Squid game is basically a toned-down, less anxiety-inducing version of this movie, they're incredibly similar!
-contestants aren't financially stable
-police/investigator that eventually gets killed when trying to stop the game
-old men who are the masterminds
-the one contestant who doesn't mind killing anyone (seen also with the Hunger Games & Battle Royale)
-the most morally good contestants becoming corrupt or savage by the last game
-family member dies in the end
-wholesome/nicest character dying
-children's game being turned into a death match
- the winner of the game is given prize money
- during the introduction, the players are asked if any of them want to leave
- a player that refuses to continue playing will be eliminated
That is literally the plot of all death game movies. People think Squid Game is original and it’s not it’s been done hundreds of time

I love how squid games and this movie had the exact same outcome (minus the cause of death)
I would disagree due to the fact that there was always a way out of squid game due to the vote. There is no true way out of this one. Even the last round. If she chose to show mercy she could not know if he would do the she because the host said she gets to go first. However, i was shocked she did not shoot him in non fatal places.

The fact that the guy who broke in, didn’t call the police but went in by himself annoyed me so much.
True. It made no sense at all and was realy annoing to witness. Unless...
Hypothetically speaking, it would be much more likely that the rich evil host actually had direct contacts to the police, and that the police would rather help cover up the dead bodies instead of rescuing the civilians.
- The rich evil host had a bloody "MI5 agent" working for him as a butler, so who is to say that he could not have bought up the local police? -
Maybe the doctor knew about this, and thus did not call the police?!

@@iveyleafadventures I'm guessing it's a metaphor for the American healthcare system. And also how you can pretty pay to play anything. Money made these people break their entire moral compass, from things as simple as eating meat, to outright murder.
Still I get what the OP is saying about it being annoying. All it takes is one throwaway line that mentions he has connections high up in law enforcement to rationalize why the Doctor went on a suicide mission. Instead the audience is left to theory craft. Still if I were the Doctor I would've went at it smarter. Maybe start a fire or something in the mansion to get everyone out of there or at least buy more time.
I mean It depends on which police you mean. Sometimes they take emergencies very lightly. Unless you are screaming terrorist operation or Hostage situation, otherwise they move their asses really slow. But yeah atleast having a back up plan isnt a bad idea.
I disagree with the first suggestion of shocking the other person. Not for moral reasons, it’s strategic. This is a game where other people can punish you for the last choice you made if it were seen as immoral. If I’m seen as moral, I have less chance of being “punished”, giving me room for the next round.

That black dude (Cal) and the veteran were amazing. I wished Cal wouldve managed to deal out some more whipps before he gets taken down. Especially against the host. The doctors death was soooo anticlimactic, i wonder why they even included his rescue attempt.

One thing I noticed when they tried to escape was that they attacked the wrong people. They should have gone after the butler and rich man directly, instead of wasting time on the guards. This is because these two are obviously the driving forces of the game. After the two of them are down, the guards have no incentive to keep the game going, and if they do attempt to continue the game, they can be threatened with exposure or bribed with a promise to keep their identities secret. Finally, I believe that they should have attacked the butler with the whip, because he is likely to overpower anyone who attempts to stab him with the ice pick. Additionally, at this point he is the only non-guard who they know is armed, and the whip will be able to do more damage faster, and it will take him out of the picture immediately.
That sounds good and interesting imagined if they did do that movie probably would of been different

The alcohol in the beginning is a tricky one. Obviously they have no idea what kind of game they are about to play, but I would probably have one drink. It calms you down nicely and can also make you feel a little less pain. Then again even that one drink would make the water barrel part of the game a lot harder
The elder lady always made me feel super sad. She wasn't my favorite, but I pitied her heavily.

As a strategy, avoiding pain is counterproductive because the way to win might require causing yourself pain on purpose. In that specific case, causing yourself pain doesn't help you win, so avoiding that particular pain is better.

In fact when I first saw the movie I thought it was going to be new challenges with every person. Therefore being the first and using it on yourself makes sense, considering they just killed a guy like it was nothing and that it's the first actual challenge, you can assume there are way more dangerous challenges to come where you might have spared yourself because of previous unselfishness.

@@maddiemcnugget1076 In a country with public health care it's very unlikely that the brother would die. He is young, very sick but but treatable, meaning he would be very high on the list for the operation. Normally, the long waiting lists are for situations that aren't urgent.

If the punishment isn’t too painful, you want to make the self-sacrifice. This way, no on sees you as a threat, and thus may not eliminate you given the chance. It may even warm them up to you and make the decision harder if they have to harm you.

@@AwesomeMusicLady you might actually want to consider that the doctor is probably blackmailed or being paid. If you look at the ending, he either leave with one of his friends or kill for the money, and we see here the doctor seems like he is successfull so we can assume he killed the last person with him.
With that evidence, the doctor can't really report it to the court considering he also killed a person for money. So the rich guy use it as a weapon to blackmail him.
This guy when he sees a disabled person: this person is a huge liability you are gonna want to stab them at the earliest opportunity

I can hold my breath for slightly over two minutes before I start to get that chest closing up panic feel. So if I had to survive any would you rather game that one would be my pick!
The only scenario that I feel could've been better is the final one. It pretty much just comes down to a coin flip who the shooter is. With this in mind, it is no longer a game of skill or wit, but pure chance. There should've been a third option: To attempt to shoot your opponent, but the weapon will backfire and kill you. This would play on the wits of the user, having an extra variable in play makes the final decision a lot tougher when you KNOW your life is still potentially on the line. Whereas in the movie, Iris has a pretty clear-cut idea of what she'll do exactly as she's handed the gun.
This would give the loser of the coin toss a fighting chance, but then if the "leave and gain nothing" option was taken, give the opponent the same choice. See if they would reward their generosity, or if they'd risk taking their own life to potentially take their opponent's, and the money.
This would completely change the gameplan of the final scenario, from pure 50/50, to a mindgame of emotion, wit, and deception.
Its funny how he still has a sense of humor during these “okay, this is messed up. And not because they skipped desert”

I actually really liked the ending of this movie. Yes the suicide was sad, but I felt it really drove home the themes of sacrifice and consequences. You can't take someone's life to improve your own.

Putting years on the end of sobriety is a dumb concept anyways. It makes your addiction a landmark for the rest of your life, and if you mess up, you are more likely to feel extreme levels of guilt, and potentially go back to the addiction as a result. It requires massive amounts of support, and many other unsustainable things. It's an ass backwards way to handle addiction , and it does nothing to free the individual.

If i remember correctly, there is a scene where the brother is "sleeping" at the time when the main character is leaving for the game and he doesn't respond when she says bye. When she returns the brother is in the same exact position as when she left, suggesting that the brother OD'd before she even left and that she might have been able to save him if she had noticed and called for help.
Now that is sad.

20:40 One more thing, I would've watched how I'm pointing the gun. If I do shoot the other guy, I'd angle the back of my gun away from me, just in case it's been rigged for misfire, like in the Jigsaw movie.
21:00 hell no! Therapy yourself! It feels SO WRONG and it IS wrong to just use the hard-won money to merely heal yourself of the damage it cost to win it. It's like devoting your life to sloth-dom and gluttony, saying you'll just use money later in life to heal all the brain-rotting and malnutrition you endured from playing video games all day for 30 years and lack of healthy eating and exercise. The ACTUAL best choice would have been for the recovering alcoholic to take the $50k and leave at the beginning like everyone was offered. He had a lowered chance of winning because there were younger people there who may have been more physically fit (which could possibly come in handy in later games), and he may have been a little impaired because of the scotch.
I wondered if they would just kill anyone that left. Because it was clear that you had to really earn the big jackpot and the person that left would surely find out pretty quick that all the others had gone missing and not been found, so they would have gone to the police. Similar to if Iris agreed to leave with nothing and Lucas was allowed to live.
Especially if you've been clean and sober for years, that scotch would do a number on you. If they hadn't shot him, the man would've been too sloshed to continue.

I tried the breath holding method of breathing in heavy and exhaling fast i did it a couple time and i was amazed when i held my breathe for 1 minute and 10 seconds i definitely could’ve held it longer but my allergies are bad and i really needed to cough but when i did it with no breathing exercise i only held my breath for 35 seconds and as a person with asthma i honestly didn’t know i was even remotely capable of holding my breath for over a minute it really works!

Aside from her phobia, it could still be the rational choice if you figure that you probably won't be able to hold your breath for 2 minutes. All of the alternatives were horrible, but at least surviveable with a rather high likelyhood.
I remember being like 5 and my brother was babysitting me and I was looking through Netflix and I saw this movie and asked my brother if we could watch it (I didn’t know it was a horror movie) and my brother just said “do you know what this is about?”. When I found out what it was years later I laughed so hard.
