    I want to thank you for mentioning Intersex People in this context as my son happens to be just that. Intersex people face incredible social hardship to go along with obvious physical and biological challenges. They get little support even from family at times and must struggle hard with government for basic civil rights.

    Wait, you're an sjw but criticizing other sjws? No! No that's impossible! People in this arbitrary group I made up can't disagree with each other or have discussions of what works in their movement and what doesn't! That would mean I'd actually have to work on pwning sjws! No, sjwism is really falling apart! See? I win! I don't even need to work on debunking you because you can do it yourself, even though I have dedicated my entire channel to debunking sjwism, which totally isn't me projecting my intellectual failings...please think I'm rational guys.

      "SJW"s are identitarian liberals. Libertarian socialists want equality via a working class takeover and an end to harmful hierarchies. We aren't identitarian and for the most part don't go "you can't talk because you're a CIS WHITE MALE REEEE" or anything like that.

    I've got a statement and a question for folks here regarding trans policy: Conservatives tend to bring up people abusing trans-friendly laws to commit vile acts. Trans Rights advocates tend to refute this concern with "Trans people just want to be accepted as the gender they are, not commit vile acts." Oftentimes conservatives actually mean "People [who may or may not be trans] will be able to abuse these laws to get away with terrible things. I am concerned with this unintended consequence."
    What refutation or solution do trans rights advocates have to alleviate this concern (Bad people, trans or not, can and presumably will abuse laws which are intended to accommodate)? Why is the general response to talk past the concern rather than address it directly?

    how can we address the issue where multiple orders of a hierarchy play a role.?
    should we tackle them individually or simultaneously?

  • @llamamall3653
    @llamamall3653 7 років тому +25

    I don't think radical feminism is mutually exclusive to anarcha-feminism. Obviously things like swerfism and terfism are, but there are radical feminists who are neither swerfs nor terfs, and some of them are anarchists. I'd consider myself to be one of them.
    As for "kink shamers", I don't think people are saying that bdsm is inherently about power over women. However, surveys suggest that the majority of heterosexual couples that practice bdsm have women being submissive and men being dominant. In this context, it is largely dominance over women, and when it is the other way around, it tends to be the case that men are dominated by being emasculated. I want to stress that I do not wish to shame anyone for their kink unless they are using it as an excuse to be abusive, but rather that there are legitimate critiques of bdsm that people can make from an anarcha-feminist standpoint.
    And people can be conditioned to enjoy abuse and consent to it. People in abusive relationships often accept their abuse because of the way that abusers manipulate them. I'm not saying that all relationships involving bdsm are abusive, rather that abusive relationships provide an example of mitigating circumstances that make consent invalid. Something being consensual doesn't make it automatically perfectly fine. There's a huge area between sex being fucking rape and completely okay.
    As for positive feelings, heroin makes people feel good, too. that doesn't mean it's a good idea to do it. I'd like to see evidence that bdsm has positive mental health outcomes for everyone involved.

    • @andrewprice8820
      @andrewprice8820 7 років тому

      Sugarnut Indeed it should if one wants. Like there are feminist strains within Islam and Christianity that have reconciled their religious beliefs with their feminist beliefs. And these are quite consistent with anarchism and socialism too I might add.

    • @andrewprice8820
      @andrewprice8820 7 років тому

      Llamamall You are linking BDSM to an abusive relationship, which again is fundamentally incorrect. And again the heroin comparison is just ridiculous. That stuff destroys you mentally and physically, BDSM does not. You really think these things are comparable? We know the line between sex and rape. It's called consent. Why are you making it more difficult than it is? You take three paragraphs to say nothing at all.

    • @llamamall3653
      @llamamall3653 7 років тому +5

      Andrew Price I'm not saying they're the same. I'm saying that consent doesn't make something non-abusive.
      I'm not saying that doing heroin is equivalent to doing bdsm. I'm saying that something feeling good doesn't make it a good idea and using heroin as an example.
      Bdsm can and often does have negative physical and psychological effects. the physical stuff is obvious: things like bondage, beating, and choking can and will hurt people. As for the psychological effects, I have no knowledge of comprehensive studies on this, but I do know some ex-practitioners of bdsm, usually submissives, who have experienced symptoms of post-traumatic stress. It's also useful in conversations like this to be aware of things like sexual sadism disorder, which is an actual mental health issue that the bdsm community tells people is just fine.

    • @andrewprice8820
      @andrewprice8820 7 років тому

      Llamamall Yeah it pretty much does.
      All sexual acts can hurt people. It's very common to come out of a "normal" sexual session with an injury. You should be going in with informed consent. And informed is important there. Same applies here.
      There is evidence that BDSM can be good for your mental health, yes. And since you have the choice and you in fact are in a position of power it's different from abuse. Now I don't know if those people with the PTSD had something go wrong, as is possible, when they were doing the act. Like the partner actually did cross the line of consent. The reason anarcha-feminists are in favour of BDSM for people who choose it is because anarchism is about free association. The moment when it crosses the line to become coercive and hierarchical we have the issue.

    • @llamamall3653
      @llamamall3653 7 років тому +4

      Andrew Price No, it doesn't. are people trapped in abusive relationships who accept their abuse not abused?
      Yes, but bdsm is significantly more dangerous. The fact that "aftercare" is needed for many ways that bdsm is practiced indicates this.
      Can you show me this evidence of bdsm being good for mental health?
      Not every anarcha-feminist is in favor of bdsm.
      The argument that it's only unjustified hierarchy if it's non-consensual is pretty bad. You could say that capitalism is okay if the workers like it. It's effectively the ancap way of looking at hierarchy. The other thing is that you are effectively saying that bdsm is okay because it's not actual rape. thats a false dichotomy. there is a huge area between rape and perfectly okay sex. For an authority to be justified, it has to be proven to actually be good, not just be proven to not be as bad as one of the worst things you can possibly do to someone.

    Yo, Cam! Welcome back! Properly encouraged by your vids, every time - such cogent and impassioned liberatory thought. Just an idea: I've been chatting to a mate of mine who works in disability justice circles as an interpreter for deaf people, and he raised the point of subtitles for videos. Now UA-cam's got an okay-ish subtitle service, but I checked it on this and some pretty odd things arose - my favourite being "a cactus component" instead of "a capitalist component". I was wondering if you'd be willing to transcribe your videos/add subtitles to avail your awesome content to deaf viewers. Also, this is 100% my favourite channel. As soon as I'm employed again, I'm planning to support!

    one more comment ..... I've just been scanning your other vids, but I don't see what I was hoping to find .... do you have a vid critiquing RedPill/ MGTOW/ MRA ideology in the context of Anarchism/ Libertarian Socialism/ whatever? ..... this would provide a vey interesting and important counterbalance to critiques of Feminism ... cheers

    Oh Cam, it is so good to see you back. Anarchopac and Philosophy Lines rarely - if ever - make videos anymore, and you were absent for quite some time too, leaving me to wait patiently for Badmouse or Mr The Dick to make something new! What is a (almost) middle-aged anarchist to do?

      I looked, and there have been videos far more recently than I thought. I haven't gotten notifications, and when I check, it always says "no recent activity." I guess I was ........ I was .......I w-w-w-w-w-w-wasssss.......I WAS WRONG! The rest of my comment stands.

    I'm new to your channel and I've been watching all your previous videos. But right now I'm confused. Is libsocialist anarchist without adjectives?

    • @lolzerd3745
      @lolzerd3745 7 років тому +1

      Not necessarily. Libertarian socialist is an umbrella term for every anti-authoritarian socialist current. Besides Anarchism you also have libertarian Marxism (i.e. anti-leninist etc. Marxism) which is then again divided into other categories.

    Welcome back!
    Great video. I just have a couple of concerns:
    A qualification for "Yes means yes" is that this is the case where the "Yes" is an exercise of personal autonomy. Even a sex-positive feminist can acknowledge that someone may be engaged in an inherently exploitative activity in spite of appearances that they willingly consent. We shouldn't criminalize prostitution, and "free love" is important, but we should acknowledge the practice of commodification of one's body, meaning even self-commodification, as problematic.
    Also, bifurcation of class society and sexism would be a simplistic position. You yourself have said being a feminist is integral to being an anarchist. So, yes, a socialist/communist society must necessarily abolish patriarchy (hence the buzzword "intersectionality"). While there has definitely been sexism in ostensibly "socialist" parties as well as union movements, this has been the case where such movements had not developed to a fundamentally anti-capitalist position and instead were pushing for minimal reforms, or to the extent that capitalist ideology still influenced their perceptions. For example, older union movements pushing for a "breadwinner wage" had obvious sexist connotations, in contrast to those seeking abolition of wage labour altogether. In short, the only time when one can address the issue of class without also tackling sexism seems to be when class isn't addressed critically enough. Patriarchy is an unjustifiable hierarchy rooted in the unjustifiable economic hierarchy of capitalism (and feudalism before it, etc.). Postmodernists have an ideological tendency to "decenter" power in this way, but materially there's a clear center of power benefitting from both sexism and capitalism (not to mention racism, ableism, etc.). The "birth pangs" of capitalism may mean those other isms linger, but as new economic conditions emerge and stabilize, they'll dissipate.
