Black Sabbath were true pioneers. The music press hated them with a passion. You gotta remember, this was the late 60s and early 70s. Flower power, folk, and psychedelic music were still mainstream. Black Sabbath created their own following. They were a success despite all the hate they received from the mainstream music press. No one was doing music like this. At the end of the day, the fans decide which bands make it. The fans spoke loud and clear with Sabbath. They laid the foundation for every metal band that came after them. Hey man, you found an earlier version from a 1970's Concert in a Paris nightclub...with the original lyrics...cool. Remember too, they weren't famous yet, this is how they became famous, and it shows. Bill Ward reminds me of 'animal' on the Muppets, he's a madman and he's holding his drumsticks backwards. During the intermission they had to nail Bills drums to the floor.
6:14 Ward's hitting those drums like they drank his last beer! Edit: Lex picked up on the natural chemistry and the musical connection that they each have with the others... That intangible thing that happens only when a band is just right.. A "collective" total that exceeds the sum of the individuals.
Love the Oz man! Can’t believe he’s still breathing after the copious amount of drugs he’s done in his life. Can’t understand him when he speaks but when he sings, amazing!
The originators of metal. Anyone who listens to a few sabbath songs understands how tight they were and left us with some of the greatest songs and riffs ever
God! You can tell it sounded phenomenal live. The tone coming out of those amps "KACHUNK!" and the natural acoustics of that hall on the drum kit are insane. 10/10.
Before Jim Marshall started making amps, he was a drum teacher, and a lot of the early rock drummers went to him at one time or another. Of course, Jim taught them jazz drumming, which they had to pare down to compete with increaingly powerful amps and p.a's. Bill Ward was a very under-rated lyricist.
Yes, to answer the question: best live performance I’ve ever seen, of any band. This was in recorded live in 1970. Mind-blowing. A musical revolution. I highly recommend watching the rest of the concert as well.
Amazing stuff, and believe me, it will be more amazing in the years to come. More than 50 years ago, go figure. You can not over-estimate the influence Black Sabbath has.
I'm not a Sabbath fan but I watch this every few months because its so heavy and raw, these kids were fresh and at the top of there game and killing it, and its a sight to behold.
Best anti-war anthem ever.🤘🏻🤘🏻imo, cause it's as dark and angry as the subject matter lol. I wrote this comment before realizing it was a live show where Ozzy flubbed up a bunch of lyrics. Please listen to the studio version y'all
This is the way to explore the music you like. You listen to the studio version once and then if you like the song you can go watch all the best live performances and music videos. If you do that backwards, you might not appreciate the music as much because you're distracted by the screen; therefore, leading you not wanting to explore a song or artist because you didn't enjoy it as much. And listening to it first lets you use your own imagination to visualize the story, but if your first impression is somebody else's imagination(like some lame music video director that isn't the artist), then that's all you'll see. It's great to see you guys do these revisiting reactions!
This is what metal is meant to be. Everything comes together to tell a story both lyrically and musically. Master of Puppets by Metallica is another song that does this in a stand out way.
I was a teenager when Sabbath hit it big and they blew my mind. This is one of their most powerful messages. There was nothing this hard before them, they basically invented heavy metal. Rock gods for sure.

There was a song recorded by Three Dog Night called "Mama Told Me Not To Come." I went to that party in 1971 or 72 when I was in the 7th grade. The reason I said I went to that party is because they were smoking cigarettes and playing the Paranoid album. Kind of a mind-blowing fearful feeling as my parents didn't have any idea about the world that dropped me off at... People call Ozzy crazy and maybe he is but it seems to me he confronts the horror of true reality and what can you expect after that very real dose of truth?
The top songs when this came out in 1970 Bridge over troubled waters, Close to you, American woman, Raindrops keep falling on my head, War, Ain't no mountain high enough, I'll be there, Get ready, Let it be, Band of gold That was the top 10 in 1970 Black Sabbath wasn't following a path, they were creating one
This is inarguably one of the greatest live recordings of music ever. If anyone asks about heavy metal/Sabbath this video should be shown. Powerful, original, skilled and important. Sabbath LIVE in Paris 1970 is godly
Amazing how some music can sound timeless. Not influenced by trends but pure passion and talent. I came to know sabbath through the Nativity in Black tribute album and then listened to the originals amazing band especially for their time, definitely pioneers that bands that came later should thank for their influence on metal music.
I don’t think anyone imagined Ozzy Osborne ending up essentially on the same level as the Kardashians as “reality celebrities.” I mean I doubt anyone could have imagined the concept of “reality celebrities” in the first place, but if you’d explained it and they finally got what you were talking about, there’d be a long pause and they’d go, “….and you’re saying Ozzy was the star of one of these, with a wife and kids? Uhhhh….” LOL

It's so great to see these guys young and hungry, just tearing it up as hard as they can. Sabbath basically wrote these early songs on the road - and they are so tight!! I love this band so much!! I also love how out Couch Gang have such a fine appreciation for the Sabbs.
They were so far ahead of their time; people still haven't caught up yet. Seen them live twice, nothing compares. Ok, maybe Tool compares, and Robert Plant and Page, but that's it 😁
I really love where you guys go with your rambling analysis. You hit on so many important things and it's just fascinating. As someone who has played in bands my whole life, there is nothing like playing in a band where everybody gets along and on the music level is super tight. Just can read each other's minds, just in so many ways, super type. You can even play loosen in the pocket but there's an overall control and tightness to it that only comes with really knowing each other and being at least somewhat relaxed. It's the greatest thing about playing music live I think.
The song that has said to be a direct influence to the creation of Heavy Metal came out in 1968 (and was written in 1967). It's a remake of the 1959 song Summertime blues and it's performed by the psychedelic/hard rock band Blue Cheer. In 1968 Blue Cheer were the heaviest thing around and you can see their interpretation of Summertime Blues on the Tops of the Pops tv show. Their drummer for their debut album Vincebus Eruptum (from where the song is taken), Paul Whaley, can be considered the creator of Heavy Metal. In 1967, nobody drummed like him, the influence on Heavy Metal is clear to see. You guys should really watch their performance, it is musical history, the moment metal drumming was born.
Very good most people don't even know about Blue Cheer. hey neve made it really big and only got even noticed because of a performance of Summer Time Blues on the Dick Clark show. Ya but Paul was an amazing drummer. It was rumored that he use to have to tape his drum sticks to his gloves he drummed with just hang onto them. Dick Clark on his show told him he was one of the hardest drums he has ever seen.
Wow, by far your most enjoyable reaction in a while :) Thank you! Please, please go back to giving Metal and heavy music in general a small corner of your channel, it's what brought me here and I really miss you guys reacting to that. Cheers!

Best Live Ever? I've always had it on the list for sure. I've always loved this video, it's just crushingly heavy and perfect. The only flaw is the lyrics being different, but that adds it's own character and value. The song was so fresh, they weren't done writing it yet. You can tell how excited Ozzy is by it, which I can only imagine. It's a great video.

@@betsyduane3461 love Zep but Sabbath had the Heavy Metal sound first. No one sounded like this then…
The thing is that this was made about vietnam and war in general and it still applies to this day. I didnt know about ozzy before the reality show lol i said to myself "wtf is he famous and have a show" then i started studying his lyric from black Sabbath and his solo. He always spoke truth
"Bill Ward reminds me of 'animal' on the Muppets" I wonder if he was the inspiration for Animal
Yeah that's really interesting. I don't remember ever seeing this version. Very cool.
Beating those Drums like they owed him Money!
It's so nice to have this song in some form other than that dammmed animated video that's going around everywhere. Like a breath of fresh metal air.
6:14 Ward's hitting those drums like they drank his last beer!
Edit: Lex picked up on the natural chemistry and the musical connection that they each have with the others... That intangible thing that happens only when a band is just right.. A "collective" total that exceeds the sum of the individuals.
This is probably the single most incredible rock clip on UA-cam. They were pushing the boundaries into unexplored territory. Still excites
Watching this one on constant repeat. Top shelf live footage for sure. So killer!
Watching Bill Ward rocking that basic 4-piece drum kit is absolutely magic.
Such passion involved. Fully committed band.
Love the Oz man! Can’t believe he’s still breathing after the copious amount of drugs he’s done in his life. Can’t understand him when he speaks but when he sings, amazing!
Facts! 😂
Ozzy and Keith richards. By the grace of god they never OD’ed. well not enough to die anyway!
This is such a great performance, Bill absolutely murdered those drums.
You two were afraid to do the live version. I’m glad you overcame your fear.
Really glad you two reacted to this live version, it really shows the talent of the band.
I just love that wall of sound that establishes what's about to happen with this song.
Iommis tone here is insane. Straight from the depths of hell. And this was 1970!
I git ti see Black Sabbath LIVE in 1971 while serving in the Us Army in West Germany at the first annual European Rock Concert
Brad smiling on this one. Some real big boy emotion! 💯
I love how Ward incorporates jazz into his style, really distinctive.
Such a powerful and true song always, it's 2022 now.
Amazing, Iconic! Bill Ward beat the drums like they owed him money.
If you look closely you see he holds the sticks upside down. Beats them with the fat end.
Hahaha Yes indeed
My favourite band. Been a huge fan since I first heard them in 1977
I'm not a Sabbath fan but I watch this every few months because its so heavy and raw, these kids were fresh and at the top of there game and killing it, and its a sight to behold.
Just F’ing awesome, they all killed it.
Best anti-war anthem ever.🤘🏻🤘🏻imo, cause it's as dark and angry as the subject matter lol. I wrote this comment before realizing it was a live show where Ozzy flubbed up a bunch of lyrics. Please listen to the studio version y'all
Some of the other comments are saying these are different lyrics and a different version. Either way, he's definitely not flubbing them.
Master of Puppets by Metallica is another song that does this in a stand out way.
...there would be no Metallica without Sabbath
I was a teenager when Sabbath hit it big and they blew my mind. This is one of their most powerful messages. There was nothing this hard before them, they basically invented heavy metal. Rock gods for sure.
The whole band was putting in work on this one
4:42 SO WAS LEX THE METAL HEAD IN THE BEGINNING AND BRAD STARTED LISTENING TO HER MUSIC TOO??? I get the sense that Brad is saying he's now starting to understand Lex's Metal side. Correct me if I'm wrong please. These two are the best reaction duo on the Tubes. The best I tells ya. The best!
Tony Iommi’s riffs are legendary. As is Bill Ward’s thunderous drumming. His drumming is totally insane!
Always thought this was the best rendition of this song ever. Great reaction.
Go on Bill. Smash those drums!!!!! Amazing performance!!!!
4 talented guys literally inventing a whole genre - Heavy Metal - right before your eyes. Amazing!
Keep in mind… Ozzy, Bill and Tony were 22 y/o in this performance and Geezer was just 21 🔥
The birth of metal. And fantastic musicians to boot. 😍
This is a fantastic live performance. Better than the video out there. Amazing concert! 🇨🇦🔥🔥🔥🥇💯🤗💖
This is a great response to all the lies and deceit that surrounded the Vietnam War.
I am just starting to get into Sabbath. I use to watch their reality show which I adored. This song is 🔥🔥
,,You are in for a treat Andrea
I don’t think anyone imagined Ozzy Osborne ending up essentially on the same level as the Kardashians as “reality celebrities.” I mean I doubt anyone could have imagined the concept of “reality celebrities” in the first place, but if you’d explained it and they finally got what you were talking about, there’d be a long pause and they’d go, “….and you’re saying Ozzy was the star of one of these, with a wife and kids? Uhhhh….” LOL
@@loadedorygun 🤣totally agree!
@@andreajackson5293 they’d be like, “are you sure you don’t mean Ozzie Nelson?” 😃
This alternative lyrics are f.... insane!!!!!!
The best, the heaviest ! And what drumming !!!! And what incredible stage presence Ozzie !!!!! I saw them live in maybe 77 Liverpool, but this was electric in Paris in what ? 71 ish ?
1970
Ozzy*
heard this song a bazillion times I swear I listen to this song --> just for Bill Ward and his rolls dafuq this guy was good. he had several rhythm sections in his head :P
LIVE!!! so much better than the fan made video everyone reacts to 😂🤙 even Brad was smiling 😀
That fan-made video is horrendous.
Plus it’s cool to listen to the pre-official lyrics that weren’t on the album. Ozzy makes these lyrics work as well as the “official” ones.
I agree, I tell all my friends to watch this version. The energy and the clarity of the recording is amazing.
The drum set should take out assault charges on Bill Ward, LOL 😆 What a great band. I saw them live twice.
Not sure what this drumkit did to deserve such monstrous beating🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥
This is a walpurgis/war pigs mix. Walpurgis was a more sinister version of war pigs that talked about churches being burned and had a more sinister tone
Black Sabbath, the godfathers of metal 🤘🏼
It's so great to see these guys young and hungry, just tearing it up as hard as they can. Sabbath basically wrote these early songs on the road - and they are so tight!! I love this band so much!! I also love how out Couch Gang have such a fine appreciation for the Sabbs.
They were so far ahead of their time; people still haven't caught up yet. Seen them live twice, nothing compares. Ok, maybe Tool compares, and Robert Plant and Page, but that's it 😁
No one really knows how smart John Michael Osbourne really is
I really love where you guys go with your rambling analysis.
Blue Cheer was great(especially Whaley!), but without Sabbath and Deep Purple I doubt metal would have sounded the same.
@@timmarshall2491
Obviously.
I'm not saying Sabbath and Purple didn't shape metal.
Just saying Blue Cheer was an important building block.
Black Sabbath was The first Heavy Metal band... They paved the way... And their music still Kicks Ass ..even after 50 years ...
Wow, by far your most enjoyable reaction in a while :) Thank you!
Please, please go back to giving Metal and heavy music in general a small corner of your channel, it's what brought me here and I really miss you guys reacting to that. Cheers!
I like Brad and Lex's REACTION! Lex said, "They have musical chemistry". Great live version of War Pigs!
Ozzy Osborne.
The Godfather of metal!
Black Sabbath - but I get what you mean. Ozzy might be The Godfather of head banging.
man the guitars and drums on this clip hit so much harder than the studio version. Hell yeah.
I enjoy your Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd reactions! 💗
FYI - still waiting for Chickenfoot Highway Star Live reaction .. features half of Van Halen (Hagar and Anthony), Joe Satriani, and Chad Smith (drummer for Red Hot Chili Peppers). But this was a great find (So was Freebird live)!
I'm pretty sure by the third verse he wasn't even singing real words, just nonsense.
Some of the different lyrics are from the original song Walpurgis, before it changed lyrics and name to War Pigs
Congratulations on the news guys. Love your channel. Blessings to y’all.
Great reaction, Ozzy created the head banging!
Man, that's good!! Saw them live in 1971 and 30 years later in 2001. Amazing!
Saw them in 99 with DEFTONES opening...Deftones killed it, Sabbath put me to sleep.
