- 'Guy Fawkes' Lamborghini Barn Find with incredible history - will its V12 run? When Jonny Smith was contacted by the owners of The Manor in Ashby St Ledgers (the location of the Guy Fawkes gunpowder plot) to say there was a classic Lamborghini needing to be rescued in a stable, he couldn't believe another Lambo barn find had come his way!
Thanks for stopping by The Late Brake Show.
In this episode, the story of a 1971 Espada series II bought new by speed record holder and racing driver Roy Jackson Moore is told. The previous owner, who restored the stately home, moved away and left it stored in the stable directly below the 'Plot Room', where Robert Catesby and Guy Fawkes planned the exploding of Parliament in 1605. The previous owner's fiancee was singer and modelling icon Grace Jones, who both travelled extensively in the classic Lambo, and lived in the house at one time.

Johnny!! Can we talk about that "blue steel" stare from the hood of your charger! Zoolander would be proud, that was pretty epic! Great video Mate, the quality of your show just keeps improving, but totally love the fact that you are able to showcase the every-man's barn find next to millionaire's collections. You transcend car culture, keep representing!
Thank you for the comment. Yeah, this channel is all about automotive diversity, and enjoying the stories and what machines mean to people. Barnfinds are Jonny's favourite episodes to film, because it is chance for him to go full 'Attenborough/Theroux spec' with detail and automotive emotional attachment. There's plenty more BFs to come, rest assured.
Ah, 12:44 - that explains an awful lot. That distinguished and rather successful hotelier, Ivor Guest. Clearly had the means to afford an Espada, and then, abandon it!
@@TheLateBrakeShow Amazing episode Johnny ! keep them coming to keep us interested in watching your channel !

I was viewing a property in northern Italy a few years ago, and the estate agent told us there was a Lamborghini in the barn that the owner was going to leave behind. He opened the barn door and - yes, you've guessed it - it was a tractor.
Absolutely the best Jonny, loved it and the stories, fantastic stuff 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
One of my mates grew up in Italy, and learnt to drive in his grandad's Lamborgini...tractor. Which is still pretty cool, I only got to go in Massy Fergusons.
@@phuzz00 I got to drive Allis Chalmers, John Deere & a Ford Model B tractor when I grew up on the farm.
and finally the house fits the "I forgot about an expensive car" thing.
I used to know of a large manor house that the owner, a very eccentric artist, had three Armstrong Siddlys in the garage and who gave up driving when he couldn't get some rare part for the last working one in the 80's. He was then driven about in a 60's air-cooled VW Pickup by his wife. The cars stayed in the garage until he died (about 6 years ago!) The family sold the house not long after. No idea what happened to the cars....
Ouch. But, so true.
I knew someone who had an abandoned Mk4 Supra TT on their land and refused to believe it would ever be worth any money 😮
I remember 35+ years ago going past a posh house down a private road in Sussex and in the garage was a dust covered AC Cobra....on the drive was the daily drive a Gauntlet era Aston V8. I wasn't the least bit envious....
Mwaha, exactly. "Oh yeah, there is also that old lambo in the barn behind the brooms and shovels"
I love how those who've previously owned the car beam whilst they recall stories of owning it and driving it. Thats what classic cars do, transport you in more ways than one. Awesome
Cars are more than metal boxes, that much we know. They are memory keepsakes.
What an amazing conversation with Julian on the phone, he needs that car back in his life 100%.
I thought the same, he still loves the car and I can't blame him, it's absolutely gorgeous.
Completely agree but he needs to give it to Iain Tyrrell restore back to original. This would look stunning back in its original colour😊
WOW - the best barn find yet!. Fascinating history and back story - and it drove! Bravo Jonny and team.
It did indeed, with a bit of 1970s health and safety.
@@TheLateBrakeShow Safety squints kept everyone in tact just fine.
I held my breath and crossed my fingers the brakes were going to work. But you checked first, didn't you! Didn't you?
Well that whole film passed all expectations. Brilliant job by all involved.
When he said the previous owner was Ivor Guest all that came to mind was.
"Me, the 4th Viscount Wimbourne in a Lamborghini with Grace Jones, with my reputation?"...
I worked for Roy Jackson Moore from 1980 to 1986 and he regularly used this Espada to travel from his home in Beaconsfield to Aylesbury. He had a business producing audio cassettes back then and it was a regular driver. He leased a warehouse next door to the business and a door was knocked through. Inside the empty warehouse a guy (Phil) worked on restoring his collection of Austin 10's (he loaned me and my wife two of his immaculately restored cars for our wedding). The Espada went away for a while getting overhauled and I remember starting and driving it while working the nightshift with nobody around, keys were left in it - I was too young to think about the consequences driving up and down the road at 3am ! Roy also owned a dark blue Lamborghini Jalpa but the keys were never left in that one! He also had a Fiat X19 and loved his little two seater Lancia Montecarlo
Last week it was Countryfile and History Walks with Tony Robinson. This week's opening Jonny proves he can do The Antiques Roadshow! Kudos Jonny! Legend! 😊
Thank you! Jonny dreams of appearing in Country File with some kind of car content. Unlikely.
Didn't expect my favourite bit of this video to be Jonny's slow head turn whilst posing on the Dodge.
Ha! You wrong 'un.
😂😂
Could this possibly be the best episode ever? A splendid car and a splendid venue create the most delightful - and to some extend romantic - images. Well done Johnny. And you are humble enough to realise you are a very lucky man indeed. I am very jealous.
It should go straight away to Iain Tyrrell's Classic Workshop, to get fully restored! - What a spectacular machine the Espada is - great video!
Tick, tick, effing tick. What a barn find. What this shows is Jonny is the dude to contact. From backyard home garage heros to super toffs. What's the common thread? Car guys. Also the amazing cinematography deserves a mention in dispatches. I'm speechless. Well Done!!
Scott, thank you so much!
Can you just imagine the excitement, in the future, of finding a 50 year old Tesla and getting it up and running?
Nope. Me neither.
The minute that V12 fired into life again... my heart skipped a few beats.
Yes and the Tesla will be found next to a golf cart or a milk float? How exciting😂
Imagine being to old to think that someone would not be excited by that.

I like the Lamborghini Espada. Amazing barn find. I have only ever seen one and that was in 1976. Speeding along the motorway here in New Zealand.
This was borderline perfection. I love the way true money has no airs or graces. When I was in the music biz in the back end of the '80's- early 90's there were some insane cars parked around my place in Beak Street Soho, our manager owned an F40, AN EFF FORTY!!!!!!. He regularly forgot where he'd parked it and would pay someone to walk around his usual haunts to find it, usually with an array of fines. Getting back to 'money' I met some wonderful people back then and I always found that the really properly beyond rich ones had nothing to prove, often drove an old mini or Land Rover but lived in a house just like this with a Camargue in the barn. They ALWAYS had a place in Scotland
“Forgot got where he parked it! “………….😂😂
Its a shame we cant find Guy Fawkes and revive him. 👍
What a great location and car, both are just beautiful.
Thank you for taking us a long with you. 2x👍
Thank you for the thumbs. Glad you enjoyed it.
The place, the history, the car, everything is of an incredible nostalgic quality. If I'm excited to hear that engine come alive, being there must have been quite an experience. Thank you for bringing us these gems of automotive history.
The Espada is one of my favorite cars. Outrageous and practical at the same time.
What a wonderful setting for a barn find episode. Actually, it's a pretty great setting for any event, truth be told. But yeah, nice to see the old girl running and 'driving'. Great episode, Jonny.
Wonderful stuff. Ivor Guest's anecdote about Grace Jones at Watford Gap Services made me chuckle :)
Jonny met Ivor later that day, as he decided to come and hear the Espada for himself. A really decent guy.
It's this sort of episode why I am in love with TLBS!
Beautifully done Jonny and team! ❤
Cheers v much Gary 👌🏽
A new level of cool has emerged; driving an Espada with Grace Jones!!!!!!!!! That's unbeatable, hands down, the coolest thing EVER.
Looks like Jonny has made it! The epitomy of "Barn Finds".

Wow! Stunning car. Amazing history, incredible location and i swear the production standards just get better and better.
One of the best barn finds I’ve seen especially with the famous ppl Chris Blackwell island records Bob Marley connection.
Lamborghini Espada!!
Probably your most special barn find yet Mr. Smith. Thoroughly enjoyable piece, nicely filmed and presented. Great job and thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it. This one was extra special.
Car UA-cam channels don't get better than this, this was outstanding and best episode yet. Thank you Jonny 🙏
That was AMAZEBALLS! The filming, the passion, the reverence for the machine, the location, the machine itself..! And she only bloody drove around! Genuinely, can't stop grinning. Loved it!
What a great video Jonny! And what a beautiful pair of Lamborghini’s. The story behind this barn find is amazing and she thoroughly deserves a rebuild and to see the open road again. I have an idea she will. Thank you Jonny. 😉👍
Well that was wholesome and delightful! Is it the first Barn Find Drive? What a wonderful story. I feel like the edit could've been twice as long and just as watchable!
Thank you. Not the first BFD, but there aren't many!
Should have taken the tractor. They are back en vogue
You're never gonna get it.
Johnny this video is flipping EPIC. You are doing amazing work.
Ah, perfect. Lashing down with rain outside, cup of tea... this is peak 5pm Saturday telly watching!

This episode Totally blew me away! Must be the best Series of episodes on youtube. Loving the content, the calmness and the joy. Absolutely made my day. ❤
Lovely seeing Someone work on a car wearing the no time to die seamaster. 👍🏻
Well done for bringing this one to light... You excelled yourself Jonny... This for me was the best Barn Find episode yet.
The back story of this car is quite frankly amazing... the history, the feedback from previous owners is astonishing, and the celebrity and stateliness it was preserved, all the years since being driven on the road . But more than anything, this barn find has brought to the masses, what a 70's Lamborghini is all about. The smiles, adulation and raw passion from all you guys that turned the key and started this classic, to running this classic around that courtyard should bring raw emotion to all petrol heads and kids alike.
Amazing!
What was the original color? I couldn’t understand.
@@djmech3871 The original colour was Azzuro Mexico (Mexico Blue).
@@georgebettiol8338 Thank you 👍🏻
Brilliant car, Just like watching a history programme tonight Jonny. Amazing how these barn finds just keep on coming.
I used to live next to the Watford Gap service station mentioned in the Grace Jones story, so it brought a smile to me. Lovely Espada deserves a resto.
What a car! What a location, what a great story and a great cast of characters too. 35 mins flies by when you are watching barnfind videos!
what an eye-catching car the Espada is. And with a back story to boot. You keep on outdoing your vids Jonny, what next? keep em coming, we're hooked...
Whilst traveling in Umbria Italy, I came across the Lamborgini Vineyard, on entering we were met by an old man in dungarees. He was very chatty and in Italian enquired about us and what we were doing and other things. He then called someone on his mobile phone to meet us at the end of the drive. We proceeded and was met by a very smartly dress man, who told us in English that the motor museum was closed, but Mr Lamborgini had told him to open up and show us around. As per your video, Federico was an person of kindness and gentleness to us. Thank you. Graham
Wow! This is a real special episode. I love how we all got to hear the history of this Lamborghini with you in real time Jonny( or if not it sure sounds & feels like it).
When Jonny rounded up the Video about the History of the Lamborghini, Healey, Grace Jones and Guy Fawkes, it just put a huge smile on my face.I love History and especially Guy Fawkes and Classic cars and the Land Speed Record.
Who else didn't go YES! YES! YES! when the Lamborghini fired up, and they took it for a Drive, just absolutely Wonderful. Thank you Jonny and all the team involved in this Video, its so good for the soul, that enthusiasts care about Classic Cars. Just one of the Best videos Jonny has done, but its very hard to rate them all now, I can't wait for Jonny's Sunday Videos to drop, thank you Jonny. 👍😁👍
You have done so many good barn find shows, this is one of the best. It would be cool for you to do some follow-up videos on some of the barn finds to discover what happened to the cars after they were found. Have they been sold, restored, what happened next?
This car deserves a biopic movie!
I've only ever seen one Espada on the road - it was lime green and someone at the hotel (can't remember the name - it's a Raddision Blu now) at Golden Bay in Malta some time in the early 1970's. Utterly lovely - and it made a noise that really impressed me as a 12 year old!
Hi Jonny, thanks you so much for the piece on the Espada (number 1 & 2). I owned a dark blue series 1 from 1982 to 1988 (best dashboard of them all). Sold it to a friend and bought a 3 liter Urraco that I still have. The Espada was stored in a barn due to not having a proper garage to store it in for a few years. The sound of the Espada was incredible, but the Urraco is 1000 pounds lighter and handles so well.
Keep up the great work, your videos are priceless.
Amazing episode Johnny! ❤ "....yeah, they're pis.... yes they're leaking everywhere....." 😅 imagine the irony of burning Guy Fawkes office to the ground with a dodgy old Italian classic car inferno underneath it 🔥 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
This place is literally 2 miles away from where I live, been past it loads of times and who would have known !
What a gorgeous episode! The Espada is really one of the most beautiful cars ever designed. My memory immediately jumps back to my childhood favorites, this being one of them, together with DeTomaso Pantera and closer to home, from affordsbility point of view, the Matra Bagheera... But this one, and especially the group of nutters who play around with this thing as if it were Playmobil, made my day!
It's the ultimate barn to find a car in!
What a place.
Wow, not sure what's better here, the car or the location!! Top episode as always
It's remarkable how inanimate chunks of metal can hold such history and memories for those who own them
I keep saying this, Jonny but each barn find you do is better than the last one. Some name dropping on this one but it drove as well🙂. Brilliant
I just love the ESPADA! You get the most interesting cars and settings to bring them back to life, another fascinating episode! Thanks again!
Great episode Jonny, that’s such a cool car with an amazing back story
What a car , however the back story on this one is miles better !!
Unbelievable 👍🏻
Best Barn Find Episode yet Johnny! Whst a backstory behind this Lambo and to hear former owners speak about their memories, i do hope Julian buys this car back.
I love these barn finds... Such relaxing videos to watch.. especially when the location is a remote barn like that Renault 5 GT Turbo and this find here.. what an amazing setting and an amazing car. Keep up the great work Johnny
Thought you were going to open the door and Iain Tyrrell & Harry Metcalf were going to be driver and passenger.
Not forgetting Craig and his sewing machine sorting out the stitching in the carpets!
I was thinking the same way, Iain is thinking here comes a new customer.
Brilliant episode (again) Jonny, featuring possibly my favourite Lambo, the Espada (and one with a very colourful past). I haven't got crystal balls, but if you keep turning up Espadas I can see a 3-way crossover between you, Harry M and Iain Tyrrell (hint, hint ;))
Defo the best Barn find episode yet, Keep up the good work Jonny.
Absolute joy! Love your barn find videos Jonny.
Ditched social media a little while ago so I don't get the Twitter updates anymore but it's so good to check UA-cam every couple of weeks and find new content of yours 👍
Keep up the good work.
What a fantastic episode, goes to show how important cars really are to people.
Nothing quite like getting it out and playing with it in such historical surroundings.
An Espada always makes me smile. One of the first exotics I ever drooled over in person, so glamorous.
Growing up, my neighbor had several Lamborghinis'. I rode in the Espada often as a 9 year old and the interior has always stuck in my mind! Super great memories those were!
If I had UK citizenship, that's the kind of estate I'd want. It doesn't get more quintessentially British than that.
You know this show is going big time getting invited to such an amazing location!
Hoping so. Life's too short to leave the cars in all the sheds...

Muffhelm, thank you
Refreshing to see a car thats been stored well and doesnt have toon of junk all over it. Amazing motor and great history !
Wow, what a fantastic car! I think I have only ever seen one once. In 1971, when I was 12, my Dad took me to the International Trophy F1 race at Silverstone, in the days when there were non-championship races in the UK before the main European season started. Things were much more relaxed then, and anyone could wander round the paddock on the practice days, as cars were being prepared etc. I have a clear memory of standing watching the Lotus area, and seeing Emerson Fittipaldi (a Lotus driver that year) arrive in this wonderful outlandish Lamborghini, which I am fairly sure was an Espada. It seemed impossibly glamorous to a car mad younger me.
What a great episode ..... all that it needed was Grace to pop her head round the corner and ask if her car is ready yet😅😅😅
Amazing that it sprang into life and was able to do a couple of circuits. Very well produced, well done and good luck from Spain!!
I would like to see a professional full detailing of this car😊
This is a good one. You came prepared with all the reinforcements. The Espada is a beauty and sounds glorious
Quite the most ‘hatstand’ episode so far. From the car’s epic back story and the then owner’s clear wish to buy it back, to the wonder of it starting, sounding surrweet and driving, not just in a car park, but there, at that house. Swoon! Go Jonny go
Get that car to Ian Tyrell's workshop!
Lol if you've got £100k budget spare for a freshen up 😂😂
