If you were forced to participate in an aliens sick game of who lives and who dies, what could you do? In this video on Nerd Explains. I'll tell you how to beat Circle.
I’m going to throw us onto one of the red circles and see how we fare. We don’t have perfect knowledge and we don’t know how this ends, we know what the characters know at the start. Can we beat this situation? Let’s find out.

When everyone wakes up, just start screaming “RUN” as loud and intensely as you can. Everyone starts to run before they even know what’s going on.

Problem is that most people either move away from chaos or towards it depending on their fight or flight instincts. So when the first woman died after the buzzer. Everyone except those who are incredible indecisive should have died, as many would have moved either towards them or away, which would have caused even more to react in a cycle of increased chaos. But, if it was a movie on human reactions, it would only have been a 5 minute movie. I think they could have explained the rules, and still gotten everything from the movie they wanted.

Whoever made this movie is kind of a genius, not because it's like amazing and the premise is amazing but because it was probably relatively cheap to make in comparison to most movies.

The Asian guy found out voting is a thing. He then told the group about this. He could’ve just not said anything, influenced the game and eventually won.

What I don't understand is how only a few people stepped off the platform in the beginning. I reckon if this were real, AT LEAST half those folks would've instinctively moved around. There's no way the whole lot of em could process their situation quick enough to stay still.

Yeah if it is real life like 90% of them would be killed once they woke up confuse and scared.
Especially given that without knowing what's really going on, you'd probably assume it's a 50/50 chance that its either being on the stop that kills you or stepping off the spot, so you'd have to make a choice immediately.

Elio Monaco technically it does as it is the nature of all living things to survive at any cost, and once met with such dire situations humans and animals alike are likely to become more cruel if it ensues a higher survival likeliness. A study such as this doesn’t prove anything and only seeks to draw out the animalistic nature of survival tactics, it’s cruel and doesn’t produce a proper response. Technically , whatever creatures made the game were specifically looking to trigger one response and fulfill their hypothesis rather than experiment
What I mean is that they weren’t looking to do test a hypothesis, they were looking to be right

Shauns death really bummed me out the most. Kid gets pressured into thinking he's a hero by a bunch of manipulative adults and they can't even remember his name when he buys them two minutes

I don't think he was pressured to get killed. He even said he didn't want to kill anybody. To me i think he was tired of seeing people get killed and he knew he would die because he wouldn't kill nobody. But we see older people, smarter making he take that decision.

I mean the chances of getting randomly hit is about 2%, and it’s goes up as more people get killed. But they only do it in the beginning, so it’s pretty low chances

I think one of the most important moves is to never vote someone to die, but to always suggest who not to vote that way you don't get targeted as a bad guy

The biggest difference is these games usually involve one or more "villain(s)" trying to blend in with the "innocent" crowd. While in the Circle game everyone is innocent.

@@haileydionna Roblox game adaptions like this and the maze runner isn't great because most Roblox players play games with their friends or make friends in games, the friend bias obviously happens and thus survival doesn't feel anywhere near as tense as the movie
ik these things cus I grew up making Roblox games and leading Roblox communities and well playing other people's games including the circle 1 and it would always revolve around friends helping each other which destroys the purpose of the movie

My guess as to why the first person wasn’t shocked as opposed to the following two is the filming choice to show her only putting a toe outside her circle and getting a warning buzz. Meanwhile they following two are panicked and confused, and they way they moved implies it was a full step, fully putting their weight into it.
So perhaps it’s some type of weight sensitive security, but with some leeway so they don’t automatically lose more people than they have to.

I play alot of murder mystery games, and mostly the most talkative or too quiet ones get out first. Be present but no too present to where you start to annoy people.

The best way to win, would be the guy who first figures out the invisible voting process, then say nothing. This way you silently eliminate as large of a portion as you can before the next person figures it out. At this point you can predict who will figure it out by watching and listening to who is getting closest to figuring it out, then eliminating them.

The thing that really bothered me about this situation is that the people automatically assumed that the last person would survive. There is no absolute guaranteed of that.
Like the narrator said, it's a Pascal's wager type deal. Either you get voted and die, or survive until the end and maybe survive. One is guaranteed death, the other at least gives you a chance.

You'd have the people who managed to game the system and kill more "deserving people" and the people who had their own circles decide to sacrifice themselves for them left over to compete. We have no idea the voltage of that blast. Whose to say it wouldn't just kill everyone? Imagine you try linking arms and the aliens just dial up the intensity.

You forgot one major aspect that helped the last guy to survive: Charisma.
He looks handsome and pleasant enough for others to subconsciously allow him to stay with them in the group. If he was unattractive he would probably be voted at some point, no matter what.

I think there's a difference between winning and surviving. If you took the "all participant tie" route, one of of two things would happen: either the everyone dies, or everyone goes free. I would argue that in both cases the players win the game since refusing to play either deprives a sadist their entertainment.
Of course, given the ethical/moral component of the game, it's likely everyone would go free, otherwise what was the point? To allow the coldest and most devious to survive?
Just like the Prisoners' Dilemma, the strategy with the best outcome is to do nothing.
Our personal desire to survive is precisely what dooms us.

The only time I ever felt worse for the old people who were in a movie scene was that one basement hospital scene in the 2004 Der Untergang (Downfall) movie. The ones who knew that they were not a priority at all, without participating in the attrocities due to their age, just left behind to die while all hell broke loose all around them. Man, that movie is depressing no matter how much you dislike most of the real life people whose actions lead to the real thing happening.
No this is based on a true story that happened in another country. Georga, a tiny country nestled against Russia 🇷🇺, who's tried to take it over many times. An occurrence like this befell a group of 41 strangers. Except, in reality, there were many survivors and they all told the same story. And witnesses observed an unknown craft flying above in the days leading up to their abduction. I believe it was 1962; that
this happened. And a book was published about a year after their return.
(based off the book written by one survivor, and interpreting into English made it known around the world.)

The person that stands out to me is the guy who never voted. He gave every single person in that room an equal chance at survival, including himself. He was the only one who realised that no life is worth more than another.
He's pretty forgetful.

NO, the first girl didn't die because the orb hasn't risen yet and the orb is the only thing that kills people in the game the second girl died because she stepped off when the orb was already up

And by the end I was like, "I see. So that's how that plays out. I can't enjoy this film anymore. I know too much." Well that was a wild rollercoaster

@@ognath honestly there are many performances where the child actor is not very good at all for simpler emotions in other movies. What she's trying to get across is that it's extremely hard to convey that you are experiencing a lot of stress and anxiety about the thought of dying at such a young age. You also need lots of experience to really convey that emotion in a believable manner to the audience.

Here's what you do : When a unanimous decision is reached, grab that person before voting to use as a shield. Presumably the zap must come from the center so having that shield will protect you. Then stand in front of the next person to be selected using the dead body and your own body as a shield. Everyone repeats that in a spiral slowly moving outward saving everyone who is left.

My plan would be to try to convince everyone to force the game to select randomly every round. The logic being that if this is some sort of game show, it would be so boring that maybe they would cancel it. We would probably all die... but maybe we would save another group from being put in. We all die as heroes.
Obviously, if you should be lucky enough to make it to the final round, kill the last person and win ;)

I at least have one or two ideas:
1) It takes the machine about a second to react when you leave your spot or touch a person, and for all it looks like the shot doesn´t penetrate the body, so you could try to jump behind another person and use him as a meatshield.
2) Test if the machine can fire more than one projectile at the same time, by letting two people that are willing to sacrifice themselves anyways step down from their spot at the same time. If not, or if you think the aliens will not kill everybody, let all people step away at the same time.

Its imposible to not get sucked by the aliens, the movies gives us the idea that the whole world (or at least a whole city or the country population) got abducted and had lots of random cells each with their own winners in what looks to be a ghost town. All of wich are either children or women except for the winner in the cell that the movie takes place.
So one way or the other, no matter who you are or where you are, you will still end up forced to participate.

@@jonathancampbell5231 That plan shouldn't even have worked. Earlier, someone sacrificing themselves reset the 2 minute counter, but in this one instance, his vote still went through for some reason. What should've happened is that the girl stepped off, got zapped and then the guy and the pregnant woman would've stared at each other awkwardly for 2 minutes before voting for each other and both dying to the tie.
@@Suthek I think it's obvious that the game rules change when it comes to the final people. If it didn't, every game would end in a stalemate (or there would be two winners instead of one, but apparently the aliens don't want that).
That's normal for many elimination games.
