    Even now, five years later, this story is so heartbreaking. The negligence of the company operating the ferry not even helping the kids to evacuate the ship. They crew just left after handing out life jackets. They knew the ferry was sinking, and they just left those kids to die. I can understand well the anger of these kids' parents and their outrage at the way the entire tragedy was handled.

    This still pisses me off this many years later! The Captain essentially murdered all of those teenagers by continuing to tell them to stay put in their cabins. If he had of taken the proper actions, and ordered Abandon Ship they could have at least tried to save themselves. Jesus, those poor parents must be so heartbroken, and angry.

      The captain knew that the students would occupy most of the lifeboats so he might not be able to board one. I think everyone could have gotten out alive..or atleast just have minor casuality if they all went outside. What's infuriating is during the trial when asked why he instructed the passengers not to move, he just answered "I dont know". Imagine a 69 yrs old still wanting to live when he already gotten probably the most out of his life while those high school students died, who just started living with bright future ahead of them. Life sentence is not enough for this asshole. Slow torture everyday by drowning him then lifting him up when he's about to pass out should be included in his sentence.

    • @user-jg9rp5qf4g
      @user-jg9rp5qf4g 2 роки тому +3

      What's awful is that those instructions made it even worse than if none were given at all. If no instructions were given to stay put, everyone would have abandoned ship immediately because it's obvious that's what needed to be done. Instead, they stayed on the ship until it was too late and the window of survival closed. Infuriating and heartbreaking.

    A US navy ship arrived about 40 minutes after the incident and they were all ready to give the resources needed in rescuing possible survivors but the SK government and their president told them to just go back and the SK coastguard will handle everything. The government refused help from US, China and Japan. They even released fake news saying at first that everyone was rescued. Plus they said that in a day they had tried for around 40 times to get into the capsized ship but then a civilian diver admitted that there wasn't even one effort of going down into the water that day. He said "They keep saying that it was still a bad weather and we can't go in. But as professional divers, we say it was fair enough for us to go."

      They were paid very poorly, if at all, and many did not receive any financial support afterwards, such as Kim Gwan-Hong. He was one of the rescuers, and committed suicide due to the trauma from what he saw and the heartache of not being able to find every missing child. He faced huge financial troubles because the parasites of the government wouldn't look after the people who worked so hard and dealt with horrific PTSD and serious permanent injuries from the search. Even so, he continued to actively fight for justice by speaking and supporting the families of victims. I hope his soul rests in peace with the victims.

    I keep thinking what the scenery was when these divers found students - not only find them but drag them out one by one. About a handful of divers committed suicide from this, because of the horrors they kept experiencing at night while sleeping and during the day. One diver (who committed suicide) mentioned every time he goes out to the sea, he'll see seagulls, looking very cute and beautiful, even their cries were beautiful. This diver immediately knew they were cries from younglings down at sea bottom crying for help.
    Has anyone seen Jaws? I bet all of you. Everytime I think of divers pulling out kids from the cabins, the scene from Jaws (eyes wide open and body blown up) comes to mind - very disturbing.

    The captain even told the students and everyone to stay on board and escaped.

    Proper Emergency training will save future lives. Helps ease the chaos because everyone will know what to do, how to act, WHERE to go and where NOT TO GO in emergency situations. I know this is older but it seriously bothers me that people die due to lack of planning and education.

    If they don't want to help the students then don't just save yourselves but damn why did you order them to just stay there?? They can save themselves even without your help but you didn't let them. So cruel. You maybe escape death but we all know that after all this you know where you will go.

    so sad... one of the rescue divers committed suicide because he saw small birds flying over the spot where the ferry sank and heard the bird cries, he said they sounded like the wails and screams of the students begging him to not leave them behind and rescue them and he was traumatized.... the SK government and the captain’s crew really fucked this up and sabotaged this....

    So sad, I don't want to think about what all the girls were thinking in their last minutes while they're still alive. Why didn't they go out of that cabin when the water came? Where they just sitting there with eachother closing their eyes and stopped breathing?
    I wouldn't listen to the crew members to stay where I am when I'm so far from outside the ship.

      The kids genuinely trusted their lives to the captain and to all the folks who they "said" will come and rescue them, maybe thats why they didn't try to escape at first becuase they might have also thought that not following it might as well kill them. Sadly all of it ended with a false hope.

      That's the culture of koreans to always be obedient to their elders and those higher than them. They followed what the announcements were saying because they were just high school students who trusted the captain and truly thought that's the SOP.
