*SPOILER ALERT????*
“Most people would try to avoid pain, but that’s a mistake.”
*guy shocks himself*
“if it was me, i wouldn’t have done that”
As a strategy, avoiding pain is counterproductive because the way to win might require causing yourself pain on purpose. In that specific case, causing yourself pain doesn't help you win, so avoiding that particular pain is better.
Yo ata? I take classes at an ATA
if it was non life threatening pain like the shock i would've taken it to prepare myself for the pain that's yet to come
He already applied the context, you just weren't paying attention or just pandering for likes....
@@mrcombustiblelemon2902 It's easy to say. At that time they didn't know they would be doing the same challenge. In fact when I first saw the movie I thought it was going to be new challenges with every person. Therefore being the first and using it on yourself makes sense, considering they just killed a guy like it was nothing and that it's the first actual challenge, you can assume there are way more dangerous challenges to come where you might have spared yourself because of previous unselfishness.
I disagree with the first suggestion of shocking the other person. Not for moral reasons, it’s strategic. This is a game where other people can punish you for the last choice you made if it were seen as immoral. If I’m seen as moral, I have less chance of being “punished”, giving me room for the next round.
🤓
@@Remithedebater knew something like that would be said

I actually really liked the ending of this movie. Yes the suicide was sad, but I felt it really drove home the themes of sacrifice and consequences. You can't take someone's life to improve your own.
@Azzir I guess he meant something like every action has its consequences
@Azzir In the end, she took the other guy's life hoping to save her brother by doing this. That's what she did wrong.
Yeah, like she knew her brother was gonna take his own life ...
@@GOWfanatics ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES
Iris didn’t know the game she was getting into
The fact that the guy who broke in, didn’t call the police but went in by himself annoyed me so much.
True. It made no sense at all and was realy annoing to witness. Unless...
Hypothetically speaking, it would be much more likely that the rich evil host actually had direct contacts to the police, and that the police would rather help cover up the dead bodies instead of rescuing the civilians.
- The rich evil host had a bloody "MI5 agent" working for him as a butler, so who is to say that he could not have bought up the local police? -
Maybe the doctor knew about this, and thus did not call the police?!
Do you even realize the movie is a huge metaphor?
@@ailurophile4341 care to explain? Genuinely interested
@@iveyleaf I'm guessing it's a metaphor for the American healthcare system. And also how you can pretty pay to play anything. Money made these people break their entire moral compass, from things as simple as eating meat, to outright murder.
Still I get what the OP is saying about it being annoying. All it takes is one throwaway line that mentions he has connections high up in law enforcement to rationalize why the Doctor went on a suicide mission. Instead the audience is left to theory craft. Still if I were the Doctor I would've went at it smarter. Maybe start a fire or something in the mansion to get everyone out of there or at least buy more time.
I mean It depends on which police you mean. Sometimes they take emergencies very lightly. Unless you are screaming terrorist operation or Hostage situation, otherwise they move their asses really slow. But yeah atleast having a back up plan isnt a bad idea.
If i remember correctly, there is a scene where the brother is "sleeping" at the time when the main character is leaving for the game and he doesn't respond when she says bye. When she returns the brother is in the same exact position as when she left, suggesting that the brother OD'd before she even left and that she might have been able to save him if she had noticed and called for help.
Now that is sad.
Thats a big yikes there
do yk when that scene was? i cant find it
@@Very_based they’re talking about the scene before she left to go to the game
I just watched the movie, there's no such scene unfortunately. We didn't get a hint that the boy would die, but it was pretty much expected tbh.. :D
One thing I noticed when they tried to escape was that they attacked the wrong people. They should have gone after the butler and rich man directly, instead of wasting time on the guards. This is because these two are obviously the driving forces of the game. After the two of them are down, the guards have no incentive to keep the game going, and if they do attempt to continue the game, they can be threatened with exposure or bribed with a promise to keep their identities secret. Finally, I believe that they should have attacked the butler with the whip, because he is likely to overpower anyone who attempts to stab him with the ice pick. Additionally, at this point he is the only non-guard who they know is armed, and the whip will be able to do more damage faster, and it will take him out of the picture immediately.
That sounds good and interesting imagined if they did do that movie probably would of been different
@@ballers9172 thats not a good idea because either the guards comply with you or they kill you to big of a risk

@@MaiyaMia1 he does try to help later but my point is he was on board with it the time he played, and initially when he told iris about it. He changed his mind later
@@AwesomeMusicLady you might actually want to consider that the doctor is probably blackmailed or being paid. If you look at the ending, he either leave with one of his friends or kill for the money, and we see here the doctor seems like he is successfull so we can assume he killed the last person with him.
With that evidence, the doctor can't really report it to the court considering he also killed a person for money. So the rich guy use it as a weapon to blackmail him.
That black dude (Cal) and the veteran were amazing. I wished Cal wouldve managed to deal out some more whipps before he gets taken down. Especially against the host. The doctors death was soooo anticlimactic, i wonder why they even included his rescue attempt.

The ACTUAL best choice would have been for the recovering alcoholic to take the $50k and leave at the beginning like everyone was offered. He had a lowered chance of winning because there were younger people there who may have been more physically fit (which could possibly come in handy in later games), and he may have been a little impaired because of the scotch.
I wondered if they would just kill anyone that left. Because it was clear that you had to really earn the big jackpot and the person that left would surely find out pretty quick that all the others had gone missing and not been found, so they would have gone to the police. Similar to if Iris agreed to leave with nothing and Lucas was allowed to live.
Especially if you've been clean and sober for years, that scotch would do a number on you. If they hadn't shot him, the man would've been too sloshed to continue.
That’s the problem with greed.. it stops you from taking rational decisions.. even if your life is in danger
I mean it was a whole decanter, if he were to survive the halfway point of the games he’d probably be piss-drunk
That would have been the most coherent choice, but he wasn't sound of mind. He just had alcohol after being sober for so long.

Can use some of that money to recover again if he got hooked on alcohol. Or he probably would have wasted it on alcohol.
Putting years on the end of sobriety is a dumb concept anyways. It makes your addiction a landmark for the rest of your life, and if you mess up, you are more likely to feel extreme levels of guilt, and potentially go back to the addiction as a result. It requires massive amounts of support, and many other unsustainable things. It's an ass backwards way to handle addiction , and it does nothing to free the individual.

EDIT: Being extroverted doesn't mean you're more empathetic. That's like saying being introverted means we're more shy.
"He's weakened himself and gained nothing."
Except shown that he's willing to self sacrifice, which lowers his priority as a target.
At that exact moment everyone who wants to live wants to make him the last person they go up against, by eliminating everyone else.
And that can be a powerful advantage.
Everyone wants to appear strong, they think that appearing weak means you will be cut out first.
But appearing nonthreatening can mean others will think you can safely be ignored, even when that is a deadly mistake.
Thank you, I was looking for such a comment. The game just started, no need to make enemies just yet.

1) You wouldn't have the advance knowledge the game is a set up.
2) Like the commenter above kinda pointed out, you don't know for sure he'll let you leave alive.
"I don't drink water, I made a vow"
NitSUj LMAO
The only scenario that I feel could've been better is the final one. It pretty much just comes down to a coin flip who the shooter is. With this in mind, it is no longer a game of skill or wit, but pure chance. There should've been a third option: To attempt to shoot your opponent, but the weapon will backfire and kill you. This would play on the wits of the user, having an extra variable in play makes the final decision a lot tougher when you KNOW your life is still potentially on the line. Whereas in the movie, Iris has a pretty clear-cut idea of what she'll do exactly as she's handed the gun.
This would give the loser of the coin toss a fighting chance, but then if the "leave and gain nothing" option was taken, give the opponent the same choice. See if they would reward their generosity, or if they'd risk taking their own life to potentially take their opponent's, and the money.
This would completely change the gameplan of the final scenario, from pure 50/50, to a mindgame of emotion, wit, and deception.
I agree with everything you said, and indeed, one of the Saw movies plays on this idea with its own backfiring gun. I assume "Shep" gives the coin-toss winner a more direct hand in their fates to make them culpable, and less likely to report.
Yes, the players are desperate for money, and might believe they've *earned* their victory by surviving so much torture... but it's still their choice to murder someone. Shep knows the winner won't have a legal defense if the police find out just how they survived the game.
That doctor actually won the game but he thought trying to save someone from a guarded mansion was smart , instead of calling the police

Squid game is basically a toned-down, less anxiety-inducing version of this movie, they're incredibly similar!
-contestants aren't financially stable
-police/investigator that eventually gets killed when trying to stop the game
-old men who are the masterminds
-the one contestant who doesn't mind killing anyone (seen also with the Hunger Games & Battle Royale)
-the most morally good contestants becoming corrupt or savage by the last game
-family member dies in the end
-wholesome/nicest character dying
-children's game being turned into a death match
- the winner of the game is given prize money
- during the introduction, the players are asked if any of them want to leave
- a player that refuses to continue playing will be eliminated
That is literally the plot of all death game movies. People think Squid Game is original and it’s not it’s been done hundreds of time
@@colin.2572 Korean actually made so many death games movies way before this movie and squid game. If that show made the death game genre popular then who cares

Dude the host is rich as hell. He’s 100% bought off the cops already
He could have also reached out to the feds as well especially if he recalled the names of the people he beat in the last game. The FBI would take an interest in 7 missing people and their cell phone records would triangulate them to that last location. Rich as he is i doubt he can buy off the feds.
