one female and then I have 3 Green Tree Frogs! The tank is beautiful! My Bahamian anole is my Long Tailed Lizard. Honestly out of my 22 Reptiles/Frogs, they’re the funnest to watch. $5 Lizards are funner to watch than my $400 lizards lol 🙂
Link?
But how do things not get eaten
I can't remember where I saw this on youtube but it was a cohab paludarium with a turtle and I think it was an arboreal snake.
10:17
indeed indeed
Yup if you go to his video about calcium sand he eats a spoonful
ikr i had to replay that XD
@@chilipot3586 I almost threw up when I watched it
Thats what I was thinking
I got a leopard gecko because of your videos
that's so awesome!!!
Same!!
I’m about to 😂
I've got 10 or so garter snakes living in a woodpile in my back yard. I think it's really cool to come outside and spot them basking out on one of the logs.
One of my favourite examples of cohabiting was on a serpadesign video where he designed a Chinese water dragon tank that had turtles aswell. that combination fascinated me. Another great video man!
Interesting! I love Serpa!
I'm so happy you had garters as #1! They are awesome and one of my favourites😍! I've got 9 garters from 3 species that I co-hab (each species in their own enclosure, of course). They're so active, so much fun to feed and interact with.... although the valley garters are a a bit of a handful and like to helicopter their tail when they musk. It gets everywhere.
that's awesome! I love Garters
In Florida, the green anoles aren’t pests or anything because they’re actually pretty hard to find, as the Cuban brown anoles are out competing them.
some parts, others they are freaking everywhere
Near Pensacola theyre everywhere
When I went to Disney world they were everywhere, which was fine by me because I love them
they aren't necessarily outcompeted, they just climb higher and the males never come down. I see a female every once in a while.
That’s what’s happening where I live in south Texas. Not that long ago green anoles were everywhere, but now you almost never see them, it’s all brown anoles.
And we don’t have green anoles up high in the trees because in my area we don’t have tall trees. It’s basically a scrub desert and the major tree is mesquites. Mesquites don’t get very tall and they grow almost parallel to the ground. I’ve seen the brown anoles climb pretty high up the mesquite trees to find food or to get away from predators.
I like brown anoles too, they’re pretty cool, but I wish we could have them without losing green anoles. I miss my green color-changing buddies.
Yes!!! I love that you put mourning geckos in here! I will have a video on them tomorrow because I’m getting my first pair! I love garter snakes too! I caught one while fishing yesterday!
that's awesome!
awesome video! I'm on a Wickens Wicked Reptiles binge. we have 'cohabitated' our iguana for the past 12 years we've had him. he is currently 4.5 feet from snout to tail. he will free roam indoors with 2 cats. sometimes they lay together and the cats will groom him. in the spring/summer he will go outdoors in a cage with ducks/ducklings. never had issues him. he even has snuggled in bed with the humans! I think a lot has to do with the animal itself and how they are raised/treated, not just the species.
That is awesome!
Garters were my gateway into reptiles as a whole. I recently found out I can legally keep and breed checkered garter snakes in my state without a license or permit. My first ever genuine pet snake was an albino checkered garter snake and honestly they are my favorite species of all of the garters. I am quite excited to get back into them.
Same, my mom encouraged me to go out and find snakes, salamanders, spiders... I'm 41 now, and she's said several times, lovingly, in the past few years that she "regrets" having me do that because I have a zoo now.
Love this! Its morning here and its always so nice to start the day with your videos, so positive and smiley!
Morning! thanks for watching :)
So happy you mentioned garters! I have a 'bonded' pair of male eastern garters. Definitely with some attention to detail and care to make sure they get along, they are wonderful pets. Mine are very interactive and curious. There are many studies done that highlight their strange social behaviours, super interesting to learn about. I love my two boys, they're very different in personality, but I think they're super fun to learn about.
I came here to say that you’re one of the only UA-camrs who’s content is relevant years later. I watch your videos when they first come out and then come back years later to rewatch when I am actually ready to do some research on the next reptile I want! Not a lot of UA-camrs content holds it’s value like yours does! I appreciate you and your content, old and new 😊
I love this channel! Beautiful animals and great info! 😁👍
Thank you very much!
I've somehow just found your page. I follow a LOT of her-people on UA-cam, some that I really like, some just to see the animals. I've sat and binged 6 videos at work. Great stuff, man!
Wow, thank you!
Narcisse! Went there when I was a kid, from what I understand is it’s the largest gathering of reptiles on the planet!
this is true
I can't wait to start up my garter snake sorority tank, I'm super excited about it as a living/family room tank with how they love to bask and just vibe with each other.
In my high school’s courtyard there’s a pond with some carp/goldfish/koi and this one turtle. Always a treat to catch a glimpse of him.
Yes, I've been wanting this video, thank you for making it, it was very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
Please do all full vid. I’m new to the channel and this info is awesome 😎
Your b-roll intro is always beautiful! Only UA-cam intro I don't skip ❤
oh thank you!
Some great information, dude!👍 Hope to see more in the future!
Thanks! Will do!
Hey brother. Just saw this video randomly as I was looking for leopard gecko tips. You got a sub and I appreciate your vids. Keep it up!!
Your videos and production is great, you’ll be at a million subs in no time 🙏🏾
I appreciate that! thanks for the kind words!
So glad I found your channel! Love your quality and energy. Years ago when asking about uromastyx care I had a local pet shop worker say he successfully kept his uro with a tortoise. No idea if its possible, seems like a bad idea, but he spoke in lengths about it. Would love to hear your thoughts!
I do have an accidental case of cohabitation that has been working really well for almost a year. I had a big tank 120x120x60cm with my crocodile skink. He turned out to be an absolute master of disguise and I managed to not see him for almost half a year after which I was positive that it must have escaped somehow, so after mourning the loss I decided to get green anoles in the enclosure. And a few months later I suddenly see the skink walking around in the terrarium. By this time they had been together for some time already. Initially I wanted to separate the species but after some time I found they actually go quite well together. Anoles are day active, arboreal and hide out on the plant leaves at night while the skink is active at dusk and dawn, terrestrial and to heavy to climb on the leaves. This combined with the size and lush bioactive setup means they can easily avoid each other if they want.
I've been looking forward to this
:)
Yep, garter snakes were the first snake I ever touched. I have no idea what species, but an elementary school teacher caught one and let some of the kids touch it before releasing it again. It was so cool!
I would love to have them someday, but I’m not at an experienced level where I would feel comfortable in my ability to care for them properly yet.
10:20
I see after a three month quarantine you still got your roasts!
Edit: Well actually your Wickens wicked roast videos may have helped that…
hahaha!
I had 3 green anoles and they loved being handled! Gosh. I miss them 😔 I had them for such a long time. They lived for quite some time and were so fun.
Awesome video!
I live along the north Eastern border of Canada and us, I am us side. I live in Vermont. My first snake was a ring neck. Lol I kept it in a shoe box. After 2 days my brother made bring it back to where I got from! He was a boy scout so that was his drive behind me setting it free and explained how I need to respect wild life. I was 8 and my brother was 12.
I have a yard full of green anoles here in Dallas,Tx…I love watching them play and chase each other!
that's so great!
Our green anoles are being outcompeted here in Georgia by invasive lizards; it's really sad. Enjoy your anoles; we used to have oodles of them at my house and now they're a rare sight.
Garterrrs. I'll probably never own snakes but if I could I'd love to have a couple of them ;; they're so fun!
they really are
Great topic! 👌 Thanks for sharing the knowledge on cohabiting! 👍
Our pleasure!
Love this. Definitely do more
thanks man!
Garter snakes are one of my dream pets for this reason, although sadly theyre kind of hard to find captive bred cause theyre so common in the wild
so true
Get on that Snake Discovery wait list! Or BHB does them too I think.
The Hitomiboy I personally wouldn’t order from BHB, as some of Brians animals look like they are in pretty bad shape, but if people do their research and it seems like he is better than I give him credit for, then definitely get captive bred garters from him or Emily.
I would suggest join a garter snake group on Facebook and keep an eye on morphmarket, I wouldn't rush into it if you want an nice garter snake ive seen some people get ribbon snakes thinking they're garters nothing wrong with ribbons but just be aware
Gaining popularity. Lot more breeders in Europe and USA then Canada, but now with reptile express, It's so much easier to get CB Garters
I’ve been looking for something to house with my dart frogs glad I found this video!
Glad I could help!
You're the best Adam.
nahhh you are the best man!
Really cool videos! You can also see am improvement in quality between your newer videos and older ones. A lot of people watch these types of videos for the visual aspect - they (or at least I) are more interested in seeing the animal that you are talking about. You've done a better job incorporating these images and clips into your videos. Before it was a little too much footage of you recording yourself, with images that only showed up on screen for a few seconds. I really enjoy your channel. Voice-overs that cover facts and information as b-roll footage of the subject is actually playing is really enjoyable to watch.... just a suggestion :) Keep up the amazing work
well thank you, the new style takes about four times as long to make but, worth it
I used to keep 5 female leopard geckos together. They ate a ton but being well fed kept them gentle together.
awesome
Just found your channel, awesome video. I have 3 green anoles with a small rough earth snake. Get along perfect.
Awesome! Thank you! that sounds wicked
Yes please! Another more extensive video would be awesome!!!!
Brave of you to tackle this subject but it was a terrific and well balanced video. Really enjoyed it and look forward to one on Mourning Geckos. 🙂
thanks :)
Great video man! I actually keep my green anoles with green tree frogs and house geckos
That is awesome!
I have 3 leapard geckos together in one tank. They been together for about a year and a half.took the male out at one time and all 3 stayed in there hides and were not eating. So put the male back in,and all 3 are doing great.
I absolutely love your videos
thank you!
22k subs!! Congrats!! Idk if you remember but I’ve been here since 600 subs!!!
Legend! I remember you man!
I would love a morning gecko care guide.
Another great species for this countdown would be green tree skinks. We’ve got four all together and they’re great. They even cuddle together lol
that is so cool!
I agree one what you said when it comes to leos man. I said pretty much the same thing in my cohabing video. Great stuff
Thanks 👍
I got two leopard geckos a few weeks ago. I’m cohabitating them in a very large 40 gallon enclosure. One is a little bit bigger than the other but the little one seems to be more dominant. I have done my research and I’m pretty confident that they’re doing well. They came from the same home and had been cohabited together before with success. But that was only temporarily when one of their enclosures broke.
There’s a small population of albino garter snakes in the area where I live. They’re kind of hard to find but they live in a specific part of a park.
Hey man I just found your channel and it's awesome. Gonna dive in more today
Welcome aboard! thanks for watching!
Yes please do a community tank video💜
Garter snakes were my first. Back in th early 2000s. And i just got one again yesterday the first one have had since 2005. They are my favorite
that's so cool!
@@WickensWickedReptiles yep he was the only one at the convention i went to. I went for him as soon as i saw him.
Awesome you answered my question, I have a baby green anole and was so if I could add another lizard of another species. I was thinking long tail as it's what I have available near me. Once he gets bigger I'll think about getting him a friend
could work!
@@WickensWickedReptiles awesome, what size tank would byiu recommend? Think a 29 gal would work?
I'm from Louisiana and my first pets were anoles I found while I was out playing. I ended up with a ton and actually they get used to people to an extent and let you hold em a bit, but they're not the kind of lizard who's gunna enjoy being handled alot.
Yes a video of which species can go with other species
This is one of the best reptile channels I saw on UA-cam and I don’t have a reptile but I am interested in them. Can you do a video on top 5-10 most harmful diseases reptiles can get?
I could, if you're kinda new to reptiles you'll love the next video, come back on Thursday!
Ok, I am subscribed so I will be there
I watch a number of animal/pet channels like yours on a regular bases and i gotta say i appreciate what you do....you actually have a personality that isn't extremely dorky and you're rather funny and relatable to someone who isn't a complete recluse that spends all of they're free time/life with they're pets. You also don't shy in the slightest when you don't know shit about something. You keep it real and honest so thank you.
this is one of the best comment's I've ever gotten, thank you!
I doubt most of these recluses are putting a persona tbh. Not saying that youre bad for preferring wickens, just saying as someone who HATES people, it’s usually not an act.
You can also take tortoises/turtles which are aggressive towards their own species (except for breeding season) such as leaf turtles (Geoemyda sp.) as omnivorous "bottom feeders" in two arboreal lizard enclosures. Just add some extra floor space & voilà! Solitary turtle breeding pair as subtenants for peaceful arboreal lizards from similar climate zones (e.g. crested geckos, Madagascar swifts, spiny-tailed iguanas, etc.)!
Mourning geckos are AMAZING! I have 8. I'd love a whole video about them.
Garter Snakes are always underappreciated. Nice to see someone who points out a great species not well known to be as great as they truly are.
Well said!
the roast to goherping
love his channel but c'mon, how could I not
@@WickensWickedReptiles okay good! I can’t follow if you guys have beef
I didn't know you could cohabitate Dart frogs and Mourning geckos. It makes sense now that I think about it but it was very interesting.
cool right?
A cohabitation idea I recently started puzzling out is a large table of three Indian star tortoises with some kind of a mesh top and sides. On one side of the table I'd create a "mountain" of rocks with a bunch of nooks and crannies, and keep a couple of leopard geckos in it. You have nocturnal vs diurnal activity, an insectivore vs a herbivore, and the geckos will likely stay more in the rocky sections while the tortoises will make more use of the open areas of the table.
I haven't finished working out the details yet, but I feel like it would probably work, and I'm confident enough that I'm going to try it out after some more planning and some enclosure design.
😲 going to search for the multi species Cohan video in hopes it’s been made! 💕
My grandparents kept a turtle with goldfish and some plecos.
Until one day they woke up to find they had 1.5 plecos.
wowza
I cohabit my corn snakes. Been together successfully for over 6 years. Have to feed them out of the viv.
I used to catch Anoles and wear them as living earrings when I was a child. South East Texas is full of them.
amazing!
You should totally make a mourning care Guide
I once was sold an anole turns out it was really a morning gecko. I kept telling the store it wasn't an anole. "Sometimes they just come in super pretty like that!" Is what they told me 🤣
hahahhaa
I just got Mourning Geckos! I'm debating whether to cohab them with dart frogs, but right now one is gravid, so I might wait until I see how that goes before I decide.
And I grew up with Garter Snakes, just in my yard and such, and kept one as a pet when I was younger, but I didn't know they could be cohabbed! I think I'll get a couple next time I'm looking to get some.
I’m having great success cohabiting my pair of Gonatodes albogularis fuscas with my trio of Phyllobates terribilis in a bioactive 50 gallon tank. Both species are breeding for me and are going great.
Please do a mourning gecko care guide
ok!!
Be careful with anoles and long tailed lizards. The anoles may try to eat them. When I worked at a pet shop we were pulling longtails out of anoles mouths nearly daily. Keeping the 2 together wasn't my idea
I subscribed. Great content. Terrible vocabulary 😂😂😂 much love!
Although they aren't a reptile, I would suggest getting a few snails online and keeping them in an appropriate tank. The best pet ones(in the U.S) are Bulimulus Sporadicus, Helix Aspera, Otala Laceta, and Helix Pomatia.
"honey i'm gonna be late for dinner" HAHAHA
hahaha
PLEASE DO A VIDEO ON AMERICAN TOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAADSSSS. Please ❤️
to add even more space for ur turtles I would recommend filling the tank all the way up and putting an above the tank basking area on too of the tank for them to have even more swimming room
we actually just did that a few weeks back! :)
From my experience with turtles and tortoises, most prefer to be communal. I've been keeping turtles since I was 15, (I'm fifty now☹️). Especially four toed box turtles.
GREAT WORK, MY FAMILY AND I LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEW VIDEOS.
Hey, lay off my Monsters 😆
I personally do not agree with cohabiting solitary species such as leopard geckos, crested geckos, and many tortoises/turtles. I just don’t think it is worth it in the long run, and they are solitary for a reason. I also believe in giving reptiles more than the minimum standards. My female leopard gecko Meara has a 40 gallon enclosure that is bioactive with an Arcadia shadedweller uvb and deep heat projector.
there are strong opinions either way for sure
haha, Go herping eating sad
hahaha yup
hi Adam, i just recently "found" your channel and it is awsome!
your info really helped me become more interested in the hobby.
I have a question regarding Geko`s.
would it be possible to cohab diferent species of similar size geckos ?
I have a pair of leopard geckos that cohab together from the same clutch and they absolutely love each other. Ones blind and they share hides and sleep on each other its adorable.
mine also seem to enjoy the company, if they actually do, who knows but seems like it
We have a cohab enclosure with a Rough green sanke, Long tailed grass lizard, and a tree frog With a large water area that has large snails in for help with filtration. All are sub adult and never had any problems.
I always thought it was Morning geckos - nou i learn its MOURNING geckos. Thats sad, my puns are bad but this video is good. I'm thinking of cohabitating my Leopard Tortoise with my green iguana (in the summer when they are in their outdoor enclosure).
Yeah Garters! Getting a pair of captive bred eastern flame garters later this summer from a breeder in Europe
that's so cool!
I kept my 2 unrelated females together and they've done great but they had a big enclosure with loads of hides and never had an issue. You're right it depends on the gecko I just had 2 lady's the really where indifferent or enjoyed each others company usually sleeping in the same hide usually.... And this was a big tank with like 2 tunnels and 6 caves.
great video! i was just wondering what you thought about housing crested geckos and anoles together? i’ve heard lots of different things!
not a great idea
@@WickensWickedReptiles okay thank you!!

ok!
I'd love to see a video about cohabiting cresties! Sorry, I'm a little late.❤
