a new genre: classical funk; I dig it.
clementine yu minimalist funk
Lion Hansmaier isn’t this vapor funk?
more like baroque funk
counterpuntal funk
Legendary funk drummer bernard purdir had a song bacl in the 70s called "funky mozart"
these dudes really put a whole ass fugue in the middle of the track. this is amazing
Bach would totally upvote this
Even Glenn Gould ...
mvl and Keep calm and have fun for the win!
@@wojtek1895 hey calm down
I'd bet he'd also like the "CONTRAFUNKTUS XII for two voices" in "It Gets Funkier II".
@@wojtek1895 dont calm down, turn it up !!!
Slowly realising that all of my favourite Vulfpeck compositions are by Woody
I insist in the fact that Woody is an unsung hero
he does the composing for Santa Baby right?
*Arranging
Woody IS Vulfpeck!
Thank you very much, now I have to watch all my favorite Vulfpeck tracks to check if Woody composed it
Yup.
+robcantor Please work together, a live session of sorts would be insane!
Here I am happy to find another goofy wonky sound, this more from the past, and a Yellow Tie appears.....epic.
Ah, the Yellow Tie. It's been a long time.
@@pierce324 Stole my mf comment bruh
Of course ma boy rob cantor likes vulf
As Archimedes once said, "Give me a lever long enough, and a place to stand, and Joe Dart's bass playing, and I can funk the world."
Or something.
Goddammmnnnn. Vulfpeck is basically one entity. Just sounds so tight and unified.
You got that right! They're insane!
bstrd525 youre pic is explain a lot of thing.
+bstrd525 That's the idea of a fugue! It's displayed perfectly in this song, as they did intentionally
It’s called practice
This is tastier than ravioli
Mmmmm thanks for the lunch tip
whats in the pockitoli
And not even the Chef Boyardee stuff
vulfioili.
Oh my God this song is brilliant. Fugue State is the state of mind one personality experiences when another personality becomes the conscious personality, when a person has dissociative identity disorder (split personality). (Basically, when one personality "takes control.")
A fugue is a, "contrapuntal composition in which a short melody or phrase (the subject) is introduced by one part and successively taken up by others and developed by interweaving the parts."
The dissonant parts of this song represent the dissociation. The interweaving of different musical phrases is the other personalities interweaving with the "main" personality.
God I hope I'm not wrong
I don't know why being "wrong" or "right" would remove any value to this brilliant comment.
Not being hyperbolic here, this is one of the best songs I've ever heard in my life. I listen to it over and over and over and over and over on different speakers and different headphones just to get new perspectives of it. It's so good. That segment at 0:41 makes me fucking nut. The tone of the keyboard on the right speakers has a bit of drive to it that goes back to the resolve afterwards legitimately can't sound better to me. It's like the perfect noise lol.
n ut
@@awllypollyas8292 lol
So tight.
deep pocket
unironically. the song is amazing on so many levels.
How I wish I could find people to play with like you guys. I've been devouring all of your videos for the past couple of days now. Somehow you flew under my radar until then. Everything you people do is pretty amazing on every level. I know I'm gushing and believe me I don't impress easily. If it were just incredible musicianship that would have been enough. If you just had remarkable cinematography in your vids, that would have been enough. If it were only your quirky sense of humor that too would have been enough. With a MIGHTY HAND and an OUTSTRETCHED ARM you brought me forth out of boredom. You truly rock my socks off.
Carl
Couldn't agree more.
SkyP1e these guys are the definition of geniuses
what a beautifully true comment
and a truly beautiful one at that
Oh man great haggadah reference
I really love the way that reverb subtly gets more lively around 2:24
The way the melody gets passed between guitar and piano still gives me chills 2 years later. Forever my favorite vulf piece :)
It’s called polyphony. You’d love Baroque music.
the restraint and groove on this song is just KILLING.
Vulfpeck's songs should be in Better Call Saul
Amine Anli I would have no problem with that.
They would definitely fit. Wouldn't surprise me at all.
Amine Anli Better Call Saul is set in the 2000’s so it wouldn’t make sense.
@@cyandinomashups But besides that, I think they would fit right in
@@samcarroll6210 Yeah, plus just as background music, it wouldn't make much of a difference if it's anachronistic or not.
A work of pure Breenius.
Yeah, in the Neil Breen episode he uses Fugue State.
I just went and watched that YMS episode, it was hilarious!
Jack Stratton is a "Turbo Christ"
this comment sent me on a quest to watch some of the best movies ever made. Thank you
I KNEW IVE HEARD IT BEFORE THANK YOU IT WAS KILLING ME
Nice. That groove reminds me of Steely Dan.
More like Al Green.
The early Dan albums, esp. Can't Buy a Thrill.... I made the same comment
I get that
You can't pay what you owe with money.
Goodness Gracious Great Balls of Funk
This the best band of the century.
My favorite Vulfpeck song. Hell yes.
Josh Woodward beautiful isn’t it
Love the Drum solo at 1:23.
LOL
i don't know why but this song was stuck in my head in my dreams. Literally looked up my whole youtube history to find it.
Holy crap, it's been years since I've heard some good funk with a Rhodes keyboard, I didn't know anyone was making stuff like this nowadays. Came here from the Progressive Underground program on WDET out of Detroit, glad they opened my ears up to you guys!
I believe that is a Wurlitzer my friend
Your parents should've named you Peter
***** Wow, haven't heard that one before.
Your parents should've named you Peter
Your parents should've named you Peter
this is my favorite song by you guys. its so sharp and classically written! Your writing and performance is wonderfully satisfying as it so deeply compliments the nature of the tune and use of instruments tying funk and classical music in a kind of romance that I have never heard melded before! this song is brilliantly amazing to me!
I remember in concert they played this and halfway through the song, everyone started "singing along" to the chorus. Love it.
When I need to practice and I'm alone I frequently put you guys on and jam violin and guitar along with you. I realize that sounds like the creepy musician's way of modern day social media stalking, but regardless, you guys are inspiring. Keep it up, fellas!
It’s an age old tradition. Everybody learning to play does that dude.
I would pay money to see videos of you jamming over this on the violin. Sounds awesome.
@@EricLeCrennSanchez Oh fuck, I'm not special?! I forgot how people 20 years ago before youtube played along to videos online.
Woah, chill dude. I was just saying that what you were saying wasn’t creepy at all, or “social media stalking”. And yes, people didn’t play along to videos on the internet 20 years ago, but they played along to they’re favorite albums, whether it be via records, cd’s, mixtapes, etc.
@@mfrican1127 tapes, cds, vinyls and more existed 20 years ago my guy.
This is still their best. If y’all write something like this with Antwan on vocals you’ll get a Grammy
Found this little ditty from live from here with Chris Thele, never been more glad i listened to that show.
much more concentration it seems vith this track---it seems a lot more technically difficult than your previous work.
Amazing vork, Vulf
definitely seems that way, man :]
Mr Flux brought me here, and I love it.
is that the guy who made the windows 7 song
yes and no
Holy crap!! How have I not heard of these guys until today? This video made me an instant fan.
the only thing wrong with this is that it's only 2:56 long
best things in life don't last long
Put it on repeat :) From 1:52 on is one of the best build-ups I've ever heard, with pure joy at 2:29
if you get recommended music, listen to it, its gold
👍👍👍
Every Vulfpeck track that doesn't have singing on it is GOLD.
Back pocket is cool too
simply not true
the backhandedness of this lmao
A mix of grooviness and the strive for musical perfection of the 1700's. All the great composers would be proud of how on point with the metronome ya'll would be, along with expressing raw emotion and grace as all the great composers strived to do. You're music is beautiful and powerful. Keep it up.
I was searching "Fugue State" to learn for my upcoming psychology test, and that's when I stumbled upon this. Boy, am I glad I did. Great stuff guys :D
put a big smile on my face and one on each face of each voice that lives each day rent free in my mind. love this,
This song speaks to me on a spiritual level.
Jack's got that subtle hat choke down so good you can only see it if you look at his foot, not if you look at the actual hi hat
You guys need to meet MF DOOM
+hermes 2xgreat i support this statement
+hermes 2xgreat dude i know this sounds like some doom shit is there a song he has that sounds like this its driving me nuts bcause i know ive heard this in hiphop before
+Norberto Infante it brings to mind some of his special herbs joints to me, though cant think of one directly
+Michael Keyes i would die
+Michael Keyes Doomvulf
would be a great ringtone
Thank you YMS.
theo's little dance right before the build in the bridge is everything
9 years and this still tight af
holy shit it sounds like a Gentle Giant song.
Crazy thing finding gentle fans listening to the vulf. Both incredible bands.
holy shit, it's somehow Gentle Giant had a baby with funk
fellow Gentle Giant Fan here, jus checking in
gentle giants ftw
another phenomenal group.
This is crispier than a burnt piece of toast with hash oil and butterscotch breath mints. Hot damn! 🔥
this is so smoother
Vulfpeck>Bach confirmed
the drums at 1:25 FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKK
+aredfield Waited to see what happened at 1:25 ... wasn't dissappointed!
im not hearing any drums at 1:25! am i retarded?
maaskeimorgen yes
You DID however help me realize the one wrong note I've ever heard Joe dart play
We're just gonna skip over that, can't focus on the negative, makes it sound authentic anyway
wrong note?? where??
MSTF1 Brought me here back in 2017, haven’t regretted it since.
Same!
i see you are cultured as well
The tune that made me fall in love with you guys. ..and now a few years later still one of my favs♡♡♡ please never stop playing
I remember the first time I listened to this in the car with my family 6 years ago, and when they started fugueing I told everyone they had to be quiet this was the greatest moment in my life and I was right. I had never, and could have never, expected a fugue in the middle of a funk album, and it felt like it was made just for me. Damn it still sounds as good as it did in that car.
The mixing and instrument placement in this song is PHENOMENAL.
This is literally the best band ever.
FUNKIEST THING THIS SIDE OF 1979!!!
@freedomcostsabuck05 You mean 1797
The 0:56 section reminds me of Gentle Giant's The House the Street the Room. I can definitely hear 70's prog influence in some of their songs, especially when they play live and add more of their finesse.
this song is a fucking Rollercoaster that just like brings you around and around these guys are what talent looks like
It's weird listening to this without hearing YMS talk about Neil Breen over top of it
Ahh that funk magic is so infectious.
1:30 joe going into the melody again is my favorite thing in the world
2:00 woody with that joe dart neck
BTW, you should should be on Patreon. It's like Kickstarter, but on a recurring monthly basis.
Josh Woodward hmmm but i find that's he reason a lot of people don't give money to charity etc. The thought of getting into a contract thing isn't the same as once off things or kind of...when ever you can stuff. If you have a lot of money its okay though I guess
ah the days when patreon was new. Just buy their records when they come out. It’s like patreon, but you get a sweet vinyl record
These boys are siiiiick!!!! Overdosed on funkibiotics!!!
THIS SONG MAKES ME SO HAPPY!!!!!! Thanks guys!!
One of their best track for sure.
these guys have that thousand island stare going for em. hell yeah dude
I'm in a fugue right now
This song is a hip-hop sample waiting to happen. MY GAWD.
Johann Sebastian would be proud of these young musical pioneers. Such a great varied composition!
my kingdom for a keys tutorial
And a guitar one from old Theo over there x)
I realize that only music I want to listen to is Vulfpeck... Crazy stuff... You guys make me happy and satisfied! BIG HUG & LOVE!
i have been listening this song about 3 times a day for the last 2 weeks haha.
Love it Vulpeck, good vibes to you !!!
Guys, just keep going, you're such genius musicians!
I'm a big fan of yours!
Whoa, love the outro that starts at 2:02
Man! Where have I been all these 67 years? It took our 23 year old son to turn me onto these dudes!
My 20 yo daughter turned me onto them. I'm 56. She's attending Berklee College of Music, so she has exposure to a lot of cool music. When she recommends something, I listen.
Sean Landis: Man, what would we do without our kids?...........Live in ignorance I reckon! How ghastly, lol !!!
They never cease to amaze...i can really imagine a justice remix
My schools drumline did an arrangement of this as a warmup and it actually works
Woah can I get that sheet music?
@@hmedhmed3520 I don't have the sheet music for it anymore :/
Flawless performance!
Reminds me a little bit of Justice. with those high guitar notes.
That George Duke vibe during the bridge.... So good.
Joli petit contrepoint ! Et le son, ce son, quel SON !!!
This is the very first video I've seen on Vulfpeck 5 years ago. I became a Fan immediately...
Sooo stylish!!! Can't describe how much I enjoy this
Real music,rare in 2021..
Love seeing all of their bodies move in sync on the last two hits
Starting to feel old when coming back to earlier Vulf
this song is so good it makes me want to cry. everything is like surgically placed. in writing there are like dead words that you can delete without losing impact, if it were translated into music there is not a single dead word in this song.
Bach is in heaven chilling and arranging this sonate for God's orchestra, and God's been loving it :D
Great track, love that last chord progression!
This song is perfect
I feel like I've watched this 496,764 times.
I've watched it 1.3 million times
Words fail me but this groove sure doesn't.
this song is so in there
I just found you guys about a week ago love this song you guys rock :D
one second I was watching the end of High Maintenance, the next, I'm grooving to this awesome band.
This is where it began for me.
This song is always a masterpiece 🤩
At 1:33 Jack, the drummer, is actually (i think (after many repeats)) tapping/stomping on what i believe to be the foot of the snare to generate that very soft, faint "snare" sound. I have never seen anyone do that. Ever. So cool. Awesome song. Please never die
I think he actually just took a gate off the snare in the mix, revealing the buzz from the bass amp
This is some funkier Johann Sebastian Bach dope shit
BEAUTIFUL
Just can't stop listening. Love you guys.
They are just fantastic. Just discovering them!
Low and tight, damn that's good
