Where did you find the official names?
@@AstonishingSodApe They're listed on the wiki
@@lloydlejack-official You mean Wikipedia or one of those fandom sites?

I became a PhD historian because of this game!
This game peaked my interest in History, not gonna lie!
That's awesome. AoE had so much to teach, and most players were happy to learn. The online manual was the cherry on top, so many interesting info about ancient history.
Based... and, same (in a few months at least)
Just curious because it sounds interesting, what exactly does your job entail?
I gained a lifelong passion for ancient history at least partially because of this game.
The only game I can say I have played all through the night until daylight without realising it. Awesome stuff.
For me is the first song from 0:00 " The Hunt" Main menu is what peaks the nostalgia within me.
Polyester Jammy!
Same here. Oh boy, countless hours spent playing this game…
For me, it's "Conquest (Cave)". _Something just utterly _*_magical_*_ about that track..._
@@MrDibara ohh yes.... As you said, "magical" I agree.
I never thought about how important the music is to the whole experience of playing a game as a kid. This is stunning stuff.
90's had amazing music, it all went downhill from there with the death of PC gaming's golden age and the rise of XBox and of the gaming bros. It's not just AoE, dozens of amazing soundtracks come to mind without thinking about it too hard - Total Annihilation, Starcraft, Red Alert, Diablo, Quake, Unreal Tournament, NFS4, Abe's Oddysee, Freespace, Heroes of Might and Magic 2/3, Blood 2, Half Life, Sanitarium, and the list goes on and on and on.
it is!!!!!
Commandos 2 !!!!!!!!!!@@T0m1s
Dark Reign Soundtrack is also glorious@@T0m1s
@T0m1s SOMEBODY REMEMBERS ABE'S ODDYSSE! 🤩
For real, the music in that game could be so _beyond_ immerssive! I still remember Paramonia's music...
April 2023: Just wanted to thank everyone for the 11k views! I'm glad this video brought some nostalgic feelings to many people who grew up with this game.
Thank you for uploading! It really made my afternoon, bringing back so many good old memories :D
Most of the other uploads of it have doubles, versions that are cut at the start or miss plenty at the end, or just are missing some tracks.
The Emergence and Dawn of a New Age are two of my favourites that are missing from some people's videos/playlists.
@@Endelite Yes, some playlists/videos were missing two or even three songs and if they had all of them a few were cutoff. Most people i think ignore that final track too (RoR Credits), but i remembered it because it used to play after Bigelow's Bungalow (not sure if that was supposed to happen tho)
As soon as I heard the first notes of Eastern Echoes' 21:16 song, my whole childhood came back, when I played Age of Empires in the evenings.
It was wonderful, and when I discovered the codes for this game in some computer magazine, childhood became even easier :)
30:50 That whole sequence is a nostalgia-trip for sure.
It really hypes you up!
The true AoE theme ;p
This game is my childhood! I became a history buff after this. Love the soundtrack and the AoE series is definitely one of my favorites. I think I still will remember this game when I'm about to die.
Same here. Glad you came to this video.
@@lloydlejack-official Whats your favorite track btw? Mine is Medieval Melody (Empire)
@@Aaahrg Fretless Salsa!
@@lloydlejack-official Also great choice! Dawn of a New Age is a classic too!
Yesterday we saw the release of Return of Rome for Age of Empires II: DE. It's great to see the original 16 civilizations getting some love and recognition!
im a little sad we didnt get the campaigns tho, hopefully someone ports/recreates them on the workshop
@@melonmino6958 devs confirmed they're being released soon in regular updates.
Well... Tbh, I feel like a dupe. Buying the DE of AoE 1 while I could have just waited a bit more for something improbable like that.
@@NK-kh5qs Would have been a 5 year wait tho. I hate how DE1 was neglected by Forgotten Empires, but at the same time i think "purists" are also partially to blame since if they changed the game too much with QoL features and new units/techs/mechanics like they partially did in Return of Rome they would have complained. While i'm NOT a huge fan of how Return of Rome was designed, pretty much sticking to the safe zone and not changing core gameplay too much (and let's not talk about the lack of the og campaigns on launch), i like it as an alt way of playing AoE1 more than the Definitive Edition.
Supremely underrated soundtrack, I haven't heard much like it anywhere else
Inmersive, atmosferic and relaxing all at once
@@lloydlejack-official and some tracks even get adrenaline going, it really has it all. The remastered version is great but doesn't give off the same dungeon synth-y ambiance you're talking about
@@lloydlejack-official plus they didn't cover the menu music which is a travesty
I was listening to the soundtrack of Stronghold from Robert L. Euvino the other day, and some songs and/or small parts reminded me of the aoe soundtrack. Don't expect it to sound exactly like this ost though, it definitely got its own style. Still worth to give it a try!
Anyone know anything that sounds like it? I have searched high and low for years to no avail haha. It's dungeon synth adjacent for sure, but its own thing.
so many memories....
Indeed. This game means a lot for me
You can find this game in the bottom of my heart
I just checked and it is really down there
@@ing_frantisek_mohykan haha
You have a heart of gold... _Don't let them take it from you!_
That's correct. I remember the CD version was far superior than midi.
100%
I had a pirated version so have never heard this before. This is insanely good. I am actually jealous your nostalgia is better than mine.
@@Tpoleful I'm really nostalgic about AoE to the point i don't really care about the lack of QoL features or the AI, i enjoy it the same way i did back when i was 5.
But CD doesn't have Sick Sate Rittim which is fire
I remember how my first copy of AoE only played the Discovery at the Sea aka the Loss theme during the normal gameplay when CD music was enabled, I was actually surprised to see there were more CD tracks but always wondered why they didn't play.
Seems like this video got some views. For anyone interested, my favorite track is Fretless Salsa, followed by Egyptian Hymn, New Technology and Crawly. Conquest is VERY nostalgic too.
I just sat here for the better part of an hour, at 3 am... remembering my childhood. I was born in 1996. My dad let me play this game for the first time when I was three years old. I have not heard any of this music in... probably somewhere around 12-15 years, and each single piece of music is making me think of some different memory, some map, building towers, desperately trying to make my way through hordes of aggressive Gaia beasts...
Thank you, genuinely.
You're welcome friend ❤
The tracks from Rise of Rome are something beyond spectacular, I travel through time with them, incredible how they somehow emanate this "ancient" feeling. I love listening to them, since I had the original CD of the game!
Medieval Melody, Crawly and Fretless Salsa hit hard on the nostalgia, at least for me. All songs are great on their own tho. Stephen Rippy and Co. were surely something else in regards to music.
Can someone please explain to me why Rise of Rome soundtracks sound so different in this video? Very different from the game. Am I missing something? I don't remember hearing them this different while playing the game. Does it have to do with game version or something? I searched AOE fandom and it doesn't seem to have an answer either.
A clarification would be much appreciated!
@@ayoubsbai6339 hey man, that's because the game has two versions of the soundtrack: one in high quality, as audio tracks on the CD itself and a "lower" quality MIDI version saved on the game folder.
@@stormrider.14 Omg! Now I get it. Indeed, the lower quality version always sounded like its made with MIDI to me. Thanks! The thing is I never got to get the game CD itself, that's why. Thanks for your answer
fretless salsa is amazing
It is such a good soundtrack. The remastered version misses some of the weight of the base, are overly orchestrated and lack grit.
I totally agree, that's why i replaced DE OST with the classic soundtrack.
Also, the DE sountrack was made with the midi order, rather than the CD one (as seen in this video), so the order in which songs are played is kinda awkward, specially since Fretless Salsa (and i think one or two more) play twice, due to the RoR soundtrack playing in the proper order after the midi one. Can't tell you for sure since it's been years since the last time i heard the new orchestrated soudtrack.

I ised to love going to the game shop as a kid and seeing all those big box games. My first one was settlers 2 then i got this. The boxes were madsive
The Settlers is a really nice franchise too!
These two discs had great themes, but my fav one is Polyester Jammy, that is a master piece.
Fretless Salsa all the way!
It’s only when I listen to it decades later that I realise how the soundtrack takes a lot of influence from Dead Can Dance
First track is best. amazing switches , strong pushing vibes with historic atmosphere. absolute masterpiece
Thank you so much for upload this OST!
I've cried a little bit, when I heard some of those epic melodies and march songs.
No idea how, but some of them are more enjoyable to listen than it was used to be (The Hunt with the african tribe theme in the back is a nice touch).
New Technology is absolutely amazing, what a beast of a track. I see ancient armies facing each other ready to charge with this music man (kind of stuff you would imagine of Homer's Iliad)...
Esta musica me hace volver a los 10 años, es magica. Gracias por subirla
These games were released when Turok was released on N64
wow, Fretless Salsa is like a combination of a song off the Doom and Dark Reign OST's
Dark Reign is a fun game too, even if some call it a c&c clone
back in the day (1990s I mean) they called almost all RTS games C&C clones, so I'm not surprised
The best game ever created in the time of history of human kind.
I prefer these over the "refined, Definitive" versions of Soundtrack of AOE DE. These have that raw, intense nostalgic vibes that can't be found in the DE ones sadly.
00:00 The Hunt...
33.58 The Build up
37:00 Peaceful Village
39:27 Hymans Wrath
We wont ever remember them, but they are with us...
Studying history just because this game
The AoE franchise peaked my interest in history so i relate to your comment.
The first track of this list is Epic. It sets the scene of AoE games way better than the Menu track from AoE2 & AoE3.
I only play AoE2. But I wish this menu track was available to choose in AoE2...
I remember always making my own map with island on each side and a small "bridge" crossing in the middle. Main problem was that trees would run out too fast. They fixed that in Aoe2 luckily
Resources last longer in AoE2, even with the higher pop cap
Luckily if you knew, you could place individual trees like paint with mousekeys; they contain 75 wood, and you can stack them really close from memory. Or there was a hotkeys to unlock gridlock
I think in later revisions, you can basically put one unit per pixel if you want ;p
All old games should be free. These classics are what defines us as human race.
It is free, if you know where to look.
Flying Dutchman
I was 10 years old, incredible game
I was somewhere between 6 or 7. _Magical times..._
54:57 Incredible
Crawly is such a great song!
Turns out all my memories are of Rise of Rome, except the original intro music. I hardly recognise the original tracks.
Even tho I played a lot of RTS games back in the day I somehow never played Age of Empires series. Gonna start that soon, after finishing up C&C:Generals campaigns (another game I discovered only recently lol).
33:56 was my gateway experience as a kid playing Age of Empires
Definitely a great "build up" song
Too bad I only played Easy and Moderate otherwise I never stood a chance in Insane. Add that I basically treated the game like Sim City lmao
Got reunited with this masterpiece after I saw Beastyqt and Aussie Drongo on my recommended list recently (seeing AoE4 that is) and had to look up the OSTs. Checked them out one-by-one and saw it here. Thanks for this list 🙏
I just hope this video doesn't get randomly taken down or something. I actually did it because there were mostly individual videos for each track, which was kinda annoying, and i was pretty sure there was no compilation of both AoE+RoR soundtracks in one long video.
@@lloydlejack-official Thanks for the work man! And yeah, I hope so too, that this doesn't get taken down. Had this playlist downloaded on my phone for when driving, I've no internet (like yesterday), or when this does get taken down. I'm honestly lazy to go find songs from albums or OSTs of certain artists or games, so compilations like these do help a lot.

They really did this soundtrack dirty in the remastered version. As the whole game ofcourse...
Indeed, most of them feel off, like, they don't sound the same. I have grown to like the remastered version of Medieval Melody tho
Yeah my thoughts exactly.
I always thought that Kitty's Song somewhat suited Necropolis in Heroes of Might and Magic III.
EDIT: Ha, you only have it listed here as 'Crawly' and I used the other name without checking. Kitty's Song (Crawly) then.
Pretty sure all songs have two names but when i checked i couldnt find all of them
🥲The nostalgia..... we still have our disc copy of the original AoE 1 (no expansion pack), but until I get/recieve a newer proper gaming watever, I can't play most of the newer games I want to play (including the Age of Empires/Mythology Definitive Editions) on Steam, etc. Well, that is except the 2004 Battlefront PC version and Empire at War....but it'd be just me vs. AI b/c no more Game Spy, so no online games for now sadly.

Can someone please explain to me why Rise of Rome soundtracks sound so different in this video? Very different from the game. Am I missing something?
It's the CD version; in RoR same songs, but better quality than the MIDI.
In Original AoE1 non expansion, the CD version was mostly different songs as compared to the MIDI versions.
And with any MIDI version, it depended what MIDI library your PC was using

For some reason the new HD/EDE tracks don't give me the same vibe as the og AoE1/2/3 soundtrack. Stephen Rippy was not just a composer, he was something else
I wonder why the RoR soundtrack sounds so MIDIish compared to the original one?
Its either the audio compression that makes it sounds ever so slightly different or maybe you remember the midi ror soundtrack which actually sounds very similar
In RoR it seems like they made the MIDI first, then used a software to create a "proper" version.
In OG AoE they seemed to make the CD version first, then tried to turn it into MIDI, or ended up with different songs that maybe were originally intended
