I'm surprised you thought Luffy was overwhelmingly superior to Arlong at this point. Not many people think that way (at least, by this point). I agree, and I think that's exactly what Oda wanted to showcase: that Luffy was too big of a fish for the small pond the East Blue was for him (so he had to handicap him many times, to create the illusion of stakes). These are, however, just but the very first steps on their journey. It's a long journey, and a big world. Much is still unknown: for them and for you. Also, Luffy is selfish and ignorant (and pretty dumb most of the time), and, honestly, little can be done about it. He does, however, have a great emotional intelligence, and is able to read people and act accordingly. Notice how, even though he knew nothing about Nami's story, he quickly realized that, to set her free for good, he had to destroy her room and the whole Arlong Park. In most cases, I'd say he ends up growing on you. If not... Hey, at least there're and will be plenty other characters.
Basically being caught up I can tell you with out spoiling that Luffy and crew get their shit wrecked constantly these beginning arcs are probably their best track record.
You learn through the cover illustration of the chapters in the manga (sadly most of these weren’t animated) that Johnny and Yosaku stay in Cocoyashi village and end up becoming successful fishermen
Oh my gosh!! Is this your fisrt time seeing a Den Den Mushi?? XD Yes the "phones" of One Piece are like snails and they're the best We definitely get a new standard for villains with Arlong, and I agree that he's likeable as a villain. Can't wait to see you react to the ones that are to come!!
Do you remember how it was mentioned in an earlier episode that one of the seven warlords was a fishman? Yeah, we'll definitely be learning more about fishmen later in this series so it's great that you two are so interested in it. Also I know you guys are crapping on Luffy for being a child and being kind of one-dimensional, but keep in mind that Luffy doesn't know anything that happened on this island for 8 years. He doesn't have the same context that we do. He doesn't need it. I'd say it's pretty impressive that he knew exactly what to do in this situation to save Nami. His only reason was "you made Nami cry hence I'm kicking your butt." He is very childish and dumb sometimes but his instinct and emotional intelligence is quite crazy.
“I don’t like Luffy, he’s selfish and ignorant” Yep, that’s luffy and I love him 😂😂😂🥰🥰🥰 hahaha, you’ll know him better throughout the journey and hopefully you will like him better 😅😅
Personally I like Luffy, his selfishness and naive ways come off as refreshing. Even the other Strawhats distrust and double check Nami as soon as she leaves but Luffy knows her, doesn't need the sob back story, doesn't listen to the misunderstandings or lies about her. He just trust her to be his Navigator. Someone like that comes of as real to me. On the other hand at this point in the story my least liked Straw hat was Zoro, because his character just came off as one of those cool characters for the sake of being cool, those characters are the least interesting to me because they lack depth even though their parts and battles are the most badass. For me it was Nami, Usopp, Luffy, Sanji, Zoro, in terms of Ranking at this point.

Love to see it ❤
Great reaction as always. ❤️
22:53 If you watch long enough for the upcoming episodes you'd know about why Arlong feels like that.
