Big wigs getting too much at the expense of the people doing the work for them. Elitism at its best. What's sad is people REALLY love working for Disney...their loyalty to a company that is (let's be honest) not loyal to them only hurts the employees.

@sbtopjosh first! i'm not a child i actually just graduated with a bachelor's degree in engineering, currently working towards getting a phd at an ivy league institution. also getting an mba so i know a thing or two. second! of course disney won't because they're a corporation, however, they definitely can afford to and really should be required to do so. i think it's very simple, any full time job should be able to cover someone's bare minimum living expenses, full time pay for a full time job seems pretty fair to me. that should be the bare minimum. it's really not that easy to just "find a different job." job training takes time and money that can be difficult to save up when you can't even afford to pay rent. how are people supposed to educate themselves when they're living out of their cars when many college students don't manage to educate themselves while their parents pay their tuition? your entire comment drips with a condescension that makes it clear to me that you lack some basic knowledge of the real world as well as basic empathy. please educate yourself, as these deficits might cause you trouble when looking for a job in the future.

Isn’t California’s minimum wage at $16/hr now? Not saying they don’t deserve more, but I do think $27/hr for a job that anyone off the street can do is a bit much…especially since some college graduates aren’t even making that much.
Also, $15/hr at 30 hrs/week comes out to $1800/month before taxes…I know California’s expensive, but even on minimum wage, its hard to believe a person with 4 other roommates still can’t afford to buy food for themselves.

With all due respect, working at an amusement park is fine if you're in High School or College. Disneyland is NOT designed to be a career. There are skilled blue collar jobs out there - no college degree needed - that pay MUCH better.

Disney should pay all their character actors at least $50-60 an hour! That’s how much I make as a piano teacher, so I’d imagine every Disney character actor - who goes through extensive, brutal, dedicated, difficult training, mentally and physically, to prepare for their select Disney roles - would earn even more! Disney expects the actor to literally BECOME the character and morph into them. Plus they have to keep on a happy, eager face all day/night and show lots of affection towards the guests, even if they are completely burned out on the inside.
This, to me, is a truly honorable and commendable career for them to have. Yes, it’s a true career for the actors; not simply a job. The chances of an applicant being chosen as a Disney princess or other character is extremely rare. So considering all those tedious and exhaustive parts of their work, I believe the princesses/villains/characters deserve AT LEAST $50 an hour. I’d pay them even more if it was up to me, because they truly make a big impact on the lives of children and keep their imagination and dreams alive. *Disney has a net worth of 168 BILLION as of June, 2023. They’re more than capable of giving ALL their employees a generous, well-deserved salary!*

I applied for a position at Disneyland which required a specific college degree and very specific experience. Just prior to flying me to CA for my final interviews the man who would be my boss called me to explain that the position did not pay a livable wage. He said with my family of four we would be living below the poverty line. We’d have to live 2-3 hours from the park to afford rent. The person who’s position I was filling had graduated from my school 3 years prior and was unable to make it work financially. I’m sorry Disney, but magic fairy dust is not a tangible benefit of working there. Being such a “standout” company you’d think they’d pay well above the average and take care of the people who are the face of the company.

Good for you man that you were able to switch to a better job. But that's not the point. It's about taking care of your employees. They are not asking for massive raises here. They're simply asking for a minimum wage for their basic necessities. The same woman who has been working for 30yrs, was able to afford a single BHK back in the day is now living in a shared condo. That just shows you that you're wages are not being adjusted for inflation. Sadly that's the case everywhere. But what irks me is that attitude that "I was able to do better so they could too" and hinder meaningful change. Just because you were able to do it, doesn't mean anyone can. There are only so many jobs for so many ppl. And unfortunately most jobs are not even paying the minimum wage. But your CXOs make millions and write how they take care of their employees but they only care about revenues/profit and the wealth gap increases by the micro second.

We have a 'National minimum wage' and a 'London living wage'. The LLW is higher than the NMW because obviously, living in london is a lot more expensive than the average to live in other areas. The same goes for other major cities in the world. Yes, everything is more expensive, but you get paid more. Does your money go as far as someone who gets paid less in a cheaper area? No. But you can still afford to live in a HOUSE and not a car.

Really? Because big brands like Mc Donald’s, Starbucks and costa in the city of London pay around 7-9 pounds an hour and that’s depending on age. Personally having worked and lived in London my entire life, the minimum wage doesent meet up with the renting/living cost. I think what you said is obviously depending on the job and level but entry level the pay doesn't match.

Former Disneyland and Walt Disney World Cast Member here. I worked at Disneyland from 1999 to 2004 and at Magic Kingdom at WDW from 2004 to 2009. Back then my pay ranged from $9 to $11 an hour. I was able to keep a roof over my head. It wasn't great income, but I was able to make ends meet. Fast forward to 2018, was in between jobs and needed to get some money flowing. So went back to work at Disneyland for $13 an hour. Could barely make my car payment, not much money left for much after utilities. My income at Disney wasn't even paying the rent. Luckily I was offered a contract in my career field and left Disney after two months and was able to catch up on my living expenses. Another thing about Disneyland is that they don't start you Full Time. I barely got 25 hours a week at best. In Walt Disney World most hire in positions are Full Time, but even now, the pay isn't that great. How much the cost of living has gone up from 2009 to 2018, wages have not risen to compensate. It is ridiculous.

Only corporate greed allows this. Disney owns plenty of property. If you price the working class out of fantasy-like tourist destinations including New Orleans (which Disney has always wanted a piece of), there will be nobody that is or has become local to the area to serve that hospitality to the out-of-towners.
