Lars, I'm a grandma who has been watching your videos for almost a year. My grandson is quite the adventurer. The husband and I have been taking to state and national parks since he was old enough to walk. Your videos are a blessing. You give us ideas all the time. As for your not so nice people...My father taught me to eat raw bacon when I was about 5. I'm 51 now and weigh 137 lbs. You can eat anything you want as long as you are active. God Bless you, and don't let negative people sway you. Your channel is excellant! Don't change because of negativity!
Lynn Kunkel, when you say , "I am a grandma" which I see a lot, that just tells me you are probably at least 30 yrs. old or older. I enjoyed the rest of your post and happy you take your grandson to enjoy the woods. Your lucky he lives closes enough you can enjoy him. a grandpa, but a lot older than 51 :-(
I NEVER get tired of anything you do videos on, even buckwheat! I had never tried buckwheat til you talked about it, now I eat it all the time. ..love your videos, your channel is BY FAR my favorite!
THIS is what a proper survival channel is all about. Emergency rations, home-cured meat, minimalist camping - PLUS it is so unusual to learn ANYTHING about life in Russia. Fantastic channel ... I can't stop watching! Peace and Greetings from the UK.
I'd never had buckwheat until these videos, but now I've come to rely on it and always keep some in my pack when I go out, so you talk about it all you want and I'll keep watching.
That camera with the flashlight is very awesome. It improved those low light shots quite a bit. High levels of awesomeness today with 2 videos. Keep the awesome content coming to keep my daily levels of awesome high. The pink ninja will need her own channel soon when she gets older. Survival Russian Pink Ninja version might be big who knows. Simplicity is always better in the outdoors. Buckwheat people hire this guy to promote your product!
I'm from the USA. I was raised on salt pork/fatback. Buckwheat is delicious. I never had them both together. I bet they would be great together. Thanks for sharing.
Still watching Survival Russia videos, 6 years later. Lars has great information and a refresher about Survival never hurts Edit- realized the last 3 comments are from me, LOL
My wife always used to bring packets of buckwheat back with her when she visited her family near Moscow but now most of the big Spanish supermarket chains sell it. She has introduced me to the porridge (grechnevaya kasha), really good stuff, it's nice to know that survival food can be enjoyable to eat as well as keeping you alive. I really like the cooking in the forest videos, I prefer that to a barbeque in the garden any day.
thank you for introducing me to buckwheat. it's been an amazing add to both the kitchen and the camp kit. i'm glad you talk so much about it, i wouldn't have known if it hadn't been for you. keep being awesome!
Hello my friend from Michigan USA!!! Sad I guess no one has ever heard of salt curred meat's ???!!!!! Thanks much for everything you do for us all. Blessings 😇🇺🇸
UA-cam had just recommended your video about being in the woods with you wife & 19 month old. It awesome to see you out with the whole family!! WOW! How the ninja has grown!!!
Thanks again for your great videos. My mouth was actually watering while watching your meal cook...I plan to make some salted meat this year. Awesome Lars!
Meal for a king out in the field, looks awesome, I bet it tastes super. Onions, garlic with salted meat in stew with the buck wheat is perfect combination. Great video Lars, you make me hungry ha ha, time for me to eat some bacon freshly cooked just now and watch your next video on my list.
Thanks really enjoyed watching I appreciate you for taking your time to share keep up with the wonderful videos wish you and your family all the best until next time my friend happy holidays
HA HA HA! I love buckwheat! I take it to work for lunch and my friend complains! He hates it! He says he had to eat it in the army every day!! I LOVE it! I can have it every day! I agree its a SUPER food!
The spiral worm is known as trichanosis worms. The best way to avoid it is either use commercial grown pork or the other way is wait for a few hard freezes before going boar hunting. The sick hogs tend to not be able to survive the cold and die off. This rule works well for rabbits as well for toluremia.
Lars, thanks for all you post on UA-cam . . . The toasted buckwheat groats real got me interested in its nutritional value & the diverse ways to prepare it for meals. I ordered thru Amazon, Russian roasted buckwheat groats (Russo Pole Buckwheat, 1500g/53oz). First meal was awesome, a breakfast concoction of prepared buckwheat & bacon pieces, with added blueberries & maple syrup to finish ☺ Thank you from: Central Minnesota, USA
Can listen to you talk about buckwheat all day! :-) You've got me onto it and its awesome! We can only get straight raw buckwheat where i live, but its great all the same. Your drink bottle there, i've got exactly the same one. I fastened a stainless steel hose clip around the throat of mine and in my bottle pouch i always have some stainless steel wire so if required i can hang the bottle from the clip over a fire for boiling water. The wire can also be used for a snare if required. Just another boiling option if its easier in the field to hang the bottle than try and ballance it off to the side. The hose clip is exactly the same stainless as the bottle too so it doesn't react or rust etc...
As silly as it sounds, your suggestion to keep a bag inside your mess kit to transfer all the other items inside to when in use is a great one! It's such a simple idea I never thought of it. Nowadays my German (Austrian?) mess kit houses a bag of buckwheat, a bag of tea bags, hot cocoa mix, a towel, and a bottle of dish soap. However, I usually just wind up cooking stuff or boiling water in my Swedish mess kit because it only houses the Trangia stove and a alcohol bottle. (When I'm camping out of my truck) I need to be on the lookout for a nice cloth bag... I don't know why, but tea tastes a lot better in the woods than it does at home.
Survival Russia: Great Video as usual! Simple fire build, meal prep and clothing. "Old school" simplicity! This generation should pay attention!!! The "reality" of your methods are a breath of "fresh air" to all the phony yuppy cr*p here on UA-cam. Thank You!!!!!!
I really like your videos, its the most reality that a have find in internet. Ofcourse there are others real reality too, but i like the way you explain and maybe the way it remainds about living out in the country the old ways. Sorry for the not best writing in english. Regards: Pete from Finland.
definitely gonna try the salted pork soon! Actually tried and have been incorporating buckwheat (got a bag of Russian brand) into a regular diet and it is awesome. It's very versatile to use as you may use a rice, or I've added it to soups! Thank you for sharing and keep talking about the buckwheat! Take care -David
Looks good! I'm going to have to see if they sell Buckwheat around here.......they used to make a "Buckwheats" Cereal I really liked, but I haven't seen it in many years. Then there was "Our Gang".........Buckwheat was one of the best...Stymie too!
Roasted buckwheat and our skinny Canadian bacon are on the menu for the next campfire. Can't pass up trying it in 15" of snow with my favorite saw, the Pocket Boy. Cheers
I'm scouting out the trail, but it's really difficult, Maybe there's too much snow already. There are also big patches of ice under the snow in some places. We will see :)
Another awesome video! That light on the camera looks like it works well. I now have several Swiss and Swedish mess kits for my packs. Over the summer, I tried the buckwheat, dried veggies and various meats on several camp outings. Big fan of these buckwheat meals now! Might have to try curing some pork based in your recent videos.
Looking like winter there now Lars, we have grass showing today but that might change this week, it is 3c today and calling for 19mm of rain tomorrow the snow on Tuesday and -18c at night. I liked the meal. I carry buck with with me and some canned pork as well always and maybe some spices to add. As well as dehydrated onion. Glad I could get my Survival Russia fix for the weekend, have a great week ahead my friend Lars. I use buckwhet as I have high gluten intolerance. Cheers
Oh yes, forgot to mention, I cook it on a propane stove. I have found it cooks quicker if soaked in water for a few hours, although I am not sure if this is a good idea for field rations as it may not keep long. Although in winter it should be OK as it would freeze?
You can actually let it soak for 4-6 hrs, depending on conditions, and it will be ready to eat without cooking. Less taste though. Anyway, the boil time is 10-12 min on a low/medium boil with lid on :) I just carry mine in a bag and boil when needed.
remember you can eat the inner bark of birch bark and pine bark it contains plenty of calories to keen you going eat raw, boiled, dried and crushed made into flat breads , roast too and I'm pretty sure you have plenty of birch and pine trees in Russia
You can, but it's only something you can use for stretching your existing supplies with. Inner bark is not enough for extended periods of time. Somewhere I have pics of Russian villagers who lived off inner bark in the forest during WW2. Not a pretty sight for sure.
"I forget what it is called but you know what I mean" . . . scary but most of the time I do!! Your channel is great and the you are the first one I check for new videos from my subscription list no matter where UA-cam puts you on it. Thank You for sharing! I did that thing at the end of the video, I forget what it is but you know what I mean. ;>)
Ha there young man just kicking back watching and enjoying you latest saw and cooking video and having some coffee with a very nice Rum stollen kicking of the month of December the correct way . Happy Trails I have had very little buck wheat in my 74 years but enough Oat Meal to sink battle ship . Happy Trails .
Hi Lars. I remember when I was a kid and we went to Boone, Iowa for a family reunion breakfast in a big state park shelter house. For some reason, on the menu was buckwheat pancakes. I never heard of buckwheat, or buckwheat pancakes, and certainly never tasted them before. I have to say it was a revelation. Not really like the first time I remember having chocolate brownies or strawberry shortcake, but maybe say like having good baked beans or similar. Anyway, I ate a ton for a little kid. So 50+ years or so passes by, and I decided I had a hankering to try some buckwheat pancakes again. I was too lazy to find some and make them myself, so I started looking around at local restaurants. Do you know what, Lars? There's only one place in a town of 160,000 people where a person can get buckwheat pancakes, and they come with blueberries inside, and they will set you back $20 for a plateful. WTF?! They were still as delicious as when I was a little kid, though.
I really need to look for buckwheat in my little town. Sounds like good stuff to take in the forest, instead of my Pilot Biscuits alone. I usually have a can of Spam, (pig meat), in my bag as well, but it's a pain at -30 to -40. Everything freezes. Great tips, as always. Take care.
Yeah, finally a buckwheat video again😍 I love it too and thats definitely what you wanna eat in a survival/ emergency situtation! Not any stupid expensive energy bars like other "survivallists"😅 Cool video, as always! Greetings, GR🤘
Great video with good lighting. It looks like a very nice day out in the woods. I was wondering, could a simple led headlamp be usefull as a video light if you have cameras without a video light? You can attach the headlamp to the side of the cameras with some velvro. Even at daylight, when you have a backlit scene, a lightsource will improve the lighting considerably.
I have never heard of buck wheat till I found your channel Lars, I found some roasted buck wheat at the local shop which specialists in European food, lots of memories from when i was a kid, anyway I found buck wheat an interesting taste not bland, but it goes go well with pork meat, goulash and packet soup. I say buck wheat is more of a filler food which gives you more protein when added to other tastier food than just eating it by its self even though it can be. Nice video.
Fat-wood, meaning wood from pine branches with a lot of resin in them. The ends of the dead branches close to the tree trunk normally contains a good amount of resin.
It is funny, that even though one knows it, that you UA-cam channel presenters are talking to cameras, one can almost forget it, when seeing the videos. It sort of feels, like maybe not a Skype conversation, but slightly in that direction. Then when one see a video, with two UA-camrs together, talking to their respective cameras, and you see the other one doing it on the footage actually, it stands clear in a more specific way, that OHH yes. That is how it really looks like. Just a person talking to a camera. That is how I feel about it at least, but nice cooking in the snow. Snow is always nice, and the buckwheat goes along when cooking, :o)
Sir, I you cooking raw or toasted buckwheat ? I am guessing it is raw ? I have not eaten it, I have grown it for years as a green manure in my garden and then till it in after it has bloomed. I just wish I there was a way I could could process it myself.
Buckwheat is good but I like to carry millet. It has a much warmer and more buttery taste all on it's own and is comparable to buckwheat in nutrition. It goes super super well with any meat.
Lars, I'm a grandma who has been watching your videos for almost a year. My grandson is quite the adventurer. The camera with the light works great. Now we can have candlelight suppers in the woods with you.
It's freezing, I have meager rations and look how much fun it is. I love Lars' videos!
I don`t get tired of you rambling about buckwheat and salted meat. It can`t be stressed enough how healthy buckwheat is for you. nice video
I wonder why they don't sell it here. I don't think they do.
You probably will not find it in a regular grocery store but you can get it at the bulk barn or at a health food store
Buck wheat and salt pork...Breakfast of Champions...looks good here...thanks Lars...stay warm
"it's not very cold today, about zero degrees"
I love it.
I'm happy to see your videos are getting longer. Awesome stuff & stuff!

buckweat with canned stew (tushenka) is one of my favorite meals, it's extremely simple to cook, and it's absolutely delicious!
Awesome camp fire and succulent food, two ideal ingredients for a cold day. Take care...

Great job Lars, I love these old time food prep videos. I watched noyhnyour salted meat videos, enjoyed them both, much old time knowledge here. 👍❤️🇨🇦
UA-cam had just recommended your video about being in the woods with you wife & 19 month old. It awesome to see you out with the whole family!! WOW! How the ninja has grown!!!
They keep suggesting it to me too. Even if I have watched the video.
Another great video! Keep talking about Buckwheat. I tried it and you're right, it's "awesome".
All your videos are good, but this one was even better. I'm not sure why, but thanks for making it!

Lars, thanks. That smoke was making my eyes water. Good video, good information. Now I need to find my mess kit. Best
For the holidays we have a lamb ribs cured in rock salt. Very tasty. Great video.

Mniam mniam mniam. Magic in simple meal.
The buckwheat channel love it.
This is where I miss my webbing ...ammo , water , first aid , cooking kit and food
Buckwheat is delicious. It also sprouts easily, less than 2 days. As a sprouted grain it is even more nutritious.
definitely gonna try the salted pork soon! Actually tried and have been incorporating buckwheat (got a bag of Russian brand) into a regular diet and it is awesome. I love buckwheat. Kasha for the win! Great videos my friend. I love them.
I just got a Soviet mess kit and this looks like a good something awesome to do with it. Thanks for sharing!
Great Winter Survival Cooking.
Hey Lars, I have bought and tried the Buckwheat. It is as you say, "awesome"!! Not tired of the videos by a long stretch.

Looks like a good meal!
You're thinking about driving the SRV out in the forest? That'd be a neat video to see!
I'm scouting out the trail, but it's really difficult, Maybe there's too much snow already. There are also big patches of ice under the snow in some places. We will see :)
Survival Russia
Oh ok, oh well.
If the SRV can't get there, a video on using your new skis instead would be great!
Survival Russia
Take a Silky saw with you in the SRV. That way, if you get stuck, you can make a flip-flop winch!
No worries about buckwheat. Its now my son's favorite.
No supper soup Lars? I can't believe it. As always love your work my man.
Another awesome video! That light on the camera looks like it works well. I now have several Swiss and Swedish mess kits for my packs. Hey my friend you got me started on the Buckwheat nuts...awesome staple....thanks my friend!
My pleasure buddy :)
I like how the meat is pre spiced, and should make a nice broth . another nice one from the buckwheat Bandit.
remember you can eat the inner bark of birch bark and pine bark
it contains plenty of calories to keen you going
eat raw, boiled, dried and crushed made into flat breads , roast too
and I'm pretty sure you have plenty of birch and pine trees in Russia
You can, but it's only something you can use for stretching your existing supplies with. Inner bark is not enough for extended periods of time. Somewhere I have pics of Russian villagers who lived off inner bark in the forest during WW2. Not a pretty sight for sure.

Definitely would like to try.👍👊🤘
How long will the pork last? I enjoyed the other videos of you making it and was thinking of trying it myself.

Fat does not make you fat ....sugar and raised insulin levels makes you fat ...healthy fats are a premium fuel for the body
Welcome to the Survival Buckwheat Channel. Don't forget to sub-like, sub-scrib get out and cook buckwheat!
PS use pig meat too.
Redlock
I totally read that with Lars' voice in my head. Lol.
OKBushcraft
That's awesome LOL!
Take care.
Yeah, finally a buckwheat video again😍
I love it too and thats definitely what you wanna eat in a survival/ emergency situtation!
Not any stupid expensive energy bars like other "survivallists"😅
Cool video, as always!
Greetings, GR🤘
11.15 look at that scene. You're a fortunate guy Lars
I enjoyed the buckwheat and beef entree in the IRP that i recently ate, it was all quite good and I bought more to have on hand ^^
Can you salt lamb or just the pork
Great video with good lighting. It looks like a very nice day out in the woods. I was wondering, could a simple led headlamp be usefull as a video light if you have cameras without a video light? What's a good alternative to birch bark if you have no birch in your area?
Fat-wood, meaning wood from pine branches with a lot of resin in them. The ends of the dead branches close to the tree trunk normally contains a good amount of resin.
The liquid sap from the blisters on the trunk of a fir tree is said to make a decent firestarter; haven't tried it myself though.
Thanks for sharing 😊
Heat coming up from the south. 32°F = NOT AWESOME... LMAO appreciate you sir!
What do you mean "too mush buckwheat"?? There's never too much of buckwheat :)
I may just have some tomorrow on my hike.
Another awesome video!
Buckwheat! Got to try that now!

-10C here and snowing like crazy ... lunch is buckwheat and soup mix ... Lars style! :)
Buckwheat is awesome! :D
Buckwheat is good but I like to carry millet. It has a much warmer and more buttery taste all on it's own and is comparable to buckwheat in nutrition. It goes super super well with any meat.
Absolute awesomenes! Grüsse aus Germanien!
I use walnuts. Cheap in the USA and can fuel u all day on just a few ounces.
Another great video! Next time put that meat in the pan and let it fry,it will be nice slab bacon.
