I miss Rob Ford. I remember I got to meet him at the opening of a new park on Lawrence when I was a young boy. Say what you want about the crack cocaine stuff, but he was a good mayor.
He was a complicated man. He reduced on typical bs like using reducing tax dollar usage from 10000 to 100s for office supplies, councillor limousines, etc. But he also reduced spending on suicide bridge barriers, AIDS prevention services, bike lanes (e.g., Jarvis bike lanes, which cost the city $86,000 to install in 2011, were removed in December 2012 at a cost of $200,000-$300,000 | a street in need of safe lanes for kids going to and from school). He personally responded to citizen concern calls (pretty cool), and removed a car registration tax (also cool), but privatized the garbage west of Yonge Street (drastically reducing oversight and worker pay). Most of his other projects as mayor were halted or never completed.
