- Tam & Gary Holm here, we bought a house during the 1 Euro Sale in Sicily. Full disclosure it was more than 1 Euro! Now we're in the midst of renovating the centuries old house (well .. 2... pushed together) in Sambuca di Sicilia, Sicily, Italy. Top to bottom renovation. Literally starting at the top and working down to the old stables on the ground floor. It's a lot of work to renovate from California & definitely slower than America. More on that rooftop to come, and then onto the next floor. #1Eurohouse #sicilia

Love it!... Being Canadian we are currently unable to purchase in Italy but we're hoping to see the ban lifted by the end of this year. In the meantime, we have to live vicariously through people like you (thanks BTW!). I'm wondering how you've found trades to work with. Reasonable rates? materials cost? how difficult and time-consuming is it to get permits? If you're willing to talk about "nuts and bolts" issues in some of your videos it'd be really appreciated. In the meantime, the project looks pretty amazing!
Wow we didn't know there was a ban for Canadians! A quick online search looks like there could be some ways around with a good lawyer. YES we would love to get into nuts and bolts. good idea! We mostly went through word of mouth referrals .. a lot of feet on the ground in town, making friends.

@@MsMarmima Canada has banned foreign buyers from purchasing in Canada as an attempt to thwart offshore residential property speculation in the midst of a white hot property market and housing shortage. Italian law has a tit-for-tat reciprocal policy in its constitution.
What is the total cost for renovations? how long will it take? I like the tiles on the terrace and would pick a different tile for the bathroom but keeping it uniform will also look good. You can always have fun with the backsplash tiles
Originally we were only going to do minor rehab to the bare necessities and estimated 40,00 US, but we've since tripled that budget due to our growing family and interest in visiting from friends. We decided to spend more and do a full renovation of all parts, put us more in the $125,000 zone.

Did you relocate to sicilia or It’s your second home?
For now, it’s part-time. But a busy part-time. A lot more flying back and forth than anticipated because we just love it but also have to sustain businesses in CA
That is what we are facing as well. We have a small winery in Northern CA and we are winding down towards retirement (we are 60 & 62) and want to live here full time. We have a place in central Tuscany. Modent house in a tiny town that was starting to disappear but now people are buying here. We have been here for 3 weeks working on the house and leave for CA on Sunday. I just want to stay here!
@@TamandGaryHolm Ah, now I understand why you're moving out of the country. You live in Cali. Just kidding. So do I, in SF bay area. I'm thinking about buying a vacay house in Italy and turning into short term rental when I or my family is not using it.

boring question... is there a tap and sink, i can't see on the plan?
There’s a sink and faucet in the kitchen by the stove going in. There’s a sink in the bathroom and also not on the floor plan there’s two hook-ups for water for either plants or a hose to clean. :)
