I was actually told to go back to Australia because I was taking away a job from an English person. Eltham was the worst. The odd black person there was treated with animosity. Once I opened my mouth I got the stink eye too. To be honest, most people weren’t bad, just a decent chunk of the white population. Egypt was the worst for me. Only place I’ve ever had rocks thrown at me. Walking down a street in Alexandria, rocks whizzing past me… riding a bike past a school in siwa, all the kids running out and throwing rocks at us… and the two teachers watching. Remember - what India expects everyone to believe is that Harbhajan was perfectly capable of having a conversation in English with Brett Lee, for several overs, but the very instant Andrew Symonds says something to Harbhajan , Harbhajan replies with a word or sentence in a language he knew Symonds wouldn’t understand, and was the one slur that sounded remarkably like the only singular word that prior to the series the Australians specifically didn’t want said to Symonds. How extremely convenient…… Furthermore, the subsequent inquiry found that because neither Andrew Symonds nor any of his teammates speak Hindi, they couldn’t ascertain beyond doubt exactly what Harbhajan said because he does speak Hindi. What has never been ascertained is why Harbhajan, given he had an entire language of words to pick from, chose the Hindi slur that sounds almost exactly like “monkey”. Especially considering how prevalent “benchod” is as a slur, which sounds nothing like “monkey”. Similarly, if “maa ki” is a normal thing to say, you’d think at least once it would have been uttered and misunderstood by a West Indian, or a South African, or a Zimbabwean by now. Funny how that hasn’t happened since…..

Because they're Lowlife. Whenever Aussies say things racist, they say that they're not, because that's the way those people are in their culture or whatever.
My question is that were Australia playing series with the right spirits? Aussies are known for their misconduct on the field in order to be aggressive in game. So they must know when you start something you should be ready to take whatever come back to you. It do not matter to be or not to be racists as in my view any personal comment is as bad as being racist comment.
Aussies those days thought they can sledge as long as they want and a moment someone gave them back they are miffed. I think so whole episode was blown out due to Australia's large size ego. The current Australian team is more likeable as compared to that great Aussie team where they thought victory at any cost is the right way to go.
Nobody can and should defend crowds behavior in mumbai.Time and again they have done to even indian cricketers in ipl. Few ipl back they boo'd Virat Kohli because he was playing against Mumbai team.

As God confirmed that Harbhajan paaji did not say Monkey he said "Teri Maa ki.." a rather common slur which is frustration being vented... As he did not complete that line it's not a racist slur.. And Monkeys are super smart.. how is that a bad word.. monkeys in India are considered God per "Hanuman" .. It was downright awful umpiring rigged up up by the Aussie board of that time. Ponting, good batsman, one of the best captains.. not the most honest one though. You can see Hayden, Gilli and other rather very decent players did not drum the beats of war.. so get on with it..
Well, that's Harbhajan's story and he's sticking to it. And you believe the umpiring was rigged? The Australian team have no input into what umpires are selected and they were both international umpires. It might be a common issue where you come from with match fixing, but it doesn't happen in Australia. You saw the backlash of the Australian public and Cricket Australia over the sandpaper issue, there is just no way in hell any Australian would get away with match fixing. The ONLY reason so much was ever said about that was because of the reaction from within. The ICC banned Smith and Warner for 1 Test Match and Bancroft lost 75% of his match fee, it could have easily been left at that. As for Ponting not being honest I Just don't think you understand. I assume you are talking about the claiming of low down catches in that series? I don't know if you have ever been in the situation of taking a low down catch. It's not easy to know if the ball hit the ground first, or whether you fingers were too splayed, in the fast motion of diving forward you feel you have fairly caught the ball. Even after all the replays it's still inconclusive, but to call him dishonest for that is wrong.
This happened 16 years ago you muppet. Nothing like this has happened since no matter who was who was right or wrong. So how the f has it degenerated whiney
I've seen racist comments made by players to their teammates. Ugly. Tendulkar clearly lied and the Indian group had the decision reversed against Singh based on money. Says it all.
That's what I've been saying too. The BCCI threatened to end the series if the 3 match ban wasn't repealed and the ICC folded, just like when Tendulkar was accused and found guilty of ball tampering, the same thing happened.
Wow...Tony Grieg who commented that he will make the West Indies grovel in 1975 is talking about racism. Btw, Harbhajan was wrong here. Imagine calling an illiterate Punjabi a racist, who isn't even educated about slavery and its history, someone who has no idea about what it means to call a black person a "monkey". On top of that, harbhajan singh comes from a country that worships monkeys because of lord Hanuman.
Imagine proving to the whole world that indeed you've convict genes and you're not capable of understanding the basic thing that people around the world have different understanding of things compared to you.
Aussies thought they could get away with anything. While growing up, I saw watching Indian players getting sweared by Australian players every freaking minute without any iota of shame. Indian players, gentlemen as they were mostly quiet. Not anymore! India finally stood up and said no. Not when we have the financial clout! This happened even before the IPL. Can you imagine any Aussie cricketer saying what Slater has said then? Indian public and Indian board would ensure that repentance is in order!
@@KiriAatam Shame all that money still can't buy world championships you clown. As for Slater, where is he now? Nowhere. Indian broadcasters were still happy giving him jobs for years.
Where to begin, firstly he made up an accusation tried to be a victim himself. The word monkey was never uttered. I find it hilarious that the Australians (known and repeated racists) tried to cry racism.
Tony greig being a true pragmatist here, realising that the aussies didn't take kindly to any sledging hurled their way in response to the slur they've dished out over the years (also borne out by the racial chants made by the Aussie crowds to the touring west Indians in the 80s and to Mohammad siraj recently). It isn't fair dinkum when it's given back to the Aussies.
You mean the "slurs" directed at Siraj that weren't proven and led to a group of young men being vilified in the media for no reason? The "slurs" that weren't heard by any of the people surrounding said group of young men? Those ones?

As an Aussie, it seems that Tony Grieg, had the pragmatic and more correct opinion than Slater. It did require leaders from both sides like Ponting, Hayden, Kumble and Tendulkar to resolve this. It didn't happen.
No, Tony Greig always enjoyed the chit chat, as a player in fact he often started it, but this was a racial issue, and if the situation had been reversed, given how sensitive Indian people are, we'd never have heard the end of it.

I’ve worked in schools from Peckham to dartford, and compared to what I’ve seen in Australia London is worse. They had good arms too. I was told by a guy who asked me my religion that the worst Muslim was better than the best Christian. Most people were nice , but the unpleasant ones stood out. I used to know a French girl whose partner was Indian. They lived in Tanzania, but he hated it there… too many black Africans for him. There are racists all over. @@betadevb I cited Egypt as a personal experience. The original poster made the silly statement that Australia was decades behind England vis a vis racism. My Egyptian anecdote was a contrast to what his concept of racism is.
People tend to view things through their own prism. You see the unfair lockdown as proof of something racial because 80 % of gws is not white. I see it as a Liberal government who was always late with their response to outbreaks refusing to apply the law to the wealthier, more conservative voting eastern suburbs. 20 % of GwS is white, and predominantly working class… my cousins from parramatta, all white, were in that lockdown.
8:56 What was said to bring that on ?? Tony Grieg was an gentleman.
Rest in peace and Rest in greatness Tony Grieg.. as he said off the field settlement of the issue would have been great.. but there was not mutual respect among players to discuss this off field..
As an Indian, I am grievously ashamed at the vitriol that the late Mr Symonds had to endure that day in Mumbai. However, Tony Greig's point about non racial abuse being classified as "what happens on the field stays there" is spot-on. Abuse, regardless of it's nature, should be reprimanded. Cricket should bring joy to people, competitiveness should never be misconstrued as the fact that the opponent should be made to feel as uncomfortable as possible, regardless of the means employed.

How extremely convenient……
Furthermore, the subsequent inquiry found that because neither Andrew Symonds nor any of his teammates speak Hindi, they couldn’t ascertain beyond doubt exactly what Harbhajan said because he does speak Hindi.

Did Tendulkar tell the same thing during 1st and 2nd hearing?
