Corey wasn’t playing over that section, he was defining it.
The drummer is Larnell Lewis. He was a last minute replacement for their usual drummer and he learned the songs on the plane on the way to the gig in Europe, as I understand it. Which is absolutely ridiculous.
I love how this comment is in every snarky puppy reaction videos.
@@hedonicmusic was about to say the same. I mean, how can you not post it...it’s insane
but he b ridiculous that way. There's a video of him learning a song reeeeeeeeal fast. cool stuff.
im not saying its unimpressive.,.....its just standard for professional drummers. like they learn 5-12 songs on the ride to the gig all the time.
@@skurdibbles7913 Yeah it’s common to learn songs or standards quickly, especially if you play in a house band, but originals are different. And to sit in with Snarky Puppy and record last minute is incredible on all levels. Larnell is a hell of a musician.
people will be studying and admiring Corey Henry's keyboard solo for years and years... genius.
Exactly...
Too bad the actual organ SOUND is atrocious.
@@spaceghost8995* *ahem* wut?
I never get tired of watching reactions to this video. They are just amazing, and that keyboard solo is out of this world. Quite frankly one of the most stunning musical performances I have ever witnessed.
What’s crazy is I’ve learned some of their live versions are just as good. Different solos so it takes a couple listens to jam to it like the studios. But sleeper and shofukan at royal albert hall are next level. Also lingus in Denton Corey’s solo is insane.
Larnell Lewis is the drummer
I saw him play with another group and HOLY FK! Just an incredible tallent...
I saw the documentary about this session.. Larnell hadn't heard, played or rehearsed any of the tunes in this session and only arrived in Europe the morning of this session... totally blind.
Sick!
You know he showed up the day of recording not having rehearsed with the band at all and did what he did. Larnell is just different
Yeah basically waht geoff said
Not totally blind... he did listen to the tracks on the flight over
The one and only, Larnell.
This band is so tight, if you put a lump of coal in the room by the end of the set it would be a diamond.
Ok Ferris.
Larnell was called in last minute to perform with SP. He had to learn most of the songs on the flight to Amsterdam. He only rehearsed a for a few hours before these sessions. The man is a freak of talent.
It takes extreme confidence and balls of steel to accept a gig like that. Incredible pressure. BTW - I heard that they use Larnell to calibrate metronomes.
@@alabamacoastie6924 you can see his immensity throughout. He’s a machine- so dialed in.
Cory Henry was reading notes from the sky
Absolutely!!
I am so happy....all of you musicians were BORN, I really do. I love you guy's parents, for birthing such amazing musician specialists into this mundane world of hell. Life became tolerable from just experiencing this intricate musicianship and master class contribution. I don't understand why music does to the brain and spirit as it does. But I NEED it and can't balance out my life without it. It's another language another form of LOVING someone if thee creators want it to be. For my mental health.....please stay safe and healthy.
Probably one of my favorite comments to date, may happiness and prosperity come you way fam! Much love✊🏾
New lingus reaction =instant click
Wowzers! I had never heard of Snarky Puppy or your channel prior to today. It just popped into my feed. These guys are super tight. I'm blown away by the time changes, the horn section, the textures that they're experimenting with, and the contrast of big/loud vs minimal/quiet.
I also appreciate your reaction, as there are many "Producer reacts..." type of channels where it's apparent that the "producer" has a very limited understanding of music theory and composition.
Nice work.
I strongly suggest you watch all the original videos before getting into the reaction stuff. This 'We Like It Here' stuff is all borderline miraculous and a great deal better for not having senseless twaddle being spouted all over the place
@@PaulMcCaffreyfmac I absolutely agree. When I want to listen to music, I go right to the source, and listen to it unfiltered.
In most cases, I know every piece of music that "reaction channels" react to. In that sense, it's fun to watch somebody hear a masterpiece for the first time.
In this case, however, the video popped into my feed and started playing while I was busy working. I stopped working after hearing the music, and started watching. Then I went and searched them out, and went down a rabbit hole.
@@james_d_eaton It's a great rabbit hole. Enjoy!
@@james_d_eaton heyyyyy. I worked with one of their arts magnets schools peers, who turned me on to them…. And Dirty Loops. (Also sick).
They are performing here again in TX in a couple weeks.
Larnell Lewis is the drummer! You should check out his Zildjan Live performance, shit is mind-bending
Yes that’s where I saw him just couldn’t get his name 🔥🙏🏿🙏🏿
YES! That whole Zildjian Live series itself is insane!
I've watched a bunch of reaction videos to this tune, and so far nobody's picked up on the sax and trumpet ode to the Brecker Brothers with the chorus on the sax and wah on the trumpet. Gotta research the OGs. Start with Some Skunk Funk by Randy and Michael Brecker.
Will do bro, yea that was some next level stuff right there🔥
I love two versions of Skunk Funk:
The first is at the North Sea Festival 1980: ua-cam.com/video/aePPKGxqOf8/v-deo.html (Michael Brecker completely fucked his part but great bass and drum solos here)
The second is in Barcelona 1992: ua-cam.com/video/UIGsSLCoIhM/v-deo.html (Outstanding solo from Michael Brecker)
Billy Cobham - Crosswinds
Larnell Lewis and he learned the music on the flight on the way to recording this album. Amazing drummer.
You should catch the Collab between Snarky Puppy & Lalah Hathaway... that will blow your mind , Lalah's Chops and Snarky Puppy's groove will have you mesmerized !
The original drummer had visa issues and couldn't make the performance, so Larnell stood in and learned all the songs on the flight to the Netherlands. UNBELIEVABLE, but true.♥️
Larnell and Cory.. cuz that keyboard solo.. just wow. But Larnell too.. amazing performance all.
It should be noted this band started at N. Texas State, a mecca for jazz musicians for decades. Everyone playing an instrument in that room are consumate examples of their craft. I would also give a special shout out to Nate Worth, the percussionist and quite possibly most underrated member of this group.
Mad props must also be given to the production crew who clearly documented lightning in a bottle by filming this and getting wireless headphones to each audience member, who are getting a direct feed from the main board.
If you want to watch Larnell Lewis play entirely out of his mind, check out “What About Me” from this album.
North Texas crew, makes sense why they are so good.
You are the first reactor to bring up time signature. Thank you
Yessir 💪🏾🙏🏿💯
“You know the vibez!!” 🔥
Larnell Lewis was a last call addition to this recording session in Utrecht, Netherlands and he learnt most of the set on the flight over from the US. This included.
1:45 "Wait, I see what they're doing.. they're STACKING it."
Larnell's stack snare hits.
check out familly dinner from snarky puppy
Larnell Lewis, of Toronto, is the drummer here
The story on this session is crazy- Larnell was a sit-in and legit learned the music **on the flight to Europe**
Mega
every music producer understands this fill part 3:42
When they filmed and recorded this session - what an amazing piece of time.
Largely Lewis has his own UA-cam channel and plays full songs after hearing them ONCE
Off the chain! I'm so happy to hear young musicians who can play and arrange their asses off!
From a non musician, this is one of the most insightful reactions I've seen.
Thank Buddha. I thought you were going to go the whole video without giving props to the drummer. It took 'til 9:11 but you got there. Larnell Lewis is a machine with a heart.
Shaun Martin was a whole reaction. 😂
The best arrangement of jazz, artists and performances
Corey makes me love synths like no one else!
came for the bold thumbnail, stayed for the nice reaction
I've listened to this a million times and I've only just realized it's in 5. Every other time I've listened I just groove too hard to notice
I was just thinking, it’s one of the few times 5/4 sounds so natural and like it’s not in 5 if that makes sense
@@x0x0skiller2 probably, on top of interesting placement of accents, this happens because the horn section at the beginning starts on 5th beat, playing it like if it's a 1st beat, giving a shift effect to the whole thing
You didn't get to the best bit, the crescendo as the theme returns and Cory starts playing over the wind and strings.
Hey hey @Keith Classiq Larnel was a last-minute find for this gig and learned the songs ON THE TRANSATLANTIC FLIGHT to holland, where this took place. He had never played any of these numbers before✨💜✨
Take a look at Shofukan, from the same session xx
Yea He's a beast!
@Joseph Fedrizzi "Recorded and filmed live (free of overdubs) from October 7-10 at Kytopia Studios in Utrecht, the Netherlands, for GroundUP Music." ua-cam.com/video/L_XJ_s5IsQc/v-deo.html
Larnell Lewis is probably the greatest drummer I’ve ever seen.
That keyboard solo owes a little bit to Herbie Hancock.
Mike killing it on that Bass looking like Lil Dicky aka David Andrew Burd
larnell learned this on the way to the venue! hes a beast
Yes, his playing level is topping out the meter.
DEM DRUMS!!!! holy shit
Drummers name is Larnell Lewis
also check the short doc on snarky puppy on youtube. Its wild. They got this drummer on a whim and the guy learned the whole album on a plane trip to record an album and do this shit
This is " What if John Coltrane was a keyboard and organ player"
Corey reminds me so much of Bernie Worrell with this solo
I've watched this too many times to count and now I'm watching people react to it. It's sickeness to the nth degree. THere's just no way this is possible. 256 people in the band and nobody's reading sheet music, for chrissakes. Too tight to mention...
The Larnell Lewis
Larnell Lewis from Canada!
Larnell Lewis he is Incredible
You should check out "The Main Squeeze" cover of Redbone or Have a Cigar. They are pretty amazing.
Yeeeeah, Larnell is the best!!!
Larnell Lewis. Probably smoothest technical drummer on the planet
Yo Keith,
You better call the fire department because Cory is about to burn the joint down.
Uncle Le😎
For suuure 💯💯
Skipped the call and response between the horns and keys, one of the best parts of the song.
Somebody had better call the Fire Department because Cory is about to burn the joint down. Hurry! LOL!
Leo de los Reyes
Percussionist/Drummer
Did you speed their video up by like 10%? I don't remember them playing so rushed 😂 (if I'm right about this, then I heard this song way too often...)
Yall watching grammy awarded musicians….
Other instrument players can be good and have great solos, but if you have a great drummer it just changes everything.
Larnell Lewis and Cory Henry
Larnell is that dude...
You are a producer, you will like Jacob Collier, especially his Logic session breakdowns.
100%! I actually have a few reactions to his music, He’s an absolute BEAST!
Please react to "Cory Henry & Yoran Vroom - Heart at Midnight (live @Bimhuis Amsterdam)" . I have to listen to it at lesat three timess every time i put it on. It is sublime.
Cory Henry was too good the video pause itself
😂😂 for real, malfunctioned
Poor keyboard stand. 😢
7:18 ????
I hear alot of Mezzoforte in their music
You gotta check out Jacob Colliers collab with them “Don’t You Know”. They all zone its so crazy, and Jacob is a chord lovers dream on that track. Cheers!🙏
For sure I will do that, thanks for this🙏🏿
For sure I will do that, thanks for this🙏🏿
Welcome to 2014.
Timing is crazy? It’s regular 5/4 in the beginning and regular 4/4 at the end.
Timing was nuts, love the “not the norm” approach to music💎
@@keithclassiq If you love “not the norm”, I highly recommend “Close to the Edge” by and English band called Yes, from 1972. It has varied rhythms, sweet beauty, dissonant chaos, and a breathtaking climax, all in one song.
If that’s what you dig, then you should check out Snarky’s earlier works, pre-2010. Much more complex and innovative. They have since gone for more of an “approachable” sound, which has added much to their success without sacrificing the elite musicianship.
Timing has nothing to do with the time signature though...
LARNELL LEWIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol @ Corey Henry comment
The white guy in front of Larnell's kit and his lack of timing must have been difficult to have in sight...like an audience that insists on clapping but not in time to the song.
Come on, some dude with no rhythm in the audience isn't going to throw Larnell off. That man is unshakeable.
Try with the aristocrats
Larnell is the best studio drummer alive. Maybe the best drummer alive no cap.
I earnestly suggest you listen to Drift-Lab JAPANESE EXPERIMENT.
The timing is 5/4
If the percussionist is not playing latin percussion or cowbells its really hard to know what he's playing lol
Of course it's Jazz
Lar nell Lewis
7:20 pause
😂🤣
Man Larnell destroyed this. But I would love to hear what JD Beck would do with it
Broooo 💯💯 I did a reaction on JD and Domi too so I’m HERE with you💪🏾
Thats a whole bunch of Caucasian's Viben out of time 🤣
Sheeesh... when did Mayweather become such a gifted keys player?
This is was ok - until the break in the middle peddling digital goods. So now I'll never get to your reaction to the take-off. "I have a special".. Yeah, you and everyone else. Bad vibes man, bad vibes.
For sure fam, appreciate your POV, be safe🙏🏿
@@keithclassiq Thanks for replying. I enjoyed everything else you did. :)
Appreciate you Peter, thanks for watching the content, I’m trying some ideas bro, some stuff works others not so much, thanks again 🤙
Confess that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, and you will be saved..Be baptized and repent of your sins. Repent simply means to turn away from your sins. God loves you and so do I.
Clickbait
Honestly, I dont see what the big deal is...
I'm sure the keyboard guy is doing some super clever shit, but to me it sounds like a 4 year old playing with their elbows.
I would love to see your keyboard work... Please share your work with the world..🙄🙄
Larnell Lewis is the drummer
