Wow. Well, where to start? You sing and play well, that's obvious. But to sing and play well simultaneously, that's double-tough. The way you hold the note over the picked notes of the riff is very impressive. Super solid, not pitchy in the least. Guitar is very smooth, your right wrist is relaxed and flowing. Lead break is sharp enough to cut you. Well done, indeed. Thank you for sharing.

Love most of your other covers, Mister Mister, Tom Petty, etc. The guitar work on this, is, as always, awesome. Vocally, your performance felt too smooth to truly capture the "edge" and range and emotion the Kansas studio original vocal had, with "good" Steve Walsh. You as a technician could of course break it down and explain it far better than my feeble attempt. Now, Steve Walsh vocals in concert often tended to be sloppy and random, without the edge and emotion of the studio version. (I preferred the one John Elefantis concert vocal I saw over most of Steve Walsh's live vocals) I get the sense this song, Kansas's version, really relied on the group's remarkable vocal harmonies and also their backing vocals, for a lot of its "edge" so that the lead singer didn't have to work quite so hard, similar to how you explained Queen's backing vocals supporting Freddie Mercury at that remarkable Live Aid performance. I saw that you did a breakdown of the live version of this Wayward Son song, with Steve Walsh on vocals. Perhaps my comments are unfair and what was really needed was the backing vocals and harmonies of the non-Walsh members of Kansas to support your performance. In any case, please keep up your amazing work and don't let any one random nutjob critic (like me) on the Internet dissuade you from bringing that amazing energy and quality you bring to all your work!

Great job Fil. Met Kansas at studio in the country when they were recording this album. My band was recording at the same time. Then in the early 80's met them again at little apple records in Manhattan Kansas. My next band was there recording at the same time. Those Topeka boys are kewl. Rock.

I had dinner a couple of times with Robbie Steinhardt and his then wife decades ago. Only because he knew my boyfriend. They were on the wild side and I was a straight-laced Catholic girl. I had immense respect for his training and talent on the violin. This song is awesome, but Dust in the Wind will always be one of my most favorite songs. You are so talented and I appreciate the knowledge you impart and the talent you share.

Nice job Fil! If you get a chance, try to find some footage of KANSAS live, from the 70's or 80's. The lead singer & keyboard player, Steve Walsh, used to get so worked up, he would do newsstands on his keyboard in the middle of a live song! My mother lives in a suburb of Chicago called Arlington Heights. One year, I was surprised to learn that Kansas was playing before the fireworks on (no offense mate) Independence (from England) day. I got there early and found the Winnebago they were staying in. When the gigantic guitar player (he must be nearly 7 ft. tall & 400lbs!) Stepped out of the vehicle, I waved at him, but got no response. Perhaps he was focused on the show & had his "game face" on. Perhaps he did not see me. He is missing an eye and wears a patch over it. I have been in the hospital or rehabilitation center for three years. When I get out, I am enrolling in The Desert Plaines School of Music's Jazz Guitar program. I am buying an Ibanez semi hollow
body in "green valley gradation finish. Take care!🙂

@Batphink Reynolds - I've also heard that from several ppl who have been on those kinds of shows . I didnt know WOP here was too, is there video of that we can see on You Tube? I have another friend on YT - DOVYDAS - originally from Lithuania, same situation. Extremely talented person , (does improv live looping plus also in few bands) but doing it his own way here thru YT. Check out his stuff on here if you like. Incredibly talented and humble person. Now he has , I believe over 300k subs (that's about what the all time greats, Def Leppard have, that's amazing!!!) So, I too would say be careful with those entities, talent shows, record labels, etc. (Let us never forget what Michael Jackson, one of my all time favs, RIP, went thru with Sony!) WINGS OF PEGASUS - you appear very gifted. I am very glad I came across your page! If you can, and that's your desire, try to pave your own way. I think in the long run, perhaps you will be happier!
