    all around player? Bird is the MOST COMPLETE player EVER..
    Only player EVER to average atleast 24 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists a game for his career..
    FIRST player to shoot atleast 50% fg, 40% 3 pt and 90% ft (50/40/90) and with than Steve Nash, the ONLY two players to shoot for those numbers in MULTIPLE SEASONS (bird did it twice)..
    On offense, he could post high or low, he could get rebounds and put backs, he could face up and drive or jab step and shoot, he could move without the ball around screens, he could spot up, he could create his own shot, he could shot off the dribble and he could pass...
    Defensively? Bird made three all defensive 2nd teams, led the league in defensive win shares four times (only 3-4 other players have lead the league that many times in defensive win shares for a season) and he came in 2nd THREE TIMES and for his shortened career he is STILL number 33 all time in defensive win shares accumulated (ahead of players like Dennis Rodman and Chris Paul). so he OBVIOUSLY played defense..
    he was clutch, he was tough, he was grimy.. for me, if im starting a team to build a dynasty and win, first Jordan, then Bird.

    I grew up in the 80s. I wish I could fully articulate how insanely hyped the Bird VS Magic rivalry was. Any time they played, you _knew_ you were in for a show. One interesting detail is how they became friends. Look up a video called Magic And Bird: A Rivalry Gives Way To Friendship, where they explain it themselves. They were supposed to shoot a Converse sneaker commercial together, but Larry didn't want to do it in LA. So they brought the production to the house he'd built for his mom in his tiny hometown of French Lick. The house has a private basketball court that Larry used for practice. Magic figured that he'd just do the commercial and get out of there quick. At first, the two were kind of awkward; they'd only seen each other in competitive settings. What do you even say to your most bitter rival? But eventually they got to share a bench and small talk when they were taking breaks. Then they went inside and Larry's mom made lunch for them, and Magic realized that he could let his guard down and just be himself. It's like if two kids played basketball at school together, they decided to hang out later, and one's mom made lunch for them.

If you want to take your basketball game to the next level you should study everything you can about how Bird plays as its a clear blueprint of how to play better. The more you watch him the more you can learn. He truly took passing to levels that are very hard for players today to match. Some can do a couple of his tricks but no one has got all of them. Here's a few things to know about Bird.
    For eight consecutive years, he finished first or second in MVP voting, winning three times. No one has ever had an eight-year run like that.
    The Celtics were 29-53 the year before he joined the team; 60-22 his first year, and he was the only major change.
    A bad back and multiple surgeries cut his career short. His last five years he was increasingly hampered by the back, though still feared by everyone.
    You ask about what he did after he played? He coached for three years, and was named Coach of the Year.
    Later, he was a GM, and yep, was named GM of the year. Only person in NBA history to win and MVP, a finals MVP, Coach of the Year and GM of the Year. Perhaps the greatest basketball mind ever.

    Larry Bird WAS "a little stiff." He played the last seven years with increasing back pain. Some nights before a game, near the end of his career, Bird had to spend the night in traction just to be able to play. He had to lay down on the floor when he was on the sidelines, and when on a plane, because he couldn't sit. He spent hours before a game just getting his back loose and his spine aligned to hold long enough to be able to play a game. In 1985, Bird hurt his back while shoveling gravel for his mother to have a new driveway. He didn't retire until 1992...when the back pain finally got so severe that he couldn't stand it anymore. And he was still putting up awesome, all star numbers. Bird was different! In my opinion, he is the best all-around player ever in the NBA.

    I met Larry just after he retired. He came to view a new home my friend built in Mass. I was awestruck having grown up watching the Celtics. One point to add... while Bird was the best he was surrounded with incredible teammates like Parrish, McHale, DJ, ML Carr, Ainge and others. KC Jones was a great coach and no doubt the great fans played their part.

    To be fair he never really faded away -he moved on to coaching and then to management... So he never really left the sport. His injuries just prevented him from playing any longer.

    being born and raised in boston, larry's always been my favorite basketball player. what a legend.
    the start of your reaction i was a little annoyed, "this guy is really gonna pause after every clip." but kept watching and you reminded me of the hype i felt watching him for the first time. i started smiling cheek to cheek and got hyped up again just like you. and the short story you told at the end about how you related and really felt his emotions when he retired showed me youre really feeling it and this isnt just another embarrassingly over the top reaction channel.
    keep it up man, keep being you. im gonna go check out your other videos now

    That was NOT the end of Legend's time in the NBA though. He coached the Indiana Pacers, and then as an executive ran the organization.
    Larry was 1 of only 3 to ever get the league MVP 3x in a row. He is also the ONLY person to ever get the triple crown: Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year.
    Larry Bird is absolutely GOAT worthy. Check out his Trash Talking videos, or Passing/Assist videos. He did it all, during one of the hardest eras of the NBA. Legend.

    The more you dig into Larry Bird's legend, the more amazed you're going to be. He won his championships against the likes of Kareem, Magic, Dr. J., Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Dominique, Dennis Rodman and Isaiah Thomas. Among his peers he was considered to be the #1 Trash Talker! This man talked more noise than anyone else in the league -- and then proceeded to back it up! Look into his trash-talking legacy if you want to be amazed even further!!!

    @Lonewolfmike Рік тому +1

    One thing you will find out is Larry is a trash talker that few, if any, could compete with. He would trash talk everyone and back it up. Those who played against and with Larry know exactly how good he was.

    Growing up in the Boston area in the 80's, I can't stress enough how huge the Celtics/Lakers rivalry was. Bird was freakishly strong and had eyes in the back of his head. You should react to some of his trash talking videos. Legendary...

    Bird's body only held up for 13 seasons, which is a lot shorter than the average NBA player.....but when he retired, he left it all out there on the court, played until he couldn't do it anymore.

  • @MGower4465
    @MGower4465 Рік тому

    Bird won Rookie of the Year. When he retired, he agreed to coach the Pacers for one year. He won Coach of the Year. He left coaching, as promised, and moved to the Pacers front office. He won Team Executive of the Year. Multiple MVPs, NBA titles, even won Olympic gold in 1992 alongside Magic, Jordan, and a whole constellation of NBA stars once the Olympics acknowledged that if it was okay for NBA players to play in the Olympics for their home countries simply because they didn't play pro *in that country*, it had to be okay for American NBA players to play on the US team. The Dream Team went 8-0 to gold, and won by an average of 46 points in each game. Magic had retired due to his HIV diagnosis, and un-retired to play at the Olympics.

    Ok loved the vid and your reaction. You must watch more than this one to see how unbelievable Bird really was. Here are his career game averages. Points 24.3, rebounds 10.0, assists 6.3. He was the original member of the 50,40,90% club and he did twice before anyone else had done it once. Bird and Nash the only two in NBA history to do it more than once. He won the league MVP 3 straight years only others to do that were Wilt and Bill Russell. From 1980-1989 Bird won 67% of the MVP votes for the entire decade. The next closest was Magic with 37%. The dominated for an entire decade! Man I subbed and can’t wait to watch you go down this Bird rabbit hole!
    May I suggest the video the greatest passer- Larry Bird the remix. Must be the remix there is. About 17-18 minutes of Larry dropping dimes. Then you need to watch his trash talk videos.

    He's the goat. Let's start in order...as a rookie, 3rd day of camp, came out and told reporters, this league is nothing, I will dominate this league! Won 3 MVPs during the greatest 15 years of the NBA's greatest all time players. First ever50/40/90 guy. Won 3 , 3 point contest in a row, one while wearing his warm up jacket. Dropped 47 on Portland, during their hay day, left handed!! Played his last 6 years with a blown Achilles tendon, and broken back! Had to use a warmup bike, for an hour, before each game, just to limber up! Had more end of game win shots than anyone. Shot 1 time from behind the backboard. And one of a rebound from behind the left backside of the board. There's only one player ever close to him. Pistol Pete. He just burnt out too fast and was born with half a heart.

    To put Larry's fan base/admirers in perspective; his retirement was at Boston Garden on a non-game night, with no room left for standing. That was it... that one night...no good bye tour...one and done... that's Larry Legend.

    Being 74 years old gives me the advantage of being there when basketball was rejuvenated. Boston with it's parquet floors were the epicenter for me. Bird was THE player for boston. The games, that I was fortunate enough to watch on a rather small black and white tv, were exciting as the dickens. WHAT GAMES!!! Hope you don't mind a little coaching, because you are just starting out in life and on UA-cam, something my daddy told me more than 60 years ago....Don't tell other people your troubles! Half of them could care less and the other half will be glad you got what was coming to you. KEEP your integrity and callus over your FEELINGS. God Bless

    I totally agree with your point about feeling lost when the playing days are over. You start playing organized sports/backyard sports almost EVERY day starting around age seven …then graduate from high school and there’s NOTHING …no more organized sports and friends go their separate ways. So then every time you see some kind of ball out in the grass or in the corner of a room, you feel the urge to go pick it up …you dry your hands with a paper towel and then hit the game-winning 3-point shot into the trash can. It’s something so strongly built into your person and yet now so worthless …but we sure had fun while it lasted 😊
