Mark Boughton, the former mayor of Danbury, Connecticut, is genuinely hilarious. He's also respected by both parties for being very effective and bipartisan.
Seeing how this is the state of American politics, it honestly, truly, genuinely amazes me that America as a nation still exists and hasn't just straight up imploded.
Here's the context for the John Oliver one because it's hilarious: Yes, the sewage plant in Danbury is actually called that. Danbury had to reconstruct their plant due to an order from the state's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection because Danbury's sewage system removed 90 percent of phosphorus instead of the 98 percent required. They contested but failed. Construction began for it in 2019. In 2020, Oliver did a jury selection segment and criticized how computer errors in CT's jury selection system caused it to ignore Hartford and New Britain when he suggested it should've ignored Danbury instead. The clip made it seem like the mayor was actually gonna name it after him, but he proceeded to tell the press it was just a joke. Oliver doubled down and said Danbury had their best idea in the city's history and chickened out. He proceeded to offer Danbury $55,000 to local charities as well as $25,000 to the Connecticut Food Bank, in exchange for the plant to be named after him. He threatened to give it to other CT places like Waterbury if they declined. The mayor accepted on the condition that Oliver attended the ribbon-cutting, which he did in October 2020 and said "This place takes the worst that humanity can produce, and transforms it into something that we can live with. @@yetanotherrandomyoutubecha4382 Idk, I have pretty much zero respect for Trump as a person, so any of his funny moments (and there's definitely unintentional ones from him) don't feel as satisfying as when it's Obama. Obama's legacy is the arab spring, refugee crisis, unlimited drone strikes, isis, free money to iran, russia annexing crimea and lots of failed promises. Now we got biden which is as bad for the world but just a less eloquent version. Trump is the only anti establishment candidate.

I think that is the only one that I would love to change. We just need different numbers for different languages, or extensions that they enter beforehand. Or, you get an english speaking person right away, and then can be referred by them to an interpreter. For instance when you call 911 here you're waiting on the menu for at least 2-3 minutes and then maybe get a dispatcher.
@@NEURALDELVER When was the last time you called 911? I had to a couple of months ago, it rang once and they said "What is your emergency?" in English. Interpreters advise learning to say the name of your language in English to get through to them faster.
@@NEURALDELVER That's not how it works. 911 call operators answer automatically and always in English... Maybe if you're calling a random medical office, for a non-emergency situation, they'll have the 3 min waiting ring, an automatic operator with different options, not just the languages list. BUt in that situation, it causes no harm. That commercial was obv just baseless anti-immigrant whining lol
We're living in a timeline where McCain ACTUALLY hosted an episode of SNL...absolutely wild. The reason Gerald Ford says "I'm Gerald Ford, and you're not" is because of SNL. On Nov. 8, 1975, Chevy Chase debuted his impersonation of the bumbling Gerald Ford on the show. The sketch made Ron Nessen (Ford's press secretary) wince, but it also made him reevaluate the possibilities of entertainment to combat this negative image. When Al Franken, then a writer for the show, casually invited the press secretary to guest host during the New Hampshire primary, Nessen considered the offer. Ron Nessen would guest host the April 17, 1976, episode of the show. That March, he and the president tested the waters by inviting Chevy Chase to perform at a White House dinner. And, to the audience’s surprise, the president emerged as the star of the show, reminding the comedian that “I’m Gerald Ford, and you’re not.” Ford relished the free publicity the evening generated and pledged to send Nessen to Chase’s show in return. Along with Nissen, Ford appeared on the show to say the iconic line: "Live from New York, it's Saturday night!"....he would lose that election to Jimmy Carter.
Chevy Chase made fun of him for the rest of his career for stumbling down that staircase once. Biden does it several times and snl takes time out of their show to talk about why that makes biden a hero.
Man I remember the whole Howard Dean yell thing and back then it was a huge deal for some reason and pretty much ended his campaign. Seems so tame looking back on it

I`m from Belarus. I`m just genuinely impressed you have so many major figures in politics with different opinions and also the fact they do not die or dissappear during or after the election. Expressing an opinion and not worrying about your future health is something from the parallel universe

I'm not even a big fan of the dude's presidency, but Obama might be the only president whose funniest moments are completely intentional
Edit- Oh my gosh apparently I have to explain this further, I *know* Obama's foreign policy is terrible, I'm not denying that, I'm just saying he's a very effectively charismatic and likeable politician. *That has nothing to do with presidency*
That's kinda how I feel about Trump. Don't much care for his policies, but I can't deny that he's done some pretty funny shit
@@yetanotherrandomyoutubecha4382 Idk, I have pretty much zero respect for Trump as a person, so any of his funny moments (and there's definitely unintentional ones from him) don't feel as satisfying as when it's Obama. Like there's plenty of stuff I object to with the Obama administration, but he seems like a really cool dude
Obama's legacy is the arab spring, refugee crisis, unlimited drone strikes, isis, free money to iran, russia annexing crimea and lots of failed promises. Now we got biden which is as bad for the world but just a less eloquent version. Trump is the only anti establishment candidate.
@@WiloPolis03Both parties are literally jokes, even Obama 😂 Fuck Liberals and Conservatives 😂😂
@@WiloPolis03 I think that actually contributes to it for me. With Obama, I feel like everything is very measured and calculated, and it's hard to seperate the man from the political project. With Trump, you just know he's an idiot, which gives a layer of absurdity to everything he does. And while he's not genuine, his masquerade is so paper thin that it becomes funny too. idk humor is too subjective to really explain it

Legends say that that phone is still listing off languages to this day...
Some even say it invented a few.

0:36 I have so many questions. Like, why are there normal people doing politics?

Normal people are deeply affected by politics as long as they fit one (1) or more underprivileged minority groups
Normal people would've lost any sanity they have left for lying about everything, constatly.
Thus, most people in the politics, as the survival of the fittest dictates, are a tat bit insane, ignorant, and are experts in lying. 😂
