I had a 96 GST and I loved that car! Nothing beats that body style from the 90's especially the convertible version. Unfortunately, Mitsubishi ruined the Eclipse after the 2nd gen. 400 hp is amazing and I can't wait to see that car finished, nice work!
I’ve had a couple DSM’s over the years. 1991 Eclipse GST and a 1993 Talon TSi. The 1st gen DSM’s were reliable a heck for me. Couple oil leaks that were easy to fix, but nothing crazy. I modified the crap out of those cars and they just kept on running. The talon ran 11.1 in the 1/4 on a regular basis. Not crazy power, but it was fun. My friends 2nd gen’s were always broken. Daily driving 4G63T in a cold climate with the TB coolant bypass sucks. Your throttle can freeze open or closed. Not a fun situation. IIRC I always installed an aftermarket TB. Lose that non-recirculating BOV setup on a stock ECM. You need to recirculate the BOV to maintain AFR on those motors.
I miss my 95 TSI I remember for MONTHS in highschool I refused to buy anything else other than that specific model. Also like you said damn reliable and the parts were super easy to replace or swap especially with the number of totaled Eclipses where I lived at the time.
You're a little misguided. He's on speed density and not a MAF, so he can vent to atmosphere with no ill effects as it doesn't measure airflow, it uses temperature and pressure in the manifold to do it. The stock ECU has made 1000+hp with the ECMLink software he has installed in it, and the TB coolant bypass does NOT help the TB from "freezing open or closed". It is only used on first startup, once the car is warm the ambient temperature of the engine and heat-transfer will keep the TB hot, even if you ran with the hood completely off the car. The temperature of the intake manifold alone is in the mid 100 degrees. It's basically as hot as the head is.
With moderate miles or a fresh rebuild, the 4g63 will reliably hold around 460hp on stock internals. With 240,000, not so much lol. But yeah! That's a big reason for the love of these things. That motor is not weak by any stretch of the imagination. They built it strong Alex!
You doubled the horsepower and it still held together. Shows you just how overbuilt those stock engines are. Impressive! I love off the wall stuff like this.

I can't wait to see it fully restored. I love DSMs, I had a 90 and 93 Talon TSI AWD, had a similar set of mods as you on my 93. I miss them. It's so hard to find one, living in the Midwest, that isn't completely rusted out. My brother has a 97 TSI AWD that used to be super clean, but winter just rotted it bottom up.
19:07 “Just incase you didn’t know this was a dual overhead cam engine…” Forgot about the giant DOHC right beside it! 😂
This definitely one of my favorite videos! Love the 2G eclipse I had a 3G and always wanted a 2G gsx keep them coming youre literally fulfilling my teenage dreams lol.
I’m 32 and I still feel like it’s a flex to have the sunroof popped 😂😂
Mechanic from the uk here absolutely love the attention you put into cars when your working and the amount of projects you complete love the videos your self and your friends your always having great fun keep it up
Can't wait for that cosmetic overhaul! Quite the LEGIT street car!
Great to see the mix of challenge and reward! Awesome! Love that you didn't chase the 400hp too far--you are smart and not YT silly. That is respect for the car (and maybe your audience). Keep up the great content (and hats off to the tuning twins--nice to see their work and dedication in action too!!!)
Going Diddy party on the gsx with the baby oil 😂
4:32 love how you naturally went for this stroking action 🤣
Your turbo goes pew.
We need your turbo to go "chu chu chu chuuuuuuw"
Pro tip: when rolling fenders you want to make sure the back side lip edge is clean as rocks can get trapped and make dents when rolling. Also never make the lip flat always leave some gap.
I went into a dealership once to buy a Mitsubishi FTO, but then I saw something pretty and pure white with two turbos, and left the place driving a Mk4 Supra TT
Sideburns! Good video. Welcome to dsm life. I've been fully restoring a 1ga for the last 4 years. I also have a 98 spyder awd swapped, big boost. Take it easy on repeated launches. Tranny, clutch, transfer case, diff won't be happy, let them cool off. Awesome video
Hey Alex. I know your channel is mechanically focused which is amazing, but have you ever thought about doing some driver training and showing us just what these amazing cars you build are capable of? I would love to see you doing some track racing or drifting or something. Just a thought. Thanks for all the great content and all your hard work.
Love your videos. I watch all of them and just wanted to say that your knowledge and skills on sooooo many different vehicles always amazes me. Keep it up
2:49 thank you for keeping that in 😂😂😂 we all go through that! And we wanna know it's not just us! 😅😂😂😂
Have to guess Jack is coming, looking forward to the make over and glad you didn't blow it up. Oh and the DOHC on the valve cover wasn't enough of a give away.
Playstation back in the dash would be baller 😂🔥
Now you know what everyone was talking about in 2004 when they were driving around with their Force performance turboed DSMlink tuned dsms. Welcome to the club.
20 years later but at least you're here😂
Another saturday morning video. This is my coffee.
Love these DSM’s! AWD and a manual! I remember the eagle talon. Tuning twins are awesome! Almost 400 nice Alex!
Bruh Danger to manifold 🤷♂️🔰👽🎬
only if you have the base Chrysler 420a engine and Pacesetter headers :)
I’m with Alex there! I love being able to look up and see the sky now and again through my sunroof.
5:52 Was that a GMC Typhoon on the lift?👀👀
I don't think so, but... 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
I wondered about the mystery car that's blurred out. I came here to see if anyone else noticed.
Looked like under or next to the Lightning @29:43
@@Dwigt_Rortugal It's not blurred that I saw. Camera was out of focus for a second.
@@FastSS02 @5:52 it is intentionally blurred. @29:43 looks a lot like a Jimmy Blazer!
The first "fast" car I ever drove was an Eagle Talon TSi with a manual boost controller a Thermal R&D turbo back exhaust and a few bolt ons. I loved it. 22 years later I still have the turbo bug. Thanks DSM for that!
Screw the gambling ads. Ruins people's lives. Step it up Alex.
I had a 12 second 93 MR2 Turbo back in the day and these DSM's were always a pain at the dragstrip. As usual love the content.
I think I saw a Typhoon 05:53 😅..
You for sure did!
At the 28 minute mark you can see it
I had 5 or 6 DSM's growing up and they were a blast. They did seem to always have an issue, but it was awesome to beat am american v8 and make people mad lol. I love ur channel and really hope some day you do a volvo! I recently got a p2 s60 and it reminds me alot of my dsm's from years ago, just room for my kids now lol. I'd love to see you get one and modify it!
" Don't wanna risk this engine at all," he says. 10 hot laps in a row For 5 horses?
Luckily, he knows a guy who's pretty handy with engines...😂
I didn't know you were an expert! Fun fact you can see the jump cuts in the video. He could have waited 5 seconds or 15 minutes between each pull for all you know..
He said Drivetrain not engine.
Love the content Alex! Long vid, but could watch it while between customers at my part time auto parts job. You inspire me to do something with a car as you do! Keep up the good work!
Gotta love the Antique Extended plates good way to save a buck in good ol Illinois. I'm right there with ya Alex!
I had a 96 GST and I loved that car! Nothing beats that body style from the 90's especially the convertible version. Unfortunately, Mitsubishi ruined the Eclipse after the 2nd gen. 400 hp is amazing and I can't wait to see that car finished, nice work!
Jack is coming to town . Lets gooo !!!!
They built it strong Alex!
i have a 1990 tsi awd talon and a 1994 eclipse gst, they are a absolute blast to drive everyday. good job on the eclipse!
Dang, that Plymouth Colt brought back some memories!!
You doubled the horsepower and it still held together. Shows you just how overbuilt those stock engines are. Impressive! I love off the wall stuff like this.
Hey Alex!!! Max is in need of a hair cut!!! I’d love to come down and hook him up with one! We could add it into one of your episodes.
