Just as an FYI, during the group stages I wanted to watch all the sets but didn't have time. So usually I would look on the main channel and click the game that was uploaded that day, see who was featured, and then go watch that set on the extras channel. Loving how you set this up!

What a Series! And a great cast! Semi-Off topic, but: I really wanna say I love how this format gives the less "top" players so much practice against those actual tops and top-tops and feel like that heavily benefits their progression as a player. Adding to that, the amount of games played by many people benefiting from going for more out of the box strategies - and often having success with that - also feels like it is improving the overall level of the game, for the sub-top players as well as the top and top-top players. Might feel a bit misplaced here, as both here are certainly top-top players rn. Well '\_(._.)_/' But I feel like both the Hera Villese Series, but this one even more so, really illustrate the hyperstrategic state of the scene, and I honestly feel certain that all top 20 players active now would probably beat themselves from 1 year ago like 80% of the time. The perceived improvements of strategic depth, speedy tactical decisionmaking and detailed execution on probably all of the 2+++ level feel almost wild to me.
Totally agree, and the fact that the meta keeps getting tweaked as players keep finding ways to best it keeps the game fresh. The devs have also done a great job overall responding in a way that keeps things interesting (new civ bonuses, etc.), which truly allows for more "out of the box" thinking. Also, it does help that many of the top players seem to keep each other honest, and prevent each other from becoming overly rigid with any one particular type of strategy. There's a lot of creativity being exhibited all around, and it's all thanks to the surge of interest in the game and the well curated competitive scene - it's truly a virtuous cycle, and doesn't appear to be slowing anytime soon. Creating TTL was such a great move by T90, and it basically ensures that cycle will continue for the forseeable future.

Due to diminished returns you get from garrison'ing more sheep in the mill as Gurjaras: with 10 sheep, would it ever be worth building an extra mill just to split the 10 sheep between 2 mills instead of 1? For reference, you gain 8food/min doing that which is like 1/3rd of a farmer's collection rate for 100 wood.
100% yes. It is just a question of how long it takes to see a return on investment. At a 1:1 wood-to-food conversion rate, it takes 12.5 min to break even. At a 60:175 conversion rate (same as seeding farms), it will 36.5 minutes to break even. At a 5:1 conversion rate (if food was a lot more important than wood), it will 2.5 minutes to break even.
An important element of the garrisoned sheep isn't just the food, its the "free" worker time. Especially at the beginning of the game, when you have so few villagers and have many many tasks to get the ball rolling.. While your opponent would have to throw some villagers on berries or deer to match your food production you can instead goto wood or gold because you have extra "ghost villagers" collecting food.
glad to see aoe2 hasn't hit the skill ceiling after 20 years. great level of play, but the baffling choices to fight over water that neither player did anything with in g5 was weird. similar on cross too. I get that cannon galleys are eventually the play but they can largely be ignored. I feel overall that Yo didn't do his homework and came in with some strange ideas and ended up sort of halfway between strats in maybe 3 of the games. The arena game is understandable, but he didn't commit either way still. Tatoh seems to favour playing an age down with aggression which only gives him a small window to do damage. I doubt that's going to work against the real inform players and will likely just be g1 repeats where he cant get enough done in his window.
T90 streams on Facebook. You can follow the link in the description to find it. The co-casters of the other matches in the playoffs will have their channels linked as well on Twitch.

Why did not tatoh make steppe lancers? They are so much better at raiding, have better upgrades than Cuman camels, create faster with steppe husbandry and are really strong en masse. Seems to me they would have been a great match for his all in castle age raid.
T90, next season we gotta switch to the quasi WWC format of the most popular civs for each map being banned. So each week in the group stage and each round of the playoffs. The matchups are too repetitive.
The first game was the most frustrated I've ever been watching an age of empires game. I was *screaming* at my screen that the player who wasn't in imp was throwing. He had a massive four to one army advantage, but his opponent had better units. So what did he do? He stopped making camels, and just let his enemy mass enough to beat the crap out of him. Each minute he wasn't taking that fight, was a minute he was losing. If you know you can't beat your opponent in the late game because your army is the same but they get more upgrades and a whole better unit plus bonuses from the civ? Heres an idea. Beat them before they get a mass.
No disrespect meant Mr. Death, but unless you’re viper on a burner UA-cam account for some reason, it’d be best if you stopped acting like you know better than either of these 2 players. You don’t. Stop acting like you wouldn’t have made a mistake in that game. You would have. These guys know more about what’s going on in their games, in real time, than any of us watching with vision of everything…what you just did is essentially the same as if you, assuming you aren’t a medical doctor, were to go to a doctors office and then instruct said doctor on the best course of action and treatment plan for their patients. The doctor knows more about it than you and the vast majority of people so leave it to the doctor.
@@robjames4032 Well thats a take. Its more akin to me reading a detailed medical report on why a doctor made a mistake, and expressing my frustrations as to how it happened. Or even more accurately, like watching Tom Brady throw an int to a linebacker he didn't see. Even the most skilled make mistakes and in the heat of the moment with a thousand other things, I absolutely can see how it happens, and I mean no disrespect to them. In no way did I mean to claim that I know more about the game than Tatoh. I don't think anyone does, even Viper, and I'm a massive Viper fanboy. Nor did I ever say I would not have made that mistake. I mean, I wouldn't. I'd have been dead before Feudal, even if Yo was drunk and deleted all his starting vils. Tatoh is one of the best to ever do it in AOE2. But he, being human, makes mistakes, and I do absolutely think he made a mistake. It was frustrating to watch because I could see it coming. Am I special? No. I don't have extensive experience in the game but I've watched and played enough to know that his comp was going to get stomped. I think most people watching know that heavy camel with civ bonuses and more upgrades is better than the weaker version of the same unit. But I had the benefit of seeing the numbers, of knowing Yo had villagers tatoh didn't see, of seeing Yo's production, of seeing Tatoh's production. Etc... Tatoh had a hell of a lot to focus on, he couldn't see everything. Perhaps he didn't know Yo was able to mass that many, or figured he really needed to do damage or that even if he lost his army the damage would win him the game or something else. Tatoh is a brilliant strategist. I love both these players, I love watching them play and always wish them to go far. So I was emotionally invested in the game. And I expressed my frustrations in that regard.
To add though, I do see how my response was disrespectful. I should have at the very least seperated it into two parts. The second was more to explain the logic behind why I felt it was a mistake, but the 'you' seems directed at Tatoh which it was not. That's just a personal habit and kind of how I 'speak' when I type. It was just me expressing my frustrations in the moment. Because again, I really respect and enjoy both these players a lot.

Damn I continued watching and the bias gets worse and worse
Seriously, someone explain this bias to me. Are they friends irl or something? It gets worse and worse
lithiuanas are stupid broken not even an argument armor ignore should be 50% and maybe even remove the last armor upgrade for archers cause they are way too versatile with fully upgraded elite skirms
let me guess gujaras hindustanis turks and portueses every damn series
I hate to see something as cheesy as a scout rush
Boring gameplay to me
I hardly know either player but it’s a shame to see Yo lose with how terrible T90 treated him. I hope you read this and realize how poorly you treated Yo in these fights. Terrible coverage and treatment. Shame you’re the person at the forefront of AOE2 casting and you act like this.
