    Being seen and heard on your motorcycle is absolutely critical and can literally save your life in the right/wrong moment. I really love my K1600 GTL, but hated the horn the moment I used it. It isn't very loud and has that higher pitch nasally tone, that seems exclusive to motorcycles. While there are a ton of upgrade options out there, simple easy OEM plug and play seemed the best place to start! The horn straight off the BMW 5 series fits, and is perfect plug and play into the existing harness.
    This horn is LOUD and sounds so much better!
    Required parts and tools:
    OEM BMW "low tone" horn

    13mm ratcheting wrench
    T20 torx driver
    Nice to have:
    Good lighting

    I saw this video and immediately ordered the horn. I installed it this morning. Some differences:
    1. My GTL has the built in fog lights and they have to be removed too. Since that was a hassle, I just loosened it and loosened the top panel. I was able to squeeze in and remove horn with a short 4” 13mm wrench. Other than these differences, this video was very helpful.

    Nice video. Love the detail. 👍👍👍 Hard to find any videos that take the time to show how the plastics come off this bike. Was super clear and informative. Wasn’t looking to change horn but now you have me thinking about it... lol. Still looking for a video for right side removal of tank and side plastics as I am looking at also running power up to bars from battery for a phone charger, I want to make it clean looking and hide everything.

    I installed this horn today with no issues, but I did have to buy a flex head 13mm wrench to reach the nut above horn. The horn is louder than stock.

    I, too, want to thank you for taking the time to make and post this helpful video. I appreciate the details you provide. I was also wondering whether the related relay is needed for the installation?

      Not that I have found, it is straight plug and play! 8)

      Depends on the wattage. If for example it’s a stebel or Denali then YES it needs a relay.
      So basically DONT listen to this guy if you have a decent horn. He is fitting a $20 horn something like you would buy in China or Walmart so that explains a lot. Please seek professional advice instead to be safe

    Hello there, came here to ask if you have ever left the car with the CS style hood in the rain and if you have had any problems with water getting in the engine bay.

      No issues whatsoever, and I also got my hands on an M4 with the CS hood. The OEM vents in the same place as mine, zero issues.

    Excellent Video, thanks! Curious how you found this to be a straight plug and play? I have an '06 K1200GT and would like to check this out cuz the horn on mine is nothing special either. Thanks.

      Happy to help, and I suspect that would be the case, in easy replacement. I doubt BMW changed the plug or how it works, so this would be in improvement.

    Thanks for the vid, just got back from a 10 day ride on my k1600 and every time I honked my horn the group I was with just had to laugh. Sounds like a moped horn.
    Also can you tell me what windshield you have in that bike? Looks like an aftermarket with wider and taller airflow for the passenger?

    What year is your GTL? My 2018 already is rather loud and sounds like a car horn already.

    Hi friend i noted that the horn has a little delay, and it seems that the new one too, do you noticed? In other horns for example you can push many times, intervals of less than a second but i noted the response in this bike is slow to the button. What do you think? I have a 2012

    • @BMWDIYGuy
      @BMWDIYGuy  Рік тому +1

      Interesting.. maybe so? My guess if so would be maybe something about the button itself?

    • @jbadj85
      @jbadj85 Рік тому

      @@BMWDIYGuy i was thinking if the horn is activated only by the button, or there are any other interface that make it response slow, like the ECU in the bike or something

    Is the horn relay required as well?

    • @BMWDIYGuy

      Nope.. straight plug n play for less than $20!
