Happy People - A Year in the Taiga, how to make skis.. ua-cam.com/video/sXdbqa65GhI/v-deo.html And all four parts: ua-cam.com/play/PLbYmI1TlpyY_ndkxwZcUbBRyuED_iN1LX.html
You can purchase synthetic fur or like a fibrous tape to put on "ordinary" skies. This is mainly used for hills and mountains, and you can take it off easily and put it in your bag or pocket for the descend. Very common in Scandinavia.(perhaps not so much in Denmark)
Hi Lars and all in the world-wide SR Team. Special thanks to Mrs SR for the great camera work as always. Thanks to all the team members for all the positive comments. Keep that professional's knife. Your videos are always happy and informative. Greeting from Thailand, Greg
Another great video. I like how some viewers comment, suggesting you use poles. I can see you slapping yourself in the forehead and saying, "Whoa, I never thought of using poles with skis."
Haha, I chuckled at "Representation of an incline". What a philosophical way of saying "mound" indeed. :D Well, actually I chuckled at multiple points, when one of the dogs sunk into the snow that was also funny. Those skis are very handy, I was surprised how little they sunk into the snow even with two people on them. Not going to be able to do that with snowshoes, much less normal skis. A beatiful late winter day you had, thanks for the video!
G'day Lars. They are clearly a fantastic product and very well made mate. We do have snow here up the mountains but as you can imagine, not really any need down here. lol. I just finished editing Part 3 of a camping series i did up the Murray River (6th largest in the World). I show the audience the huge amount of bush tucker we have at our finger tips IF! as you always tell us, you have the right gear in the field. I catch 2 kilos of Shrimp, Yabbie or Cray fish as you call them and point out the huge amounts of fresh water mussels and Kangaroo, Emu and Deer that you can shoot on a daily basis. Ill post this week, i mention the difference between Survival Russia and your awesome channel and us down here. Only difference is your desert is White and Cold, lol. Cheers bro. ATB Moose.
Thanks Lars for showing those beautiful forest skis. Those are quite wider than the equivalent commercial offering here. Here, the commercial makes are made hybrid shape for downhill as well, so they make them narrower and with a side cut, narrowest under the foot, which really reduces the floatation and sort of defeats the purpose. I wish they would make them here nice and wide like your skis, and no side cut like your skis there. In the bush here, we still have the challenge here with blowdown and having to step over it all the time, make tough spinning turns, with bindings that hold the snowshoe on as I step up, over and spin, where I think the snowshoes excel but skis would have to be taken off/on, resulting in sinking. Also hills everywhere (rocks, glacial mounds, debris) when carrying firewood, I can't see gliding downwards holding heavy firewood log without major carnage and pain! Haha! But I sure like the idea of cruising efficiently on the flats and small slopes with those forest skis. On open bush roads here and on non-slushed lakes they would be awesome, much more fun than snowshoes. However usually our lakes here are always slushy somewhere, and the slush comes up flash freezes. The slush becomes a stopper of any ski glide. In winter, its always something to slow a person down. :o)
I have old WWll cross country skis with simpler bindings. They work great. Never needed the fur, myself. Your skis look really good. Have to put them on my wish list. Beautiful houses in the background. Love your upbeat attitude.
Hy Lars! I love your videos. Such a beautiful country. So much snow. We have only a little bit of snow. And after one day, it is away. Thank you very much for your videos! Greatings to your family. Take care Michel
This is the most fun video. Glad you mentioned "Happy people" video. They are awesome, wonderful people in a beautiful land. She thinks the knife looks silly? Wait till she sees herself marching on the back of your skis. No Ninja sledding trails?
Tremendously awesome. The folk in the documentary "Happy People" were nothing short of amazing. They know how to thrive in the face of adversity. Your demonstration was highly enlightening and superbly executed. This month's National Geographic has a brief article on the Evenk people. I have not reviewed it yet. Thanks again.
Then you have never been on a western canne trapline in the USA! Yes the USA has areas where a trapper is truly alone and the nearest town is 80 miles away,
@@RealDuckMaster You are correct Sir, I have not. In my Nanny State, conibear is only allowed under 1 foot of water. I haven't tapped in forty years. and stand ready to be duly rebuked if you are so inclined.
Awesome channel! Hello from the USA. It's so interesting seeing your perspective on survival from Russia. I very much enjoyed your videos. Thank you for doing them in English!
Hello from down under Lars! I really like your videos keep up the good work! in fact i love them so much i just had to set up a patreon just to pledge to you :) always interesting seeing how you get along with the weather in the opposite hemisphere..
Awesome video as always Lars! Those skis look great. I can see how the fully lined version would be great for hunting, keeping you real quiet. That's a good advantage of skis over snowshoes, you can have 2 people using 1 pair in a pinch! Hard to get 2 feet onto 1 snowshoe. ;) Sliding down that hill looked like fun!
Those are definitely awesome. 🤣 Mrs. Survival Russia sounds like something my ole lady would do laugh at me when having something different on that she's not used to lol.
Great video. Nice in-depth view of these "snowshoe skis". For my work I use the modern OAC (Finland), but these wooden ones sure have character. I like the fact that you can use just about any boot in them. Thanks for sharing Lars!
Thanks for making this Lars, I have been using snowshoes all winter and we have about 1 meter of snow here now. I am going to try my hand at making a couple of pairs of these this summer. I watched "happy people" a couple of times now and I just love the way those folks live.
Another great video.I would love to see you do more videos on geo politics and perhaps some videos on what brought you to Russia and or how you met your lovley wife etc etc. Thanks Lars. Matt in oregon USA.
Glad you did this video! I've been watching and waiting for it. Also enjoyed the two person ski version with Mrs Survival Russia at the end! Thank you!
Crap was that today lars must have got Mrs survival russia somthing this year she seemed in a cheerfull mood compared to last womens day when the pink troll had to rescue lars from a collapsed snow shelter
I knew I like you Lars your videos are awesome and very educational. How could I not subscribe to your channel. You share the same name as the drummer in the band Metallica.
Cool & thank you In Northern Canada we have a similar theme more of a snowshoe made of two planks, 2-3 cross pieces, and a foot hole & bindings like in a traditional snowshoe, big design difference is the hide. Also thanks for the mention of the moose shine gunna go get me one.
Awesome Lars, I keep debating on getting a pair as well. The rescue for sure is something you could never do on snowshoes. Yes the sales will be coming up soon, but still thinking of making and shaping my own, we make canoe paddles and have the tools, just would need a fresh piece of spruce to bend, or wet a piece to bend. Great video and have a great weekend Lars. Cheers Fred
Great video, I am currently working up a pair. We dont have spruce thats straight or knot free so I am using ash, the preffered wood for snowshoes here in Michigan, USA
So do you oil or wax or varnish the wood parts? Any protective treatment for the fur part? (I think we know how to protect the leather. The rubber parts probably don't need much, maybe just a UV protective.)
Nice video as always Lars! Those skis look awesome! But their web site could be a bit better. I find it hard to understand how much their products cost - I don't see a price list in English. But I guess I can send them an email and ask! :)
Thanks for the video! I am ordering a pair! I am curious as to why you went with the partial strip of fur rather than full fur? I'm not sure which to get exactly. Thanks! Toby
That is the main factor for me too! I can't justify paying that much more for full fur. Thank you again Lars, you are awesome!! You inspire me to want to put out videos, maybe someday. : ) Stay awesome, Toby Latham from Ely Minnesota
Mad Jack Tramper , ok , but if I was carrying a rifle on skis I would probably have it on a sling and poles in hand. I get what you mean, I would just use poles, and sling my rifle though. For me that would be easier. Look at the Swedish and Norwegians......Scandinavian countries in the biathlon /military etc. the poles play a significant part.

that was awesome survival russia teamwork on those skis
those are awesome hunting skis

I just started supporting survival russia because I really love your videos. Lots of great information. Great video.
I wish about this...
Awesome video! Thanks for the laughs with the dogs!
Lars...thanks for turning me on to 180 sec. Ideas and Gun Gossip(That guy had me laughing so hard I couldn't breathe!). AWESOME!

That was great Lars double powered skis 8:)
Rob from Oregon
Good show I used to ski behind a a car like water skiing with snow skiing always enjoy your views James KCMO
Lars I think a video of you using the non fur ski's and falling would make for great you tube material. Those ski's work great with two people.
Couples ski's, that was awesome! lol :-)
Those are some nice looking skis, and that was cool how you can fit two people on them.
Tremendously awesome. The folk in the documentary "Happy People" were nothing short of amazing. They know how to thrive in the face of adversity.

Great video. Thanks!

always interesting seeing how you get along with the weather in the opposite hemisphere..
Great video, great deep snow skis.. well a good "small" nordic knife is great so keep it and wear it with pride.
You have made an Awesome channel! I always look forward to your videos. You are Awesome. keep up the good work and enjoying what you do. :)
Awesome video as always Lars!

Love your skis. Excited to see the hunter biathlon. Take care.

Great video....it's not the size of your knife but how you use it .....😀
Kurt Holtzen roflmbo you got that right, my own pocket clip knife almost cut off my left index finger, sure glad my triger finger is my right łøł
Great video as always :)
Thank you :) I just returned from a -30 stay in the forest..
I bet one could make some of those out of some old water skis they might find at yard sale, etc.
Thank you, Lars, such a positive video is a good mood booster. Congratulations to your women on the International Women's Day.
Crap was that today lars must have got Mrs survival russia somthing this year she seemed in a cheerfull mood compared to last womens day when the pink troll had to rescue lars from a collapsed snow shelter

Great! & fun video! Excellent to see some of your terrain where you live. Beautiful country
Can you get the entire Survival Russia family onto one set of skis?! Let's find out...
Man, could have used those this winter, I've been up past my knees.
Love your work Lars.
From an avid snowshoe user, those look like they work great. I use a long staff for balance. That may help in the use of the taiga skis.
Heck yeah those are awesome, thanks for sharing Sir 🇺🇸
Fun! Thanks for posting!
Hello Lars I thought you had already done a detailed video on the hunter ski...
Maybe a crokodile Dundee knife?
Crikey!
Great video, I am currently working up a pair. We dont have spruce thats straight or knot free so I am using ash, the preffered wood for snowshoes here in Michigan, USA
Big skis for a big country . . . and a big guy :)

(slope)
Donna C hi Donna are those your remedies, you have posted. Some look very helpful.
Hi Doug, those are a few I've 'favorited' from other channels; they work very well for me.
So do you oil or wax or varnish the wood parts? Any protective treatment for the fur part? (I think we know how to protect the leather. The rubber parts probably don't need much, maybe just a UV protective.)
Thanks Lars,, I have been out a couple of days, time to catch up on Survival Russia !
Thank you. I have been out a couple of days too. Sleeping in the forest a -30 :)
Could you show again the tool for cutting plastic into cord.
nice skis
Great, thanks for the insight.
What would you suggest for alpine topography? Not much flat land around me.
Love your channel and to support you I just watch the whole adds :)
Thank you!! :)
Rishi yup me too.
Sometimes I'll let it repeat 3 or 4 times after the first watch, helps them out I hear.
Hunter's biathlon sounds cool. Do you use .22 LR or something more powerful?
Very good extreme awesomeness!!!!!
Beautiful I was hoping for this video 😊
Lars are they using T-nuts in the skis.
in your opinion would plywood work like pine or aspen
Do you use any kind of poles with the skis? I use poles even with snowshoes and they are a big help
10*
Terrific video!
cool
I could use some help in ordering these. I tried ordering them back in the beginning of fall, but the manufacturer stoped replying to my emails.
The word for bumps in the terrain would be "undulations," not really a common word in English.
That made me laugh when the dog was running down the mound he was like oh shit look out
Would ski poles not help you to navigate?
Nice video as always Lars! Those skis look awesome! But their web site could be a bit better. I find it hard to understand how much their products cost - I don't see a price list in English. But I guess I can send them an email and ask! :)
Классный дядька )))
How does skis like these work uphill? Is it slip and slide or how do you go about it?
It depends on the angle but generally it's not a problem.
What are the dimensions of the skis? They would do well here! Thanks. ~Kitty
Knife too small? How about a shashka? ; p
Thanks for the video! I am ordering a pair! I am curious as to why you went with the partial strip of fur rather than full fur? I'm not sure which to get exactly.
Thanks!
Toby
Thank you. Because of the price tag on fully lined skis :)
That is the main factor for me too! I can't justify paying that much more for full fur. Thank you again Lars, you are awesome!! You inspire me to want to put out videos, maybe someday. : )
Stay awesome,
Toby Latham from Ely Minnesota
More fur equals more grip and control for the hillside but less slide, in the flatlands you want more free slide, so depends on your location.
rob200cm that makes total sense. Thanks for the info!
nice video, is the company that made your skis still in business? I emailed them days ago and had no reply.
They are most likely busy shifting from making skis to boots :)
I think that Lars made that demo with two people on the skis just so he could cha cha chah with an attractive lady!
Funny you posted this just now hahaha its snowing in N.Y. and they are all freeking out calling it a "ThunderSnow" hahahaha less than 2ft of snow.
Ski Poles would be helpful ❣️

A mora classic to small ? Il take it any time over a big clumsy knife.... looks aint gonna do it🔪
ha ha small knife, get a parang; that will show well
And they call that ski spooning lol
I wish about this...
