  • In todays video Im doing a routine engine oil change on my Land Rover Discovery 3 (LR3). I show you how you can make this routine task dead easy and virtually tool free while making zero mess (and who dosen't like a clean shed floor).
The basic items you'll need are :
Oil drain pan - at least 7litres capacity: amzn.to/3vwY999
Or for bigger sumps a 15 litre jobbie: amzn.to/3vumAE2
Basic socket set will get you by - heres a brand I would recommend: amzn.to/3ue9OJx However for the diesel disco you'll need a 32mm socket for the oil filter housing.
In regards to replacing the drain plug with valves, here are all the ones Im aware of. If you'd like to do this on your LR3 then you'll need a thread size of M14-1.5. Most of these have application guides on their websites so you can match up with nearly any vehicle.
EZ Valve (what I use): www.ezoil.com.au
    Fumoto: www.oilvalve.c...
    Stahlbus: www.stahlbus.co...
    Amazon links for M14-1.5 valves:
    EZ Valve EZ-106: amzn.to/3eOMbAN
    Fumoto F-106: amzn.to/3uoXxlX
    Stahlbus: amzn.to/3aTSn9A
    Ryco Oil filter: amzn.to/2SoUpbD

Hey Shane, good video on the valve. Just wondering on your service interval do you do it as per LR service intervals or do you perform your oil changes more frequently? I have seen your other videos and noticed you do sampling. Cheers Dan

Hi Dan, thanks for the comment. At the moment engine oil is being changed at or a bit over LR intervals - just tracking the change of the engine oil cooler. I've seen no evidence to suggest shorter intervals and I've previously run to 24,000km on the engine oil and it still looks fine.

that’s good but I would be worried it can lösen up. I was also wondering to use 12v oil pump from oil dipstick but it looks like not oil would be reached from top. still researching

Not much chance of them opening accidentally. The valve I use requires two separate actions to open, you need to move the little handle forward before it can move down to the open position.
